Ho ho holy cow -- this Apple Store saved Santa's night. I flew into San Antonio on very short notice to work as Santa at North Star Mall. Found out Thursday night at 8 p.m., was on a plane by 6 a.m. Friday. When Santa rushes, Santa forgets things. By Friday night, after a 10 1/2-hour day in the big red suit, I realized I was missing a USB-C to USB-C cable -- something I needed to transfer photos and video from my Camp Snap cameras to my iPad for editing. My set closed at 9 p.m. The mall closed at 9 p.m. And this tired Santa was in street clothes, in an unfamiliar city, just wanting to go back to his hotel. I was about to head for Walmart when I spotted a security guard outside the closed Apple Store. I asked if there was any chance I could buy a cable. He wasn't sure... but an Apple associate overheard us. Now listen -- this store was closed. This associate did not have to help me. But after I explained I was the mall Santa and running on fumes, he stepped in anyway and took care of me. That small act of kindness meant the world in that moment. When you're far from home and exhausted, being treated like a human instead of a transaction matters. I came here for the first time on Monday for a Genius Bar appointment at 12 noon. My MacBook is already 13 years old, which is why a lot of the the updates I downloaded for Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Chrome were not compatible with my old OS operating system. Initially, I connected with Apple's online services to see if they help me troubleshoot this before I had to resort to making a Genius Bar appointment. However, after an online Apple associate named Sonia could not troubleshoot my issue just through online services, she was really helpful and helped me to schedule a Genius Bar appointment at the closest Apple Store near me, which happened to be at the Northstar Mall. I was a few minutes late past my 12 noon appointment, but checked in with an associate named Ethan for my Genius Bar appointment to troubleshoot my OS operating system. He told me that an associate would be able to assist me after assisting the previous customers who also had appointments prior to me. I told him this would be fine. However, after about an hour, i still had not been assisted, and had to use the restroom. I checked in with Ethan again to let him know and to ask if I could keep my place in line. He was really courteous and understanding, and said he would inform Vincent (who was still busy helping another customer to fix her laptop) that I just needed to step out to use the restroom, but would be back shortly. Ethan assured me that I wouldn't lose my place in line. I darted out to the food court area, just so I could quickly use the restroom, and then come right back to the Apple Store. Vincent finished up with the previous customer. Then assisted me as soon as he could. He troubleshooted my MacBook very quickly and determined that my OS operating system was indeed many operating systems behind that a lot of the browser updates would not work. But instead of recommending me to buy a new MacBook right away, he decided to try using his Ethernet cable to update my operating system from a 10.13 to a 10.15 to see if this might help me to successfully download browser updates and use them to access key websites I frequently used. I was really happy when his tactic worked and he helped me tremendously to update my OS system to 10.15 :D ! He did explain to me, though, that although I could still use my 2012 MacBook Pro in 2025, I would still eventually run into issues with software and websites because the OS on my 2012 Macbook Pro can not be upgraded past macOS 10.15. So I will still have to eventually buy a new MacBook in the near future. I really appreciated his extraordinary and phenomenal help :D ! Despite being swamped with back-to-back customers on a very busy Monday! I give 5 stars for Vincent and Ethan for their extraordinary assistance and phenomenal customer service :D ! I really felt like they went out of their way, and the extra mile, to take care of my customer needs as best they could :) ! I just took off a star because the long wait (even with an appointment) was more like a 4-star experience. By the time Vincent was able to assist me, it was close to a 2-hour wait time. It's not Vincent's fault because Apple Genius Bar (and the Apple Store itself) is generally always busy. But it was just such a long wait time! He explained that this particular Apple Store location gets really backed up with appointments because it is the most central location for a lot of people in San Antonio. It is also very close to the San Antonio Airport, which explains the constant foot traffic from both locals and also travelers. He mentioned that the Apple Store in La Cantera shopping mall generally has shorter wait times because it is further out. I was grateful for this information because it was very nice of him to inform me. The quality of customer service is still fantastic at this Apple Store location inside the North Star Mall, once you are actually assisted :) ! Let me start by saying that I came here around 7:15pm on a Saturday, on the verge of a mental breakdown and Juan saved me!!! We were visiting San Antonio on a vaca and my phone got smashed. (We'll exclude the HOW from this review.) Anyways, Juan was WONDERFUL and PATIENT and SO UTTERLY HELPFUL. It took damn near 2 hours to get my new phone up and running but by God, he did it. I'm not going to exclude the other workers there. I think I explained my unusual circumstances to a number of workers and they were all so nice to me after and especially stressful and just utterly awful day. As for value, I mean, I wasn't planning on spending $1000 on a new phone that day but I'm hoping that I won't need another new one for a long time. And ps, I love my new phone already. My husband and I had an outstanding experience at the Apple Store at North Star Mall on December 2, thanks to Enrique. As senior citizens, technology can be overwhelming, but Enrique was incredibly patient, kind, and respectful. He clearly explained everything, answered all our questions, and resolved several critical account issues that had been limiting our ability to use our phones. What could have been stressful became completely manageable because of his expertise and calm approach. This was truly one of the best customer service experiences we've ever had. I visited the Apple Store at North Star Mall on November 20 because I was locked out of my account. The front desk employee gave me attitude when I asked for help. I demanded to speak with someone above her, and that person helped me immediately -- he wasn't able to resolve my issue, but at least he tried and treated me respectfully. Later, I spoke with another employee named Riley when I asked to file a complaint about the rude front desk interaction. Riley refused to help me and gave me the runaround. Apple's recovery process is already frustrating, and the dismissive behavior of some staff made it worse. Customers deserve respect and accountability, not deflection. This experience has left me strongly reconsidering my loyalty to Apple. If customer service continues to feel hostile and unhelpful, I will have to question whether staying with Apple is worth the frustration. read more

