Even though they are currently under exterior construction, this store is super clean and well organized on the inside. They have an amazing selection. The wines are neatly organized and pricing is easy to determine. My favorite though, was checkout. After I had finally made my selections (there was a lot to choose from), there was a very long line. Applejack does such a great job at keeping everybody socially distanced and moving that line along quickly. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. read more

HUGE! HUGE! HUGE! Going into this store is like stepping onto a football field! If you can't find it here, you are probably going to have to go to Napa or Dublin or Italy or Kentucky or Germany! It is the only liquor store in the Denver area that carries the special Orange Blossom beer that one of our out-of-town guests always wants. So every now and then I have to make a trek up I-70 to buy Orange Blossom beer and, of course, I always find a few other goodies that I can't live without too! read more

The delivery service is amazing! I order online they call me within the hour to schedule delivery. The drivers have been on time, courteous, and happy to make the delivery. The BAD: If you are a person of color be prepared to be unnecessarily exposed to improper guidelines putting you at further risk for contracting COVID. I've been a patron of this store for over three years and on today I came in around 3 PM and as I checked out I was of course asked for my ID which is understandable. The cashier (who I won't name, you're welcome) who is not 6 feet away for me, as I held out the ID for her to properly see grabbed it and had to hold it though she was not wearing glasses and could see it from where she stood (she was age 25-35) which again means that I have to take my ID from her now wipe it down because she is wearing disgusting gloves that she has been wearing to touch everything and everyone before me. Gross! Other establishments have asked to see my ID but have not required that they handle it. Those establishments also have proper partitions hung which are not hung at Applejack. Then she proceeded to ask me to remove my mask which puts me at further risk to contract the virus. Oh my trips to this establishment during this pandemic I have not seen one patron including today being asked except for myself to remove their mask. During this pandemic I have only been asked to remove my mask at the airport. So to me this all puts me at a greater risk, and is unacceptable when other cashiers are not following this protocol. The GOOD: Their selection is amazing and they also deliver. Over the years I have seen them deliver in the most horrid of weather conditions. All in all a great establishment but the new staff that they have hired I have been unimpressed with. This is not the first incident on incompetence. As a health professional I understand that precautions need to be taken to check IDs and the like. I do not understand when those measures are not taken for everyone. So to me some of their staff is prejudiced against certain types of individuals--young, brown who knows--but I will think twice before I return. read more

Loved Applejack for years, walked into to the store looking for a certain vodka, wasn't even approached by one single employee, and there were a ton! Seemed I was being avoided! Maybe because I'm Hispanic? Got that vibe. Seen employees helping other customers that weren't Hispanic. Kinda weird, but glad Molly's is close, cause I think I'll go there from now on. I would not recommend this store. It's overrated and nothing special. The people who work here are really unfriendly and unhelpful. The manager was incredibly rude to me and acted like my skin was the wrong color or as if I had leprosy or something. This place is mediocre at best. So it seems appropriate that "jack" is part of this operation's name. I have been buy (and collecting) nice wine for nearly 50 years. When I want a special wine I (like lots of folks I assume) go to the internet in search of the wine and the best buy. As it would happen Applejack had 2018 Opus One at a pretty decent price (about 30 bucks less a bottle). So I ordered some at their online site. I go thru the whole process of ordering using a CC. Nothing special there. And when order is done I get an email. Still all good. Wait a week and nothing. So I call and the order dude says to complete order I must sign a waiver regarding damages (absolving Applejack of any responsibility of course). AND, they must receive payment by wire transfer (not CC) with all of the assorted hassles that go with setting up a wire transfer. I said WTH (I wanted to say something else but I kept it civil.) None of these steps were raised when I completed their online order process, zip, zero, nada! The "dude" emails me that they probably need to change the "verbage" on line. Uh NO they need to not allow orders by CC to begin with. For me it was a big waste of time. Not worth the "savings". Of course I cancelled the order and got the wine elsewhere. A bit pricier but without the after the fact BS. So would I recommend buying from Applejack Wine - NOPE, unless of course you enjoy getting jacked around. read more

