Honestly, I'm not a big fan of "The Dentist" - who really is? I had a lot of dental work done as a kid (yikes) and therefore got in a bad habit of not going to the dentist as an adult, because I was "over it". After going to 4 different places up here over the last few years, and finally landing on Apple Valley Dental, I can truly say this is the best service I've had in the field. The first cleaning I had was the best I've had in a LONG time, and the progress I've made with cavities being filled has gone smoothly with Dr. Kim and team. Dr. Samuel Kim has been absolutely amazing for our family. Both of my boys have had orthodontic work done here, and every single visit we are greeted so warmly. It truly feels welcoming from the moment you walk in. The hygienists are incredible: kind, patient, and thorough. I always feel comfortable and at ease, which says a lot because I used to despise going to the dentist (I avoided it for probably 15 years... yikes). This office completely changed that for me. The space itself is ultra-modern, beautiful, and spotless, but more importantly, the quality of care is truly top-notch. Dr. Kim is clearly very busy and successful, yet he is so approachable, down-to-earth, and genuinely caring. He takes the time to explain things and makes you feel valued--not rushed. This was by far one of the worst dental experiences I've ever had. My husband paid cash for services, and from start to finish the experience was a nightmare. The front office "receptionist" was extremely rude, unprofessional, and had zero customer service skills , she made the entire visit stressful and uncomfortable. I had a molar removed, and during the procedure the dentist hit and fractured a nerve. I was in severe pain afterward, and when I went back to have it checked, I was barely examined and sent away with no real care or concern. The pain got worse, and it was clear they didn't care about the damage that was done. To make things worse, the doctor originally agreed to set up a payment plan but later went back on his word. I was charged $500 for a root canal, yet the follow-up care was careless, unethical, and completely unprofessional. I would never recommend this place to anyone. If you value your health, your time, and being treated with basic respect , stay far away from this office. My husband and I both have terrible fears of dentists after experiencing such horrible and degrading treatment at other offices and I am pleased to say, this office is the nicest we have ever been to. I came here on Friday and they got me a same day appt to be seen because my wisdom tooth was bothering me. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and with my doctors permission i was allowed to get the dental care i needed. It was super fast to get the care i needed. I was lucky enough to get my wisdom tooth out this saturday and had no issues. I've had a good easy recovery with little to no pain read more

Went for deep cleaning appointment and I was called within minutes and all went well with the oral hygienist.

Dr. Kim and his team are very professional and honest. They explained the entire process to me, their facilities are modern, clean and the environment is clear and very neutral in color. His team is respectful, they are attentive to you and they also respect your time. I only give this 3 stars for these three reasons: *Mary, the dental assistant was very kind, front desk ladies were kind too And *They were able to get me in same day as I needed to have a root canal *my pain is gone The dentist never came around front to greet me at all. I had to strain my head to even ask him a question. I asked him how bad the pain is afterward and what did I need to do afterwards-he said pain is relative..... nothing more. He instantly put a device in to keep my mouth open and tongue back which immediately gave me pain and made me feel like I couldn't breathe. I asked him to take it out. He said he HAD to use it. I was very nervous as I have a lot of face pain-(which I told him about). Instead of trying to make me feel comfortable and assure me, he said I was making him feel uncomfortable and that I should go next door where they sedate people. I just wanted it over, he took 2 breaks for 5-10 min while leaving device in my mouth that really hurt me. Never asking me if I'd like it out to rest my jaw. Just no kindness from him, very quiet. read more

My whole family has actually been a customer at Apple Valley Dental for the past 8 years or so. My teenage girls have been here since they were in elementary. The dental hygienists have always been great and friendly. We had orthodontics work done for two of my children here. I had never had issues with the orthodontist or Dr. Kim. Over the years service had changed a bit and the front desk staff have gotten less friendly. Recently I was told by Dr. Kim that my daughter needed her wisdom teeth pulled. They quoted me a couple thousand dollars for this procedure. I made an appointment but also called my insurance to talk about coverage. They told me the only reason it was so high is because the oral surgeon they used is not in network so I'd have to go to a provider who is in network and only have to pay my deductible to get the work done. Great right? Well, as soon as I cancelled the appointment and told them I was going to an in network oral surgeon, I got a letter from Dr. Kim stating he was no longer going to service my family and I would need to find another dentist. To be honest I was very very confused and still am. There was no other issue, no rude interactions, nothing that stuck out in my mind at all to warrant that. I called twice to speak to him and he refused to speak to me and only had his staff robotically repeat to me that he was advised by his malpractice insurance to send me that letter and cut ties. It was so confusing. Now I'm wondering if they were trying to get me to pay the higher price to get the procedure done? For this to be coming from malpractice, did they do something wrong on their end that they won't tell me? It can't be because I chose an in network doctor as I've had to do that in the past when my son injured his tooth and it wasn't a big deal then. It makes them look very shady now and I had zero issues there before. I would be very hesitant to send anyone their way now and I never would've said that before. Very disappointing and kind of hurtful that Dr. Kim would've speak to me to at least tell me why or what they might have done wrong. He's always seemed so nice, but I guess not so much. I'd be very cautious choosing Apple Valley Dental to take care of your families needs in an open and honest way. read more

