What a great location! I stopped in here to charge my phone, rest a bit and get some ac. I love that it is completely acceptable to just sit in here without buying anything. I observed some Geniuses helping people with technical issues and with comparing different phone models. Customers seemed very happy! I loved the view of the river behind their massive screen. I was able to witness a Today at Apple session on keynotes. The instructor was clear and obviously had a strong grasp on the information being conveyed. This Apple Store was beautifully designed. It looked utterly amazing. The store had a nice layout. It was quite spacious. They had excellent lighting. You can view the Chicago River from the store. It was awesome seeing the river from an Apple Store when they dyed it green for St. Patrick's Day. They obviously have a great location. It looked like they had a lot of staff. I appreciated that it was right on Michigan Ave. It looked like they had a lot of great Apple products. This store has the best views of the river! It is such a gorgeous building with wrap around glass walls. We stopped by to check it out and enjoyed a free class held on the bottom level. This is also where all the products are for sale. Not surprisingly they had a ton of employees which is normally the case at the stores I've been to. This place was definitely a good resting spot to chill at the top while enjoying the views and atmosphere in a chilled building. Like a fool, after three years of going to the Old Orchard (Skokie, IL) Apple Store instead of this one, as I noted I had started to do in my 10/17/21 review, I visited the Michigan Avenue store today to trade-in my MacBook for a different model. And the horribly arrogant, rude, dismissive attitude from three years ago is 100% still there, in full force. It's mind-blowing that the customer-unfriendly attitude here never seems to change. But this visit was worst of all. Over 15 minutes, two salespeople, an assistant manager, and the manager on duty repeatedly ignored my needs (I repeated myself that I was trading in my MacBook for a specific different model at least 8 times); told me I needed a Genius Bar appointment (not for trade-ins); told me I should have made a shopping appointment online (I tried and you can only make one for an Apple VisionPro demo); told me the new base-level 16 gig MacBook Air models "aren't the base models" (they are) because they "still have 8 gigabyte stock" (doesn't matter); and doubled-down on that when I literally pulled out my phone and showed them the Apple website which no longer has 8 gig M3 models for sale. When I asked why they weren't listening to what I came in for and why they were being curt and dismissive, the assistant manager said to me, "We're a flagship store and a lot of people shop here." (When I came in, I walked up to three salespeople standing back by the entrance elevator who were helping no one, and none of them greeted or spoke to me until I interrupted their personal conversation.) When I asked why being a flagship store would justify being rude to customers, she said, "We were very busy before you came in." (Clearly not, since I had to barge into a personal conversation to get helped.) When the manager on duty finally took over and processed my trade-in and purchase, near the end of my time in the store, he apologized (the first employee to do so) and asked what I thought the problem was. I told him, "As I've said over and over, you don't listen to your customers." (Which, you know, there you go.) I told him how my partner and I have avoided the store for three years for the Old Orchard store instead. He asked me what they do better there. I said, "They listen to their customers." (I mean, YOU saw that coming, right? He didn't.) It doesn't matter how busy it gets at Old Orchard. They're never rude, they never ignore you, they're never not glad you're there. The two stores are like night and day. And then I left and this time I'm never going back. I feel like it's the worst Apple Store I've ever experienced in my life. I'll start with the product and the get to the humiliation and mistreatment that left me crying in front of everyone at the Apple store on Michigan Avenue. Apple's silicone case for iPhone offers exactly what you'd expect from a first-party accessory--clean design, a perfect fit, and a range of elegant, appealing colors. The texture is great in the hand: soft touch, slightly grippy, and reassuringly secure without being sticky. It doesn't slide around in your hand or off surfaces, which adds to the feeling of protection. However, the durability and protection just aren't there. Within a few weeks of normal use, the silicone around the edges--especially near the screen--starts to chip and fray. It begins as a small nick or split, but once that happens, the damage tends to grow. The material starts to flake and peel, exposing