I came in with 2 of my friends for half apps apparently it's a really big thing here idk I'm from Mass. Anyways, I wasn't planning on ordering food because I wasn't hungry. The manager came over with my friends food and asked me if I ordered something and I said no. He said I have to order something even if it's a lemonade.. stupidest rule I've ever heard of and he said it in the rudest way. This is seriously one of the worst places I have ever gone too. Me and my boyfriend were celebrating our anniversary so we went to chili's last time but we wanted to switch it up so we went to Applebee's. Let me tell you I will never ever go back. We ordered a burger and chicken fingers. My boyfriend took a bite out of the burger and it was pink. It was not cooked. He ordered the burger well and it was well not cooked. First, let me tell you that I'm a bartender in a Steakhouse and am Retired Navy, so attention to detail is one of my pet peeves.. I was there at about 3:30 or so on a Saturday afternoon. The place was pretty dead. There was about give or take, 9 or so tables, so we were sat very quickly. The first thing I noticed was all the servers. There had to be about 9 or 10. Also a bartender and two or three hosts'. Overkill in my opinion, but it is Saturday. Our server was Chris. He was very polite and came over to introduce himself in a timely manner. I asked him if he had Leinenkugels Summer Shandy on tap and was disappointed when he said no. He then went to his cheat sheet to tell me what they did have and I decided on Heineken. I've rarely seen this on tap other than in Irish bars, so I ordered the tall boy. Pet Peeve #1... Clean glasses.. I HATE dirty glasses and will never serve a drink in one. I am very happy to report that this glass was very clean. You can tell by the foam left on the glass after you've drunk it.. No foam residue, the glass is dirty. Both my tall boys, the glass was clean. My son ordered a Coke and me a water on the side. Both were delivered, quickly, but he forgot the straws. His pocket was full of them, so maybe it was just an oversight. The second glass of Coke, no straw. As one of the 10 or so servers passed me, I said, "Excuse me Miss...." I know I said it loud enough for her to hear me, but I guess she didn't.. Or had a text to reply to at the waitress stand. Next point, the waitress stand. This is not where servers need to be gathered. 3-4 at all times are there. I know that you only get paid $2.18 an hour and probably get meal money deducted like I do and you only work for tips.. As I do. But we don't need to see you guys talking and laughing it up. Go in the back, or in a back room if you have nothing to do. One thing I will say about the servers (females), very easy on the eyes. They must have a prerequisite. And they were all very beautiful. The one blonde girl I saw, she made it a point to work the room. Well done Hun... But like I said, it was dead. Save that for when it's busy or for Hooters. So our food.... We ordered the Appetizer Sampler. It was good, nothing to get excited about, except it was almost $15.00. For our main meal, we both got burgers. My son ordered the Cowboy burger, with fries and I ordered the Bourbon Black and Bleu burger, and asked for Onion Rings instead of fries. Pet Peeve #2.. If something is going to be more if you order it, it is polite to let the customer know (me) that there is an upcharge for a substitute. Even if the menu states that. When I got my bill, the Onion Rings were an extra .99 charge. I was assuming they were going to be, but the average guest isn't aware of this. It takes five seconds to tell them that there is an additional XXX charge for XXX. They are going to order it anyway, but it's just nice to know about the charge instead of getting the bill and seeing it. It also shows the Server knows the menu. We got our food, quickly after we finished our app. It's nice to get your food after you're finished with the app, not during or even after (yes, I have been served an app after my main course was served). Burgers were good, cooked to order and were very beefy. They were yummy and I will certainly order another one when I go back. And I will go back and see how the service is during busy/peak times. So all in all, it was a great experience. Our bill was 54 and I tipped 10.00.. Just a bit over 18%. I think that 4 stars are just a bit high for a rating and would actually give it a 3.5 stars. Had a terrible time here the other night. The service was very slow, took about 15 minutes to even get our order in. The food came out fast but completely forgot my spinach and artichoke dip. Mentioned it to the waiter and he said he'll check on it. He never came back. I even got charged for the spinach dip that I never got which was a big red flag. I stopped by for an early dinner and the lot was empty. Not a good sign. I have not been here in a few months but I saw that they came out with some new burgers. The staff is very friendly from when you walk in to you walk out, food was very good , I sat at bar got my food quick, Zak and Chris were working the bar. They were friendly and polite. Other restaurants should send there staff here to learn how to treat customers. read more

