My friends and I visited this location for a quick bite to eat on 6/8/26 and unfortunately had one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. The only positive aspect of our visit was the manager, who was very pleasant, professional, and apologetic throughout the situation. Shortly after being seated, I noticed a swarm of gnats around our table. At first my friends didn't see them, but after they started swatting them away, we discovered one had actually landed in my friend's drink. We asked to be moved to another table, but our waitress seemed irritated by the request and told us it wouldn't matter where we sat because the gnats were everywhere and some areas were even worse. After we moved, her attitude remained noticeably unpleasant. In fact, another friend joined us about an hour later and immediately asked, "What did y'all do to her?" after a brief interaction with our waitress while trying to order a drink. The restaurant was not busy--there were only about six occupied tables--yet we waited an unusually long time for our food. When it finally arrived, the quality was disappointing. My friend's rice was dried out and only lukewarm. My fries tasted as though they had been sitting for hours, the burger was barely warm, and the onion rings on my burger were so grease-soaked that I felt like I could have squeezed oil out of them. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt compelled to share it. Between the gnats, the poor service, and the disappointing food quality, this was easily one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a very long time. This review is only on the service, its Applebee's food, the same as all other applebee's.... I've been here 5 times over the course of 2 months, eveytime.... The place is dead, and you have to wait about 10 mins to be seated, and the last 3 times I've ordered carry out...... Every Time I've waited at least 20 mins, the last time I can late, and still had to wait, obviously they don't even start your order until you get there, which defeats the point of online ordering lol. The last place that was there, Bar Louie, same experience, so obviously same owner, this Applebee's wont be there long. read more

Hubby and I have been wanting to check this place out since they opened, and finally came for dinner. It's located inside the Delta & Fairfield Inn by Marriott with plenty of parking. We were greeted and seated quickly in a booth near the front. Our server, Raven, was fantastic! Since it was a very cold day, my husband asked if we could sit farther back, and she happily accommodated us without hesitation. The space has a fun vibe with modern decor. We started with the spinach-and-artichoke dip. Hubby liked his amaretto stone sour, and I ordered their new pina colada with strawberry swirl, which was good. He complimented the bartender on our way out. Hubby ordered the 8 oz. top sirloin with coleslaw and garlic mashed potatoes as his sides, and I went with the Bourbon Street steak skillet, which comes with garlic mashed potatoes. On 08/12/2026. I placed an online at 5:30pm. I order was supposed to be ready at 6:10pm. I went to the restaurant at 6:25pm, order not ready. Order wasn't ready until 7:00pm. I ordered 2 full racks of Baby Back Ribs with fries, an order of Loaded potatoes Waves, and the Bacon cheeseburger wonton tacos. $84.00. When I received my order, I asked the staff person if everything I ordered was in the bag, she stated that she checked and made sure all my items were there. Went home and checked my order, items was missing. The order of the loaded potatoes Waves was missing, both racks of baby back ribs was charcoaled burnt on top of ribs and covered up with Barbecue sauce. The ribs was burnt and dry. The container the ribs was in looked like it was used before, because the barbecue sauce was just everywhere in the container. This food was not up to restaurant standard. This was the worst food I ever eaten in my life.I Couldn't take it back, they was closing early for some reason. I contacted corporate but haven't heard bad from them. This is my first time placing an order to go at this new location in Matteson. I know its Superbowl Sunday. I ordered the Bourbon shrimp and chicken, they gave me HALF of a chicken breast and super small shrimps, this order was so salty for $20. The kids 3 PC chicken tenders were so small with fries for $8. My son said the burger had old lettuce on it all for $56. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PLACE AN ORDER TO GO FROM THIS PLACE. I did a phone pick up order the bill was 68 dollars I gave them 80 they had no change had to leave restaurant to get change came back gave me order had 4 sandwiches with fries had no condiments so I ask for forks ketchup mustard and mayonnaise. WOW!! My experience was totally different than most of the ones here! Christina was our wonderful server. I went on a Tuesday afternoon with some bowling buddies. We started off with a cocktail. I had the tipsy Cupid. Great flavor! Then I ordered the 2 for $25 . You get an appetizer or 2 salads. I got the spinach dip. I got the fiesta lime chicken . It was FANTASTIC!! I had leftovers! We visited this restaurant last week and were excited to try our new local restaurant. The entry was spacious and friendly greeting was great. Then we ordered. My husband tried to order ribs and the waitress said I recommend you don't order them we are having problems with them and they keep getting sent back. The spinach dip was watery, my husband's salmon was dry, my steak was dry, they were out of broccoli so I had to get string beans which were hard to eat. The food was not great at all. The service was great but food was disgusting. To top it all off there is an automatic 18% gratuity added to all bills no matter the amount of people in the party. It was only two of us. We were really excited for Matteson to have another new option, but we were disappointed again. I hope the quality of food improves. read more

