​I've stayed here a few times during road trips between the Bay Area and Portland. Breaking up the trip into 2 days, Ashland is a good stopping point for me. Pros: * plenty of free parking in the hotel lot * in walking distance to many nice restaurants and a Safeway grocery store across the street * complimentary continental breakfast with stay * comfortable and quiet rooms * eco-friendly shampoo and body wash dispensers in the shower * very pet-friendly (many dogs on site) Cons: * not the most up-to-date room (has an actual metal key for the door) * TVs can be hit or miss Despite the shortcomings, there is good value in the Stratford Inn, and I plan on staying here on future road trips. read more

I absolutely LOVED this hotel until tonight. I called at 6pm asking if I needed to make a reservation because I would be arriving in the wee hours of the morning, just long enough to sleep a few hours before the 11am checkout time. I spoke to a polite woman, Annabelle, she said the have more than 20 rooms available and I would be fine. That was at 6pm. I was at work over 200 miles away! So, I leave about 45 minutes late from home arriving here just before 4am. Now the reason I was checking on a room was to get one close to the door or elevator. I am disabled and didnt want to bring my scooter and I can barely walk. After the call I decided to not bring it. Remember I was assured there was plenty of rooms left! So, now it is 5am and I just spent an hour with the lovely yet naive recently hired desk gal. They cannot rent a room between 3am and the afternoon!!! What in the ENTIRE F@#% DO YOU MEAN I CANNOT GET A ROOM! They have plenty. They just cannot rent them out! Are you kidding me?!?!? I've been up for 21 hours. I am picking my daughter up from SOU for spring break and we have to return TODAY! This has been more than an inconvenience! I am so frustrated and down right angry! This situation should never have happened! This is a pretty nice place too. It bums me out badly! I can only hope this is a fluke situation. I sure hate leaving a bad review on a place I like, but tonight was complete and total bullshit! read more

There's something about a clean spacious room with a kitchenet that helps bring calm and relaxation after hours and hours of driving. We really enjoyed the Stratford Inn. It's location puts you within easy walking distance of downtown Ashland, they're directly across the street from Safeway if you run-out of bottled water, the staff are very friendly and the hotel is puppy friendly. For breakfast try Zi Spice just a few blocks up the street. read more

We stayed here over two nights in October as part of my birthday weekend. The price during the summer was a bit steep for me, but the October rates were reasonable enough that I could justify it. It's also only about a 15 minute walk to the plaza area and OSF grounds, so it's probably the best deal within proximity to those things. We got a "King Executive" room on the third floor with a view to the east (parking lot side). The room was spacious and clean. We both liked the inclusion of the comfy lounge chair near the window. The bed and linens were clean and comfortable. The heating/cooling unit is newer and was easy to adjust. I didn't take a shower, but the bathtub was good for hot soak. The continental breakfast room was comfortable and had a decent selection of items. Nothing fancy, but plentiful. The hotel is somewhat dated, but had been kept up well. If you're there for the Shakespeare Festival, the theme is perfect. They've amassed a really fun collection of OSF production photos, posters, and programs that are displayed everywhere inside. Their decor for Halloween was AMAZING. It's my favorite holiday and it made my birthday stay feel even more special. The staff were all friendly and helpful, too. This seems like a place that really takes pride in making people feel welcome, and has a bit of fun along the way. When doing my Oregon road trip, I made a stop in Ashland, as my friends recommended the Stratford Inn. This is located not too far from I-5, and just a few miles from the Tesla Superchargers. It's also right across the street from a Safeway. This hotel is pet-friendly, but requires a $35 pet fee/day. They have complimentary breakfast from 7am-10am, but their selections are limited. They have an indoor pool, with the hours from 6am-1am. This does feel like an older hotel, but it has been remodeled & they've maintained this place very well. I do like the actual physical key, which is a very nice touch. Overall, the room was very nice, with all the necessities that you'll need, which included a microwave & a mini fridge. I do recommend staying here, as all of their staff members were very helpful & friendly too. The next time I'm in Ashland with my dog, I would like to stay here again. read more

We had a really nice stay here in November 2024. We usually just stay in a standard room, but we needed to change our dates and they were pretty full. We upgraded to the king suite on the second floor near the breakfast area. We really enjoyed our upgrade. It was a very comfortable room and it was nice to have the extra space. We really enjoyed the complimentary breakfast both mornings. They have a big pot of steel cut oatmeal with lots of toppings and you can also make a yogurt parfait. They also have hard boiled eggs, cereal, and different breads for toast with jam or honey. A microwave is available if you need to heat anything up. The only thing we didn't care for was the coffee, but they do have a nice selection of teas. The gal working, the breakfast bar was very friendly and helpful. Be sure to leave her a tip. read more