I stopped by the Apple Store at North Star mall a couple of weeks ago with intentions of upgrading my phone. I was attended to and signed in promptly at the front of the store. I was told that someone would be with me shortly, and that is what happened. I was assisted by Trent, who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products and how each would fit my needs. Trent was able to quickly and proactively answer all of my questions which provided enough value that ....I ended up only purchasing a new charger. However, I will be returning in the near future for an upgrade. Although I didn't purchase what I intended, I saved money by listening and analyzing what Trent was saying. The service was awesome, the price of the new charger was expensive, as expected, and it's always fun to play around with all of the gadgets. I'll be back soon! read more

I made an appointment and when I arrived, I stood waiting for someone's attention for about five minutes. When the staff finally spoke with me and I explained why I was there he announced. I was too late for my appointment and that was exactly 9 minutes after my time. (Had they helped me when I arrived, I would've been in time.) I was told to take a seat and there I waited for about 40 minutes. I'd be more understanding about that, but this was a Monday afternoon and there were many staff usually in clusters talking with one another. It looked to me like they spent more time chatting with one another than handling customers. I was finally helped and a process that usually only takes less than a minute took another 10 or 15. It showed just what I expected. The problem with my AirPod pros was not discernible. (I had tried telling call in staff that the main problem was occurring with multiple AirPods so I thought it wasn't the individual pair. On-call staff said that I had to bring them in and having done that and found nothing wrong they offered to ship them away for a week. I would then have to return in person again rather than having them shipped back to me. I told the "genius" that I was having the same problem with other AirPod pros and that I thought it could be something other than those particular pair and she didn't explore that at all. She did say I could take them home and call back in again and request a swap because I have AppleCare plus. Which of course wouldn't fit most of the issues I'm having which occur with all of them. They just aren't listening. This is really elementary problem solving and they aren't paying attention. I've got to find some other product to buy. This pair is only two months old and I purchased years of coverage. Finally, the news reports that cars are being stolen from the parking lot at Northstar Mall. At this busy time of year, I don't need to be making two trips when you could just ship them back to me instead. All around unsatisfactory. read more

So a month ago my husband and I came here because he was having issues with a new iPhone he bought in T-Mobile so they told us just go to apple. The associate was nice but we explained we only had the phone for 3 weeks and it kept turning on and off and rebooting. She was telling us something completely different so we asked to speak with someone else. We spoke with a guy name Derek and this is why I am giving 5 stars. He was so understanding why we were frustrated. He listen to our concerns we've only had the phone for a few weeks. He solved the issue and even apologized because the associate had told us misinformation. He helped us every step and I waited for a month before I wrote this review to confirm that we had no other issues with the phone. So shoutout to Derek he was amazing!! With the sheer amount of people on any given day at the Apple Store, it can be confusing where to go. Today's visit was no better. As I walked in to find just a mere replacement band for my Apple Watch, I was greeted by one person who directed me where I needed to go. That was in for interactions. I stood next to the watch band selection awaiting my turn for near 20 minutes. I asked someone working there and was informed that they will be right with me. This never happened. The one that told me that disappeared to break or lunch and I never saw that person again. I eventually found my way to the watch bands, but never ended up buying anything because I wanted one that they did not have on display. You'd expect with the prices Apple charges that they could staff more workers to help during peak periods. Three stars because at least the store was clean, and even though I was not helped, the worker was courteous. read more

