If you are looking for a place that's open past 9pm in Central NJ, this is a good option. While everything around is a ghost town, walking in this pub will certainly pick up your mood. Its warm, comfortable inviting décor, with books on the shelves and many TVs playing various sports games will make you ready for that ever important part of the night - your meal. The drinks were perfect. I believe one of them was called "sweater weather" and it was delicious. But, that's where the disappointment also started to set in. It was served by someone clearly not in the mood to smile or be helpful. Toss it up to exhaustion; everyone has a bad night sometime. But then the food arrived. I wish it didn't. The wings were right from the greaser. Couldn't touch them they were so hot, no to mention lacked any crispiness and drowned in sauce. Calamari were undercooked, lacked any seasoning, just bad. Of course, apple pie can't be bad, right? The best part was the ice cream, which they did not make, of course. The pie was soggy, wet crust, just all bad. Visited here for Father's Day. Our party sat outside. It was nice. The bang bang shrimp, calamari & mozzarella sticks were just ok. The soft-shell crab and crab cake sandwich were disappointing. They were so small. I had the skinniest piece of crab cake I've ever been served. I took a photo of the sandwich to show how the crab cake was almost nonexistent in the sandwich. The beer list was amazing -- 31 beers on tap is my kind of place! Dessert was ok. My kids loved the Nutella empanadas. The lava cake was ok & so was the peanut butter pie. The peanut butter pie was really hard to get into. It felt frozen but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. :) I would come back for the beer & to try the burgers. I hear that's what they are known for. Overall I give this place 3 stars for their beer variety and hours. It seems to be the only place around open really late. Our waitress was good but it took us 5-10 minutes to wave down someone to get us a table when we first arrived. Standard American pub fare and comfort food, although it was very greasy and we didn't enjoy it. For the prices they have I thought it would have been a little better quality. I had the Jack Daniel's cheese burger which was also good. We took two orders of CJ wings home with us - one with their buffalo sauce and the other Mango Habanero sauce. Both orders were great with the buffalo sauce slightly better. At $2 a wing, I'm glad the wings were a winner. Service was good and not much ambiance to speak of. Wow this place is too stinking cute. Just walking in the front door you're greeted with a funny surprise (check the name of the business that's upstairs). The booths in the back are perfect for two people, with a real live candle at each table! And I don't know why, but eateries with bookshelves are my favorite places ever and there's a nice big one at this saloon. Plus lots of TV's playing sports to keep my husband happy. Their drink menu looks amazing there's at least 5 things I want to try, never mind the beer menu. I think I read that they have 21 local beers on tap?? I could be making that up. Plus a $5 beer of the day which is pretty awesome. For dinner my husband got the blackened chicken Alfredo and was not very impressed. It wasn't bad but the chicken definitely wasn't blackened and the Alfredo sauce was pretty standard. He did look longingly over at my dish the entire time though, the pesto pasta with sausage. I got it because I love sausage and pesto and I thought it was a unique combo, and combined with the sun-dried tomatoes this was a real hit. I will say the garlic bread was not good (not crispy and not very garlicky), but that's okay because I wolfed down my entire plate of pasta and had no room for it anyway. I definitely was not expecting to eat pasta at this place but was so pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to go back and try their more typical fare. read more

It was our first time here. Excellent food & the service is great! Our server Stephen was very attentive and extremely patient we had a few questions and he covered it all. His recommendations were spot on. I'm picky with seafood and the fish tacos was delicious so far one of my favorite place to order fish tacos. I had not been to the Court Jester for over 10 years and I was sorry that I was there again. I did not select the restaurant but was a guest of a party of 15. Ordered potstickers which came in a sauce and were crispy. The problem was that they were so crispy I couldn't even cut them with a knife! They bordered on being burnt. The vegetables were awful, very rubbery except for the broccoli but such a tiny amount of it you could hardly find in on the plate! The only god thing about this item was the sauce. Also tried the sliders, requested cheeseburger sliders with provolone cheese and fried onions. Cooked medium. The onions were so burnt they were literally stuck together in one spot of the burger, could not see or taste any cheese and it was cooked well done. Had a hard time even swallowing it! Ordered a vodka and lemonade, so much ice and the lemonade was watered down, the drink tasted like water. I was never asked if I needed anything else, wanted anything else or asked how everything was! For an eatery with pretty steep prices for what is a glorified burger joint I would give it a rating of a 1 and only because the representatives that greet you and take the bar/food order was pleasant BUT not pleasant enough to care and check on how things were! If you want a decent but expensive place to grab a margarita or (from what I saw) a decent selection of beers etc., then you may enjoy stopping in. I for one will never go back. read more

Tom, my server, suggested I get the Jersey Devil. It consisted of barbecue chicken, black beans and rice, cheese with three extra cilantro portions in a floured tortilla. Excellent +. I'm a sucker for cilantro. Washed it all down with some Yacht Juice, a local IPA. Seating is pretty tight here since the place is not that large. I came here with three people and we sat to the left where it's like an additional room with big, glorious windows and a dope wall covered with books. The name suits the place well! It's got character all over its decor. Shared the turtle cheesecake with another, and two friends shared their molten lava cake. The cheesecake I had was magical. It was up there with some of the best cheesecakes I've had. It was so fresh, creamy, and tasty. Highly recommend if you're looking for dessert to go with your bar food. My group loved their extensive beer selection and their margaritas. I didn't have anything to drink besides seltzer, my go-to. Everything was great. I just wish they had some AC. The wings came out pretty quickly, they are extremely crispy which was good but also a little dry. The blue cheese dipping sauce tasted off though. The salad was probably a bad choice at a tavern, the dressing was a little heavy and didn't come out right. Over all it tasted like a grocery store bagged salad. The chicken on the ceasar wasnt anything special but it also wasn't bad. The steak came out way over cooked (requested a medium rare got a well done). So I can't really comment about it. I'm solely rating this place based off its food. If I was to take service into consideration my score would go up to four stars, as the service was welcoming and catered to our needs. The wings were truly phenomenal, not an overbearing amount of sauce with a perfect crisp. The flavor of the Buffalo sauce was tangy and had that little kick that you'd expect. Unfortunately, the burger was a miss for me. The meat was under seasoned and bland, the bun was not toasted so the burger felt dry, really just no flavor there. The waffle fries were tasty. On a cold spring day during the pandemic, the Court Jester offered us sunny outdoor seating and reasonable food. Those of us who understood we were eating at a straightforward bar did well - the burgers, fries, side salad, and beer were all good choices. The Rueben was also tasty as was my patty melt. Those who were more adventurous and ordered nachos, other 'ethnic' foods, and mixed drinks were not so happy. The 'cheese' that came with the pretzels was particularly revolting. That said, if you want a burger and a beer in downtown Freehold I can recommend the Jester unreservedly. read more
