This used to be the Kahuna of discount liquor stores. Now, with Total Beverage and quite a few others, their pricing is just comparable. It's taken them nearly 20+ years to start accepting credit cards and debit cards. The parking lot is a pain to maneuver around and it's not easy to get in and out of, unless your going with the flow of traffic. They have all the shopping carts right in the front when you walk into the narrow entrance, so it's a proverbial "You Tube Slam Fest" video moment of people trying to dodge one another, getting squished all while trying to pull out a cart. Five stars for Applejack!! These guys know their booze. I'm an unashamed Francophile and the sommelier has exquisite knowledge of French wines. And if I find something I like elsewhere, they will either track it down or find something comparable, and their response time is impressively fast. And I like that they'll recommend a wine from another region without pushing me into higher price brackets. If I need a budget bottle, I'm still treated with a sincere desire to help me find what I'm looking for. I do appreciate that!! I'm not as into the spirits so I rely on their guidance when I need to get a gift or restock. It's a whole lot farther than Tipsy's for me to drive, but the experience is 1000x better and worth every bit of extra effort to get there. Friendliness goes a long way. AND they deliver. If you need to get something better than Coors and live in Applewood and have literally no other transportation options other than a bicycle, then this place is worth a stop. But hell, I'd rather drive way the hell out of my way to go to the only slightly better selection at Tipsy's than deal with the grumps and curmudgeons that staff this place. There is no one walking the aisles to help you and the staff at the registers are too busy ringing up people to assist anyone on the sales floor. This place is clutch. I'm an event planner for a local nonprofit, and every time we need booze for an event these folks come through. Not only are they willing to sell us booze at-cost (suuuuuper important for penny-pinching nonprofits!) but they're willing to deliver, making this employee's life a helluva lot nicer. ANNNNND if I accidentally overestimate the amount of wine we need, and if there's an entire case of something left over, they let us return it. Their staff is very helpful, and will walk you through any cocktail mixing questions you may have, as well as the timeline for your event and what kind of booze is best for ya. Oh my gosh. Any type of anything you'll ever need. Similar pricing to every other liquor store in town, but so much more selection. The employees were great too. This is the only place I can find Jack Daniel's Black Jack Cola, and I am SO thankful that they have it. Had the absolute worst customer experience here, My husband and I went in and had no problem, by the time we get to checkout my husband is putting the items up on the counter and while paying for it my husband gives her his idea since he's the only one buying something, and the cashier says she has to see both of our IDs, even though I told her I'm not getting anything and I don't have my wallet with me. She responds extremely rudely telling me that I can go get it out of the car and says she won't sell us anything and goes to get her manager. We live and hour up the mountain and made the special trip just to come to here. I have been in this particular applejacks many times accompanying friends to get drinks and have never been asked to show my ID when I wasn't purchasing anything. For my ever-expanding bottle collection of Colorado Whiskeys and Spirits, I come to Applejack more than any other store. Walking the aisles, you'll be hard pressed to not find something to catch your eye or pique your interests. Being the start of Fall season, and Shipyard Pumpkin I might add, I had stopped in to check out the pumpkin beer selection. Not to my surprise, my go-to (shipyard) was out of stock. While I was disappointed to find out that the last shipment had poured off of the shelf, I was beyond happy to watch the employee check all corners of the store for me. This place literally rocked my world. If you're in the market for some booze in bulk, this is the place to go! We picked up 48 bottles of wine, 3 handles of Captain, and 1 handle of Tangueray and the bill was about $475. Hello?????? I think that's a pretty awesome deal. However, if you're looking to pick up just a *little* less booze, you may just want to go to your local store (if you're not in the Wheat Ridge area) because it's probably not worth the drive. What to say about this place that hasn't already been said? We are fans of this place for sure. Sadly, or happily, a lot of our hard earned cash goes here. It is a bit of a ride out there but even with high gas prices you still save money compared to the corner liquor stores. Also, I love their wines! You can find good wine, inexpensively and get to try new ones you wouldn't have normally come across. One drawback (other than the no credit cards thing) is the really narrow aisles. If you are a single person, fine but to have a grabby toddler or baby in the shopping cart could be super dangerous. Is it sad that I check in here at least once a weekend? I love Applejack. In the interest of full disclosure, I also love Total Beverage. I think I just love the giant liquor stores. After relocating a few years ago from PA, where liquor is completely controlled by the state and can only be purchased at state run stores (not open on Sundays), I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this place is downright cheap for the most part. I love the selection of on-sale wine directly in front of the door. I usually get sucked in and come out with a few things that weren't on my list. You know, like 5 or 6 more bottles of wine. But how can you not? It does get crowded on the weekends, and their prices on lot of the non-alcoholic options are a bit high, but overall I love the Applejack. read more

