Apple placed a $1,147 hold on my checking account for an AppleCare replacement. I returned my damaged phone immediately, and FedEx tracking shows it was delivered Wednesday morning. However, the hold has still not been released. When I contacted support, I was told the device was only received "today," which contradicts verified tracking. I was also never informed about the hold upfront or the option to avoid it by sending the phone first. This is unacceptable. I need the hold released immediately or a confirmed release date. If this is not resolved promptly, I will escalate this through my bank and file formal complaints. On a recorded line the customer support person clearly told me that they received the package today which is 2.25 days after delivery confirmation. Is apple now hiring dishonest people? We drove up from Detroit because a friend of mine ordered some hard to find ipads. So here we are. I am impressed to their commitment to social distancing and cdc regulations. Everything is orderly, clean and definitely spotless. The guy helping out my friend is definitely super helpful. Organically delighted to be there. I was met at the front of the store and told they didn't carry screen protectors at all or cases that weren't a color you'd find at a circus. I was told to "look on Amazon." Apple had my review removed because their in-store policies actually contradict government and health agency policies on COVID, potentially placing people in danger. Two-years on now, Apple claims this is a "special circumstance" and their business shouldn't be judged based upon that. But one might ask....if a business is ignoring official health policy, should that not be information the public should know? Does that not play into the business' commitment to customer service? Certainly if employees didn't wash their hands after going to the bathroom or you found hair in your food, that would be acceptable to write here. So to reiterate, the East Lansing Apple store is blatantly ignoring state and federal health COVID policy. Taking meaningless and ineffectual action contradictory to the experts might give the impression that it's "safer", when in reality, the unintended consequences of such action tend to present a more dangerous environment....wearing a disposable mask for weeks on end, for instance, might seem "safe". But disposable masks collect germs and eventually just become a tray of germs in front of your mouth and nose...which is why you need to replace them (or wash if washable) on a regular basis. If you could just wear them forever, don't you think doctors would do that? Sure would be cheaper... When businesses can complain to Yelp that their terrible service is because of COVID, that simply becomes the new benchmark. Thousands of businesses have continued to garnish 5-star reviews over the past 2 years regardless of COVID. COVID is something we all have to deal with, and as such, doesn't specially excuse a privileged few from their responsibilities. As Yelp says, businesses can't pay to have negative reviews removed...but that doesn't mean Yelp won't do it for free for their Silicon Valley friends. read more

We check-in with an appointment and waited less than 5 minutes until a staff member was available. The whole appointment time took less than 20 minutes to have two sets of AirPods checked and replaced. Service was efficient, staff was helpful and friendly. read more

Short story:Apple will make you run circles, waste your time, and straight lie to you about what they're going to do and what they can or can't do. So I'd record them or say you want them to send you an email with proof of what they agreed to in the comments and you should make sure you get them to have it in writing. I know I'm a small person and me saying saying I'm leaving won't effect anything but customer service matters. Shame on you apple. Long story: This is both for Apple store and telephone help. Had an 10:20 appt for my cracked screen and my charging cable had a crack in it from when it doing the update and overheated. I won't say I've NEVER dropped my iPhone because I have but I never had a crack in the screen until now after plugging it in. They denied to help me with my phone because the diagnostic said my phone is fine (I've had diagnostics say my phone is fine but 1/3 of my screen wasn't responding and your techs can see it soooo Apple your diagnostics is wrong) and then agreed something happened to my cable but they've never seen one like this and thought it was weird but agreed to replace it. I point out if my cable isn't right my phone clearly isn't either. No help. Kept my cord just in case. Called Apple like ken (the tech) told me to and the online tech after telling her what happened apologized and asked if I'd go back in today to have my phone swapped out. I said yes thank you! Went back at 2:20 waited and had the supervisor tell me nope I'm going to stick with kens diagnostics and not fix it. I said but the phone tech said you would. Was told by the in store supervisor that she didn't put an S.O. Code so nope not going to do it. Called Apple back and was told the lady who told me this was wrong and I wasn't going to get my phone swapped out. Said there's no such thing as an S.O. Code. They offered me a free extra cable. I didn't come for an extra cable. My phone is broken from heat and so is my cable clearly. The cracks are small and underneath. When my phone is off you can't even see or feel the cracks. The phone supervisor said he would talk to the other girls supervisor but no he can't help me. We went around in circles about how I was told and set up an appointment by THEIR person and since the in store supervisor said no they weren't going to acknowledge it. He asked me how I wanted things to be to make it right and I merely said my phone fixed to which I was told I wouldn't have happen. He said Again I can give you a cable. He said he could only give me a cable or fix the phone which he said the in store supervisor said no to. He has the ability even though earlier in our conversation he said he didn't.... so I said either you're lying to me or the in store is but I think it's you since you claimed there wasn't an ability to help me but there is. He also said I couldn't speak to anyone else since it was escalated to a supervisor but I could write a letter to Apple. I asked him how long it would take for a response and he said 2 weeks. This is RIDICULOUS. Apple wasted around 3 hours of my day telling me to go back and it would get resolved. They didn't. read more

