First of all, why do customers make "Genius" Bar appointments, only to have to wait an unknown amount of time for their actual appointment? Second, why does this place drip with corporatism? I've never once felt like more than a measly customer upon leaving this place. As opposed to my experience at different Apple stores, particularly one in Northbrook, Illinois and another in Boston. My third grip is with Apple itself. But because this store location seems to represent them glowingly. I'll leave this here. How dare you cell $500 headphones that continue to have known battery issues?!? After buying my headphones at the end of 2023 I had to take them to this store, where they were sent out and the battery was replaced at a third-party repair center. Now, not even a year after that, the battery issue has returned and is worse. I'm told that I'll have to pay $80 for a new battery, if that's the issue and if it's something greater than that, I'll be quoted an updated repair fee. With all due respect and empathy for how hard the manager's job must be, she definitely over-promised and under-delivered regarding the time it would take for someone to see me. . . and she showed little to no empathy and offered crumbs for solutions to my issues. Independent of her tho, the technician talked to his team and created a work-around that was rad and generous -- made me feel like my precious time and experience was seen and honored. That's the Apple I know and love. The manager could have executed (or at least thought to begin work on this solution) 40 minutes prior. But it was all, eh... maybe... probably not vibes from her while she occupied herself not with the managerial duty of making each customer feel seen, but with the more general overseeing of all the workings of the store displayed on her ipad. Maybe I just caught her on a bad day, but dude. This is Apple. A company built on supreme skill in, and, more importantly, natural passion in finding a solution for the customer. We had already run tests on these same airpods -- just do the replacement in store and call it a day. No? Well. Thank goodness for the young kid technician who didn't want to leave me with broken airpods and a task of sitting on hold with Apple after dropping money for apple care every month and being told that this genius-bar pair could be within 90 days if something went wrong. I like this store overall, and TBH I'm surprised they don't have a better star rating on here! On my most recent visit, I stopped in for a repair service. The associate who helped me was nice, quick, and helpful. The manager didn't seem particularly eager to make it a better experience, but it is what it is. I've also found wait times are relatively slow if you have an appointment, so make a genius bar appointment before coming if you're here for a repair or issue! Also, the easiest way to get to the store (since it's "in" the outdoor mall) -- I recommend parking in the garage near Nordstrom! Then you just go through Nordstrom and Apple is just a couple shops down. read more

I came to replace my fourth MacBook with the new MB pro with the M4 chip. I usually have outstanding service and experience with Apple. So expected the same. The purchase process went okay. I brought my old laptop so that the data and apps could be migrated. The tech guy was out so I had to leave it. they took down my information and unknown to me he had mistyped my phone number. They told me it would be ready the next day. The next day I waited for the notice it was ready but it never came. I called but got directed to the self service which didn't work. So I waited to the following day and finally called and found the way to talk with a real person. They said it had been ready the prior day. When I told them I never was notified. she discovered that they had the wrong number. I picked up the laptop that day and brought it home. When I tried to use the MB, I realized that none of the data had been transferred. SO I called back again and they told me I had to go to the genius bar the next day to have them do the migration. I went in and after waiting a bit the tech guy opened up my prior ticket and told me that they had run into an issue migrating it and couldn't. The note was to notify me about the problem when I picked it up which they had not done. They apologized whatever that was worth. He looked at the old laptop and then told me to use the TimeMachine backup that seemed to have run fine. So I did that finally and got it working. I could have saved myself a trip had the guy told me the issue when I picked up the MB in the first place. The staff use to care about you at Apple Stores. That's all gone from what I experienced. they are more like a big box store. They no longer have that customer service differentiation sadly. read more