I'm from Orlando and just don't remember it being so hard to get someone to assist in helping me buy what I'm looking for. Do Apple stores not have greeters at the front of the store to direct us to where assistance can be found. Asked one team member about watches and she said they would have someone come over to the watch area. Ten minutes later still no one. I ask how much longer and someone tells me to go to the seating area and your person will be right you. 10 mins after that I check with someone else and they say your appointment was started, but they can't find the person who says they started it! All that for them tell me they couldn't help me. The person who all my info and serial numbers could've checked right on the spot and gave me my options so I could decide if I want to wait and proceed or leave. Schedule and appointment at the Genius Bar for 4pm, i arrived at 3:45pm, they told me to have a seat the table and someone would be over to take care of me. 1 hour later!!!! I finally grabbed a manager and asked why we scheduled appointments if you're going to take walk ins over appointments? He ask for my name and realized I had actually been checked in 1 hour and 10 minutes ago. He personally took care of me and stopping what he was doing and I thanked him for that but i recommend that he take care of the issue at hand and that was why appointments were waiting for 30-60 minutes past their scheduled appointment time and there are clearly "geniuses" walking around not helping anyone. read more

Bad customer service both up fromt and with the techs. Went to fix my son's phone appt at 3:00 Pm. Didn't get helped until 3:30. Told Me they would fix the phone to come back at 5. Came back they said I'm getting a new phone. Took 2 mins to get the new phone could have been done at 3:30. Got the phone and couldn't Connct it. Both apple and t Mobile couldnt help me is 8pm still can't connect this phone. Went back and fwd to both places and nothing. This place sucks. I was there 3 times today to get help. They don't even check you in. Second time I walked in to store and tried to check in they didn't even ask my name Told me to wait by the TV's. 25 Mins later nothing I go back to the front and the guy finally decides to ask for my name. After almost one hour all I get from The tech is you need to go to t mobile. I walked away. I dis not go in with the intent of having a new phone and I should have been made aware rather than waiting and spending 4 houra for A simple thing. Never going back To apple north star. My wife got locked out of her Apple iPad and went to the North Star Mall in San Antonio Texas, to have them unlock it. On the first visit by appointment, they told my wife that she needed a proof of purchase receipt to prove that the iPad actually belonged to her. So, I get receipt from Verizon and my wife takes the iPad back to the Apple Store in the North Star Mall, this is the second trip to the Apple store. She gets there only tell her they needed additional information which was already visible on the product itself. The representative had the information on the device, so they could have just unlocked it, but instead they sent her back to Verizon to retrieve the same information on the device to get another receipt with the additional information in order to unlock the device. That information was not provided to my wife during the first trip to the Apple Store. Now she makes a second trip to Verizon, and the Verizon Rep pulls the same information off the device as the Rep did at the North Star Mall, and the Verizon Rep writes it down. So, my wife makes third trip to the Apple Store at the North Star Mall only to get rejected again, because the Verizon Rep wrote down the information on a piece of paper. My wife makes a third trip to Verizon requesting the same information but printed on receipt, Verizon Rep reaffirms that all she need was the receipt for proof of purchase, and this time Verizon Rep refers her to go to the La Cantera Mall to have it unlocked. So, my wife I go to the La Cantera Mall and they unlock the device with the receipt as the proof of purchase with no issues. Which led me to believe, the Apple Store Rep at the North Star Mall did not want to provide customer service to my wife's request. This is unsatisfactory, and to the Rep (Jamal) who gave my wife the run around to unlock iPad you should get out of the customer service field and find another job. Have a great selection of phones and you can trade in your old phone to get an allowance toward your new phone or iPad or computer it's a great value. I was sent to this Apple store by Apple phone support. I had an issue with a newly purchased iPad Pro via the Apple website. The iPad bricked during a software update and was sent to Apple for repair. The replacement I was sent also got bricked during the software update. Apple phone support booked me an appointment with the Genius Bar here to get an in-person evaluation of the iPad. I just wanted to return the iPad since I had back-to-back issues and I didn't really want to wait for shipping. Apple phone support stated I could go to the Apple store with my Genius appointment and make the return. I show up to my Genius appointment and told them the situation. I stated that I wanted to return the product. They told me that since it was already a replacement item, they can't process the return. Since I was already there, I asked if they can take a look at the item and fix it then, so I could use it for now until I ship it back for return. Turns out they couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement item either. After wasting my time with the "Genius" and his a-hole supervisor(s), I called Apple again to discuss the situation for return. The person was apologetic and authorized a return, despite being a replacement item. She even told me that I could return it IN-STORE. Since I was still at the mall, I went back to explain again and show that it was authorized to return in-store. Still wouldn't take it. read more