I came into the store because my phone had been acting funny for the last couple days. I was greeted right away and put with a technician after about 10 minutes. He was great and did everything he could to help me but unfortunately the cost of fixing what was wrong with my phone was similar to just upgrading to a new one. So I started the hunt for a new phone, I was placed with someone new who had a hard time speaking or understanding English and the communication just wasn't there. I kept asking to speak or ask a couple questions to a couple other people to ensure everything was going correctly. The supervisor was not very helpful and borderline rude. He kept just saying he didn't know or there was no other way to do it. The other coworkers that work under the supervisor were more helpful and kind and were able to fix the problem without just shrugging it off and walking away. The guy working with me was nice but with the communication issues he told me my new phone would be $100 cheaper than the price I ended up paying and often had to go ask other coworkers for help anyways. We also had to start the process over at least 3 times. I was at the store from 7 until after they close shortly after 9. The process was a bit frustrating but I was able to get a new working phone and I hadn't had issues until this point and do find this store helpful. read more

I called ahead to make sure that they had a product in Stock and was told that they did have it. When I arrived I didn't see it so I asked a genius if they had it. They referred me to their supposed backroom guy who I'm guessing apparated to hogwarts or something because I never saw him again. I managed to dart and tag another genius so I would at least know if they are still around. That genius told me that they didn't have it. She told me she was going to get me a manager so i waited for the manager. Apparently the manager is a creature of Nordic folklore because I never saw them either . I ended up calling the Grand Rapids store and ordering it there. So if you're looking for a place to sit with free WiFi, I'd go to this location. Came in for a prescheduled appointment, was seen approximately 40 minutes after my scheduled time. My computer had to be sent in for repairs. It would have been ready when promised (albeit at the end of the promised 3-5 day period), but instead it sat at the store while nobody checked it in. FedEx tracking puts it at the store at around 10:30 am, not ready for a full 24 hours. You pay a premium for Apple products and service. This location doesn't deliver. I would recommend taking your computer to the Novi location, they seem to have competent staff. read more