My family and I had been patients of this office for a good 3 years+. We've never had any issues until recently. In December 2022, my daughters 17 & 13 y/o had a cleaning appointment. They both have braces and my oldest tells me that they don't clean their teeth but only polish them. I spoke to the front office staff, and they said I can schedule an appointment with a hygienist for their next appointment. In June 2023, my 14 year old had an appointment with the Hygienist. My husband took her to this appointment. He notices she gets called into the back by someone else and not the hygienist. He questions the front staff, and they assure him it's only for x-rays and that the hygienist will see her. She comes out 15 minutes later to find out that again a polish was only done and no cleaning. I called that evening and asked for office manager. I was told they had none. They said Dr. Samuel Kim would be giving me a call back. He did return my call and after hearing me out, he said they don't do thorough cleanings on anyone under 18 y/o. HOW IS THIS EVEN ACCEPTABLE??? A patient must go roughly 16 years with only a teeth polish and no cleaning? Made no sense to me but needless to say DR was offended that I even questioned how he runs that office that he told me to find myself a new Dentist that I trust with our dental needs. He also sent me a letter by mail advising that he was withdrawing from further services as our dentist. PLEASE BE AWARE AND MAKE SURE YOU GO INTO THE BACK WITH YOUR CHILDREN. THEY WILL NOT DO A CLEANING BUT WILL BILL YOUR INSURANCE FOR A CLEANING. read more

I wasn't going to Leave this review but I feel an ethical responsibility to warn others about Dr. Kim in the hope that they won't suffer the way my husband and I have during our time being treated here. On my first visit to Dr. Kim he told me that I was "doomed" to lose all of my teeth. He did not attempt to establish a relationship with me as a patient or get to know my history. He actually hardly spoke to me other than to look at my X-rays and tell me more than once that I was doomed to lose all of my teeth. Yes, doomed is the exact word he used. He then suggested multiple surgical interventions to "postpone the inevitable." I've never felt stressed or afraid of going to the dentist, but he was so insensitive and just down right abusive that I feel anxious every time I have a cleaning on the calendar. I'm a very conscientious person and spend a great deal of time on my dental care. The pandemic shut-downs caused my perio disease to go from controlled to out of control and he made me feel like I was some sort of negligent loser. Nobody should be made to feel that way. Dentists take a Hippocratic oath to "at least do no harm" but this dentist has completely lost touch with his obligation to his patients. One last thing, during one particular visit the person in charge of billing was trying to get me to schedule X-rays when my benefits were all going to be used on a procedure. I was asking her if it was necessary right then or if it could wait. Dr. Kim came out from behind a corner and lectured me for 15 minutes about how insurance billing is outdated and doesn't pay dentists enough etc etc. His manner was defensive and hostile. I have a new dentist now and am so very grateful to be free of this abusive dentist. Yes, I have dental issues, but I also have a right to be treated with sensitivity and compassion. read more

I'm a new patient to Dr.Kim's office, bought I previously brought my mother there and they treated her wonderfully. She had a cleaning and xray's with Gabby and she is fantastic. Gabby was informative about what she observed on my Mom's cleaning and suggestions to maintain dental health. DR. Dr. Kim and his team are my favorite dental team I have been lucky enough to find. I greatly want to thank Desiree for being to kind and easy to work with, Mary is a very sweet woman who always knows how to bring a smile to anyone's face making you feel welcomed, and Grace seems like she never forgets a face as she instantly recognizes me and provides a heartfelt welcome each time I visit. With that said, I always worry about dental visits because of pain or discomfort but I have been going here since I was a kid when they used to be by the Stater Brothers. Dr Kim and the rest of Apple Valley Dental are truly a gem in the dental community, I've never had a bad experience in over 15 or so years. Can't even take the time to confirm if they take my insurance before scheduling an appointment- they ONLY do that the day BEFORE your appointment. I'm sorry- why schedule an appointment, make me wait until the day before taking up my schedule that day to possibly tell me no you don't! Guess they don't need new customers- RUDE- Going elsewhere! In response to Dr.Kim- to better serve your community? The majority of the community you serve has HMO plans, this is not a wealthy area, you are obviously targeting wealthier demographics. Way to "serve your community" And I was obviously struggling to figure out which insurance I even have and your girl was ZERO help, it would have been to much for her to lift a finger to help.... One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a so called "reputable" Dentist. If you come here go ask for a second opinion and ask anyone who works on you to show you their license and their full name and practice. These people help one another they refuse to give me any information on a guy who hurt me. I really didn't know who he was I never saw him there. This was extremely fishy. The guy who showed up was causing pain on me. The staff gave me no information of the individual I have never seen the guy there before. When I requested the information about him they refused to send me his information. The owner didn't even call me to explain or give me the guys information which I requested to them via email. They charged me $100 for this consultation and I'm demanding a full refund for this scam. Always ask questions and get a second opinion. They did a procedure in me which was a crown which now I believe was just a way for them to get more money off my insurance. ALWAYS get a second opinion and ask questions these people only want to draw money they really don't care about you. read more