Standard large format wine/beer/liquor distributor. I wish they had a better French and Italian wine selection but it's the near in the area. Lines are also unnecessarily long on weekends. There's no reason I should have to wait 5 mins to checkout... Overall it's the best in the area for wine so they'll continue to get my money...I wish total wine would have a location up here but until they do Applejack is all we have. read more

My friend in Lakewood was always telling me about this place, she has the directions down to a tee (she works at the Marriot and fields this question "where can I find affordable booze?" quite often, especially since her hotel is prime location for Red Rocks Ampitheater bands and visitors). It was quite a bit to take in as soon as I entered. They pack the booze so close to the door you wonder if anyone tries to reach an arm in and grab a bottle then scoot off. It is truly a warehouse of wine, you could spend a weekend in there and still not completely search their wine section. Their booze section is no smaller, from the cheapest bottle to a rare, costly gem, both wine & booze, you will find it there. The one thing I wasn't sure about is the groupings, in fact, I'm pretty certain that their wines are randomly sorted. You can find a Tuscan Sangiovese next to an Argentinian Pinot Noir. There was no method to this madness; which can be frustrating if you wanted to, say, only look through Spanish reds, especially when you have a quarter acre of rows to wander through. Even if you're downtown, with countless liquor stores within a couple mile's drive, I would say this place is worth a trip when stocking up for a family occasion, and definitely where you would want to supply your next wine tasting. Last trip to Applejack I forgot to grab my ice on the way out. I have probably spent a couple thousand dollars at this store over the past 2 years. I made an extra trip all the way back to this location WITH RECEIPT IN HAND to get my ice. Manager (female) came over and was extremely rude. She basically accused me of trying to steal ice and explained she would have to review security footage to verify I was not faking this story to get a friggin bag of ice. The whole experience was embarrassing and humiliating. The actual check out people are usually nice at this location. Manager should take a good look at herself in the mirror and ask herself why she works in retail if she's going to be in a pissy mood to customers. Way to set a great example for your employees. Never coming back. Plenty of other liqour stores around, Mollys, Tipys, Argonaut to spend my booze money. Jeez lady. Stealing ice? read more

I've lived in Lakewood for 20 years and it wasn't long after arriving that I found Applejack's. Yesterday, in anticipation of returning to the new normal, I bought a bottle of Lagavulin, my favorite single malt Scotch. Imagine my shock and horror when I dropped the bottle in the parking lot way long before we're allowed to socialize once more. Manager Michael Rourke changed my depression into gratitude as he replaced the bottle. Many props to the crew out front for the attention to social distancing and the disinfecting of the carts. This place will remain an icon of west Denver for decades to come. For those headed west on I-70, be warned that the Youngfield Exit is now moved east a quarter mile to the east. read more

Keelen at Applejack told me I should've returned it that night (of party) rather than giving me any money back. This location is a little far for me since I live closer to Englewood, BUT was easy to get to and was worth the drive! I was picking up a gift card I received late at night and the gentleman at the customer service desk was very nice and helped me find the items I wanted also! I've been searching for these particular ciders from Avalon Organics a local company from Jack Rabbit Hill Farm and they had both ciders! I got a flyer in the mail. $15 off for deliveries of over $100 in product. I needed a nicer bottle for Dads Xmas gift. Ordered his $60 bottle and filled in with another few items to hit over my $100. Scheduled delivery for 2 days out. They called the next day and said to call them to reschedule. I do but nobody answers their delivery extension. Leave message. Called me back and set for day 3 instead. No biggie. They call me back and leave a message that they don't have Dads bottle so they took it off the order. I call, again, no answer. I don't need the order at this point. Why wouldn't they want me to choose another bottle? Nobody cares to answer the phone so I'll just hope that because it's not my fault that I didn't go over the $100 minimum they will still honor the $15 off or at very least a percentage that coincides with my now total. Nope, full price. I refused delivery. Even if I saved my $15 but then tipped $10 I'm really only saving $5 on this order (minus going to get it myself). I called to make sure my payment would be refunded and they actually answered yet didn't care to ask why it was refused. I'll go to Argonaut where they will have my Dads bottle and probably save more than $5. Great costumer service guys! read more