I came by 2 weeks after MI lifted the stay at home order. I was impressed by the fact that they had a tent outside and personnel helping you pick up your order. I was going to trade in my iPad for a new one which required me to go inside the store. The staff and security had us 6 feet apart, a temp check and asked relevant COVID-19 screening Qs. It was when the one customer inside the store was done, that I was allowed in. Let me tell you it was eerie to be the only customer in the store but I felt confident Apple had our health in mind. Unfortunately I was not able to buy new item because it was no compatible with my current set up. The only complaint I have was that the associate who was helping me, probably was being trained, did not know much about the Apple Pencil first gen compatibility with the new gen iPad Pro and the updates from the WWDC20. Worst bday gift I've ever received; a declined warranty repair from the Apple's Eastwood Town center manager Ethan. A week ago I was kayaking, had my ext battery pack connected to my iPhone 7Plus blue toothed to my JBL Flip 4 speaker. This was the first time we had been out kayaking so I sprayed out the cob webs/spiders with my garden hose and turned the kayak upside down to remove as much of the water as I could. After 3-4hours of being on the river the music shut off. I had noticed some water had splashed on it. It never submerged into the river to be under pressurized water. Now going back a few months ago, I had dropped and cracked my screen. I took it to the same apple store and paid $150 to have them replace the screen. I believe this repair compromised the phones h20 seal. Their warranty states after a screen repair they are still "Splash Resistant." Ethan told me "he didn't know what happened to my phone so he can't warranty it." He also stated "the screen seal had to have been replaced because they had to cut the seal to open the iPhone so the seal was intact and good." Riddle me this, if the seals good but the phone won't turn on due to water how did water even get into my phone in the first place? FIRST TIME APPLE HAS NOT STOOD BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS AND REPAIR. They swapped my iPhone 6 plus when it bent! No questions asked. I've heard lots of complaints from friends and co-workers about this store not approving warranty claims recently. I asked him how to escalate this. He told me to go to www.apple.com/feedback and there wasen't a phone number to call. WHAT A JOKE. After I sent the feedback this was what I got: "Thank you for your feedback on the iPhone. We cannot respond to you personally, but please know that your message has been received and will be reviewed by the iPhone Team. If we need to follow up with you on your ideas for improving the iPhone, we will contact you directly. We appreciate your assistance in making the iPhone better. iPhone Team Apple" Another dead end. Lastly, I called Verizon. They told me this was wrong and they were going to start a claim with Apple. WISH ME LUCK! Maybe corporate will read this and make the right business decision. Stand behind your repairs and products. Side note: Also, after the screen repair people said they couldn't hear me on speaker phone. It sounded like I was across the room they said. I found out today that the mic for speaker phone is in the screen. WEIRD. Luckily, my speaker and battery charger survived the trip. Out of warranty Replacement cost $369. The service I received here was so impactful and beyond fantastic I tried to solicit the gentleman who helped me to come try to work for my company. Aside from him, I was pleasantly greeted by and checked on by many other Apple team members through my stay. I also really liked how I was able to do the troubleshooting myself with supervision in case my particular problem happened again, since I learn by doing. I strongly encourage making an appointment before you stop in otherwise you may be frustrated. The availability in my case when I booked was three days out, and I when I was there for my appt they were very busy and had several other appts there. Depending on your phone problem, booking an appt can be tricky. It can only be done online, and is a bit time consuming, since it automatically tries to troubleshoot your issue to save you a trip to the store. I wasn't able to open any apps on my phone including the internet so I had to get on a rarely used computer to book. The only downside to an otherwise great experience. read more

Arrived when the doors opened for business but were refused entry because we didn't have an appointment (when I called for store hours there was no indication that an appointment was necessary). There were 2 other customers in the store and no one else waiting to go in. Many associates standing around. The greeter advised us to go to Best Buy to learn about the product we were interested in and then to order online for later pickup at the Apple store. Seriously? I'll give one star for the advice. The Best Buy associate was super helpful and we walked out the door with $1700 in Apple products. Your loss Apple store. We won't be back. read more

I have always owned Apple products, but I had never actually been into an apple store before with a complaint/problem. Usually I take it out on AT&T and they can replace my phone for me but I recently had a mishap with the time on my 5c not displaying correctly and AT&T couldn't do anything about it. So I decide to try out the brand new apple store in the Eastwood Towne center and had the best experience ever! I didn't have an appointment, just walked in and they were able to seat me at a table and get someone to help me right away and I had the absolute nicest employee help me i think his name was Mason. Every employee I came in contact with in that store was knowledgeable, and upbeat. They were able to just get me a new phone, no charge and transfer all my stuff all in under 20 minutes. Absolutely fantastic service and people working at this location! read more

Ok.... would someone be willing to check the shipment to see fi that model was in there? "No", he says, and goes back to pecking away at his iPad. So when might this shipment be opened? "An hour. Maybe." and then walks away, pecking at his iPad again. I come back two and a half hours later. Manager Josh sees me, waltzes right by me, and attends to the person that walked in after me. I've apparently turned invisible. A secondary person asked what I wanted, I started to tell them, but I wasn't able to get out the GB size nor the carrier before the bearded hipster in ironic glasses rudely interrupted and tells me they're not in stock. We pay a premium for Apple products and service. Manager Josh and The Bearded Hipster have made it so that I'm not likely to ever go to that store again. read more

Didn't have an appointment which I normally do when going into an Apple Store but I actually just learned this store was here. My mom needed a battery replacement because of the recall so I finally got her to come in with me. I wish she would have just gone to the Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Detroit one with me to have a better experience. This place is not the greatest. Not the friendliest staff in the world. Normally at an Apple Store you're greeted immediately upon walking through the doors. Not in this case. Four employees standing around on their iPads doing I don't know what...had to finally ask someone for help. Now 50 min later and our phone is finally going in the back for battery replacement and have to wait another hour for it to be fixed. Oh also...the girl helping us actually said out loud she's not an iPhone user. You're working in a store on a product that you don't use? Good marketing. UPDATE- Went back to pick up my mothers iPhone exactly an hour later. Once again had to seek someone out for assistance. He looked at his iPad and said "no it's not ready. Have a seat and it should be another 10-15 minutes." The rest of the conversation is as follows Me-"the gal told us while we were sitting here that it would be an hour when she radioed to the back." Genius-"well I'm not a tech so I don't know how long it takes to do that process." Me-"can you go and check?" Genius-"sure" 2 minutes later he's back with an iPhone in hand... Genius-"it was ready...but they hadn't marked it off in the system." Huh. read more

