A group of us came here for marathon and half marathon one weekend. We came here before we headed back to Seattle. Hm... I am not sure why we picked this but sure, the restaurant did take care of us, hungry runners! Well, I would love to order their half price bloody mary but I was heading to a crazy bike ride after lunch and I couldn't really consume alcohol or stuff myself too much. I had two eggs with hashbrown. All the food we ordered around the group seemed pretty good! They had fun with those bloody mary challenge. I love the hospitality. They not only accommodated our big group and separate check, but also refilled my water bottles for my crazy bike ride! Love it! First time visit ever after a 2 night camping trip just wanted a quick sit down hot meal on a clean table: we were greeted at the entry on a crowded day and sat within 5-10mins by the awesome host extremely good attitude, tracked people down as the name came up and table was ready he also accommodated a larger table with an open booth and an additional side chair. We were greeted at the table with a poor attitude waitress. Everyone else looked like they enjoyed their job bussers were very quick with water soda coffee and all needed refills like the cream for the coffee. The waitress returned twice within 4-5mins asking if we knew what we wanted to order yet, which we barely had enough time to look at the menu and felt very rushed. The menu it self which was extensive due to bfast and lunch menu on the back. The second time she came back we were ready to order drinks. It was at least another 15 before the waitress returned and we ordered food. We were sat by the kitchen and wow those guys are hard working individuals. Massive amounts of plates on the counter ready to go out and no one there to bring them out. Waiters would come by and reach over other meals finding their table orders; definitely gave an odd vibe. The menu: Walking to the table we noticed the large sized omelette, and skillet and were very excited for the menu. Unfortunately of what we ordered The standard breakfast is a let down for the price, the minced is literally 2 eggs tiny portion highly don't recommend them for the price. Frustrating description on the standard didn't include strong punctuation and seemed as it was coming with toast, and hash browns or pancakes and it was simply toast and hash browns OR pancakes. The BOB was excellent meal to split with an additional side order of pancakes. This issue was advised at check out with our waitress and she held a smirk with no responses and continued ringing us up... pretty poor customer service for someone who paid $13 for a german sausage 2 pancakes and 2 eggs. I would return but this restaurant seems to be lacking teamwork and communication between their peers and waitstaff. A few photos on the menu may be another good idea, this restaurant could have minor changes and be really, really good. read more

I recently moved to Chelan and this place was our second home when we arrived. We hadn't made any friends yet and were so lonely all winter. If it wasn't for the kind staff at this restaurant (especially Robin) we may have packed it up and moved back to California. Within a couple visits, they were greeting us by name and the regulars were stopping at our table to say hi and tell jokes. We always go for the bar specials which are an insanely good deal. My favorites are Cheeseburger night, Chicken Fried Steak Slider night, and the Steak Dinner night. Where else can you get a decent steak (cooked properly) baked potato, and salad for less than $10? We recently tried their bingo night which is free and hosted by the funniest guy. They definitely go out of their way to provide the locals and tourists with a good time. I had the pleasure of eating breakfast at Apple Cup Cafe while I was having a Labor Day girls weekend in Chelan. First of all, our server was kind, friendly, attentive and made great recommendations. The place is low-key and simple with a good variety of menu choices. Secondly, breakfast was great! I had the homemade cottage cheese pancakes with homemade orange buttermilk syrup and it was DELICIOUS!!! The syrup is so tasty I wanted to lick it right off the plate! I highly recommend this for pancake fans of all stripes. I originally thought four pancakes was going to be way too much for me, but I ended up happily devouring the whole batch! Next time I'm in the area I want to try the Eggs Bearnaise, Swedish Pancakes Chelan Style, or the Chocolate Hazelnut Banana Crepes--so many good options! As for the folks on here complaining about this place, I'm not sure why they're expecting fine dining and perfect steak dinners at a homey joint like this. It's obviously a chill, casual establishment that doesn't take itself too seriously, which I think is a plus, esp. when I'm vacationing. My wife and I stayed at Wapato Point and found this place on Restaurant.com Read the reviews here and thought we give it a go. We went 3 times in the week we stayed, twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The breakfast portions were large and well priced. My wife got the build your own Omelette and it was huge! With the order she got pancakes. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with toast. Delicious! My wife wanted shrimp for dinner and we checked the menu of the "seafood restaurant" downtown and I thought I was going to have a heart attack looking at the prices. Almost 26 bucks for shrimp dinner. So I thought we'd give the Apple Cup Cafe a go for dinner. She got the popcorn shrimp and chips and I got the fish and chips. Normally popcorn shrimp means small, but these were anything but, and the portion was larger than most places I've eaten, the price was under 10 bucks! The fish was Halibut not cod or even cheap pollock you find in other joints, and again under 10 bucks. We came back on Thursday for our last breakfast in town. You know when all the locals are hitting this place up, it's the place to be for good food. We had the same waitress for the 1st breakfast and dinner, and a different one for the last breakfast. Service was quick, we did have to wait a little for breakfast on Sunday, but given how many people were in there, it was understandable. Quick to fill coffee, I use this as a gauge for service, if my cup never goes empty, it's a plus, but they were filling me up at the half cup mark. Overall a great place! I hate absolutely hate that I have to update my review to a more negative one which truly saddens me. This used to be a must stop for my family and I on our frequent trips to Chelan! Up too six times a year! New owners took over this mom and pop joint and clearly they have lowered there standards of food quality drastically! My fiancé ordered a breakfast sandwich which he has ordered a few dozen times and this time the eggs that they used were the boxed premixed crap, and the cheese was the fake crap that they didn't even bother to try and melt. I almost always order the BOB half order and was disappointed, the gravy was bland and biscuits hard, also over heard the cooks complain about me wanting extra crispy hash browns. Really?? A few extra mins on the griddle is gonna kill you man?? (I would have understood if they were slammed but this time it was a pretty empty place) Ps. Don't get the coffee-get a soda or juice they switched brands or just keep reusing the grounds because it was beyond horrible and had to ask for new creamer I could tell the one on the table had been sitting out for awhile! Our waitress was extremely pleasant and always enjoy seeing her on our trips! The 2 stars does not reflect the wait staff at all just the poor quality food and cooks! read more