My family and I visited this Applebee's location on January 2, 2026, to celebrate my husband's birthday. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from start to finish. Other than the delightful African American male host who sat us. When ordering, I asked the server the best way to modify a chicken Alfredo meal without increasing cost or causing inconvenience. I was advised to order the $18 chicken Alfredo with fried chicken, but I was not informed that this substitution would result in an additional $5 charge. This was only discovered when the bill arrived. Our appetizer trio arrived with stale chips, and the spinach and artichoke dip was not hot. Although we informed the server, only new chips were brought out--and they still tasted stale. The dip was never corrected. When our entrées arrived, everyone received their food except me, and the table was missing napkins, leaving my toddler covered in sauce. Drink refills were also very delayed. By the time I received my meal, the rest of my family had finished eating, so I packed it to go. When reviewing the bill, I noticed both the unexpected $5 charge and an automatic 18% gratuity. When I questioned the charge, the server said they were unaware of the issue. I requested a manager, but was initially told management declined to speak with me. Eventually, a manager did come over, removed the $5 charge, acknowledged that it had not been explained properly, then stated she was not the manager who declined to see me and left without further resolution. After paying, our server attempted to pressure me for an additional tip, despite the automatic 18% gratuity already being applied--something I felt was more than sufficient given the level of service. This interaction was uncomfortable and inappropriate. The only positive part of this visit was the host, who was welcoming and professional and set a great first impression. This experience ruined what was meant to be a birthday celebration. Follow-up attempts to resolve the issue afterward were met with long hold times and little concern. I've had good experiences at other Applebee's locations, but based on this visit, I would not recommend the Matteson location. read more

The experience was horrible. The staff seated us and it took 40 minutes for before someone took the order. We ordered two drinks that was completely watered down. The y brought out one appetizer that was cold. At this time we were completely feed up and asked for a manager. It took us and additional 15 minutes for her to come speak with us. The place look nice! When we were seated we noticed the sign that said 18% gratuity will be charged to the bill. We thought it's just two of us, but ok we won't have to tip then. Once seated, our waitress was very nice and pleasant, but didn't get us water to drink. We ordered our food. The appetizer came quick, but we waited a while for our entree. The waitress came to let us the know kitchen was backed up, but our food is coming out. I noticed people the came in after us got their food...... when we got our food, the waitress apologized to me because there was a lot of sauce on my food. Once I tasted it, it was so salty! When we paid the bill in cash, the waitress asked if we wanted change, then proceed to say the servers prefer the tip in cash. You tip is included with the bill!!!! We won't be back read more

Food is trash my salmon was fried like a pork chop fried pickles was super soggy with just a lot of seasoning on top, spinach dip is like a soup not sure what it taste like, green beans right out the microwave and service was ok I ordered take out and they charged me a 13 dollar service fee for take out if you going to do that at least have good food.Usually something good but when the appetizer and your meal bad not sure how long this place will last I would have rather donated that 90 bucks to charity read more

You would think that with two Marriott brand hotels in the building fairfield and delta, that the owner would have a more upscale restaurant brand. However this applebees is no different than the other ones in the southland, Slow service, Long wait times to be seated in an empty restaurant, poor wait staff, food that tastes like it came directly from the freezer and tastless and watered down drinks. and it is extremely hard to either find or get the attention of the server. At this location they charge 18 percent gratuity but the server was disturbed that we did not also leave her a tip, are you kidding me. This second reincarnation of Applebees to Matteson does not have a chance of surviving if management or the corporation and franchise owner develop a new plan. I will continue to frequent the restaurants in Frankfort, Orland area and Mokena. read more

This is a new Applebee's that I was excited to try. The restaurant is lovely; however, there was an issue as soon as you hit the door. There is just not enough staff to adequately run the facility. The food was fair to good. I enjoyed the entrée that I ate, the appetizer: the classic combo. But would love to see this restaurant succeed. So, I suggest hiring more staff and then they will be hopefully, like a well-oiled machine. read more

We spent $100 for me to get sick before I left. Ourwaitress tried but the food was slow and we never received some of the order. I noticed the people working their were in there everyday clothes with nothing identifying they worked there ( not an apron or t-shirt) nothing. The food was mediocre. I had salmon that was dry and overcooked And broccoli was not hot. The appetizer was ok, except the sampler spinach dip had no taste and not hot. The required 18% tip was a joke. Usually we love going to our Local Applebees, however traveling through Matteson we decided to stop at theirs. Completely different experience. Upon arrival we were greeted with "its going to be a 10 minute wait," no problem that's not long but it looked dead? We get seated and our server arrives, undelightful, doesn't seem like anyone in the restaurant even wanted to be there. Like would it kill you to make us feel welcomed? Besides for the hostess she was nice) Takes our order as usual, drinks arrive, (besides my wifes blackberry lemonade) then food arrives as usual. My pasta was cold and the alfredo was watery. They forgot my daughters broccoli, then they forgot her yogurt and strawberries. My other daughter ordered a plain burger, it came loaded. We asked for a remake and when they brought it there was a long black curly hair right ontop of her burger. Like really? Then finally my wifes blackberry lemonade shows up after we're all almost done eating. I don't know what it was but the place had horrible energy and just seemed like everyone was quite literally dragging their feet and did not give a two-you know whats if we were there or not.
