I've been to this Smashburger several times recently and they are always so quick. I ordered on the app, and immediately got a text that they were working on my order... 7 minutes later, it was ready for pickup. It was towards the end of the night, so there weren't too many people inside, but the staff were kind and the restaurant was clean. This time, I got the Double Jalapeño Crema Smash (hold the Jalapeños). The burger itself was a little bit bland, but I added some sauce at home, and it was good to go. The only other negative is that this burger was just dripping grease. Overall, a good experience and I'll be back to try more burgers. read more

Came here to get dinner and every once in a while I'll come here for a burger, I placed my order online I ordered a hotdog, salad for my dad and a kids meal for my mom. We go to pick up our food and the manager saids that they're out of hotdogs and she was so apologetic and felt so bad. She gave us credit back and 2 free drinks and a double smashburger for free. Another artisanal burger factory whose take on the world is to pile as many leaking condiments and toppings onto five ounces of well done beef - all plopped on a yeasty bun designed to send you out into the world in perpetual need of a dry cleaner. The burger was fine and the fries would have been fantastic last Wednesday but sometimes supply and demand intercedes and renders freshness moot. The meal wasn't horrible but these guys are not shy about pricing and should really up their game. Modern Burgermeisters love to play dress up but the meal is still somewhat of a commodity. Ordering through Uber Eats on the regular, I'd expect consistency from a well established place. It's either GREAT or terrible. I understand this is probably an issue that Uber and Smash burger needs to figure out, BUT I always have to call to ask for condiments on the side after placing my online order (because there is no option to choose any while placing the order.) I normally end up speaking with someone named Jordan who seems to always be on point by adding sauces for me. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the lack of competence on behalf of the entire staff. My food generally arrives cold, with ingredients consistently missing. If I'm paying for bacon, I expect the bacon to be on the burger, if I ask for pickles I expect them to also be there. This is a regular thing. Burgers are not meant to be smashed! Everyone knows this makes them less juicy! But yet, my family requests to come here when craving a burger. I have to admit, at first I wasn't a fan. I thought it was a glorified fast food joint with a higher price tag, but it's not too shabby. My wife and I came here 1yr ago. The food was amazing. Came back today an I can tell you were never coming back. She ordered the Avocado bacon burger, she said it had no flavor. I have to say I'm pretty neutral about this place. I like to come here for an occasional chicken club. The food is not mind blowing, but it's not bad either. Customer service is great, but I did notice that the tables were not wiped down and we had to wipe down a booth before seating ourselves. There were a few dirty booths too. My avocado on my chicken club was sliced but not spreaded out, maybe the cook was having an off day since they did lay out the pieces last time. Also I'm not sure if this applies to all Smashburger restaurants, but this one opens at 10am, which is good if you happen to be hungry while servicing and waiting for your car at Pepboys. read more