Went in without an appointment to get my iPhone 11 Pro battery replaced. Everything was so smooth. A lovely person got me checked in. Chris helped me make sure my phone was backed up, ran some diagnostics, and gave me a few laughs. They said it would take about an hour and it did. My only complaint (which is why I didn't give a five star fairing) about the experience is that as soon as I walked in there was an overwhelmingly strong smell of cologne. It was strong enough to make me gag and I left with a headache. I asked if that was the Apple Store scent and I was told that was an employees cologne. Management should speak to the person showering in cologne. There are many people who, like myself, get headaches (or worse) from strong smells. And there is no reason that the smell of one persons cologne should encompass the entire store. Be considerate of other people. My phones working great. We were trying to make an appointment but you cannot contact the store directly. You cannot make an appointment instore for technical support. No matter how hard you try, you will be assisted by AI and being persistent a representative will help you. AI sent a link and you have to choose options but at the end they will give you literature to read and help yourselves. Finally we were taken by a rep and I said that we need to make an appointment. I told her we have tried everything as per the literature that iphone guides us through and what AI sent ys which is the same stuff. But she said that she would like to try. She was so slow that I could tell she is just reading through the literature. At every step she was making us wait on hold and come back. Finally after 20 min she decided to make an appointment for us. But that was another experience as she took another min to make appointment. When asked what is taking so long, she said that there is process we have to go through. Technically apple has made extremely difficult to make appointments with them. She helped us make an appointment two hours out. Had appointment at 2:40pm. We checked in there at 2:35pm but none of the rep took us until 2:50pm He erased our apple watch and put our watch on charging and said he will be back. After erasing things were easy and I just followed the steps as they were guided by literature and we did it ourselves. Guy never came back as he was attending someone else and we just left the place. The place is very busy and they do no have enough employees to help people. I just walked out of the Apple Store at Old Orchard in Skokie, Illinois after experiencing the worst customer service I've ever encountered at an Apple location. I had a scheduled appointment and waited over 20 minutes past my appointment time. No one checked in with me or acknowledged the delay. I asked several employees for a manager--no one came. I then asked specifically for the store manager, and again, no one showed up. I asked for the store manager's name and was told they couldn't provide it. Only after stating that they are legally required to share the name of the store manager, did anyone acknowledge my request--and still, I never got an answer. The staff was unhelpful, dismissive, and completely lacking in professionalism. For a company that charges a premium for its products and services, this level of treatment is unacceptable. The store appears to be severely mismanaged, and I believe it warrants an internal investigation and a complete overhaul of its customer service standards. Apple customers deserve better. read more

The environment at this store is chaotic and disorganized. The manager is rude, nasty, and does not value her customers' business. I purchased a new iPhone there yesterday, and somehow in the chaos one of the employees picked up my screen protector which was a high end blue-light blocking device that cost me more than $50, and threw it in the garbage. They had required me to remove the screen protector, at which time I made it clear that I wanted to keep it to use on my new iPhone, even with the understanding that it was slightly smaller than the new screen. When I discovered it was gone and after they told me what had happened, I asked them to either find and return it, or replace it with another screen protector (obviously not the same high end type which I had purchased from Ocushield, but any used or new screen protector that they had in the store). The manager claimed she went through the garbage, but that the garbage "must have already been taken out." She flatly refused to consider replacing my property that was taken by one of her employees. She even tried to change her story, now saying it could have been taken by another customer. She finally told me to "call customer service". I did that, and they told me to talk to the store. So bouncing the customer back and forth is clearly a tactic used by Apple so they never have to take responsibility for anything. I spoke to customer service again, and they said they can't do anything now, but will call me on Monday and try to help. I've always had good experiences at other Apple stores, and never been treated with this type of disrespect. I will not purchase from this store again, and after 18 years of iPhones, I'm considering returning this new phone and switching to an android. read more

10/18/20 - 5 Stars for a 5 star company. I walked into Old Orchard to go to the Apple Store and it was gone? WTH in its place was an Amazon 4-Star Store. I was shocked Amazon is huge but displacing an Apple Store is treasonous in my eyes. I checked out the new amazon store only to find Apple moved on its on accord and has busy renovating a beautiful new space a few doors to the south. Like only Apple they built a new store bigger and better then the old one. Because of Covid & limitations on the number of people that can go into the store there was a canopy outside w/a line of people waiting to go inside. I really had no reason to go in except curiosity, but the new store is beautifully designed (of course would you expect anything else from Apple). There is an enormous big screen that covers the entire wall behind the Genius Bar along w/the beautiful bleached wood display desks w/Apple products, computers, ipads, iPhones and accessories. I will be back in the near future to check it out. They take the normal Covid safety precautions scanning your temperature, making sure you have on a mask & limiting the number of people into the space. read more

Everything seemed completely fine with the purchase/upgrade of my iphone and watch. That is until I got home and found that although i was assured my phone had updated (I have it set to back up to the cloud, and it was backed up just today), it had not. My primary email account? Nowhere. No mailbox, no mail. So, now my old phone has been erased, and I'm stuck having to figure out how to get my email connected to this new phone. SUPER ANNOYING. What's almost more annoying is I can't call the store to speak with the guy who (allegedly) transferred everything from my old phone to this new one. The glue on my Apple Watch failed. This was their defect! The associate at the Genius Bar said that the only thing that he could do have it shipped to be repaired but the cost for the repair was almost as much as the cost of a new watch. I immediately called Apple online support who told me that they would go through some troubleshooting With me. We did so. I thought that was annoying, however I was able to navigate online and it was pretty simple. Just wish I was able to physically see it first before buying. Parking: This location is part of Old Orchard mall and therefore has a parking lot included. Note, spots may vary depending when you go, especially on weekends. Worth: I mean it's apple. The online service was easy and user friendly. I was literally inside the store in less than five minutes. It was in and out. And of course, since it's apple, it is going to be expensive. Came into replace a defective battery right when the store opened on Wednesday, July 7, 2024. Not busy at all, may be 10 customers. Last time I visited, they created work order and told me to come in anytime, and don't need to make an appointment. Few minutes after checking in, the rep went to check with the Manager lady named Julianna upon which I was told that the repair would take several hours. I tried explaining that I was here last time. However, every time, I tried to talk, she would interrupt. I was tired after the third time and told her not to interrupt and let me speak. Rather than apologizing, she was rude, and said, "Go ahead." At this point, I was not interested in speaking with her and asked for another manager and she said she was the MANAGER. I realized I had already traveled 30 minutes to get to the store and had no other option then to repair it. I thought that would be the end of it. When I came to pick up the phone at 12:40ish pm, the battery was at 30%. I asked the rep who brought the phone as to when the job was completed. He said 11:30am. So, from 11:30 to 12:30, the tech did not bother to charge the phone or is the battery defective? Time will tell. Also, under battery menu, there is no date mentioned as to when it was replaced. I understand that new battery won't be at 100% right of the box due to safety in transporting. Lastly, I asked for a number to file complaints, but they gave me a 1 800 MY APPLE number which when called twice went to tech support and they had no idea what to do. Probably my last iphone. After this, need to start looking for alternative or the store needs to improve their service. read more

