Do not buy a case for your new iPhone at this store. The quality of Apple's products are a cut above everyone else, but for some reason, their cases are solely lacking. They're prone to cracking and flaking within just several months of purchase. What's worse is they tell you there's a warranty and then when you bring in your damaged case, they tell you there actually is no warranty. The reason to spend more for Apple devices and accessories is the quality of their products, their warranties and their customer service. At this location, in terms of their cases, they are unable to deliver in all three of those areas. Stay away. read more

I went in having an issue with my application for the iPhone 11 preorder. The gentleman that was designated to help me after waiting 15 minutes was way too quick on the gun to resolve my issue and kept looking around like he wanted to help someone else instead. I don't know if they work off commission or not but I definitely didn't get the time of time I needed from this Apple worker. And after trying 10 times to get my application through (I ended up having an address issue where I just finished moving a few weeks ago), I decided to stop and bring my business to T-Mobile where they are much more helpful and I can put in my preorder much easier. First of all you have to book an appointment to get in which is dumb, why can't there be a 20 person limit or something else. Second of all you have to wait in line inside and they will ask you what you want to shop for exactly. You can't even go inside and look around you have to look at a certain thing. Then you have someone helping you throughout looking which feels annoying because they are just staring at you while trying to look around. Wow. Horrible service. I just spoke with a supervisor at the Apple Store. I wanted to speak with an employee on the floor, who was familiar with Apple products. I couldn't get a word in because I was interrupted so many times. I inquired about an accessory purchased at the store. Despite looking at the product online while reading her the specific name of the product (spelling an all), she "had no idea what I was talking about." Ummm... can't you try to look it up? She proceeded to explain the difference between Apple products and apple computers (really? thanks. I had no idea). The term "monitor" seemed confusing for her. She became flustered, interrupted me was incredibly condescending. I asked manufacturer's name or if she knew anything about the company "I would have to google it..." Umm, so can I. What a waste of time. I'm confident an average Apple customer has more knowledge than this "supervisor." I am positive a regular employee has more knowledge than this "supervisor." I left with my laptop unfixed, situation the exact same, wasted 4 hours there and left with makeup dripping down my face from tears. This was the first time I've ever been so appalled, disappointed and hurt by such horrible service that I CRIED RIGHT THERE IN THE STORE. Yes...that happened and it sucked. Staff is very rude, don't care to attend to us students even though we have an appointment, very unwilling to help, staff is not well-trained, didn't know what to do. Managers didn't show any sort of care. Overall, the WORST experience I've had at apple. Everyone who was there the day I went should be fired for horrible customer service. And it wasn't just me, the lady next to me had someone helping her and he was SUPER UNFRIENDLY, quite rude and very impatient. I will NEVER be back here again. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. read more