I was really, really, really excited to try the peppermint bark milkshake. I went to the counter and that was the first thing I said. The women at the counter said " OH NO" we are out. I was really sad when she said that. I mean come on its the holidays darn it. I don't know if she meant forever/ just today/ or this week. It doesn't matter, I quickly made the Oreo selection. Ok, normally I would rate smash burger a five star, but they lost a star because of the milkshake and NOT having the limited edition flavor. It was an Oreo milkshake and they only make one size.......I know its not hard to make a milkshake, but no one makes a milkshake with that much milk. I was really sad when I got my order (we left the place already) otherwise I might have said something. I just put it in the freezer but it didn't thicken up, that is when I knew it was the milk (TOOO MUCH MILK). The burger was delicious as always, but the fries were a little cold. I tend to stop in when I have coupons that give me a discount because it's not cheap. That said, the sandwiches aren't bad at all. I like that they are customizable, but definitely calorie heavy. My recommendation is the crispy chicken patties, they're delicious. Their black bean burgers are also good and house made! Definitely appreciate that all the sandwiches can be made vegetarian. When we arrived there was a big spill on the floor in the middle of all the tables, napkins all on the floor (nowhere near the spill) I told the staff about it they said ok. My wife, daughter and I ordered our food at a not busy time my food and my daughters food came out rather quickly, but my wife's food not so much. I went up and said something but by the time it finally got to us we were already done with our dinner and proceeded to leave. Oh and when left the spill was still on the floor. Absolutely disgusting what the kids that work at this location did to my friend and I on a Saturday night. We went to grab a burger at close to closing. The kids were furious we had the nerve to come into the store at 9:40 pm when they are open till ten. There were 3 tables of people in the store eating when we arrived. As we walked up the 2 kids behind the counter were looking at us like we were crazy. One of them actually said as we walked up " did you order something , I'm pretty sure the kitchen is closed". Long story short they reluctantly took our order but not before telling us we would have to take it to go because the eating area is closed even though there were 3 occupied tables. We said ok. As we were waiting for our order 7 teenagers came walking in followed by another gentleman. They all ordered food and sat down. We got our food and left for home as requested. The burgers were both under cooked and had no lettuce or tomato or mustard that was asked for. We ordered the onion rings and they gave us the most disgusting order of rings I've ever seen. They were dark brown and soaking wet with dark brown grease. It was very obvious the kids working there were mad we had the gall to come in their store at 20 minutes to closing and deliberately sabotaged our food. When I dumped out the onion rings they were in an actual puddle of dark brown grease. They must have scraped off the goop from the bottom of the frier or poured old waste grease on them. Im appalled at the way we were treated verbally and horrified by what the 'food' looked like. I ate none of the food as it was not fit for human consumption. Smashburger is the real McDonald's. What I mean is, they actually bear a passing resemblance to the friendly service that is advertised by McDonald's, but never delivered. It's a refreshing change... though it really should be the norm, rather than the exception. The burgers are excellent-- juicy and flavorful and just the right size. You can order one of their special burgers, such as the truffle mushroom swiss burger (my favorite) or any one of several versions of the BLT (jalapeño, avocado, etc). And they have a New Jersey Burger-- which I've had, but I don't recall offhand what was Jersey about it. If you want just a regular burger and to moderate spending, you can do Build Your Own. It's definitely less expensive if you don't like cheese and get just regular toppings (at this particular chain, it's 4.91). I think it may still be less expensive even if you get just one special topping. The special burgers are around 6 or 7 dollars. The fries are just ok... they're a bit soggy and oily. I don't think it's wise to add those to your order. I think they have salads, but I don't think that they have a side salad. Or if they do, they should advertise that more prominently because I've never noticed it or had it suggested to me (it's always, do you want fries with that? Do you want a shake?). They also have a grilled chicken option, but in my opinion if you go to a burger place, you might as well just go ahead and order the burger. They have an email list called the smashclub which sends the occasional $2 coupon and a free milkshake on your b-day (need to purchase an entree, though). They don't bombard you too frequently, which would've been an immediate unsubscribe for me-- they sent one maybe around once a month. I tried it for several months, but unsubscribed because it was causing a persistent increase in my burger consuming behavior. For me, saving $2 is not worth becoming a fatty. One complaint-- they have a new promo where if you go to the website listed on your receipt and fill out their survey, you can get a code for free fries. No additional purchase necessary, so you can fill out the survey while you wait for your burger and then go right back through the line and get some fries. However, the survey asks for your phone number, which you should NOT give them. I know this sounds obvious, but the way it's asked makes it looks like it's required, and it says some confusing things about a sweepstakes that momentarily plays on your hopes, all while reassuring you that they won't do anything with your information except to tell you that you won... I entered my actual phone number (my Google number). They immediately tell you that you didn't win and then give you the code for soggy fries. I know that a lot of stores and promo surveys do tricky things like that to get your information, but just because it's common doesn't make it right. Just like it's not right for every fast-food cashier to have the energy of a dead fish. You'd think they'd know that... read more

I hate updating a review with a lesser rating, but I recently came back to Smashburger and sampled a few more things on the menu. My initial four-star review was a bit of a stretch, and after this recent visit, I have to knock it down to three to keep it real with my Yelp friends. What changed? Well, the burger actually DIDN'T change. It's still good. Not amazing. Not Five Guys. But still good. And I prefer the sit-down, serve-me ambiance of Smashburger over places like Five Guys. But this time I tried the Smash Fries. I did not realize they would be those thin shoestring fries. I'm not a fan of those. I like some potato with my potatoes. And these were only just warm, limp, and undercooked. I also didn't think the whole rosemary and EVOO thing worked all that well. I would never get fries here again. I also tried their truffle mayo and Smash sauce that's I've heard so much about. Didn't care much for either of these either. The truffle taste in the truffle mayo tasted really artificial and cloying. I can't imagine it's made with real truffles. And I should have asked about the Smash sauce because if I knew it was made with mustard, I would have passed on it. I don't like mustard on my burger. In fact, the only dressing that should ever go on a burger is mayo -- maybe Sriracha mayo if you want a little kick. Bottom line -- Smashburger makes a decent burger, and if you're in East Brunswick, it's probably one of the better burgers in town. One tip I will share is that my wife is a vegetarian and loved their spicy black bean burger. That's something you can't get at Five Guys, making Smashburger a good choice if you have a non-meatitarian in your group. read more

I do understand that it's "smashed" but dang was it thin. With the bun, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions the patty to bun ratio was non-existant. I couldn't taste the patty at all! I think this place is trying super hard on their "customer service" Let's start with the food. Chicken Avocado Bacon Ranch Chicken was juicy, very thin, sometimes that could be ok if you don't overcook it. Mine happen to be perfect. Avocado was ripe and had a buttery texture. The cook made a mistake and put red onion on mine, it doesn't get red onion at all, but no biggie. The ranch and the mayo confuse me a little bit. But it def adds flavor to the sandwich. What some people don't realize, even when they smash their burgers or chicken breast, its still the same size. So when people complain about the thickness, you're taking in the same amount of meat. Sweet Potato fries are so delicious. Super thin and crispy. It is a little on the pricey side compared to other burger joints. But service with a smile will have me coming back day in and day out. I thought this place was quite good for a burger joint! The burgers were nice and juicy! The toppings were all stacked well, and didn't fall apart like crazy! The staff was nice, and we had quick service! The ambiance is a pretty casual space, with mostly red booths, and brown chairs, all around. All of our food was ready in less than 10 minutes! And, we came as a group of 8! The milkshake that I had , I thought could be better! It wasn't very thick, and to me tasted more like melted milk, and to me a milkshake should be more sweet!