Simply put Applejack is a supermarket for beer, wine and spirits its that big. Their beer selection is BIG, especially, their bombers...I can browse there forever, but I frequently ask their beer guys for recommendations. I've lucked out from a timing standpoint and have been able to buy Pliny and some other limited release stuff. While I don't buy wine as much I do appreciate their selection (ENORMOUS) and help. Was in not to long ago and one of their sales folks was quite helpful. One tip I'd give you is to get on their email list. I bought a couple of bottles of The Prisoner for $29.99 each...great deal on an awesome wine. They updated the store in recent months with new logo, signage and paint...well overdue refresh. read more

Besides the cash deal, the reason I can't give this store its fifth star is the wine vendors posing as employees: On a busy day, say, right before Thanksgiving or something, you will be greeted by what appears to be an extremely helpful & knowledgable staff person. However, be forewarned that this person is in fact there to sell you their own brand of wine. So if you ask for a Cab, they'll "highly recommend" THEIR Cab. I love the selection at Applejack, so I was really excited to be using them as our vendor for the alcohol at our wedding. Unfortunately, I was left dissapointed. Our order was pretty simple: -Budweiser -white wine -red wine -champagne -Pumpkin beer (Colorado brewed) When we went in we were given a few choices for the pumpkin beer and were told to call back as soon as we knew which one we wanted so they could reserve it. We went home, tried the beers, and called right away and were told that they would reserve the beer (we even paid for the entire order to ensure this). Well two weeks later (and two weeks before the wedding) we get a call and are told that they never put our beer of choice aside and had since sold out. We were bummed because we really loved the beer we chose. So we chose another CO pumpkin beer and were told it would be reserved. The morning of my wedding, the person delivering the beer informs us that they didn't put the other beer aside and that they brought a different pumpkin beer (not from CO). When my mom mentioned that this was the second time this happened, the delivery man snottily said "well we tried calling your daughter this morning". A.) No you didn't. I have no missed calls. B.) What would I have been able to do about it anyways? We never got an apology and this makes it so that I will never return. read more

I like the selection, but the customer service...kinda surprised to see all the decent reviews here and then read one that explained it: If you check in to Yelp while at this store, you receive a free corkscrew. Yep. Bribery at it's best. So, here's the deal. My husband and I are not imbibers, but we do like to purchase gifts of alcohol at times, and especially at the holidays. We had planned a hot chocolate and liquor holiday mug gift for his coworkers, and I went to Applejack for those nifty little mini bottles that contain flavored Baileys. I have three small children under four so as soon as we entered the store, they all three went into the cart and I explained to my two oldest that everything in the store was breakable and they mustn't touch anything. We found the little Bailey's bottles and I put six of them into the cart with my children. My kids are generally pretty well-behaved in stores. They have their moments like all kids do, but we usually are on the receiving end of compliments for their behavior and we try to encourage them to be helpers. I had gotten to the store quite early: It was probably about 9:45am, and though things were already hopping, there weren't any lines. I pulled my cart up to the counter and (as they always do, when we have groceries), my children reached down, picked up the little bottles and began "Helping" me by setting them on the counters. They were not being rambunctious or rowdy in any way. And the lady behind the counter tells me, "Um, they really shouldn't. It IS alcohol." I looked at her in semi-disbelief. Like, what, you think the alcohol is going to reach out through the plastic and infect them right here in the store? Do you think I'm purchasing the bottles for my three small minors? I mean, isn't this carrying the letter of the law a little too far? The only thing I could think in that moment is that possibly, she was concerned about the bottles somehow breaking. "They're plastic," I murmured. The clerk on the other side, who was serving nobody at that moment turned around and gave me a disgusted look while commenting, "They're STILL alcohol!" Wow. Okay. So, if you have some kind of law to rigorously follow, how about you say something along the lines of, "I know it seems a bit over the top, but we really have to enforce yada-yada-yada." I don't know, maybe they were offended that I had three children in their store at all. When I think about it, it is almost humorous that they acted as if I was committing some kind of crime, since my husband and I don't even drink and already have conversations with our four year old about how drinking too much alcohol does crazy stuff to your brain and I had just had a conversation with my son on the way to the store, explaining that we were giving Daddy's coworkers just a little bit that would not hurt their brains, but just make them a nice little drink. Like, really? Could you have chosen a less likely family to harp on regarding liquor? I took the remaining bottles from my children and placed them on the counter myself. My four year old didn't understand the behavior that he interpreted as rude (which, really, can you blame him?) and asked me, "Why will they not let me help?" "Because they're being silly," I said to him in a voice only he could hear. And I could have added a few other descriptions about their behavior but chose not to. It left a very yucky taste in my mouth about the visit to the store and I will not be back. I will take my business and my polite children somewhere else. read more

