Stayed at the Doubletree for the night and stopped here for a quick bite to eat after my flight got in, as well as breakfast the following morning. The lunch/dinner menu is a little less expansive than I had hoped, with fairly limited options.. that being said, I had the french onion soup which was pretty awesome, as well as chicken lettuce wraps which were decent - not my favorite, but seemed fresh and a good option for healthier eaters. I remember there was an intriguing 'small plates' menu that was being featured at the check in desk - some things such as an avocado crab toast caught my eye. However, I did not receive that menu when ordering in the bar area.. something to maybe ask about next time! Breakfast was about what you'd expect for a buffet (apparently there's a way you can get a coupon for free breakfast, but I didn't have one, so mine cost $14.95 without tip). Buffet options included scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, yogurts, fresh fruit. They also had an omelette station, which was a highlight for sure. TLDR - probably wouldn't return just to eat unless I was staying at the hotel, but also not a terrible option for anyone who's staying overnight/for a few nights and doesn't want to leave the hotel to eat. read more

Nothing to write home about, and really nothing to make it stand out over anybody else's food, but it was good, and it was served by some really nice folks. I must say the service was solid for dinner (despite a hopping bar area), but the food was...meh. I used the Yelp coupon for group that garnered a free appetizer, but the buffalo chicken balls were dry, tough and were delivered with out ANY care for presentation. Considering they were free, I feel remiss stating such, but I also wish I had chosen something else or skipped it all together. I then moved onto a steak with fries which was also haphazardly plated. The stock pictures of beef tenderloin with asparagus is exactly that, a stock picture. This specimen was IHOP steak & eggs 2 AM quality, but at least it was covered with blue cheese. Made a reservation for Sunday at 12:30pm. Got a reminder stating that the reservation was confirmed and provided a reservation number. I drove 40 miles to this restaurant only to be told they don't even open till 4pm and they had NO idea why I was given a reservation. The gal could only shrug and say "sorry". If there are any reasons to subtract stars, they might be: a.) the amount of food served is too great for a person in my age group. B.). I can't think of B. So far I have had three dinners there while attending a Ship Reunion at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alsip. (The hotel rates a special-separate 5 Star Review.) Excellent While dining I noticed the couple at the next table were having an interesting and apparently enjoyable meal. I enquirer, and after their endorsement decided it would be my next visit meal! Evening two dinner was The Chicken Pot Pie, and as promised by the Irish couple on Holiday it was indeed excellent. A little unexpected surprise was the presence of a couple mini dumplings in the pie and melted cheese over the crust. This time the portion was appropriate. So much so that I felt that a desert and cognac would round out the meal. I opted for the Bananas Foster. I was maybe a little disappointed that my waiter told me that it would not be flambé at the table, but no big deal. You don't eat the presentation! I was totally blown away by the presentation as it appeared. Refer back to meal one. The quantity again was enough for four persons. Since I didn't think I could successfully doggie bag any of this I managed to consume three quarters of it before I had my cognac. Price even with the cognac still very reasonable. OKAY, I know this I getting a little lengthy and maybe boring, but I just gotta go on. Night three the advertised "Special" was a Burger and a Beer for $10. All right! I'm sure they can't over feed me on this one. When taking my order my waiter, whom I beginning to think of as a friend began t interrogate me about how cooked? Toppings, (lettuce, tomato, cheese (doesn't that make it a cheese burger?), mushrooms? All answered in the affirmative - then - onions? A emphatic NO- Enough already! Finally a meal I was sure I could finish- well nearly! I probably left a few now long cold fries in the basket. I have one more meal to brag about, that being the banquet they fed our reunion group last night; but I gotta take a break and maybe a nap after the farewell breakfast I just finished a couple hours ago! ! read more

