My dad and I have gone to the Covington Applebee's since they opened, though we hadn't been in a few months. The service as always was excellent, even though they were busy and seemed shorthanded, as it was the beginning of the lunch service. I had the classic cheeseburger and fries and my dad had the blt but no lettuce and fries. The burger was a little greasy but other than that seemed fine. I finished my lunch and my dad ate half of his sandwich and only a couple of his fries and took the rest home. That evening I ended up with diarrhea and vomiting until 3 in the morning. Dad didn't eat the rest of his sandwich and fries until the next day, and that night he ended up with diarrhea and vomiting. I love their bar. They gave me way too much jack Daniel's without me even asking :) I also ate some food there to help wash down the immense amounts of alcohol they provided. Warm Caesar Salad with not enough dressing, asked if they had any cold ones and asked for extra dressing. She came back a while later with just the extra dressing. Tortilla soup good flavor, a little too spicy, and the soup was only Warm not hot. Steak fajitas were not special. Rack of ribs were Dry, must have been from the night before. read more

This is a review of their A-1 Burger, it was part of their 2 for 20 deal and I thought I would give it a try. Lack of Bacon was disappointing, but I knew going in that it would be missing unless I paid extra, steak sauce, barely saw it or tasted it. Onion straws? It was a few pieces of grilled onion. The burger and bun were fine, even good, but the experienced billed wasn't what I got, just stick with a more basic burger if you go. read more

Tried this place for the first time. I ordered pasta and got a huge bite of cold sauce! I had to spit it back onto my plate. The chicken on my pasta was extremely dry. The staff did correct my meal and brought me dessert. So, I'm glad that they tried to fix it. read more

Very disappointed... Husband and I went on a Friday night to wind down. They used to have Skinny cocktail options which are good for me since I cannot have very much sugar. We were informed today that Applebee's no longer offers the Skinny drinks. I have become more and more disappointed with their menu and now this. This Applebee's saved us. We had planned to go to The Rock WFP down the street with ~35 people for a club volleyball team party on Friday, May 18th. They had told us over the phone that they did not take reservations but that they could accommodate us if we showed up 30 minutes early - no problem. Long story short, that was not the case when we showed up (full review on The Rock WFP Covington Yelp http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-rock-wood-fired-pizza-covington-2). Luckily, Applebee's down the street could accommodate all 35 of us in the same area at a moments notice. It was a bit awkward because we were not separate from the rest of the restaurant, but the servers did great. The girls (U15 vball club) moved around quite a bit so they often brought food out to a table that no longer had the people who ordered it sitting at it. They were all great sports and I hope they all got tipped well. The food came out quickly considering how busy they were and everyone left happy. We will definitely think of them before the Rock from now on. read more

Beware if you order a pitcher of beer. The pitchers are probably about 52ozs. and they are not allowed to fill them all the way. Jeff asked why the bartender filled mine all the way. She had to explain to him that I had to wait for the keg to be changed so she filled mine all the way. She gave me a glass half full of foam and half beer along with the partial pitcher. When I took pictures of both and then poured my partial into the pitcher to show how much "extra" was given to me the bartender immediately came over and poured some in my glass. I told her I was fine and didn't need her to do that. Her response was that I could not have an empty glass and "full" pitcher in front of me. read more