Horrible service. Even though the store was not busy at the time. We waited 30 minutes and ultimately push to get noticed, then sit at the Genius Bar for 45 more minutes to simply hear they don't repair the older device. They could be a little more attentive on the front end with service, so we don't waste so much time. I should have done more homework, but they could at least be helping other folks more effectively if I was "weeded out" earlier in the "genius" process. So far, I've been very impressed with the store. I've never called for an appointment but I've still gotten in - regardless of the wait. The staff have always been very beat and friendly. Most of my issues have been with the iOS updates. I came in for two reasons on two different days: my ($900 full retail) iPhone 5S had a cracked screen (with no impact or drop so it was a mystery to me) and replacing it was going to cost $149 and a half of hour of work, and I was having strange problems that all my music was not copying to my phone when syncing with iTunes after signing up for and then canceling iTunes Match. After several trouble-shooting attempts (restore, removing and reinstalling music, changing smart playlists, etc.), the problem would not right itself. The first day I came in without an appointment (!), we attempted to fix the issue of syncing and despite over an hour of work, our efforts were fruitless, and then I found out that only guy who performs the screen repairs had gone to lunch, and when he returned, there were three other phones waiting to be repaired, so my phone would take another two hours. I elected to make an appointment for the next day instead. Upon returning the next day, we attempted the same and new fixes for the syncing problems, and when it became apparent the problem did not appear to be fixed, the genius bar guy opted instead to exchange my phone completely for a new/refurbished 5S for my time and troubles. This $149 savings made the irritation, frustration and inconvenience all worth while, and an example of when Apple in the end gets it right! read more

Just finished up an appointment at this Apple Center. From start to finish it was a wonderful experience. Their COVID procedures and protocols are out of this world, separating lines based on appointment type and customer needs, sanitization, and masking up. Every person I encountered was friendly, eager to help, and following said protocols. When I was called back to meet with an associate, Felix, could not have been more knowledgeable, personable, and informative. He answered any and all questions I had during the process of ordering, and insured I understood the breakdown of price and device mechanisms. During my visit with him he was approached by a previous customer who was upset about the fact that the product she had attempted to get earlier was no longer available. Felix handled this with grace and some the best customer service control I've ever seen. He was kind, respectful, and informative about the policies at Apple and this center, and remained as such when the customer got aggressive with him. He handled the situation absolutely perfectly, while still maintaining a high level of customer service with the purchases I was making at the same time. I had two issues at the Apple Store. Neither were resolved, and later that day a phone repair shop was able to help me MUCH more than the Apple Store. I was disappointed in the effort level at the Apple Store. My first issue was a dead phone - it just turned off. With 1600 photos and videos, including a video of us telling our son he is going to be a big brother. My cloud was not turned on properly, or at least it didn't work. The staff member took the phone to the back to "test the battery." He came back about a minute later with a data recovery service recommendation. I accepted that. When I went to a phone repair shop elsewhere in our city (Phone Genius) Sam the technician opened my phone, showed me what parts were what, tried a new battery, did a corrosion treatment, did a number of things and kept trying until all options were exhausted. That level of effort is what I expected at the Apple Store and did not receive. My second issue was iPhoto failing to open. The staff member tried to repair permissions then repair the photos. He didn't want to go any farther without me backing up. He recommended a hard drive for backups, which I bought for $75. Later that day, I was at the Verizon store to get a new phone and chatting about my issues and a staff member asked if I had upgraded to the most recent OS (El Capitan). I had not. She helped me to do that, and once I did it, iPhoto loaded perfectly. Why did the staff member not suggest that before selling me a $75 product? (Also, why didn't I realize that is a good question, so I partly blame myself). The staff member assigned to me was sympathetic and nice, I just don't think he was very competent. I feel bad saying that, as he is a sweet kid. Overall, I was sorely disappointed in my first Apple Store experience. I'm not usually a customer service complainer or a Yelp poster, but I feel so strongly that you should not waste your time here, but rather go to a local phone repair shop. read more