Having been to nearly every Apple store in the Bay Area, New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Paris, Beijing, and Shanghai, I can quite confidently state that this is the worst Apple Store there is. (The Bay Street store is a close second, though. Why must the two East Bay Apple stores suck?) After receiving a defective iPad -- its screen was all scratched up -- I set up a Genius Bar appointment at the Berkeley store. Although I arrived on time, I was asked to wait 45 minutes. (I didn't complain.) After a few pointed questions, the "genius" agreed to replace my iPad with a refurbished model. He told me to set it up at home, since he was busy.) When I got home, I turned on the iPad and noticed that half the screen was significantly dimmer than the other. Somewhat annoyed, I scheduled a second Genius Bar appointment. (This one was at night.) Again, the "genius" replaced my iPad with another refurbished model. This time, I adamantly stated that I wanted to set up the iPad in store to make sure it was working. She said "ok" and simply walked away. A couple of minutes later, I notice a huge speck of dust under the screen. It was right in the middle of the screen. After spending 5 minutes trying to get the attention of the "genius," she finally came. I asked for another replacement. She told me that because the store was closing in an hour, they could no longer do exchanges. I would need to schedule another appointment and come back a THIRD time. And so I did. The "genius" was young man this time. He inspected the device and told me that they had no replacements. However, they could order for one. Frustrated, I agreed. I asked him if there was anything they could do about my Apple headphones (the generic white ones). Although out of warranty, I had only used them for a couple of days and the volume buttons were not working. He said there was nothing he could do BUT that he could direct me to a website where I could find out when my warranty expired. Then, I would know when I should have exchanged the headphones. (How exactly does this help me?!) (I was able to replace them at the Palo Alto store no questions asked.) At this point, I asked him if he could leave a note telling store employees to check to see if the ordered iPad worked before calling me to come in the store again. (I explained it was taking me 90 minutes EACH way to get to the store by public transit. I had already spent over 12 hours trying to replace my iPad and would rather not come back for naught.) He straight up said "no," and ACCUSED ME OF LYING about the duration of my commute. After explaining to him in detail why my commute took 90 minutes (I was living off campus far from the bus station), he told me that although it was "perhaps" true that I had spent considerable time coming in, so had he. He was having to "spend his time" helping me. Flabbergasted, I asked if I could speak to a manager. At the very least, I was hoping that (1) I would receive an apology for having spent so much time and (2) that I would be reassured that I would receive a defect-free product the next time. (One of my friends who had also had problems with his iPad received a free smart cover when he exchanged his iPad. This was at a different store, of course.) The "genius" left me and approached this young (early to mid-20s) asian male employee. They talked for a few minutes, laughing. Then the young man approached me. (Hmm... I thought I had asked to speak to a store manager?) Claiming he was the manager, the man asked me what my problem was. I told him about my numerous trips, and my fear that were I to come in again, I would receive another defective product. AGAIN, he ACCUSED ME OF LYING about my commute. Then, he told me that I "should be grateful that I had already received THREE FREE iPads." (FREE??? I paid nearly $700 for my iPad!) I told him that my friend had received a free smart cover. He told me that I must be lying again and that what my friend did was "unethical" and violated store policy. Then, he told me that although it "sucked" that I had to come in three times already, HE had to come in everyday! He canceled the order for the replacement, and told me I should go to another Apple store where they "would give me a free smart cover." (Of course, he was being sarcastic.) In all my visits to Apple stores (or any other store for that matter), I have NEVER encountered such a rude store "manager." (It's funny how his badge did not say "manager" on it.) I cannot believe that Apple would let such an employee work for it. I am also dumbstruck that Apple doesn't seem to be doing anything about the Fourth Street store, which has ONLY 2.5 STARS on Yelp! I ended up going to the Bay Street store (another terrible store). After 2 more appointments -- that makes five appointments in all -- I was finally the proud owner of a defect-free iPad! read more

Avoid coming to this Apple if at all possible. We'll be crossing the Bay to use the SF location from now on. We bought a MacBook Pro charger here in August that stopped working two days ago. We know the issue isn't the computers because our other charger (which happens to be much older) works. We're currently waiting for a technician, who we assume is going to plug in our charger to see that it really doesn't work. Why the person who checked us in can't do that is beyond us. Ultimately, it's an incredible wait to exchange a faulty product this store itself sold us for one that works. read more