When we were seated we were told our waitress (a female name don't remember it) would be right with us. 15 minutes later a "female" waitress strolls by and tells us "Trevor" will be right with us. 15 minutes later we decide (after realizing there are ZERO wait staff on the floor) to go into the bar - we're kind of in a hurry. There is an on-duty bartender. Within moments she takes our drink, appetizer and food order. She also justifies the lack of service by saying that shift change is in a mere 15 minutes. She is very sweet. Ohhh...I get it...1/2 hour prior to shift change means they won't get our tip - so why bother helping us. Our drinks (yeah, they are exactly as they should be) are brought out. Half an hour later we receive our appetizers. 5 minutes later our "meals" come out. Umm...what? I haven't even finished my salad yet. Over cooked, cold and blah. When we explain to the bartender (a new one because of shift change) that we'd like to go boxes because it's been 1.5 hours in a very quiet,almost empty restaurant, we're not being served drinks (mines been empty for an hour) and that one meal won't be coming home with us at all - she shrugs her shoulders and brings us a few very small boxes. We've noted that a gentleman at the bar has been talking to an employee for over 1/2 an hour (yes, she was sitting at the bar in uniform with him) while he was served 5 beers. She then went back to work. Another table has been served 3 rounds (spilling one of them all over so I'm not sure if that counts as 3 or 4) but still...hello? Can I get a glass of water at least? Out comes the 21 year old manager. He also has a nonchalant attitude and briefly says "oh, sorry". He comes back a few minutes later and lets us know he's only charging us for drinks. This is very generous given that we've only had one drink a piece, 1/2 of a salad and one chicken wonton. My hero. Boyfriend goes up to the bartender to pay the tab so we can get out of dodge. Bartender tells him she can't cash him out. He'll have to pay someone else. She goes back to flirting with old man at bar and serves him beer #6. At no point were we rude...or loud...or even anything but hesitant. Normally we are really good tippers - this yelp review is the only tip they are getting tonight. We have no idea if this was a race issue - or interracial couple issue (bf is black, I am white) or if this Applebee's is merely indifferent to customer service and quality food. Either way. No more Applebee's for us. The staff seemed to be missing most of the time (we at one point wondered if they were being held hostage in the back) or more interested in talking to each other than actually serving customers. It's a shame. I'm going to miss their chicken wontons. Good thing I found the recipe and can make them at home now. Hello Red Robin for fast food. Here we come! read more

Not sure why I tried again. This was my 2nd and last visit. The service was fine and the waitress friendly. The restaurant was clean but the food is terrible. I ordered fish and chips. The fish was in a heavy batter that was easily discarded and the fries were the worst. limp, greasy and so over salted that I couldn't eat them. When I told the manager about it she said she would talk to the kitchen but didn't offer any compensation for the inedible fries. read more

We dine at the Covington Applebee's 2 to 4 times a month. We always dine in the bar and get wonderful service. The menu is great, with lots of options. We love the friendly neighborhood bar atmosphere. Very friendly staff and comfortable seating. We have also used the Car Side to Go service several times and it is very convenient and the food was hot. read more

Ordered a steak med rare... Came out well done... Sent it back, got a second one that was not rare but RAW!!! If I would have eaten a bite I would have been Sooooo sick later!!! I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years for a few establishments (my dad owns a restaurant/bar) I know how it works!!! I am a Good cook, I know what a steak is supposed to look like, the second one they sent out was ridiculously raw!!!! The manager never came out to talk to me, just made the poor waitress do it (wasn't her fault). She tried to offer me a aTHIRD steak, at this point I was just done... They took it off of my bill thank goodness and I still tipped the waitress 20%, because she did her job just fine!!! I called the manager on the phone because I didn't want to make a scene in the restaurant!! I wanted him to know I was offended by the second meal that was inedible that was sent out to me and I was disappointed that as a manager he didn't come out to my table at that point... He was fully aware of the situation as it was happening!!! He even admitted that to me on the phone that he was aware of he situation ... He wanted to compensate me with coupons, I didn't want them because I don't think I would ever go to an Applebee's again at this point, not the first time I have had subpar food and or sub par service from this establishment... read more

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I guess Applebee's has decided to cut their portions sizes to, lets just say more than, half sized. All the photos on the menu appear the same except in the fine print the calories are smaller. The cup of soup is under 3oz served for $4.00 no roll, and things like tortillas for the French onion are at request for an additional .50 each. I had been a customer of Applebee's for years and have come to expect salads large enough to split easily. Well we ordered the Thai Shrimp chicken salad, missing the 310 calorie fine print and asked to split it. The waitress said nothing. She did not make any suggestion or ask us if it would be enough. The waitress comes to our table caring two plates in two separate hands and places them in front of each of us. I looked down and thought that's a bit stingy for half a salad, not looking at the other plate. I think to my self well I guess they split them already, okay I guess. Then I look up and my table mate is looking at me impatiently, As I see her bowl is completely empty. These were gigantic 16" salad bowls that were 6" deep and there was 4" of salad, only 1/2" deep, there was like 4 leafs of lettuce, that's it. When waitress brings us the check and asked us is everything okay. We start to pay and she seeing the look on our faces without a word goes and get the manager. Apologies and excuses all the way around, manager took the 11.00 4oz salad off the check. The Thai shrimp salad ends up being 3 oz of shrimp and crispy noodles with 1 oz of lettuce for 10.69 plus tax. If this is Weight Watcher's ides portion control your going to starve to death. read more