Sort of the perfect storm in the land of alcoholic beverages...you won't find a better wine selection (nor beer, or almost any kind of booze) anywhere around here. I seem to remember hearing years ago that they had over 10,000 different wines, and would guess that that number has only gone up since. But, not only do they have the best selection, their prices are consistently better than pretty much every other liquor store around. Also, I am constantly impressed with the staff. Even though they are always busy (the place runs like a huge, well oiled booze machine) the staff is always incredibly helpful. They usually know their stuff, but if you have an odd question that the person helping you may not have all the info on, they will find someone that can give you better info. That's awesome service. For a single bottle, it may not pay to drive to Applejack, but if you are buying several, preparing for a party, etc. your money is better spent at Applejack. read more

As a heavy drinker, I do appreciate a place like Applejack. The place is like a monster warehouse of booze, and you can pretty much find anything you ever wanted in there. I can't speak to the wine selection or staff knowledge of wines, because I'm the sort of gal who is impressed by Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill. But I can tell you that they have a metric crapload of wines, liquors, and beers, so I'm sure you can find whatever you desire. Sometimes their sale prices are great, and you can get a membership card that rewards you with free booze after you buy a certain amount. I can't give 4 or 5 stars because they only take cash (though there is an ATM on premises), because their non-sale prices are sometimes not that great, and because they are located so far out of the way unless you happen to live in Wheat Ridge or something. Overall, this is a great place to go, especially if you are gearing up for a massive party and need to stock up on gallons and gallons of booze! read more

Well, Applejack is certainly big. But big does not always mean better. They definitely have an amazing wine selection. However I came in looking for a nice whiskey and was disappointed with their selection. Also for such a large liquor store, I was hoping to find some knowledgeable staff to help me select my purchase. No such luck. That's not to say I won't return to Applejack, I work nearby and they do have great pricing on wine and beer. However, there are better options in Colorado with staff that knows a thing or two about the products. read more

Applejack's finest attribute is being just on the way to Red Rocks (conveniently right off of I-70 between Denver and Morrison), therefore making it an ideal spot to pick up some six packs for the line to get into a show. Its second finest attribute is the sale prices. $6.99 for a sixer of Avery cans or $7.99 for Crazy Mountain's delicious varieties (including my favorite chamomile beer, Lava Lake Wit)? Yes, please. I always mean to pick up a six pack and end up needing a box. The deals are also for everyone, not just those on a frequent shopper program (although I think you used to have to sign up). The third finest attribute is the plentiful, friendly cashers. I guess I don't need to elaborate on that, but I do appreciate being able to set down my armloads of beer right away. The parking around the area can get a little dicey on the weekends as people cart out boxes of Franzia, kegs for a BBQ, or are trying to do a year's worth of wine purchasing in one go. I find it most helpful to park slightly away from Applejack for the sake of sanity. read more
