Have lived around the Media area my whole life. Family has been going to Apollo Pizza since the early '70s and it was my #1 go-to pizza shop. They made excellent pizzas & cheesesteaks ,and their Cheesesteak Strombolis were to die for! I even used to buy strombolis to take with me when I visited old friends out of state, just so they could have a 'taste of home' again.They were always a welcome treat. Once ownership changed hands in the early 2000's it just really went downhill fast. My last time there, Fall 2021 iirc, I had ordered 2 Lg 16" pizzas--one with extra cheese and one with extra cheese,pepperoni, and green peppers. So,four toppings total ($$$) The shop had really started to skimp on cheese around that time ,so you had to order extra just to get the proper amount on the pizzas. When I got there and paid the counter guy charged me the correct amount (*see last paragraph for more on that) ,but gave me somebody else's order (with a similar name) of 2 Lg 16" pizzas that only had 2 half-toppings on one pizza; so I got ripped-off 3 full toppings! The other customer that got my order made out like a bandit! In my opinion,the quality of the pizza mainly started going downhill as soon as the shop installed one of those godawful conveyor ovens. The old school Bakers Pride (or were they Blodgett brand?) ovens that they used to use at the shop made a perfect pizza every time. The ingredients might still be there,but they're never going to get the old Apollo's flavor with that cheap new oven; sadly, a lot of local pizza shops are adopting those things. Another issue with this place; Between prices in the take out menu,the prices posted in the shop itself and what they ring up on the register--it's anyone's guess how they arrive at the total that they charge you. During the Pandemic,I vividly recall they would sneak in a extra service charge of $5 on top of their prices.I think it was such a profitable thing for them,they never dropped it. Could be wrong...but just running rough numbers in my head when I would place an order, it always ran about $5 or $10 more than I had guesstimated. read more

I was very pleased with my Cheesesteak Royal. I wish they would have told me my cheesesteak was done especially since I was the only one waiting for my order. It came with fried onions, mushrooms, peppers, sauce and pizza cheese melted on top. The roll was toasted. It had a very good amount of me. I don't think I loved the meat but it was good. The extras added a lot of very good flavor. The sauce added flavor and juiciness. There was a lot of cheese melted on top. It was good, only complaint is that we wanted hot buffalo wings and they weren't hot in flavor. The wings were hot in temperature, well cooked and the sweet and spicy sauce was spicier than the buffalo sauce. The pizza had a good amount of toppings and the crust was good too. read more

Apollo was by far my favorite pizza ever since I moved to Media in 2003. The pizzas were always incredible, the crust amazing. Saturday night changed that. We ordered 2 medium pizzas, one with 2 toppings, the other with 4 toppings. We also ordered 15 wings. The total came to $63! I did not mind thinking at first, everyone is rasing rates, so long as the quality was the same. It was not. The crust could have been used to hammer a nail in, the sauce was tasteless and the cheese fell off the dough. We ended up throwing out the vast majority of the pizza, it was THAT bad! The workers are very rude when I explained to them that the pizza was cold. The delivery guy was rude and took the money from my hand and lied when asked if the pizza was hot. He didn't even ask if we wanted any change back. We called the office and told them what happened and they said it's cold outside we can't expect the pizza to be hot. I love Greek style pizza. That is, if it is made just right. This place has been around since 1969. You have to think that they must know what they are doing. Maybe they do most nights. I may have picked the time to go yesterday when they were a bit off. Don't get me wrong. The pizza I got was OK. But for Greek style pizza to me, it lacked a few things. Thickness was one thing it lacked. You see, if there's one thing I know about Greek style pizza is that if something isn't quite right about the dough in the pan, it doesn't rise properly. I happened to get one of those non-rising pizzas on this trip. It affects the experience if it is not risen properly. Also, not enough taste of the sauce to complement the cheese and toppings. I like a decent amount of sauce, but not too much. I got something less than a decent amount. I mean, it was fine. I polished off a small pizza. I moved out of the area a while back but still always stopped by to pick up a pie anytime I was in the area. The shop changed hands and is now under new ownership. What happened to Apollo? Used to be our go to for Greek style pizza, the crust was amazing. Now it seems as though they used pre-cooked dough discs. The crust is dry and