My husband and I went to Applebee's to celebrate Veterans Day on Saturday.. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming to all the veterans. We were there early so there was no wait we sat right away. My husband ordered from the special veterans menu and he had the three cheese chicken cavatappi which he enjoyed thoroughly. I couldn't decide between two different items it was either going to be the clubhouse grill sandwich or the chicken fajita Roll-Up... I decided to go with the clubhouse grill great decision! It was absolutely delicious. It was so big I had half Saturday and the other half for lunch the next day. I am hoping that this food is consistent it is definitely something I would order again. I'm just never satisfied when I go to places like this. I guess we were desperate to eat and it was right there. The chicken in my pasta tasted like rubber. (I feel the same about chilis too). Service was fine. It's Applebee's though. I like that you can pay at the table w the iPad they have there. It seems like when I'm done eating I want to be out of there, so I like this feature. The bathroom smelt awful. They really need an air freshener in there. Been coming here on and off for years. But the service has gotten progressively worse over time. The food is pretty good once it arrives at your table. But don't expect to be served right away. On a Friday night, if you arrive at 8pm, you can expect to be seated in half an hour. Then at your table once the server actually shows up to take your order, you can expect to wait another 40 minutes to get entrees. Oh... No free refills on iced tea. And also notice how tables around you may get served before you. Even though they sat down after you. Prices are on high side and there is no loyalty program. Overall, not really worth the hassle. When we arrived at Applebee's it was very packed and there was a 30 min wait time. While waiting I noticed there was a young man who was helping the front desk person with organizing everyones name and working very diligently to clean off tables so the next party could be seated. He had drive, diligence and a strategy in his head on how he could get everyone seated by the time originally promised to each party. I was amazed as I watched him run back and forth (literally) to each table and clean them off. He even came up to us and shared his apologies for the wait and ensured they were working as fast as possible to be seated. Though he was working very hard to create more tables available he never rushed guest and when he seated us he made sure everything was up to par at the table. I have never seen such great customer service at any restaurant. Though my budget allows for much fancier or "nicer" restaurants, there is something about Applebee's and its "homey feel" that draws me back in. Especially after seeing this hard worker last night, I feel compelled to support the Applebee's at Manalapan more often. I also wanted to mention I saw the manager working alongside his staff and smiling while he was helping. That is what I call team work! His leadership style was setting a great example for his employees! It's nice to find good people in the world. Thank you Applebee's for a small win tonight. Boy did I spend a lot of time here in high school. Yikes! It must've been the company and cheap eats. Looking for a place open late on a Saturday night that served food and drinks, my group of 5 ended up at my old stomping ground. Our server was quirky in a bad way. I don't know why he thought it was appropriate to be so sarcastic and make the jokes he did. Not looking to spend a fortune, we ordered off the half price appetizer/ late night happy hour menu. I had the chicken quesidillas that probably should have belonged on a kiddie menu. They were super basic with just cheese and chicken. There was sour cream and salsa/pico on the side. And they were super greasy. I also shared the artichoke dip with a friend. The chips couldn't handle the density of the basic flavored dip. We never received a round of water for the table, but that's okay. Our house margaritas were so watered down that they were close enough to water. I should have let this restaurant stay in the past. I stopped into one of these chain food joints when a few friends decided that we needed some dinner after a long day on the road. If you are a teenager, then ignore this post. Otherwise, this is a hangout for the tweenager/teenager set on Fridays and Saturdays. The food is sometimes very good, sometimes mediocre. The staff is sometimes very attentive, and sometimes gone with the wind. Our most recent visit was one of the worst experiences here. We were met by a late teen/early 20 something smacking her gum. Oh oh! She took us to our table, gave us our menu, then recited either the Gettysburg Address or the soup and drink special. Very monotone with no enthusiasm. For sure, I would not be interested in any of the items if the hostess isn't excited about them. Notice I didn't mention her bringing the cutlery, because she didn't. The server had to once we brought it to her attention after the appetizers had arrived. The server (Danielle) was very good. Food was delivered on time and hot. Usually there is at least one manager hovering around making sure everything was OK. The manager of the shift was sitting on her tush between the reception area and bar, and didn't even bother to say anything to us when we left. Yeo, I love this Applebee's and never experienced anything bad from this place but I experienced RACISM from this server RUBEN. Here's what happened: We were a party of FOUR and RUBEN greeted us very coldly. We gave him our drink orders and also gave him our appetizer order too. In twenty minutes, my father got his drink. Just his drink. Then later, our appetizer came and we had no silverware and no plates at all. Our drinks still haven't arrived. While our food was getting cold, a party of SEVEN came after ten minutes and got their drinks immediately with four servers following RUBEN. This table was all white and my family were alll Hispanic. I don't understand why RUBEN treated us like this. I felt disrespected and I tried to understand because I'm a server myself but he didn't drop our drinks before getting the other table's order. He clearly didn't want to serve us. The manager and hostess were listening to us and understood, but it doesn't erase the fact that my family wasted almost 40 minutes of our time. We left immediately after RUBEN gave us our drinks and silverware and