At no point did she ever check on us to see how the meal was. Now to the food. My wife had the steak tips with fries and I had the bourbon chicken tips. The chicken was cooked well and had a BBQ sauce it was tossed in. Rice was very bland, but with some salt, pepper and BBQ sauce it was alive again. My wife's tips were cooked very well, but seriously under seasoned. A little salt can go a long way on steak. I was going to sample a smoked whiskey drink they had, but since the bartender was no where to be found, I settled on my soda. It's a good thing we didn't run out of drink, because we would have needed glow wands and flags to get the attention of the bartender. It's too bad because I had high praise for Buck It and the service it what drives my review from a 5-start to a 2-star. Customer service is what makes this a great place, but the younger generation don't understand the first thing about interaction and customer service unless it's through a phone or social media app. It's too bad. This watering hole had everything I was looking for. Retro decor that remained unchanged since my high school days when the Auburn Mall was THE place to hit the arcade and slush puppy stand (what a punk I was). There was a two dog special the night I went and, being the hot dog aficionado that I am, I got me two dogs and a basket of fries. The bar was packed with the locals, friendly, laughing, yes think Cheers, it was that. Bar tender was friendly, greeted me when I walked in. Sit wherever you like, food server came right over with menus and the drinks came out fast. Menu is everything you want when you want dive bar grub -which I did. Daily specials on the board and the menu was just what you'd expect. Burgers, baskets, wings, I used to love their stuffed mushroom caps and that was my meal goal until I heard about the grilled hot dogs. You get into Thatchers from outside or inside the mall. Mall diners in Maine are a dying breed but Thatchers stands tall holding its crown. If you wanna hit the arcade (still there) and experience the heyday of mall eateries head into Thatchers and take in the green pleather seats in a bar that seems like they know your name.

Usually it's pretty decent food here with some options for vegans…read more We usually get the veggie fajitas and/or the spicy avocado bowl (without the sauce) which is normally a very generous bowl with greens, veggies and quinoa but the last time they barely had a tablespoon of quinoa in it so we had to request it and then we were only brought one small serving despite two of us ordering it and both mentioning we didn't get any quinoa (btw, the quinoa is what makes the entire bowl so without it, it is just a salad and not even half as filling or delicious) so it was a bit of a long process to make the dish ready to enjoy. The servers are usually great. Coincidently the last one we had with the quinoa mishap had very little to no personality shining through and did not crack a smile the entire time so that was a little off putting but we still enjoyed our time there with some family. It's extremely difficult to hear anyone when the music is playing as it's honestly not set at a reasonable level and we avoid coming in the evenings as we like to sit in the bar area where it gets hella loud. Overall an ok place to grab a bite.