Pros: -Decent location, right across the street from a grocery store and a 15 minute walk from the Shakespeare Festival. -Rooms are very very spacious and furnished with practical (if a bit dated) furniture. -Half the employees were nice and polite. -Water pressure and temperature were perfect. Cons: -The use of real keys is pretty annoying, and every morning they oil the locks, so your keys get coated in black grease that you need to wipe off (or risk permanently staining your clothes). Not to mention the security risks, any guest could easily copy it and then later break into the room. -The sheets were starched stiff and scratchy, and instead of a duvet cover there was a loose sheet under and over a comforter, which didn't stay in place at all. -The employees had some sort of a miscommunication and changed my room from a double queen to a single king ADA room the day I checked in without asking me first. While I use a wheelchair, I had previously called to confirm my room choice because I require a bathtub and the ADA rooms only have a shower. Not having access to a bath was very miserable and painful given my disability. Because they were sold out, they couldn't do anything to fix the issue. -Accessibility could be better, the door that leads out to the main street only has stairs, so you have to take an elevator to exit to the parking lot and then wheel up a steep hill. -Half of the staff were rude to me, with one insisting the hotel's error was partially my fault (it wasn't, I was extremely clear about my needs), and another one who out of nowhere started criticizing my hometown and saying how awful it must be to live there (despite me repeatedly insisting that I enjoy where I live). It was bizarre. -Breakfast is extremely minimal, with just fruit, coffee, 2 types of bland cereal, stale muffins, hard boiled eggs, and toast and oatmeal that always seemed to be over or under cooked. read more

No hot water this morning from 7:30-10 am. We were unable to take showers before we checked out . The girls at the front desk said they were unable to reach a supervisor as there was no one on site. Usually this is my hotel I stay at for layovers because it's cheaper than most others, however after today's complete lack of customer satisfaction and rude behavior by both Alyssa and Mariso (apparently supervisors) I will never stay there again. By far the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. I asked for and was given a late checkout of 1pm on the day of my departure (had a 5 day stay). I came down 3 floors to get a luggage carrier at 12.55 and told Alyssa that I was checking out and just going upstairs to load my luggage. I left my room at 12:57. The phone in the room was broken or I would have updated her on the 2 minutes (ridiculous). By the time I got to the front desk and handed my key in my Invoice showed a 1/2 day charge of $50 for 1 minute. Seriously?? Alyssa then threatened to call the police because I was trespassing! Seriously?? I've traveled the entire world and have never seen such blatant and outright abuse of customers. No hospitality, no human kindness, just anger and resentment. I talked to her, her boss and the CEO who is insight. They wouldn't budge because of a complete lack of customer service. Alyssa should not be in a position of a supervisor because she does not have the skills. The hotel is barely an upgrade to a Motel 6 and the service is worse. I'm really disappointed that the Stratford Inn will no longer be my hotel of choice. People stay at hotels for rest and courtesy. 1 minute late to drop your key off .. you make your own decision, but after living in Ashland over 4 years there are hotels there that will welcome you with open arms. Stay away from the Stratford. But I will say 5stars to Cindy who works the breakfast service. read more

We really like the Stratford Inn. Good location and friendly staff. We had a double queen with kitchenette. Plenty of room. Comfortable bed and clean linens. I did notice the bathtub had a crack/hole, that had been caulked, but needed it repeated. Also the handle on the shower wall was loose on one side. Easy fixes. Breakfast was very good. A nice hearty oatmeal, yogurts (plain & vanilla), blueberries, strawberries and lots of toppings for them. Hard boiled eggs, variety of breads, cereal, juice and coffee. MJ was the good desk clerk, and any staff we ran in to, equally so. We will definitely be returning. read more

This is a quirky, funky( in a good way), bohemian type hotel in a great location. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. Super- friendly staff, exceptionally clean room, and a beautiful view of the mountains have caused my spouse and I to fall in love with this place. It has such a great vibe. Soulful and artsy. From the front desk to the cleaning staff we were treated in a friendly and welcoming way. The complimentary breakfast is very simple but adequate if you're looking for a quick morning bite. Cereal, toast, yogurt, hard boiled eggs etc. Nothing fancy. The place was fully decorated for Halloween which to us showed that the owners go out of their way to give this place a non-chain feel, and they succeed. If you're looking for a unique and welcoming stay this is the place. If you're looking for a cookie cutter, corporate chain type experience then this is not the place. read more