flavorless. Kept trying, hoping it was a fluke, but nope. Just not good. Also more instances of picking up an incorrect order. When we call, they have not interest in making it right. Here's the deal: you don't go to Apollo Pizza for the pizza -- you go for the cheesesteaks. I moved away from Media after high school, but whenever I return home an Apollo cheesesteak (with fried onions) is the first thing that goes into my mouth. We tried it for the first time because my husband had a major craving for wings and several friends recommended Apollo. He devoured them and raved. So definitely a great spot for wings in Media. I got the grilled chicken salad and cheese fries. There was a ton of chicken on the salad, and it was a very generous portion. Came with carrots, onions, tomatoes, peppers, olives, provolone, and a 6inch hoagie roll on the side. You get a lot for the price. The fries had an awesome crispy crust, we did takeout so that meant they never got soggy at all. I loved the fries. This review is based solely on their cheesteaks - I've been here twice, and its the only thing I've ever ordered. I just got back from a two week trip to the Philly area, and ate cheesteaks at a lot of joints, both the "touristy" and "local" places, and this is one of the best. My business partner grew up in Media during the 70s and told me that I had to stop here and try the cheesesteak. So here's the thing. I grew up in Media, thus I grew up with Apollo. I so fondly remember their mushroom cheesesteaks, oozing with cheese and heavy on the 'shrooms, and the pepperoni strombolis which my dad would pile high with whatever other deli meat and cheese we had in the fridge. They get stars for the wonderful memories alone. Sure, the service *can* be gruff at times, but I honestly expect it when I come back into town. It seems to depend completely on who's working; the younger guys seem to have more patience, and they remember repeat customers. Now, I've lived in Chicago for eight years. This city knows pizza the way Philly knows cheesesteaks. Apollo's pizza is nothing compared to Chicago's offerings...I'm so sorry to say it, but it's true. So I'm a bit more picky about my pies now, but it would be unfair to knock off points for such comparisons. I think Apollo's pizza is superior to other neighborhood joints, and that's the important part. And whenever I'm back home, an Apollo cheesesteak is one of the first foods to hit my lips. I ordered from Apollo pizza last night through door dash after seeing some good reviews. The pizza looked good so I figured I should try it. I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza, side of fries and an antipasto salad which I asked for them to chop. The door dash worker texted me while he was waiting for the order and said that they were taking longer than usual to prepare to food. That's fine since it was a Friday night and they were probably busy. Once my food arrived I saw that they gave me a normal chef salad instead of what I ordered... to me that is not okay. It's not what I wanted so it's not what I ordered and therefore I haven't even touched it yet and probably won't. Thanks Apollo!! The pizza was SO salty and greasy I couldn't believe it. I have never had this type of experience at a pizza place and really wasn't expecting this. The side of fries was pretty normal, nothing special about them. So basically I spent $40 to learn to never order from there again. While I prefer the Pinnochio pizza in Media, Apollo Pizza has been a long staple of mine when I require something different. They have Sicilian style pizza which I think is just phenomenal. Perfect crust, dough, and the gravy is just gooooooood. However, I feel their most under appreciated item is their wings. My mom and I went to Apollo for a quick bite last Saturday. We wanted to split a tomato pie. We asked to split a small (10 inches) and the girl behind the counter asked "what's that?" I spoke louder since I assumed she simply didn't hear me. She asked again what it was. I told her it was a pizza without the cheese. She was dumbfounded and says "oh, how do we make that?"...She WORKS at a pizza place....really!? Being vegan, (and now afraid to challenge her mentally) I first told her what the term vegan means and said that "I am vegan." I then asked if the sauce was vegan. I said I assumed the bread was. She said "well, we put butter in the bread." I asked her to make sure because most pizza crust is a simple mix of flour and water. She says "well, it's baked, not fried so they have to put butter in." WHAT. If you need heart clogging this is a good place to start. Love their chicken cheese steak, very meaty. Onion rings are delicious. Pizza is greasy greek style and it is good. If you order their pizza I would order a medium or personal. The pizza seems to come out better tasting when it is cooked more due to its smaller size. Additionally, I love getting fresh onions and green peppers on their pie. Service levels vary depending who assists you. read more