Last night I tried updating my iPhone and it crashed. It was 6:30pm and I started to panic. I absolutely needed my phone because I had Depeche Mode tickets in it! I hightailed it to the Apple Store like a crazed person. I had no appointment, and they were busy as always, but a dear kind soul helped me through my crisis. Rueben didn't have to help me, but he did. I was about to flip the hell out, but he was calm, patient, and reassuring. He explained what happened and even though I'm completely ignorant of most technology, he never made me feel stupid - which is a big plus when dealing with tech peeps. I was one of those really easy sale customers. I went in with two products in mind, wanted to compare in person and buy immediately. I can't get over how froo-froo 4th street can be. And so were the sales associates. When I walked in, 3 "geniuses" were in the middle of a conversation, ignored me completely and didn't even bother saying hi. When I finally waved a sales associate over, she basically agreed with everything I said and provided ZERO advice or depth regarding my inquiries. Stupid fat guy in the blue shirt was annoying (again). In fact, I'd say three out of four times I come here, the first person I talk to in blue shirt (Apple store employee) is an idiot. So whereas Yelp isn't quite the place to review Apple products or Apple Stores in general, I have to comment about the employees here. I walked in this morning a bit after their 10AM opening. Traffic was light on both street and on foot going into the store, but a meter maid was visibly circling. I parked close by, inserted some coins, quickly walked in and got the bearded fat guy's attention. I said to him, "I'd like to buy the new iPad." He asked me which model. His first reaction was that he thought the store didn't have them (cellular models) yet. I told him the website said they did. I showed him. I was holding the printout of the online order where it says in-store pickup is now available. So as there were few customers, he spoke into his microphone blah blah blah. Sounded himself with some authority. And with earbuds on, he turned to me and said, "it'll be just a few minutes." I was mildly curious why there wasn't a line on this first day of iPad4 cellular in stock, so I asked him, "what time do you get your shipments?" He said they're not allowed to disclose such information, but answered, "We have the iPads. They're bringing it out for you right now." Okay. So I waited. And waited. And waited. Over 20 minutes later, some young guy in blue shirt with a manager tag comes out and chitchats with me. I told him the guy (pointing to the fat guy) has already helped me but thank you. He continued to ask if I had any questions in the meantime. So we chitchatted for awhile. This dude couldn't answer my questions about processor speed, but no biggie. He's in sales I thought. Not tech. Five minutes later, another guy in blue shirt comes over. Manager dude wanted to hand me over to him. Said he could help me, presumably about processor speeds. But still no iPad for me. WTH? I don't have all day. So I interrupted, "I'm parked for only 30 minutes. What's taking so long? Are they still unloading the boxes off truck?" Upon which these guys finally realized that the fat guy never took my order! The manager dude had no clue what's going on. The third guy finally processed me with his nifty little checkout thingie (a misleadingly smart-looking whiz-bang iPod Touch held by every idiot employee). Got my credit card swiped, signed, receipt emailed, no bag needed, and I'm outta there in seconds flat like it should've been from the get go. Hundreds of dollars in profit per device per customer for Apple and this is how employees spend their work days! Potentially five stars for any Apple Store, but due to employee incompetence and poor communication, it's no higher than two stars here. Too bad. read more

On Monday I decided to try and see if I could get a drop in appointment at the Genius Bar. Yes It was my lucky day. I was told it may be up to a 40 minute wait---which was fine. I immersed myself into the joy of a demo MacAir laptop----fast fast fast. i don't even remember what I looked up I was entranced. My poor laptop has taken quite a beating over the last 5 years. I have been to many Genius Bars during this time and have gotten great hep from the Apple stores in Walnut Creek, Corte Madera, Portland and elsewhere/ This time around I arrived with #1 a LOG IN screen lifeless on my screen since the password includes one of the three letters that no longer works on my keyboard. #2 a possibly dead wired keyboard that i had been using since my laptop keyboard is not fully operational. #3 a new wireless keyboard that I couldn't connect since I couldn't log in Ok...blah blah blah.. Yup I'm pathetic. But..Apple came to my rescue again. Actually it was BRECK whose name I thought was Brad. (Found out it was Breck when I took the online customer survey emailed to me) Even though ordinary humans would have felt like strangling me or at least roll their eyes, Breck kindly and patiently walked me through ad fixed all the issues. YAY! I told him in gratitude I'd give him my first born "child" but Breck replied."That's okay I have an 18 year old!" Give this man a HUGE raise! read more

Yelp considers me a regular here. I'm no Apple fangirl - it's just that the geniuses at the Genius Bar here are unable to fix my problems in one go. Not their fault necessarily, but why don't they believe me when I say that my Macbook goes to sleep randomly when on battery power? It's a universal truth that you can't replicate errors in front of a service technician. That peculiarity aside, they manage their Genius Bar queue rather poorly. Even if you have an appointment, you can expect a wait of 10-15 minutes. If you don't, good luck - they expect you to stay on the premises and wait for your name to be called, which can take 45 minutes or more on a weekend. Some of the employees are friendly, but most times, the guy with the iPad checking people in looks at you like you're a cog on an assembly line. read more