My husband and I were at the Doubletree for a week while he was on business. I was very much on an "escape my children vacation", tagging along with my husband. My main goal was curling up in bed to read a book all week. It was so nice to have a restaurant with good food attached to the hotel that didn't feel like bar food. I enjoyed the, Slow Braised Beef Brisket, Fried Chicken and Dumpling Pot Pie... twice !! Filet Mignon And a Beef Burger from room service. The first meal, lunch, I went down to the restaurant, I made it during operating hours. The hostess seated me at an awkward "for two" table when the place was pretty much empty, seriously just one other patron. I should have spoken up and asked for a booth. Aside from taking my order and handing me the bill I was basically ignored and never even saw the server to ask for a refill. Thankfully the Slow Braised Beef Brisket tasted delicious with plenty of gravy and I didn't need to choke it down with a drink. I decided to go back the next day because I did not want to drive in the snow and there were a couple other items on the menu that looked good. The second meal, lunch, the restaurant was closed but I was able to sit in the Spotlight Lounge and order from the same menu. The lady behind the bar was AWESOME (I really wish I remembered her name). I was able to sit where ever I wanted and of course chose a booth to get comfy in while reading my book. The Fried Chicken and Dumpling Pot Pie was yummy and my favorite. The third meal, lunch, I purposely went down when the restaurant was closed so I could sit in the lounge again. The lady behind the bar remembered my drink order and asked if I wanted the same, I appreciated that!! The Filet Mignon was cooked perfectly to my request, excellent. The fourth meal, lunch, I planned on convincing my husband to eat dinner in the Spotlight Lounge so I ordered room service, the Beef Burger was good. The fifth meal my husband agreed to eat in the hotel. I was craving the Chicken and Dumpling Pot Pie again and it lived up to my memory !! The lady behind the bar of course remembered me again and even though it was much busier, I still felt like she was just as personal and friendly. My Pros The lady running the Spotlight Lounge!!! The cook and delicious food!! My Cons The hostess at Allgauers, not just for the table she seated me at, she was not polite at all. The server at Allgauers, I still gave him a decent tip because I knew I wanted to go back and try other things on the menu and didn't want even crappier service. If my memory serves correct, Allgauer's was a steak house when the attached hotel was a Radisson. It was excellent food and a legitimate steak house in the Southland. The Radisson is now the DoubleTree and Allgauer's is now an average restaurant. Sandwiches, entrees, drinks are all good but not great. There are not many dining options in the immediate area surrounding the hotel so you might as well eat here, have drinks, and then go back to your room. read more

Their breakfast buffet is great. They have cooked to order omelets, bacon, sausage, potatoes, fruit, yogurt and the list goes on. For a breakfast buffet, the bacon is hands down the best I've ever had. It's not soggy or soft, but crispy with great flavor. If you're a gold or diamond Hilton Honors member you get the breakfast for free if you stay there. I've also had dinner here before and the food was great. I split the nachos with someone and it was enough to feed more people. That ended up being the only thing we ordered even though the meatloaf sounded amazing. They have a free appetizer check in offer with Yelp so take advantage of that. read more

I was staying at the Alsip DoubleTree on business and this place is inside. They had a great breakfast buffet with an omelette station and all! I love omelettes so this instantly won me over. I had room service for dinner two nights in a row and again they did not disappoint. Quesadilla was awesome but I burnt the shit out of the potato soup, it was volcanic!!! The Sunday brunch was a fuel filling extravaganza. My eyes led me to the Hawaiian salad 1st where I thought the peachy appearance would have one flavor, but my pallate was pleasantly surprised with the pineapple-ginger burst of flavor. It complemented the fresh fruit's sweetness. The breakfast sausage was light enough to be eaten with bacon, potatoes and eggs without taking full occupancy of my belly's real estate. I went in for breakfast. The server advised me the only thing available was the breakfast bar. I was quite disappointed however because the breakfast buffet is strictly geared towards red meat eaters in which I am not. I asked the server if they had grilled chicken breast available and she stated that they did not. The poor rating is because of the limited availability on the breakfast menu. read more

I want to send a review for Sue Giles who was the server on staff this evening. This Wonder woman managed 19 tables as a server, managed a full seated bar, and never dropped a beat. Talk about skill and professionalism. I watched her keep absolute control of the entire room and even direct kitchen staff. I asked her how long shed been working here and she told me 20+ years. She puts in more steps in an hour than we do all day. Such a devoted and friendly member of the staff that is responsible for 4 plates spinning in the air at the same time. To quote Gordon Ramsey "D@$&! So very disappointing. The one waitress in the dining room of 40-50 patrons was the best part of our experience. She was frazzled but at least she was trying. The busboy tried to help her out but he wasn't much help. The hostess and manager were next to useless. I ordered the nachos and was not impressed. A plate of tortilla chips with pinto beans, fajita peppers, onions and chicken strips topped with a smattering of cheese, pico de gallo, pourable cheese sauce and an avocado salsa is their nachos. Thankfully I asked about the cheese when ordering or I would have gotten the cheese sauce too. I squashed the avocado salsa in favor of normal salsa. Unfortunately that was some weird concoction so I left it sit. The chicken strips and lettuce strings made it nearly impossible to eat with the tortilla chips. They were too long and too big for nachos. What a disaster! The Coke was off too. The decor: On the surface things seemed very clean. I give them that. The place is in dire need of a deep cleaning though. I could see the dust shrouding the outdated curtains. I ran my finger across the mirror frame above me and came back with a large dust ball. Blech! When the waitress saw how upset I was getting she tried her best to make things better. I never saw or heard anything from the manager who was standing roughly 20 feet away however. This is a nice bar for a Doubletree. The waitress was super nice and despite having 30 guests in there she kept up with all the customers and our drinks were never dry for long. "Don't judge a book by its cover" has never been more true. Overnight at the doubletree in Alsip Illinois.........Right, who's ever been to Alsip! Either way, I had very low expectations. Hotel is nice / clean but getting a bit long in the tooth (that's another review). I stopped in after a long couple of days and didn't care what they served as long as I didn't have to travel to get it. Nothing fancy, but don't let that fool you. The food completely exceeded my expectations. Pasta carbonara felt risky at a hotel bar/restaurant but it turned out totally legit. Basket of rolls, salad, and excellent service. Sue is amazing! At least a dozen tables, most stools at the bar were occupied, but I never felt abandoned. It's nice to meet a professional server these days, and in Alsip of all places. Give this place a try. This place has really gone down hill the last several years. Very poorly managed restaraunt from my last few visits. I am local to this restaraint and used to go there once a month or so for Steak. The prices went up, the portions were drastically reduced. The relish bar was amazing, but thats even gone too. Last time i was there (about 6weeks ago) for a party, there was 10 of us, the hostess made us wait 20+ minutes or so for a table because we didnt have a reservation, but heres the funny part, there was only 4 other guest in a virtually empty restaraunt. Several food orders either had the wrong side items, or the steaks were overcooked. Waitress seemed to careless. read more