the fibers plastic beneath the silicone membrane, and making the case look worn and ragged far too quickly. This is particularly disappointing given the premium price tag and Apple's reputation for quality. In short, this case looks and feels great--at first. But it simply doesn't hold up over time. If you're someone who expects your phone case to last longer than a month or two without visible deteriorating, this may not be the right choice. Apple nails the aesthetics, but the durability falls frustratingly short. Apple does technically offer a one-year warranty on the case, and I took it into an Apple Store. The experience was harrowing. The store associate was dismissive and rude, implying the damage was somehow my fault despite it clearly being a workmanship issue. When I asked for a manager, I waited 15 minutes only to be met with someone even ruder, who backed up the associate without hesitation. The best they offered was $10 off a replacement--hardly satisfactory given the circumstances. Again, I was in tears of the store and the manager created a scene, told me to grow up, and tried to grab me to lead me out of the store. Made my first visit to this absolutely gorgeous store for the first time in 2024 on a weekday. Came in because a friend of mine had done an online order and was coming into pick up. This place is huge and gorgeous. Malti levels so many people and yet it's somehow it just didn't seem crowded or packed even though it definitely looked crowded and packed. The location is unbeatable right on the river incredible views the glass architecture obviously plays into all of that, and it is a site to be hold for sure The only downside to this place is the seating. There are wooden cubes in a section near a big screen TV, which look very uncomfortable. Then I found a leather cushioned bench with a backing for support to which I decided to sit down. And as soon as I sat down, I had two Apple employees approach me and asked me if I had an appointment for a demo. I was honest, and I said I have no appointment for a demo. Then they told me I was not allowed to sit on the leather cushioned bench and would have to go find a seat on the uncomfortable wooden cubes. I then inform them that there is no sign no direction, and no indication that I was not allowed to sit on the leather cushion bench. To which then a third employee told me that they have been asking for a sign for a long time and Apple is not giving them a sign. So in the meantime, the Apple employees are now tasked with policing , a bench for demo only. read more

The store itself is nice but the sales staff could use some lessons in customer service. I stopped by to check out the new iPhones and to look at the new Apple Watch Ultra and a couple accessories. I wasn't wearing a suit, but casual shoes, khakis, a casual shirt and transitional jacket. Not exactly screaming unable to buy anything. They seemed to think I was going to steal something and kept insisting the Techwoven cases wouldn't work with my existing phone. I explained I was looking to get a new phone but wanted to see how the case would work with my newly purchased and obviously used Apple Wallet. They suggested I not worry about matching colors and buy things online. I've bought a new MacBook, AirPods, Apple Watch and Apple Wallet in the past few months. They are a special group of people that know how to provide amazing service no matter the crowd. If you come here, know that it isn't just an Apple store, but you can sit on the steps and take a moment to take in the Chicago River. Also, you can stand by the rail and get a closer look at the water. After you get your Apple Airpods Max, you can curate a playlist that gives a soundtrack to your new adventures ahead. Believe the reviews when they say that the employees here are irrationally rude. And I'm saying that as a Chicagoan who has worked a lot of retail and feel like we should cut most workers some slack. I had friends visiting from out of town and we passed by this place to shop. It took so long to get help that we needed to use the restroom. First of all, I think it's totally fine if a retail store has no restroom. Just tell me you don't have one. But we asked about a restroom and an employee pointed to a corner without saying anything else so we headed into the hallway in that corner. Another employee told us pretty briskly that we had to stay in a certain area of that hallway and that we had to line up against a particular wall to wait. That was fine, we didn't want to get in their way so we followed instructions. But literally 30 seconds later another employee came and started barking orders at us. Not even a "Please move", it was "NO THIS IS WAY TOO MANY PEOPLE! YOU CANNOT BE HERE! EVERYONE NEEDS TO STaND OUTSIDE! NOW!" There were only 4 of us so I'm not sure what he meant but he kept loudly saying "THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY OF YOU!!" MOVE RIGHT NOW!" But we didn't argue even though it was conflicting with the instructions of the other employee and we went outside to wait. While I was in the bathroom I could still hear him yelling outside. When I left I saw that there were 3 small children also looking from the restroom who looked terrified. Even afterwards this employee was still staring daggers at me like he thought I was trying I steal something by going to the bathroom. Look, I get it that you are busy. There might have been a misunderstanding amongst employees about their bathroom situation. You can care about safety and security and explain that politely to us. But you chose to lash out bizarrely. It is NEVeR OKAY to speak to or treat other humans this way. First most.... I'm an Android person... I just want to make that clear. My review is based on the experience that I had received when I picked up my new iPod. All of my music, I had purchased through iTunes and my old iPod had finally died. I went on line through an airline website so I can earn my airline points... anyway to earn those points.... I was able to order the iPod through the Apple website which is very user friendly. I was able to pick the one I wanted, pay for it. Then pick what time I wanted to pick it up at the store on Michigan Avenue. Within 15 minutes, I had received a text stating my order was ready to be picked up at the designated time. When I had arrived at the store, the greeter checked my temperature then instructed me to take the exterior stairs to the pick up area. I wanted to purchase a new MacBook Air to replace my 9 year old laptop. I tried to book a shopping appointment so that the new models could be explained to me and I could get help setting it up and transferring data. They no longer do shopping appointments for MacBook, but I did get through to someone on the phone who was very helpful. I was told if I purchased the MacBook online or over the phone, I could book a pick up appointment and get the help I needed then. So I did that. In fact I purchased a model with more storage than I needed because it was in stock at the store, and the one with lesser storage was not. I was told on the phone that I had a 6:30pm appointment the next day to get my MacBook Air. The next day I drove 130 miles for the in-person appointment. The email link to my order said to arrive between 6:30 and 6:45 for the best service. When I arrived at 6:30pm (after driving 2.5 hours) I was told that I didn't have an appointment and to wait until an email came through saying my computer was ready. At 6:45pm, the order link in my email said my MacBook would be ready shortly. At 7:30pm I was still waiting, nobody in the store could help me. The store was closing at 8pm, so I started a chat on the Apple Store app. Nobody could even tell me if the product I purchased was in the store. The store manager couldn't tell me and he couldn't cancel my order. I had to cancel my order online, and the $1600 hold on my credit card won't be released for days. Why doesn't the Apple Store offer actual customer service? Why did they tell me I had an appointment when I didn't? Why did they charge me for a product they didn't have in stock? Why could nobody tell me the real status of my order? I don't know if this problem is unique to Apple Michigan Avenue or if its systemic with Apple. AVOID an offensive employee named Brandon here. When my wife and I arrived today, the store was busy, so we went over to the display table to try on bands ourselves. After selecting the Apple Watch Ultra and two bands we liked, we approached an available employee to finalize our purchase. Instead of helping us with compatible band options, the employee briefly mentioned that the bands we chose wouldn't match without any further explanation, then ignored us. Left to figure things out ourselves, we used a store iPad to review compatible bands and continued trying options on our own. During this time, this employee repeatedly interrupted, asking us to return bands even while we were still comparing them, and limited us to trying just two bands, despite other customers nearby trying more without issue. When we expressed our discomfort with his actions, he continued to restrict our choices and even took bands away from us, despite knowing this made us uncomfortable. This was in sharp contrast to the courteous assistance given to other customers around us. Another employee eventually noticed our situation and kindly stepped in to confirm our selections, showing professionalism and helping us try different sizes for the best fit. However, while she was away checking availability, the initial employee approached us again, demanding that we return the bands, stating that bands had been stolen before, and that if we didn't intend to buy them, we shouldn't keep them in front of us. This was offensive