This is the worst Apple Store experience I've had in the 10 years and two states! - Misdiagnosed the issue, instead of 3 hours to get done took 3 days but didn't get a call from them for 5 days, - then I come to pick it up, we check it something is wrong with launch, I point it out to Genius Bar rep, he assures me it'll go away. Obviously it didn't. - I find More issues everyday preventing all apps from running properly. - two more weeks to get an appointment, hour and a half waiting now I'm still in limbo. My iPhone which I replaced 2 month ago broke with no reason so I took it here. A lady who checked my iPhone could not fix the problem so I thought they were going to exchange it to new one since my warranty was still valid. But she said " your warranty is expired so you have to buy new one. But maybe you will be qualified for standard upgrade. In that case, you just have to pay $199 plus tax!" I told her I replaced it 2month ago and warranty should be good for 3 month! How could my warranty expired? I don't get it! But she just kept saying I am sorry and she did not do anything about it. So I took my iPhone to Apple Store in SF. They exchanged it to new one right away. I could not believe it! I know I am shouting into the abyss when trying to share feedback on the world's largest company but here I am. I was using an older device this morning - it was working swimmingly. I had just purchased a new one for myself and was going to give it to my son. One final step before doing that - erase content and settings. That is exactly how it is phrased. No mention of resetting the OS to a completely and irretrievably unusable OS (version 9) that can't be upgraded and can't even install Google chrome. I took it here to the genius bar. Surely if the OS were up to date this morning before that reset they should have some ability to make it so again. No. They repeated over and over how the device was old and therefore not something they were prepared to offer any support on nor to offer any discount on replacing the now completely unusable and bricked device. I feel like apple is the new Verizon. That isn't a compliment. read more

Boy, the people that work here seems pissy. I went here on a Sunday (store kind of quiet) just to look around. While checking out the MacBook, I noticed from store.apple.com, that they have a specific MFI game controller in stock. I approached one of the Genius who's just standing around and ask for the controller. He seems puzzled and said "Talk to Eliza (not sure if this is the right spelling)". I went to Eliza and asked about the controller. She just look at the display and said "Nope". Then I pointed out that from Apple website, it said that it is in stock for pickup here. She doesn't seem to happy and start searching for the controller in her iPhone. She found another one and ask which color I want. I said that that's the wrong one, and showed it again the correct one. She again seems pissy and entered the item number. Nada, and said "Nope, it's gone!" Ok, no problem. But for my education, I ask her how can the website show "Available today" for pick up when it is not. Is it because I somebody else have bought it or...? She seems VERY pissed off and said "Website is wrong, Apple don't update the inventory accurately." And.. just walk away to help other customer. WTH?! Apple is known to have good customer service, but I hope they read the review here so that this ONE bad employee, Eliza, can be dealt with and not tarnish Apple overall reputation. read more

This place is turning into a real life Hooli. I depend on my computer for work, and it recently experienced a crippling failure under normal use conditions. Mind you, this is the second time the same failure has happened to me. You think they'd be able to engineer these things not to fail in such a repeatable and predictable way. When it takes two weeks to schedule an appointment to get them to even look at it, you play the walk in game, which is a total waste of time, but it's not like you can get any work done anyway so might as well sit there dejectedly and warm people about the issues with their products and explain what their post-purchase customer service is like. And of course, watch other people walk in with "Oh, I dropped my phone in the toilet this morning, can I get it fixed?" And get seen right away. read more

When a repair was needed on my machine (just out if warranty) they did not offer consistent help and sensible explanations as they went through the process of attempting a diagnosis. They wiped out my hard drive without asking permission. I did not have a consistent person working on my problem; they passed me to 3 people in three hours plus one higher manger. In the end I had no notes of what they did to my machine as they would not let me see the notes which would have been helpful when I took it to an authorized service in the area. I do NOT recommend them for any complex diagnostics and repairs especially if you are out of warranty! Good for shopping only! read more

I probably should have read the Yelp reviews first...but this store is a 10 minute walk from my job. My overall experience was terrible - I was rushed out of the store, not given the paper copy of what I signed and told to go to apple.com to look up the customer support number. I came in to get a new battery as part of the battery replacement program. I made an appointment for 2 hours later and rushed back once I got the text message that I could come check in for my repair. The repair order stated that my screen was in good condition as was my enclosure. I returned for my phone 2 hours after drop off and saw that the screen had blue streaks. The person who returned my phone did not say anything until I asked why it was this way. He said their team wasn't responsible for damages to the devices. I refused to sign the pick up waiver and he said it didn't matter. I left the store, turned back around and decided to look for a manager. The person I spoke with next (the original employee was nowhere in sight) after checking in again was hesitant to provide a paper copy of what I signed at check in. She directed me to my email (which was is on my phone) and I asked if I could just have a paper print out. She disappeared and came back with one. She explained more about why they wouldn't fix my screen that they had damaged. I asked if there was someone else to speak with. She directed me to corporate and told me that corporate will just come back to her and ask her side of the story. She instructed me to head to apple.com. When I chatted and called apple, they also disappointed. I discovered I could have attempt to resolve the issue in store and on the phone the first time, but each of the people in apple service just passed me from person to person. I would not recommend this store for anything you might need. read more