Good food, good service, great BREAKFAST! German sausage with eggs over easy, wheat toast and perfectly cooked hash browns. The hash browns surprised me. Crunchy outside, soft inside, not greasy at all... perfectly golden brown. Wonderful. The German sausage was sliced length-ways and grilled. A tad spicy and very delicious. Service is wonderful and welcoming. We'd had a busy day and were ready to eat when we got here. We had breakfast for dinner and it was so satisfying. I had a country skillet which I devoured quickly. Apple Cup Cafe is the hang out where all the locals go! It sits about 6-7 blocks from the downtown area. It is your friendly, basic American style diner. Breakfast is served, sandwiches/salads/burgers are your standard fare. I had the Reuben with fries. It was really good. Whenever I'm in Chelan I'll have at least one meal here - an excellent American diner! Left Seattle early May for a couple days exploring in dry country. Had dinner here one evening after all day riding the Lady of the Lake. I had chicken fried steak with appropriate sides; it was excellent, very tasty but not at all greasy. They serve breakfast - lunch - dinner and everything looked good. Apple Cup has different "chef's specials" every evening plus a selection of fresh, homemade pies. Umm umm good... This isn't a gourmet French place, it's an American diner. If you have a big hunger, want to quash it with some outstanding diner food, this is the place! read more

I've been here everytime I've been in Chelan (probably about half-a-dozen times), and it is consistently a good experience. My most recent visit, I had the clubhouse on sourdough with fries and a strawberry shake. The clubhouse was solid and the strawberry shake was in the top 3 shakes I've ever had. She had french toast and coffee. Also very good. Our server was Donna, who was very friendly, very fast, and very attentive. Great place for breakfast or lunch, and a staple in Chelan! read more

This place was not good. We ordered the chicken fried steak and the food was less than average. It lacked any salt and the beef just tasted like rubberized Swiss beef. The pancakes were less than average too. Coffee was really bad. Joyce the waitress was terrific and was a great server. But because the food was really not good I will not be going back. We just ate at this little spot, mostly because of the reviews and when we arrived there was a "buy local" sticker in the window. While I don't doubt the sincerity of the staff, our experience left much to be desired. In short: mediocre service, bland food not fresh, flies, bad coffee, food comes out very fast after placing order (this could be a good thing for families with kids). The waitress was nice enough, though didn't crack much of a smile or attempt to make even the briefest of pleasantries. She just got the job done. The good news, in our case, was that the food came super fast! Like so fast I would normally see this as a negative but we have young kids, so today this was a huge positive. But the bad news... Coffee was so watered down and had little flavor. Worst "diner" coffee I have ever had. The cream was milk, not 1/2 and 1/2. I had the banana hazelnut creeps. The bananas were so over ripe I could not finish the one crepe. My 9 month old son who loves bananas kept spitting them out and finally started batting my spoon away if I tried to feed him more. My husband ordered eggs Benedict and he said his food tasted fine but it was luke warm. His plate also came with a peach and strawberry garnish. The strawberry was close to rotten. No one ate it. The peach was from a can. My daughters ordered chocolate chip pancakes and they were a hit. I tried them too and they were really good. And then there were the flies... One kept flying around my face and one landed on my food... Ick. When my husband and I left we just looked at each other with frowns wishing we could could ask for a refund or even more so wish we would have chosen a different place to eat. For a family with 5 eaters we paid 45 plus a tip for our meals and two coffees. Not worth the price for what we ate. I will not eat here again. read more