Great communication from the inn in advance. I decided to bring both my kids with me last minute (instead of just 1). I emailed to let them know and without asking they added a roll-away bed to the room. There were fresh flowers in the kitchenette. And there was a nice handwritten note welcoming us from the manager. This isn't a 5-star hotel, but it is clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. They allow dogs under 50 lbs, which was wonderful, and they had a free breakfast that included oatmeal with tons of toppings. No shrink-wrapped Danish Horns here! Disgustingly dirty. Feces on the toilet. Towels smelled gross. did not get the style of room we paid for. All dishes and silverware had food debris on them. Window looked out to a wall basically a basement room on ground level rooms. I am a world traveler and I can safely say that the individual at the front desk of the Stratford Inn when I tried to check in was the WORST. She said she had just recently started at the hotel and unless she gets a huge attitude adjustment, she won't last long in customer service. I spent $118 and reserved a room by calling what I thought was the hotel's reservation line. Instead, I was apparently talking to a third party company. Nonetheless, I arrived at the Stratford Inn and was told that the pet fee was not $35/night but rather $35 per pet. The reason I called to book my hotel room was because I was traveling with 2 dogs and 2 cats. I call to book all my rooms because I need to make sure my pets can stay and that the pet fee is not unreasonable. I explained all of this on the phone when I booked my room. I was told it was $35 extra for pets and they told me the total with the pet fee was $117 and change. I agreed to the price, paid over the phone to reserve my room. When I arrived, I was told that I had not paid for any pet fee and that it would be $35 PER PET ($140 more!!). So not only did I pay more than the $87 room but now they wanted me to pay more than double what I had already paid to stay in a 2 star hotel. This was my very first time trying to stay in downtown Ashland. I have lived in the PNW for over 30 years but always drove through Ashland on my travels. I decided to change things up this trip and searched for a local hotel in the downtown area so that I could spend money and time in downtown Ashland during my trip. Instead, this extremely rude front desk person made me leave Ashland and drive to Medford where an extremely professional front desk person was so helpful in finding me a room at the very last minute that would accommodate my animals, all under $120. And I spent my time and money in Medford instead of Ashland. All of this is to say that the front desk person was completely unprofessional with her tone and completely unhelpful when I found myself in an unfortunate situation. Instead of trying to keep my business and keep my money in downtown Ashland spending money locally, she was more than happy to send me on my way saying repeatedly that there was nothing she could do. She said that the company knew about this problem and that this had happened before. Any hotel that knows a third party company is scamming people and sharing false information with potential guests and yet does NOTHING to remedy the problem, is a SHADY business. Please do not give this hotel your money. Please know that they are aware of third party shadiness and have the power to fix it. And yet they CHOOSE to not fix the problem (ex.stop partnering with these companies)and this front desk person refused to offer any flexibility to make my stay possible. She used extremely rude language and tone when I was trying to remain professional (ex. "c'mon, you want me to give you something for free?" when I asked if there was a way to cut the extortive pet fee rates in half so I could justify staying there still). She said it was my fault that I got scammed ("The internet is wild place, you have to be careful out there") instead of realizing that the Stratford Inn is responsible for partnering with these companies and can cancel permissions at any time. Instead of calling someone to see what they could do, she gave me nothing but attitude and made me feel like it was my fault that I had been scammed. Don't give this hotel your business!! read more

Checking in to AirBnb in Ashland is a comparable price and generally quieter. It's okay to stay here if you are okay with noise, frequent wifi interruptions. and mold and rust in the bathroom. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT! It started with a friendly quick check in. We did not have reservations but took our chances - so glad we did. They had just the room we wanted and at a very attractive price - and they even offered a Discount for Veterans. EXCELLENT VALUE! VERY COMFORTABLE ROOM. The beds were super comfy. Bathroom had all the right stuff. Heating system was very effective. Very quiet - never heard anyone above or below. BREAKFAST WAS ONE OF THE BEST. Nice big breakfast room with a great array of buffet-style selections. We were surprised to see this nice a spread and a budget-priced hotel. COVERED PARKING was a nice wintery surprise. About half their spaces are covered. Good reason to get there early. LOCATION was fantastic. Historic Downtown Ashland is just two blocks away. We walked there late afternoon and enjoyed it a lot. Loads of restaurants and unique stores. And right across the street the other way is a Safeway store too. We have a niece that will be attending Southern Oregon Univ in Ashland next year and sent our strong recommendation to her folks. We will be back - thanks Stratford!! Best value of any hotel I've ever stayed at ever. I come through Ashland a few times a year and now that I found this place I will never stay anywhere else. Yes, it's a bit dated and there's a rust stain here or there, but it's otherwise very clean and comfortable and the employees are remarkably friendly and accommodating and the place never seems to raise prices during high season. And it's walking distance to the festival/downtown. Oh, and the best breakfast setup I've seen at this price. Well done Stratford Inn! read more