I bought an iPad Air about a week ago. While I was in the middle of a FaceTime call the screen went black. Charging it for hours and force start could not revive my Ipad. I came to the store right when they opened with the intention of returning it and getting a new one. The guy who checked me in said I needed to have a technician do a diagnostic and that they would not be in for an hour. I found another employee who said that actually I could return the iPad no questions asked because it was within their 14 day return window. I didn't have the charger or box because I was visiting from out of town. They were able to keep the charger that came with the new iPad to make up for the difference and I was in and out in under ten min. Overall solid customer service. I've never had an apple product die on me in the first week but I'm happy it was not too much of a headache to replace. read more

It's fun to visit Apple stores during normal times, but our pandemic-era visit to this store was an altogether dystopian experience. My technophobic Missus purchased an iPad last summer from the Apple Store at Abt in Glenview. Over time, its screen became progressively less responsive to touch. Since the device was still under warranty, Abt advised her to make an appointment at the "Genius Bar:" https://macreports.com/how-to-make-a-genius-bar-reservation/. Holy hashtag, does this site require fortitude to navigate! Landing on the appointments page was tantamount to winning a lottery prize. Due to Covid restrictions, we couldn't just enter the store. A security guard directed us to stand in a long line of customers who also had Genius Bar appointments. Ours was for 5:30, but 5:30 came and went and we stood outdoors in chilly weather until 6 PM before we were allowed inside. At one point, we observed a panicky woman who, locked out of her iPhone, got turned away because--heavens!--she had no appointment. The rearranged store with its 'teller windows' was about as inviting as a currency exchange in a bad neighborhood. Guards were instructing customers who merely wanted to shop or browse to visit a Best Buy instead. A "genius" connected our iPad to his laptop and, using a diagnostic app, he confirmed that our device was defective (FYI, the "Genius Bar" serves no beverages, not even SmartWater). He ordered a replacement iPad which was to be ready for pickup in 3-4 days, and thankfully no appointment would be necessary. Replacement iPads are not 'factory new,' nor are they exactly 'used,' 'refurbished' or 'reconditioned.' An Apple person described warranty replacement devices as "like new," assembled from a stockpile of spare parts. Well, whatever. Warranty coverage on replacements is either 90 days or the remainder of the 1-year warranty on our original purchase, whichever time period is longer. Unfortunately the warranty does not cover the cost of a new screen protector for the replacement. Luckily we didn't have to wait long in line to exchange the old iPad for the replacement. A specialist verified that the old tablet was backed up to the iCloud before walking us through the steps of wiping it. Though I'm a Windows guy, I had no difficulty with setting up the new iPad. But this "like new" tablet was loaded with an earlier Apple OS which took a looong time to update. read more

We bought a new i-Phone 13 from here today.  Laurice helped us and did everything needed for us, and we were very thankful for her friendly and capable service.  I was subsequently a bit surprised to see all the poor Yelp reviews here, but I guess it possibly just depends what you're here for and one's expectations.  We've never visited a physical store to buy a smart-phone before and have always simply ordered them online and had shipped.  Today, wife just wanted to see the phone options, and we had some questions about the best way to transfer data from her now outdated, clunky, and 6 year old i-Phone 7 Plus.  Once you're out of storage, and it was only 32 GB, and you can't even download the past several IOS updates, numerous features didn't work anymore, so getting some real time advice for transferring data from the clunker was another reason for the store visit.  With 256 GB on the new i-Phone, we'll never run out of storage again (yeah right he says).   Anyway, Laurice did the activation, aptly transferred the contacts, photos, and data we were interested in, and set us on our happy way.   It was also impressive for this relative old-schooler to see the latest high tech and mostly touchless sales and ordering process, and within a few minutes of ordering the phone (we had already checked the store's inventory btw before making the trek over), a young lady comes walking out of the backroom with a new i-Phone for us.  Thank you, and go AAPL! read more