The place was crowded but the wait was short. Unfortunately, that was the best part of our experience. We ordered the dumpling appetizer. The dumplings were overdone. To make matters worse, we had no plates or place settings till this course was almost finished. The main courses were good as were the drinks. Our grandaughter's meal was incomplete and the dish hot enough that she should have been warned. Our waiter was reasonably attentive and exhibited a friendly attitude. Overall, the experience was not great. There are plenty of other places that we would prefer to visit based on this meal. read more

Okay lets just say this review is late, and seeing the reviews other people wrote, I have to say that they were either having a bad day or it was just bad luck on their part. But a couple of my cousins and I went to Mountain Creek to ski but ended up going snow tubing. We were extremely tired and wanted a cheap and easy meal, we could have tried the local spots but we ended up going to Applebees. First thing was someone came out and opened the door for us, I felt that was nice since we were sore from all the fun we had, the guy greeted us and gave us a spot to sit right away. They were concerned that we had 6 people to a booth, but we wanted the booth and said it was no problem. Our server came right away and was extremely nice, not only nice but very patient. We placed our order and also reminded us that since to of my cousins picked from the 2 for 20 we could get another app. Thank god he reminded us or we would have been disappointed. (Yes we are fatties). We got our food in no time, and they noticed my cousins food hadn't come out, it was what a few minutes late and they apologized. Which was unnecessary but it was nice because not all restaurants really do care. My older cousin ordered a apple martini, but ended up ordering the wrong one, however the Manager noticed and came to our table. He asked very nicely if that was the drink he really wanted because the appletinis come in two colors at apple bees ,the green and the red. My cousin wanted the green one and not the red one. So the manager went and got my cousin the right one, and a few moments later he was like, since no one is going to drink this and I don't want it to go to waste because wasting alcohol is a sin, would you want it free of charge. My cousin said yes. I mean it was you had to be there to see how he asked because it was the most funniest and warmest way of asking. It felt like we knew the manager for awhile. All in all, the service was amazing, very quick from other applebees, also the servers there were really nice and friendly, even though some were having a bad day, they never gave any of the customers rude gestures or comments. I went to Applebees on rt 23 maybe about a month or so and have not gone back. The waitress we had was very professional and polite. The food was standard Applebee quality. Nothing great, just average. My main problem was the manager who was working at the time. My wife ordered a margatita and the drink was fairly weak. In the past if she got a drink that was weak, we ask for a shot of liquor to make it better with no hassle. Well when we asked to make it better because it was weak the manager charged us an extra $8 on our bill. I asked why this was and she said because they added more liquor to her drink. When I told them it was weak to begin with she told me that was impossible because all their drinks were pre-measured and all had equal amount of alcohol in it (complete lie because we saw the bar tender making drinks). So the manager took the $8 dollar shot off our bill but then told us she did us a favor and to not expect it again. So to recap, the waitress was good and good was standard. However the management their is terrible and treat you as sub par. If you mention something is wrong they look at you like you have three heads and need to be ignored. Applebee's Prompton Plains NJ. Very bad service in regards having no clue on how to treat customers. The first impression you get when you walk into a place is some 18 year old with a mad look on their face and the more you try to cheer the person up, the more angry he looks. Zombie type personality as if he's just going through the motions just to go through the motions just to get a pay check. Sitting there in a place that is 80% empty they have all the customers sitting in one side of the place, where it takes over 15 minutes for someone finally to come. So the first thing we say is complain on why it took this person 15 minutes to come to the table, and immediately, this person is just as bad as the first one when he purposely ignores the entire statement of what we had said, not even an apology into knowing full well that he had a table and he was taking 15 minutes to even bother to coming to the table. This is nothing new to this place as you can clearly see form their reviews, that this place should be shut down. read more