Applejack has a pretty wide variety of liquor. Came here to stock up for a trip to Breckenridge and I have to say that I was impressed with the selection but not fond of the prices. I'm from California, and prices on a lot of the hard liquor here, was about $10-18 more than what I'm used to. It was pretty shocking and definitely a huge turn off. The beer prices are decent but prices on vodka and others were on the high side (although, I'm not sure how Applejack prices compare to the other liquor stores in CO. I consider Applejack's to be the Home Depot of liquor stores. Nearly anything and everything you can imagine can be found under this roof. There are countless bottles of great wine at good prices. You can usually find a good price on various hard liquors too. And while in many cases the prices are good, you have to come in knowing what you want. I haven't really obtained much quality help in selecting a bottle of wine or scotch. Don't get me wrong. The people who work here are nice and want to help, but this isn't a boutique shop. Unless a distributor is on site at the time you are shopping, it is unlikely that the staff know much about the vast quantities of wine on the floor. There's just too much stuff, too many people shopping, and too much to do. But, again, if you know what you are looking for this is a great place to go. Looking for that rare, 25+ year bottle of scotch? It's probably here. It'll be in a locked display case if it is in the $125+ range, but it is likely to be here. Oh, and over the past year or so they started accepting credit cards; so, no need to worry about having forgotten your checkbook. read more

Best liquor store for wine in the city IMO. Their French selection isn't topped anywhere, and they've got one of the more inclusive American wine representations as well. I haven't really shopped for beer or liquor here since it's a heckuva drive from my house--we just go there for the wine. They also offer futures on wines if that's your kinda thing. Prices are very reasonable, and at times excellent. They didn't take credit cards a while back, but you could create a store credit account. I believe they also now take plastic as well, but I'm not positive. read more

Recently I purchased a case (12 bottles) of Prisoner wine (Saldo) as a result of an online page from Applejack for a case for $359.88. After purchasing the case in person with cash I was charged $388.91 for the case. I advised the cashier who tends to be surly that I was overcharged. She advised me that was not correct and that our business was concluded and "Get outta the line!". When I arrived home, I pulled up the pricing on the website which was clearly wrong and was clearly what they charged me. I sent an e-mail to Applejack. Within a day someone from the wine department responded that they loaded the prices incorrectly and requested that I come in in person to process the refund. Since I do not travel to that part of town often I requested that a credit be issued on a store card and mailed to me, especially in this day and age where everything is handled electronically except for the $500 cash I paid for my items. After several attempts back to the individual (KN) to try and confirm a refund arrangement there has never been any further response from Applejack. Next time I need bulk wine and beer for the end of the year, I'll travel to Davidsons in Littleton for a better selection and superior customer service. read more

Applejack is the Liquor Store that you go to when all other's fail you. Their beer, wine and spirits selection is unmatched by anywhere I have ever been. Tipsy's on C-470 and Bowles comes close, but I always have preferred Applejacks. If you have never been there, it is hard to describe the voluminous size of the store. I tell my friends that it's the size of a decent sized grocery store, with 25+ aisles full of wines and spirits of all types. There's a 100 ft wall of coolers full of beer and plenty more in the back room. The staff has always been more than helpful and willing to give their opinion. Before I lived in Denver, whenever I was in the area visiting my parents, I would always make the pilgrimage to Applejack's. There is nowhere best to stock up on Colorado Microbrews. read more

