Starving, my boyfriend and I ordered 2lbs of wings and a deluxe pizza. Our waitress took forever to take our order and even longer to bring us the food that was already sitting by the kitchen window, evidently ready to be served. In fact, I got so fed up I actually walked to the bar to ask the bartender if she could remind our waitress to deliver us our food - turns out she was casually socializing with some friends near the pool tables. Anyway, when the food finally arrived almost 45 minutes later, it was disappointly mediocre. Thankfully the wings weren't dry but the honey garlic sauce was more just honey and the breaded wings could use more seasoning - they were rather bland. The pizza was subpar - the crust was thin yet tough and the toppings were eh. Overall, I probably would've had quicker service and better food at a fast food joint. Regrets.

The friendly bartenders, servers, kitchen staff, and support staff all worked together seamlessly with genuine pride and teamwork. Great restaurants don't happen by accident. It's clear the manager has built a culture where everyone supports one another and truly cares about the guest experience. We travel extensively, and seeing a team like this is rare. Between the entertainment, craft beverages, and panoramic views of the harbor, it's easy to see why this has become a Grand Marais favorite. The male bartender team was exceptional hardworking, attentive, and always making eye contact to acknowledge guests, even during the busiest rushes. Their professionalism and hospitality stood out. During our six-day visit, the female bartenders seemed less engaged. That said, the overall experience was fantastic. Jeff and Susan Gecas created exactly what they envisioned when they opened The Gun Flint Tavern, a place where people can enjoy great food, craft-brewed beer, wine, live music, and one of the most beautiful views in town. The historic setting overlooking Harbor Park and Grand Marais Harbor only adds to the charm. We highly recommend stopping by for drinks, music, and the rooftop atmosphere.