We had an appointment at 12:30pm. The technician found us and quickly helped us. One of our son's iPad had a cracked screen and wouldn't work at times. I could have called and had a replacement sent but was trying to just the screen repaired. I learned something new... unfortunately they won't repair the screen and will send the old one out and you get a brand new one. That's a plus for someone who hasn't taken care of their device but for us unfortunate because we have except for the screen getting cracked. I just dread having to re download 600+ apps :/. Anyway, our tech was so sweet and informative. Would definitely recommend going into the store and speak with a trained technician who will fully explain any concern you may have about the apple products. Just be aware, Saturday morning/afternoon = crazy busy store! read more

It's too late to Apple-ogize. It's too late. NorthStar Mall is very busy and very hard to get into - and in that regard is not our favourite place to go. This Apple store inside it gets ridiculously busy and we didn't even bother trying because the line was so long to talk to somebody. Apple stores have a horrible design and even though they were trying to be Innovative they should rethink the whole thing and start it all over again in my opinion. read more

I usually give these stores 2 or 3 stars bc the experience is usually mediocre, but I wanted to complement a gentlemen named Bryce that helped me today. I had an Apple care claim on a few devices and I needed to potentially buy a new iPhone. I threw Bryce a few curve balls, but he was professional, fast and efficient. I think he's a huge asset to Apple. If my company had an office in San Antonio, I would have hired him away. I went to North Star mall location to get a repair on my phone it was malfunctioning, and the service and customer service was very upsetting and very poor ! There was no communication and the 20 workers that are working there weren't doing anything to help us they would just talk to each other ! I asked 5 different workers to please check on my phone and they said it will be out soon every time ! I got to the store at 7pm the phone was ready at 6:05 the MANAGER working that night didn't come to us until the store was closed and empty and told us he didn't have a resolution for us and that they don't have a phone for me and that my phone was no longer at the store they lost it couldn't find it ! And then proceeded to tell me to go to la cantera location tomorrow that there is a phone secured for me there. So that manager and staff was very upsetting and not helpful at all ! And the manager laughed at us and told us to go to la cantera tomorrow So next day I go to la cantera tell them what happened and they had no phone secured for me the manager had non of my information or anything didn't get anything from North Star location which is so upsetting and frustrating! I use my phone for work so Being without a phone for that whole day and a half was very frustrating and stressful. The staff member who helped me at la Cantera got me a phone but still the whole process and experience at apple was so upsetting and your staff workers are very unhelpful and did not even pay attention to my needs they just heard me and let it go out the other ear. And never once did they go to the back to check on my phone !! I do not recommend anyone to go to Apple Store to get help with there phone needs ! Everyone who works there just hangs and talks to each other not paying attention to the customers. And the manager at north star mall location was just talking to the staff laughing standing against the wall not paying attention to my situation. FOR PEOPLE WITH SENSORY ISSUES- ask employees to accommodate you. If you've made an appointment workers will direct you to the back of the store (it's very loud and bright, theres a large screen and people giving presentations). I immediately began to have a panic attack. This caused me to have a terrible experience and talking with employees was excruciatingly hard. At the beginning of my appointment, the employee was very helpful. But when I came to pick up my phone, the worker helping did not take time to ensure everything was properly set up. I then waited an extra half hour to get help setting up my (new) phone. Even with workers standing around, they were not very helpful. read more

I was picking up an iPhone that I had ordered 24 hrs before online. It took me 40 minutes to get my phone. Apple Staff got flustered when I mentioned that I had been waiting 25 minutes, Aaron stated that he was just helping me, he was supporting the floor staff that was understaffed. I let the Apple Staff rep know that I WOULD be leaving a Yelp review and that flustered him even further. Aaron referenced the store manager, Jordan, and that I could speak with her. I did NOT request a manager, just my product. Aaron took it upon himself to get his manager involved. Jordan took over the delivery, yet her store tablet was not charged so she had to get a charged one to finish my in-store pick-up. Chaotic... a bunch of employees just standing around, took me forever just to pick up an order