I love me some Applejack! It's convenient to my house, they have just about everything I need, and the scads of employees running around that place are (mostly) super helpful (see below). Their inventory is very well organized and I can usually find what I'm looking for on my own, but sometimes my wife sends me for wine and I get a little lost and confused with all of the choices. I'm a bourbon guy, not a wine-o. Checkout is always fast. So fast that the cashier is usually waiting on me to fumble through my wallet for payment longer than I was even in line for. 1 star off for the beer cooler worker that insists I don't know my own taste and that cans is the only way to drink beer. It's not. Cans is the only way for hipster dumbasses to drink beer, but for me, the added aluminum/metal/tin taste is a huge turnoff. And don't argue that "cans these days have a special liner!" Guess what? Bottles don't need a special liner, glass imparts no extra flavor notes of it's own and it's been around way longer than shitty, "specially lined" cans. Didn't Keystone/Keystone Light have specially lined cans? Didn't make that beer any better. I was looking for Old Style (You got a problem with that?) in bottles instead of cans, and this guy tells me that it's better in cans, anyway. Oh, so you know my preferences better than me, guy I just met 10 seconds ago? Ok thanks. Go to Applejack. Listen to the employees that help you find stuff. Ignore the one that tell you how your tastes are wrong. read more

Best selection and prices in town. Other stores are catching up on prices, but overall Applejack is still the best in the Denver area - you can probably get the same deals and maybe occasionally a better one elsewhere, but Applejack's prices will always be good....and they have. Every. Thing. Walking in the door, you are assaulted by about 100 different wines on sale - and that is just the tip of the iceberg that is the selection there. Large, popular store with the wine set. And for that, it's a pretty good bet. Although they definitely give the most space to American wine, they do have respectable aisles of French, Aussie, and Italian offerings as well. I once scored a half-dozen or so affordable but well-rated 2000 Bordeaux here on sale, some of which are considered mature already, so...time to break out my Coors pint glasses and give 'em a try! Just kidding, I don't have any Coors glasses...I only drink French wine the proper way, straight from the bottle. Unless their buyer has changed recently, beer geeks will be mostly bored with this place, so keep on going south to Davidson's (Holly & County Line) for that (or entirely elsewhere)...that's not the store's focus and it shows. But that's ok, 'cause that's not why people go to Applejack anyway...old beer (a common problem at alky-stores that aren't known for their beer) seemed apparent, especially with some of the obscure imports. The liquor selection is competent and respectable if nothing shocking, based on my last visit. Finding a really eye-opening liquor selection (and by that I mean good quality, not necessarily large) is pretty difficult. It seems like all stores have a particular focus or two in the liquor world (e.g., vodka or Scotch), so it's rare to find a one-stop shop for all your booze needs. But now for the bad news: the no-credit-cards policy. It is for that reason that I will quite likely never shop there again. I buy a fair amount of booze when I get around to doing a shopping trip, and having to pay with cash is absolutely ridiculous. I'm sure the owner has fiercely-held luddite beliefs to support his/her decision, but that just means they won't be getting my business, nor a strong recommendation to others. It's fine if the total bill is normally under $20 at such an establishment (such as Mountain Sun in Boulder, which is also anti-plastic), but that's virtually never the case with wine and liquor (unless Coors Light is indeed your drink of choice). And really, there are plenty of other places in Colorado with comparable selections and prices, so I'm really not missing anything anyway. read more

This place is my mecca. It has ruined all other liquor stores for me. There is such a huge selection here, and I love being a member of their email list. They recommend tons of great wine to me and it's always spot-on. I have one issue with this place, though. The wine is so unorganized. Well, at least I felt that way the first 2-3 times I came in. The selection here is phenomenal! the fact that I live 5 minutes away is just a bonus. Great craft beer selection, aisles upon aisles upon aisles of wine. Great prices on liquor too. I have to give huge Kudos to John who works there. This man is incredibly knowledgeable on his wine and whiskey. Whenever I can't decide he appears out of no where, I have my usual list of my price point today is, remember I don't like corporate vineyards and this is the palette I want.(I am a pain, I know). Applejack has great prices and probably the best selection of wine in Colorado. I have discovered a ton of different beers and liquors here. They sell cases of beer at literally a fraction of their wholesale cost. I have read that they will give you a free wine opener if you do a yelp check in. I appreciate any business that gives you free swag for check ins. They also have a frequent customer program, the e-mail specials are normally the best prices you can get in town. read more

I have stopped shopping with them based solely on their out of touch pricing. $65 for Makers Cask when I can get it for $38 at Highlands WineSeller. Every bourbon on their shelf is at least $5 higher than Davidson's or HW, and in most cases more than $10 higher. Plus sales-tax is 5% in Douglas County vs 8% at AJ.