My burger was under-cooked so I sent it back to the kitchen. I'm pretty sure they just stuck it in the microwave because the whole plate was burning hot when they brought it back to me. Oh, and then I found a piece of a rubber glove in my french fry pile. The manager assured me "this never happens" even though it was happening right in front of his face. They sent me home with a salad as a parting gift, which I didn't even touch. They get 1 star instead of zero only because they apparently do wear gloves in the kitchen. Never again, Applebee's. I don't think i have ever had worse service before.... 5/22/15 around 8 pm, my friends and I have just got off work and decided to go to Applebee's since it is across the highway from where we work (Cedar Crest Village and are waiters ourselves, so we know how this works). We are regulars here since whenever we come here we always have Zach. He is a wonderful guy, funny, and efficient. Plus I know him since he is my friend's brother. But we did not have that service tonight because our server was not Zach, it was Chris. Now Chris seems like a personable guy, he has an approachable face, but I have never had worse service. He took our order on time, and even our drinks came out late and not on time. My friends literally waited 15 minutes for a Raspberry Iced Tea and a Mountain Dew. Then when the manager came around and saw that we were missing drinks, he got it under control. So he came and took our food orders on time. To which everyone ordered and we got a few appetizers. 2 of the 3 came out and we waited for the third. 5 minutes pass, 15 minutes pass, 20 minutes pass, and no check up from Chris. So my friend went without her Ceasar salad, that was an appetizer. Finally he came by when the actual food came out. She tried to tell him, but he ran off. Then we noticed that not everyone had their food. We were missing an American Classic Burger and Chicken Finger Basket. So the Manager comes around again and we tell him that we were missing all these things and he goes to the back. The Next Thing he told my table literally killed me, he said that somebody stole his orders from the kitchen and that he was sorry. Never in my years of experience being a waiter have I ever heard a Bullshit excuse. No one just steals food that is numbered for a table and a specific order, GROW UP AND DEAL WITH YOUR MISTAKES. The food came out and since it was already late, they ate their food fast to which we have a subpar tip. I am a 17 year old girl who lives around the community. As a usual hang out spot my friends and I go to Applebee's for half apps. Tonight it was very busy so naturally we were seated wherever there was room. It was at a high top near the bar. We were having time and enjoying myself and my friend accidentally knocked over his water. He turned around and apologized and started cleaning up the water off the floor and table. The water spilled on a guys jacket and he apologized. Yes, my other friends were laughing, he was embaressed, but he politely started grabbing napkins and cleaning up. A few waiters and waitresses walked by and stared as he cleaned. A manager (i'm assuming) walked by and rolled her eyes then proceeded to help him clean up. She then walked to the table with the people who the water spilled on's jacket and talked badly about us, saying that we were "immature" and "children shouldn't be allowed to sit near the bar". Before walking out the woman who accompanied the man came up and told us "God bless your generation" and that we were "12 year olds who need to learn manners". We all stared in awe because there was absolutely no reason. We offered to clean up and the manager talked badly about us as if it wasn't enough. Waiters stared at us getting confronted by a childish adult. The only person who cared to say anything was our waiter, Dan, who asked if we needed anything and had to apologize for the customers being disrespectful. It ruined our mood and frankly they don't even deserve a star, but Dan was respectful and the only staff that cared to stand up for "our generation". We usually go to the Paramus Applebee's and just happened to be in the Kinnelon area...First impression was the place was dirty...Carpeting was dirty with food under the tables...We sat in a booth and the tables were sticky...the waitress was very friendly and helpful...The manager walked around the place but never said anything.... We counted 4 times that he had passed by our table...Food was the usual Applebee's food...Except the nachos appetizers are now with brisket or pork...no more beef (chili).....We chose brisket... It was slimy beef with a spicy cheese covering it.. When we were getting ready to leave I caught that same manager checking me out...even after I caught him, he continued....GROSS, just like the giant stain he had to on his shirt!!!...And to top of the skeevy (yes I'm using this word) feeling I had there, the ladies bathroom smelled like a men's urinal!!!...I had to make sure I was in the ladies room...I walked out with the sounds of my shoes sticking to the floor....Giving it 2 stars for the nice waitress... read more