Ok, four visits is it...comedy of errors over there at Apple on 4th. I swore off the Bay Street store for its customer service or lack of, and sadly have experienced the same-no WORSE at 4th Street. I think the Apple store has entered into the realm of Home Depot or Comcast or AT&T. Generally blah service, but it depends on who you get. I've gone in to multiple stores and had great, ok and bad experiences at all of them. My favorite one that happens fairly often: Me: Hey Genius Bar dude! My ________ isn't working properly. Genius Bar dude: Do you have an appointment Me: No, it just started happening, so I thought I'd stop in Genius Bar dude: You have to make an appointment, we're all booked up Me: Stands around and watches the Genius Bar Jerk offs stand around and talk with each other about their weekends for 15-30 minutes while no one comes in for help or for an appointment. There have been times where they have been very helpful, so I don't want to paint them all with one brush, but come on! Plus your headphones are crap (I haven't tried the newest ones), they don't last as long as $10 Phillips or $15 Sony ones from Target/Best Buy, or have the same sound quality. Your cases are overpriced, and break pretty easily. (Go on Amazon and buy cases anywhere from $0.01 to $2.99 (all with free shipping) i keep wondering why i go in... oh well read more

Apple stores are meant to be friendly. Quick. Efficient. A good customer experience. Not this one. The worst Apple store so far. I walked in trying to buy an iPhone. It took 10 minutes before anyone of the geniuses could get his act together to be available. I think I asked about 5 of them. They were all too busy being busy. Even the suggestion that unless someone was going to help me I'd go to another store to buy an Android phone was met with a shrug. Finally I was awarded the rare opportunity to purchase one of Apple's exquisite masterpieces. Or so it felt. And I had to be grateful to be allowed to part with my money for a new phone. Or so it felt. In summary, there are much better Apple stores around. Avoid this one. Presumptiousness and bad service abound. read more

I have always enjoyed our visits to the Apple Stores. Service has always been tip top and a total pleasurable experience. This visit started off well but has ended with a thud. We headed to the new 4th Street location after hearing it was never crowded. That seemed to be the case, compared to other locations but seemed rather unorganized at the door as we got in the line to be helped. We patiently waited half an hour, and to their credit, we were reassured twice that someone would be over to help us. Tis the season after all and we didn't expect instant service during the Christmas rush. The person at the door that was taking names must have switched roles, and came over to complete our purchase of a iPhone 4S. Although the transaction went smoothly, service seemed somewhat stilted and rushed but again...tis the season. Fast forward 3 days later we realize that we've been double billed for the purchase. Calling the Apple store for help was a nightmare. First we're told we have to come back to the store to be helped. That would mean an hour round trip in holiday traffic - NOT! After a second call and we were basically told they couldn't figure out what happened and we'd have to call the bank. Finally on the third phone call asking to speak with a manager they agreed to call the bank and remove the double billing. So it took approximately 2 hours on the phone to get someone to fix their mistake, without even an apology. Sorry we're such an inconvenience to you. Not what I'd consider Customer Service at it's finest. We've spent a small fortune at Apple and will probably continue to do so but this will not be our go-to Apple store in the future. read more