Phillip was great giving me info while i waited, but that's where it ends... So I get assigned to one of their other female associates. Wasn't seen till about an hour after my appt time, but sure it's busy I can understand that. Then I tell the associate I wanna do the Apple payment plan, but she billed it all at one time. Not what I asked. So she goes to get it refunded, says should only take a few minutes. Sure, so I wait. Now there's $1700 pending on my Apple wallet, and they can't setup the payment plan till that clears. Have you, now I've now been stuck there for a total of 2.5 hours for what should have been in and out (plus initial wait time). Had to cancel 2 appts with my clients because of simple ignorance. Gave one star because the service is poor. There are so many staff in red shirts standing around. Whenever you approach one, they ask if you have an appointment. Both myself and my husband had an appointment. My husband bought a MacBook Air and was there to pick it up. The guys scanned the QR code and could it pulled up the information so he typed in the qr number and pulled up his name. He got some message he went to his manager came back and said it was on the processing side so we have to call a phone# . My husband called and apple said nothing was wrong and the store can give my husband the computer. The staff did not seem interested to help in any way. But since we were visiting , we had to pick it up. Also asked the guy to help me with getting an iPhone 14. I had the appointment not a QR code. The Apple Store used to be an exciting place to visit and simply browse. These days they don't even let you in unless you've got an appointment to shop...which means trying to browse all of the cool new (overpriced) tech gadgets all the while a former Genius Bar employee stands behind you watching...what? My butt? The bald spot I pretend not to even know about? On top of that... once you arrive for your appointment you are left to fend for yourself... Trying to find an Apple employee to log you in and then direct you where you should hang out so another Apple employee can find you in the overcrowded box of a store. There used to be tables with chairs that you could sit up and wait for your appointment time but now, they have gotten rid of the Genius Bar and filled the entire space with wooden crates and small Ottomans that are extremely uncomfortable and way too low to the ground for most adults. You sit there and you are blasted by the worst techno style music that is way too loud and puts you on edge. Finally, 20 minutes after your scheduled appointment time someone from Apple comes up and asks you if you are...Hank! My smile fades and I quietly tell the person no. That is not me. The Apple employee shrugs and walks around the circus of a waiting room looking for Hank. I secretly wonder what would happen if I said yes. Thank you've ever known? Does Hank even exist? Someone at Apple figured out a good way to screw their customers out of even more money. The wide angle camera on my iPhone 13 Pro Max started malfunctioning after 4 months of ownership. I took it in for repair, since I paid (exorbitantly) for Apple Care. Every time I've done this in the past I received a replacement phone there in the shop. But this time they wanted to mail in my phone so it could be inspected (I got an error saying my camera may not be an Apple genuine part, even though I've never had it repaired). For the two week wait, they gave me another iPhone, NOT a 13 Pro Max like I had, some other model. My case wouldn't fit it because they didn't replace my model phone but grabbed whatever was available. I asked to borrow a case. They said they couldn't lend me a case but would be happy to sell me one for $50 or more. Since it was only a loner, i wasn't keen on spending so much money for a case I would only use for a week or two. Of course I dropped the phone within 24 hours, cracking the screen and back. I took the phone back to Apple, and I just wanted to pay for the damage and turn in the loner. They wouldn't take it, or at least they weren't willing to give me a receipt saying I had turned in the phone if I did leave it with them. So now I have no working phone and I'm going to be on the hook for all the repair charges for a phone I never wanted in the first place all because Apple is too cheap to lend me a $50 case to use with their loaner phone, which is a less expensive model than the one I sent in for repair. I've been using Apple computers and products since 1979. Today that era came to an end. Apple has lost touch with its customers. They want to control what software you can load on your device, who can repair your device, when It can be repaired, and how long it takes. If you don't like it, too bad, take it anywhere else and you void the warranty or brick the phone by activating a poison pill within iOS. Jesus, I never would have imagined back in 1997 that 25 years later Bill Gates would be seen as morally superior to Steve Jobs, but that's precisely the case now. Apple is more of a monopoly than Microsoft was in the 90s, more willing to use its market share to destroy competition by simply stealing developers ideas and passing them off as Apple's.