didn't even feel bad for what happened. F*** you RUBEN and I hope you get fired. My husband, two young sons and (a very pregnant) me came here last week for some emergency dinner after an appointment. We were kind of surprised to be sat in a booth (because I am 38 weeks pregnant and enormous) but it looked like the restaurant was pretty full/we were starving so we just dealt with it. The host was kind of awkward and not the friendliest, but I guess I wouldn't be either working as a host at a busy eatery like Applebee's. After unsuccessfully trying to look for a Friendly's coming back home from 6 Flags at 10pm on a Monday night, I just pulled into this place. I ordered Buffalo Wings (pretty good), chips with spinach dip (pretty good), and a chicken something entree dish (alright). I want to update this review. The GM, James, reached out to us, to find out what happened, and he wanted to make it right. I wanted him to realize there was a problem, and he did appreciate the feedback and was glad we told him what happened that night. He apologized, explained about being very short staffed, but said that was no excuse for what happened. He did appreciate us coming back and giving them another try. We went back tonight and the restaurant was crowded, very busy, but they had some open tables. We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and were seated immediately. Our waitress was amazing. She is now our favorite server there. Everything was excellent tonight. It was actually the best service we have had there in a while. Just walked out of the Manalapan store. Got there around 8:20, and there was no one up front, waited and waited. There were a few waitstaff and clients, the place was relatively empty. Right as we were getting ready to walk out a waiter started coming over to us to see if anyone had helped us, when a young woman came running from the kitchen to seat us. She asked if we wanted a hi-top table, we said no, a regular table. She then went to clean up a booth, which we didn't want, my husband flagged her down, and she sat us at a table. She neglected to give us menus. She didn't neglect her cell phone though, it seemed to be important to her. My husband and I looked at each other and decided to leave, as we had no menus, and well, the service just sucked and we had enough. I will say it wasn't the first time we have had issues here, and the manager has come over. They need to have adults working in the restaurants and not kids. But I am done, there are restaurants in the area that actually provide service, the correct meals and want our money. Manalapan Applebee's obviously doesn't. read more

I was attack today by the female manager with the black hair and the blonde bartender for telling them my food was overcooked twice. Which was fine as I would have just took it home to my mom she loves it that way. Stopped at Applebee's after my son's football game for something to eat and watch 4PM NFL. Mistake. There were maybe 6 people sitting at the bar. One bartender was checking out her till. The other bartender was glued to the TV with the manager. Sat there for 15 waiting to order a drink. New bartender came in. She spent half her time drinking her D & D iced coffee and biting her nails. Service was terrible. Manager and male bartender were worried about their fantasy football and could care less about customers. They were glued to TVs and no one got any service. Beer was empty for 15 minutes. I never really have a problem when I come to this Applebee's. One time I ordered boneless buffalo wings and they were burnt so I couldn't eat them but they were nice to take them off the bill. I do enjoy the half price appetizers. I miss the potato skins a lot but times change. Linzy is a pretty good waitress here and she even recognized us how cool is that? I give Applebee's 4 out of 5 stars because I do think there is room for improvement. This is one of my favorite Applebee's to go to. read more

I went with my hubby last night for a great meal and requested for REUBAN as my server like i always do now. So, I stop there in the afternoon to get Christmas gift certificates and drop $100 (2/$50 one). To my surprise, I get two $10 discount cards! Sounds great and the bartender who did the transaction says I have to use by 2/28. Sounds great since I have two daughters who drag me here from time to time or I can give them to the oldest (14) who sometimes comes with her girlfriends. Later tonight, after a high school game we attended, my little one picks Applebees. Pretty convenient since I have a $10 card burning a hole in my pocket. So off we go, wait the standard 15 minutes at this same location as earlier today, and get seated. Food always disappoints, but they have good burgers I say, but then I'm reminded- no- they too suck. My kid wants the mud pie something or other as always- large scoop of vanilla, chocolate syrup drowned chocolate cake thing. It is decadent and tasty but the freaking scoop comes out less a good 40%! So now I have to ask our waitress for more ice cream- cause she couldn't see or couldn't care that my scoop wasn't close to full round. Chalk it up to the place has always been run by a very large young staff and one out-manned middle-aged manager. Ah, franchise America. But now I have to pay... So my debit card accompanies the discount card. My check comes back the same amount- no discount card with it. So, I have to remind Linzy that I gave her the card and received no discount. She tells me about something "weird" about those cards and how you can't use them until a certain date. Oh, and she's not giving me back the card! So, I ask her for the manager and along comes middle-aged Rob. He tells me that you cannot use them the day of issuance and he is real sorry. I tell him I dropped 100 bucks and it just worked out this way and you will work out something considering you are the manager and you will find a way to take $10 off the bill. I'm just damned pissed because he's stupid about good business. I also have to remind him that he was the manager earlier in the day when he set me up with the bartender to draft the certificate transaction, so it wasn't like I pulled up in the paneled station wagon, bought the gift certs to now have my brood file in and eat for a $10 discount. One star for crap food, one star for service and bad business sensibilities. That equals two and consider yourselves lucky. Oh, and my youngest (10) now realizes that the food is crap, finally, so I don't have to come here anymore!!! Wahoo!