I don't know... the food was not bad and the service was actually better than average, but there was a weird smell permeating around the area we were sitting and that just tainted the place for me. Also, we are used to a plethora of good breakfast options in Seattle, so maybe take this review with a grain of salt. I do want to note that our waiter went all the way to the coffee place next door to get us an iced mocha, and the drink was actually really good! My husband's country fried steak was just okay, would not recommend it. I had the half BOB, which is an egg over a sausage patty over a biscuit with gravy and cheese poured over the whole thing. The egg and sausage were good but the biscuit was too dense and powdery. Portions are big so you won't leave hungry, but perhaps not so satisfied. read more

Our server was a doll, she was friendly and sweet. She was on top of our order and brought drink refills often. She did a great job. The food and the rest of the staff however left me not wanting to return. Food was not good. I got a chicken sandwich that tasted like it had a layer of rubber around the chicken breast. The thing that bothered me most was: when we left there was a van in the parking lot with a small dog inside scratching at the window. There were no windows cracked!! It was only about 60 degrees outside, but they say that vehicles can heat up 20-40 degrees hotter than outdoor temp. It was about 11am, so bound to only get hotter. I went inside and told one of the ladies inside what I saw and asked if she cIould try to find the owner. She said she would look into it. (who knows how long they would be in the restaurant). I decided to wait in the lot to see if anyone actually came out to check on the dog. After 15min no one came out so I went back in. I talked to the 18-30 year old gal (maybe a hostess?) who responded with a very attitude-y "I don't know whose dog it is". I asked if she could maybe ask around at some of the tables. And she just stared at me like I was crazy. I will admit that I have a soft spot for animals and maybe this animal wasn't in critical danger at only 60 degrees BUT I do think that she could have gone around to various tables and diplomatically said "we are hoping to find the owner of a white van that is parked outside. Another patron was concerned that the windows aren't cracked for the dog inside, so we just wanted to be sure that the owner knows". I realize that it is not the employees responsibility to protect animals outside, however I would think that with the small-town family atmosphere of this place that they would want to look out for their patrons in a way that is congruent with that family atmosphere. In the end I waited a little longer, left a note on the windshield and left. I am guessing the little dog was okay this time, but I hate to think about what might happen the next time when it is warmer outside... read more

This place was popping with lots of families--tourists mostly I think. There was enough staff to provide prompt and efficient service. I ordered a small meal to be followed by their famous pie. The senior cheeseburger was good, though the onions were strong. Thankfully there was no ranch dressing on the burger. (The ranch dressing fad is not for me.) Remember the classic "Truck Stop" restaurant ? Apple Cup isn't a truck stop, but the food, the service, the decor are like the best Truck Stop you've ever been to. You get seated and served quickly - waitresses make you feel like one of the family. Menu offers an incredible variety - have eaten here dozens of times and Never had a bad meal. And they offer a reduced-price menu page just for Seniors and Kids - a bit smaller portions which is Perfect!! A diner with good food and great service. The steak sandwich was cooked perfectly as we requested for medium rare. It came with crispy fries and fresh salad. It was lots of food. The Mexicali chicken sandwich was pretty good but a little messy as it had sour cream and guacamole. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly. Great diner in downtown Chelan. This is the type of place with big portions and warm service. I got a waffle and pancake special (subbed sausage for a pancake), and slathered everything in their delicious berry syrup. Yum. My wife got the cottage cheese pancakes. There was plenty leftover, because they give you so much food for your money (consider splitting one entree). The coffee wasn't so great -- not worth the two dollars it cost. Overall, this is a homey, nice place to grab breakfast or brunch while in Chelan. I would eat here again. read more

We stopped here on our way through Chelan and it was SO GOOD!! I had a salad, my husband had the Ruben, my son had a deli sandwich, and our girls and food from the kids menu - Mac and cheese and chicken strips. And the kids shared a piece of very yummy chocolate cake! Everything was really good! And the best part was the service! The lady that was serving was the only server in the place and we were so well taken care of. And they had hard cider on tap which was a major added bonus! Great place! read more

Good breakfast at Apple Cup Cafe - prices bring this review down from 4 star. The food was solid with good portions sizes. Each breakfast platter was around $10 or more which can get pricey for a family outing. Adding meat to breakfast really stretches the budget. All of the servers were very friendly and kept our coffees full and hot! The pancakes were tasty. Per the waitress they size them proportionally as a side vs a main dish. Food came out very quick would definitely recommend as long as you aren't picking up the check for a lot of people! read more

Stopped on our way out of Chelan for breakfast. The service here is incredible. The manager takes pride in the place and the customers that come in. He was quick to get his hands dirty if he saw a need and that resonated down through the staff. Had the eggs bernaise. Was really good. Could tell the sauce was made and not a mix. We chose this place out of many choices for my Birthday dinner. So glad we did! Our server Mindi was friendly and helpful too. I got the petite sirloin and it was perfect... melt.in.your.mouth yummy!