I went to the breakfast buffet toward the end of the buffet. On the positive side, the fruit and breads were fresh. However, the eggs were dry and seemed as though they had been there a while. The gravy for biscuits has a layer of "skin" on the top. The cream cheese and butters were not kept cold. The breakfast meats seemed somewhat dry and the pre-made breakfast sandwiches were not that fresh. The service was acceptable. They gave me a small thermos of coffee, so it was nice not having to wait for any refill. Overall, the price was too high for what I received. read more

Heard good things and it had good seafood. But, only 2 seafood entrees on the menu, & our Halibut was dry & over cooked. Saturday night yet we were only one of 2 tables at 7pm. That was a sign, so we didn't expect much. Jamie, our server came with my drink- not the champagne I ordered but a Prosecco because they were out of champagne (it's all at the hostesses' wedding next door but he didn't go get a glass there). Jamie claimed the small bottle of Prosecco he brought is "basically the same" as the champagne. He sat it on the table and left me to open it myself. The Prosecco Bottle wrap was missing the tab, and the hostess saw us struggle to open it so she called Jamie back. He "thought it was just a twist off". He returned with the bottle, wrapper off, and handed it to me...um I guess I pour it myself. After our appetizer, the busser kindly took the rest to put in a box to-go. After our meal, out server Jamie handed us to-go boxes to fill ourselves. They stood waiting for me to put my food in the box so they could take my dirty plate...and the salad dressing since Jamie didn't bring a to-go ramekin. Employees were kind, but I won't return. I went for the breakfast buffet and was all around not impressed. Granted I went towards the end of the breakfast, but I still expect food which is edible. Every sauce had congealed and had thick layers of skin. All of the meat was hard as rocks. The eggs had cooked all the way through and was tough as well. I had a half of a plate of disgusting food and asked for the check. The server never asked why we were leaving early, but did mention that the buffet was expensive and that we should probably have more food. All in all I was the opposite of happy with my time here. For 18 dollars a head they can replace the food when it starts to get grossly overcooked due to time on a warmer. read more

UNBELIEVABLE breakfast buffet! They have everything from freshly cooked hot items including your choice of omlet if you ask your server. The pastry & breads & fruit were fresh & beautiful. They also had regular & Greek yogurt. They bring you an entire pot of coffee & the servers are very attentive. The real thrill for me was that they had locks & bagels with all the trimmings - capers, whipped cream cheese, tomato, green onion - Yummy! Had dinner with my family here and have to say not impressed. The chicken in the buffalo salad wasn't cooked all the way in my daughters dinner and I had the Thai chicken wrap and it was frozen chicken thawed out with some lettuce and three different sauces and some crunchy thing I don't even know what they were??? The fried cheese curds weren't fried all the way and just placed on some lettuce. The only thing that was good was the ice cream deserts. Very disappointed ... tomorrow will go up the road for a hotdog and save the 120.00. read more

My wife and I have visited Allgauer's for dinner a number of times and have always been more than pleased with our meal and service. The entrees are all very good and they offer the most consistently excellent filet mignon in the area. Don't be deceived that this is a hotel restaurant as the food and service are of the highest quality. I cannot speak for the breakfast buffet that is offered but the dinners are superb right down to the homemade soups! read more