and uncalled for; we were there as genuine customers but were treated as potential thieves. After completing our purchase, we asked for the employee's name to provide feedback, but he refused and referred us to the manager. However, the manager said that trying up to four bands is acceptable, which we hadn't exceeded, yet we were still treated this way. And I just went there today after work, I think even 2.5 stars average is a bit high for them. First, I didn't see security guards walking around or by the door like before when I walked in. Maybe Apple is running this location on budget? Unfortunately, that change got a few sketchy people sitting and walking around in the store which made me quite uncomfortable. Two of them even verbally harassed me with racist slurs. Some store clerks saw that and did nothing. SERIOUSLY?! Second, I picked two items which worth $200+ and simply just wanted to pay and leave at that point. Clearly people usually spend thousands of dollars here so my teeny tiny purchase didn't seem to be important at all. One of the staff members came over with a super cold attitude conveying a message that I should really just pay and leave. When the keyboard I bought didn't fit the bag, he seemed not even want to try to find a bigger one but walked away, with the keyboard sticking out of the bag sadly like some toy baseball bat. Been to this location many times over the years. Always very nice to walk into. Certainly always busy but I love that atmosphere. I actually walked in this paricatular one a hand full of times in one weekend because we were browsing and then decide to buy a Apple TV for the hotel we were staying in and the pick up was very fast! About 10 mins after placing the order online it was ready to pick and a 8 min walk later plus maybe 5 mins to wait at the store I had my Apple TV in hand. Each time I came in the store I was greeted by friendly smiles and was always asked if there was anything I need assistance with. I have been treated disrespectfully at this location on 3 or 4 occasions. The last one i went to check with problems related to the iPhone SE. At the same time i got a message that someone is using my information to purchase at Apple. I wanted to ask the person who was checking me in if it was legitimate and how to report it as junk and block it at the same time. He wouldn't look at it and with disdain, he said let's just get you checked in. When I was going to show him one of the problems I was having, which is the blue photos on my phone that weren't blue when taken. He yelled, "don't take my picture." I wasn't going to take his picture. I would't want it. It was a put down, like I'm senile and randomly take unnecessary pictures. After a 20-minute wait, I sat down with a person to hopefully solve the problems. With a smile on her face she said more or less, you have to accept the blue photos that shouldn't be blue. I was visibly upset with that answer. She called the manager. and told the manager, "see if you can understand what she's talking about," as if I didn't speak English of know how to express myself. At that I got very upset. A security guard escorted me out. I had two other problems, but didn't get to that. I believe, and I've expressed it that I get disrespectful attitudes because I'm a senior. My iPhone 13 Pro Max is dimming the display during use (seemed heat related, Google confirms others with this issue). I was fortunately able to replicate the issue visually IN FRONT of a "Genius". Great! They agreed with what they saw, then took the phone for "diagnostics". To nobody's surprise, the "diagnostics" found nothing, creating a reality tug of war. The "Genius" customer service robot kept repeating "diagnostics doesn't show anything as you can see here, look, green check marks!" and I, with increasing desperation repeated the issue, the steps I had taken to troubleshoot, and why I wasn't satisfied with their resolution of "well nothing is wrong because the box is green, see that means it's OK" When I asked what it would take to resolve my issue, I was told it needed to happen AGAIN in front of them so they could witness it again? I verbally confirmed the insanity: my issue needs to occur basically on command once every 15 minutes so its "severe" enough to repair, got it. I asked how I could log instances of my phone dimming the screen because of heat and a "Genius" suggested I could screen record... Spoiler... that's not how it works... l think Apple's technical training consists of saying technical terms, showing the customer random settings, wiping their iPhone, and filling the gaps with general incompetence until 2 hours pass and us working class needs to get back to it! Kudos, cause I fell for it... good thing I have alternatives (ha, yeah right). May just keep returning to see how long it takes to resolve this issue, any bets? My money's on 12-14 hours. read more