OMG I've been dreading to come into any Apple Store. The lines seem to be sssooo long and making an appointment when I'm desperate was not happening. I've been to  the Walnut Creek/Palo Alto stores before uuuggh so I wasn't too keen on coming to this particular branch. But I took a chance on because 1 I was freakin desperate and 2 - It was close to work. I figured what I needed was super easy and I would hopefully be in and out in a matter of minutes. From Ashby down town to the Apple Store I went. Got there and got great parking, probably because it was around 10 or 10:30am. I can only imagine how parking is after 12noon. Any hoot walked in and was greeted right away. Sorry dude I forgot your name - but he was super helpful. (Bro I love you!!)  My i-phone 8+  was disabled something serious and the only way to get it back from space was to have everything erased. Okay cool. But I needed an appointment. NNNNOOOOOOOO bro. Told the guy I escaped from work just to have this done and I couldn't be gone long before someone figured out I made the great escape. He understood - called one of his colleagues over and everything I needed was taken care of. 30min minimum. Needless to say I was a Happy Ass Camper walking out of there. Thank you so much APPLE! You literally made my day that day and even today and to the 2 guys that helped me out... again so freakin sorry I forgot your names but you guys rock!!!! read more

First off- I avoid this high-end shopping district at all costs, but a last-minute computer issue seemed like it was worth braving the crowds of self-entitled yuppies, so I headed down there. My dread was almost immediately justified by the 2 people who just wandered out across 4th Street, nowhere near an intersection, let alone a crosswalk, stopping traffic in both directions. So I was in a foul mood when I walked into this Apple store. The greeter at the door, a young caucasian man with glasses and I think a ginger beard, was friendly and quickly let me know that for admittedly logical reasons, what I wanted to do today at the store was not possible the way that I thought it would be. He confirmed this with another worker. Unfortunately, I showed my frustration at the situation. I think I was being as haughty and entitled as the 2 street wanderers were a few minutes beforehand outside. I want to apologize for being a jerk to the pleasant, patient clerk. I came in to get my iPhone 6 repaired because my screen cracked. Thanks to Genius Bar appointment system, I was able to sit comfortably at the table while waiting for an employee to help me. Within 5 minutes of waiting, I was greeted by "Mary" and she took my phone into the back. And not 5 minutes later, she comes out and tells me that I have a 3rd party screen on my phone and wishes me a good day. At that point, I was so surprised that I was at a loss of words. I tried explaining how I have Applecare and that I only purchased it less than a year ago. I probably sounded suspicious since I was genuinely so confused, but that doesn't excuse what she did next. She grabbed her iPad with an air of determination to present some kind of evidence to prove my guiltiness and finally said, "You actually bought this in June last year, in 2015." ... I literally had nothing to say. At this point, I turned red because I didn't know whether to explain to her that June 2015 was only 7 months ago or that she tried to falsely accuse me AGAIN for lying. Anyway, I sat there dumbfounded for another 3 minutes before getting up and going. My only speculation is this-- she never actually took off the screen to look inside, since it was cracked and was probably cumbersome to do so. Whatever her motivations are, she didn't help at all. I don't know where to find a "real" Apple screen before coming back. But you best believe I will comment again in the future when I get my iPhone replaced. I paid 100 bucks for AppleCare and I'm sure as hell going to get my money's worth. read more

You really can count on Apple should you have any issues with your iPhone. We went in here on a Sunday morning without an appointment to deal with the cracked screen of my husband's iPhone 5S. He dropped his caseless phone on concrete when he was in the Safeway parking a couple of days ago and the screen cracked like crazy! He really needed to get the screen replaced. One of the specialists told us that they were going to squeeze us in between appointments and told us to wait and sit by the Macbook Pros. They told us that replacing the screen was going to cost $129, which was fine with us. He does not have phone insurance and the phone is out of warranty as it is more than a year old, so we really have no choice but to eat up the cost of screen replacement. When they got around to us, the specialist told us that the screen replacement machine was out of order, so they are going to replace his iPhone 5S instead with a new phone for the same price as the screen replacement. Wow! You can imagine how happy we were to hear that! 10 minutes later, we left the Apple Store with a brand new working phone for my husband. Yay! Having learned his lesson, he now sports one of the many iPhone 5 cases that I own to prevent another screen disaster! Thanks to Apple for the fast and smooth service! read more

I went in 10 mins early prior to my appointment. After checking in, I realized there was one person working at the Genius Bar. Here I am waiting with an appt while 5 other people we're walk ins who are being helped. Thirty mins later, I am still waiting and finally someone was updating me on my wait status. An hour and a half later, I was out the door with a new phone battery. 3 stars for the long wait and for being understaffed... otherwise the staff is helpful and nice. read more