The staff was nice, the room was what I expected. My kids had a blast in the pool. My only issue was , We stayed 2 nights and the maid slammed on my door the next morning of the first day. I was in the bathroom so I couldn't answer it. I heard her literally open the door to the room. Which seemed invasive. And then she yelled and asked if we needed anything. My son was still asleep. Poor customer service and possible ADA violation. Below is a message I submitted on the Inn's website two weeks ago, no one reached out to me. I am paralyzed and use a wheelchair, related to this I suffer from chronic pain. I called the morning of Nov 15th to book a room before beginning my 6 hour drive. I spoke to Alyssa (front desk manager), she told me there were no ADA rooms available but there was a suite that was wheelchair accessible. She did not ask what my needs were or offer any other rooms. She also did not tell me the price difference between an ADA room and the suite. Although she did take my email I didn't receive a confirmation email as she wrote it down wrong (b instead of d). When I arrived I was surprised to learn the nightly rate was $178.40 when the advertised rate for rooms was approx. $90 but I was exhausted and hungry. After dinner I asked the front desk clerk if he could adjust the rate, I understood him to say he could (my friend also thought so) but after I went to my room and came back (10min later) he said he could not. I asked to see a standard room and he told me none were available. In the morning I asked a different clerk to adjust the rate as I paid twice the rate of a standard room. She was surprised the suite was $178 but said she couldn't make the change. She did take my info and said a manager would call. On Nov 23 I missed a call from Alyssa. I called back and spoke to her. She was quite rude and told me she could not adjust the rate and that I should have made a change after receiving the email or when I checked in. I explained I didn't receive an email and that I tried to get an adjustment or change rooms but I couldn't. She cut me off and said if I was going to keep complaining she would hang up the phone. I said okay and hung up. I would appreciate the gm or owner of the Inn call or email me back. I feel like I was upsold a room based on my disability. If I had known the rate was double the rate shown online I would have booked a different hotel and I want to make sure this doesn't happen to other disabled travelers. read more

Drove to Ashland from Portland Oregon, only needed a one night stay, we called the hotel and a very kind receptionist answered our questions and set us up with a room for the night, room was so clean and the linen on the king size bed smelled so clean and fresh. We really enjoyed our two-day stay with lower rates on a Sunday and Monday in the off-season. It's a great hotel for an extended stay. For us the older aspects of the place were part of its charm--it feels historic, well cared-for, and charming. All the facilities were comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The serve-yourself breakfast in a spacious room was impressive in its variety and quality of food items. Location is good---close to downtown, with some noise from the adjacent major street but very quiet late at night. We left some items behind and were able to pick them up a week later. I stayed one night here and enjoyed my stay. I appreciated that our room had a mini fridge with freezer, microwave, and air purifier. The front desk staff was courteous and checking in/out was easy. I didn't have a pet with me but didn't see any reason why I wouldn't feel comfortable staying here with one. Our room was clean and cozy but the bed was a bit uncomfortable which is why I deducted a star. The hotel is conveniently located next to a Safeway and has a parking lot. Great place. About a 15 minute walk to the theatres. We had two very comfy spacious beds with plenty of pillows, fresh linens, and artfully arranged towels. Even the toilet paper was a treat. Hardwood floors (great for those with allergies), ample parking, elevator for those having trouble negotiating stairs. I enjoy the subtle half-timbre interior decoration. The complimentary breakfast was lovely - real oatmeal or yoghurt (both plain and vanilla) with plenty of seed and nut topping options. Wouldn't have minded some fresh fruit topping options but I was so happy to have real oatmeal that frozen blueberries were just fine. Also breads and muffins and juices and coffee and cocoa, the usual. It's the oatmeal and yoghurt bar that really stood out. I was super excited about the saline pool which is great for water aerobics or just splashing around, but far too small to actually swim in. Also there is no shower poolside which I find bizarre. Two bathrooms off the pool, neither of which have a shower. I tried to splash down as well as possible in the sink but...really? Please add a pool side shower, saline pools are no better than any other kind of chlorine if you can't clean off really well before getting in! read more
