No, if you're expecting perfect execution of the classics. Half of what you'd eat here, is more along the lines of "Pinoy-inspired". If you go here, be aware: - There is no fish sauce on the table - There is no vinegar chili sauce on the table - There is no salt on the table - A lot of the dishes here are missing many, many traditional ingredients. Many of which can be pre-stocked ahead of time or grown locally, so there shouldn't be a good reason why these dishes shouldn't have at least 50% of the base requirements. Adobo Chicken Seasoned and fairly traditional tasing with a good bit of seasoning and flavor. IMO lacking some tanginess, but that's a family style preference and can change from place to place. Green Mango Salad Has all the ingredients of a green mango salad but lacks the most important ingredient; shrimp paste and a pinch of salt. Kare-Kare Avoid this dish. I ordered this because one of the first photos showed shank bones (shank or flank is used as an acceptable replacement for what is traditionally Ox tail), so I was fully expecting something of that nature, especially considering shank is plentiful in this area. The meat added was very dry slices. The base lacked salt and fat during the cooking process, so it came out very bland. The string beans were boiled (again without any salt). String beans in this dish are traditionally served fresh, or if you cook them, you cook them in the broth, and/or pre cook them with some type of sodium on a pan and thrown into the pot. And because the base lacked fat that would have come from shank or ox tails, the base really suffered. Another missing ingredient was shrimp paste, and braised eggplant. Very disappointing. Sinigang Don't order this. This dish tased like water with a little bit of tamarind powder. This dish is missing so many ingredients: Taro root, okra, chili, fish sauce, fresh tamarind, water spinach. Powder is fine but it's missing so much that makes this dish unique and flavorful. Also note that this place is on the pricier side, so not getting the basics right hurt a little more than just the wallet.

The owner (I can't recall his name) immediately greeted us as we approached, sat us down and asked what types of wines we typically enjoyed. There was no looking and deciding about what tasting to do. There is a description of all their wines at the table. He then brought out the wines, explained them and why he selected them for us. We enjoyed a lovely charcuterie board, some deviled eggs, spending a couple of hours there. We purchased 4 bottles of wine as well. It was a really lovely experience and I highly recommend. We selected Valley View because it was the first official winery in the applegate AVA.

Hence the face I'll review a few stores on this street. Being half Asian (Balinese to be precise) I was delighted to see 'Old World Artifacts, a name fitting to this store. It's like stepping into a different world, different south East Asian cultures combined with local art. Should you be in the area, I can highly recommend you to pay this store a visit. The owner, Franklin, is friendly and welcoming. No snobbish attitude I have often found in similar stores. Instead a man who loves to talk about his favorite places to visit and makes you feel at ease. My photographs will -hopefully- give an impression of the inventory of "Old World Artifacts." There's a plethora of artifacts from different Asian cultures. It feels like so much has been hand selected by Franklin on his travels. I heard him about Cambodia where he rode the bicycle; drop by to chat with this well-traveled man if you're interested in traveling to that part of the world and see what the culture has to offer. Not only Asian artifacts are for sale. When I walked in my eye instantly caught incredible art on the wall. It turns out thus is from local artist, Kat McIver. There's something deeply touching about her sculptures, they're all very different and I have added some pictures. I was told this artist works one day a week in this store. I saw big Buddha statues with a hefty price tag, which is totally justifiable and understandable knowing where it comes from. Having said that, I also saw rugs from turkey at a really great price for a good quality Turkish rug ($195 for a real Turkish rug is a steal). Being half Asian, half Dutch I'm aware of the prices of these rugs and I paid a lot more when living back home in Amsterdam. A set of locally made cards of $4. In other words: there's something for every budget. That's something I think is -especially in these times- a good thing. This store has only been open since October last year, so not too long. I will definitely be back on a regular base.
