Honestly, I have such mixed feelings about AppleTree. I really liked the proximity of this dental office to my home so that made it an easy first choice when I moved to the area. Dr. Kang is a lovely human and overall very approachable - good at explaining things, really kind, feels like he takes his time with patients. And the office / patient spaces are really nicely done and clean. Generally, that's pretty much all you need in a dentist you only see a couple times a year. However, there are some big flags that are making me contemplate whether or not I need to find a new dentist. Flag #1: Every time I've gone in, the staff tries to pressure me into braces. It's cosmetic, has nothing to do with my health, and I'm happy with my teeth as they are. I've repeatedly said I don't want them and they still try to persuade me into it. It makes me feel less like a patient and more like a dollar sign. Flag #2: the office communications could be a lot better. My pets have vet offices with better follow-up and reminders. I had to reschedule an appointment and made sure to reach out in advance so that I wasn't taking a slot on their schedule that could go to someone else. I sent a message and left a voicemail. I never received any return messages, calls or emails confirming that they had cancelled my apptmt officially. I had to keep calling until I finally talked to a person to confirm that it was off the schedule. Flag #3: even as I try not to waste their time, they wasted my time. When I finally did go in for my rescheduled appointment for a routine teeth cleaning, they advised a different procedure but it would have to get re-routed to my insurance for approval and I could not get my cleaning as scheduled. (This was actually not a new request - after my LAST cleaning, they said they were going to check the insurance for it and it should have been done then. That was when I first learned about the procedure. Dr. Kang was surprised when I knew the name of it, but it was BECAUSE of my last appointment). 5-6 months later, I'm back in, I've taken time away from work, only to have gone in for nothing. It's now been almost 2 months since that appointment, and nothing but crickets about the reschedule and status of the procedure. I even called to check in, left a voicemail, and no call-back. So I am trying to justify it and do what I can to try to stick with AppleTree rather than going through the trouble of establishing care somewhere else. But I also can't keep trying to make ghost appointments that aren't going to happen. It shouldn't be like pulling teeth just to get a teeth cleaning read more

Few years ago I did my root canal treatment here. My crown was broken in less than 2 years and I went back for a replacement. I was told I had to pay for a full price and I left. Now, my molar got reinfected and needs to extract my tooth. Never do any root canal treatment here! read more

We've came to this dentist a few times and the customer service seems to get worse with each visit. We came in a few weeks ago and they said they only had time to do 1 cavity because it was later in the day. I didn't pick the appt time, they did so it was a little weird that they didn't plan that better. We came back another day and was not greeted or even looked at when we signed in. After waiting 20 minutes we asked if we needed to fill out any paperwork, she said no and to just wait. We get into a room and the tools they pull out don't look like anything we've seen at other dentists. Usually they open a sterile package with clean drills and tools. These were carried in on a dirty plastic holder (see picture). Concerned about the equipment we asked for new or at least clean ones. Their demeanor got worse and the responded that they would use them on their own mother. After that they stated that we would need a specialist and they couldn't fill the cavities. That is a pretty standard practice so clearly it was about the request for new tools. At that point we didn't want them to do the work anyways. We've never seen any medical/dental equipment look this worn or gross before! It could've been a completely different experience had they just been understanding. read more

I was meaning to get a wisdom tooth extraction + cleaning and I went to Bright Now Dental in Lake Elsinore first and they quoted me $1,700 with my insurance. I gave AppleTree Dental a call and they said they could do it for $50, which was wild. I'm not one to usually write reviews, but this was amazing. Liz over the phone was super considerate and welcoming, and when I came in, Dr. Kang was also amazing, calm, and gentle even when numbing my gums. I never do good with needles but I promise you I didn't even feel a thing. I felt like they did so much to help me (same day that I called, too) so I had to return the favor and leave a great review. I love them and I totally recommend them to anyone in the area, especially since I drove all the way out from Lake Elsinore. read more

This is long overdue! I've come to Dr Kang multiple times already. Doctor and all staff members, especially Liz, Erica, and I believe it was Heidi are all so kind and gentle! Dr Kang and Erica are always so attentive and making sure I'm okay and not in any pain. Doctor explains all the procedures before and while he's performing them. He recommends what's best and never tries to upsell anything unnecessary, unlike some other offices. I initially came for a cleaning and had some troubles with my insurance but Liz was so helpful in dealing with my insurance and doing her best to get approvals for the necessary procedures. I have been going there for about three years - thats about six times. I had good experience earlier as Dr. Mike took care of me and suggested couple of treatments that appear to help with my dental condition. However, last few visits have been disappointing. The cleaning has been not done with thorough care, I have come back home with tarter on my teeth. My last appointment was especially disappointing as it failed on multiple counts. 1. I arrived and they did not have record of my appointment. (I had text confirming appointment). They said they would take me in and I was taken in within 5 minutes. 2. Cleaning took about 8 minutes, which includes water jet scaling and prophylaxis (polishing), both. The hygienist went around gum line for scaling but totally did not go over the areas in-between teeth as I was feeling it with eyes closed. Note that typical time of such procedure over my last 23 years of experience is 30-60 minutes. 3. The computer was not turned on to check on prior notes or to take any notes. 4. Dentist did not come to check the work of the hygienist or to check condition of teeth. This is a standard procedure. 5. I came home without complaining, checked my teeth in the mirror and found slight tartar on couple of places. This was second time I observed and called the office to explain the experience. Before 3:45 PM and the call went to voicemail (should be far from office close). I left a voice message requesting to talk to the dentist. 5. A day has passed and no callback from office. I was hoping I can continue using their service with future assurance as they are close to my home. However, with appointment blunder, poor service and lack of feedback loop the the doctor, I felt the need to post the review and search for my next option. I have a long history of avoiding Dentists until the very end of a tooth due to my teeth roots are exceptionally long which makes the work difficult for the dentists, and this has resulted in shoddy work and lots of pain. Also, several dentists in the past have overcharged, or pushed unnecessary root canals and crowns at high prices which would fail as the tooth was never able to be saved. Dr. Kang, and the team at Appletree Dental, have been amazing!! Dr. Kang not only removed a cracked and, unknown to me, infected root canal, (failed twice in the first 4 months), which never should have been done. Dr. Kang says, "I do not practice heroic dentistry. I do what works." Dr. Kang filled 8 cavities (yeah, I know!), deep cleaned under my gums, and grafted bone to my jaw for an implant. He never started any work without my confirming I was completely numb in the area, and he stopped so many times without complaining when I would ask for a break (I have really bad TMJ). He even noticed and filled a pinpoint cavity the x-rays missed while he was working on another tooth!! He knows his craft, and is highly skilled. Appletree Dental was able to get everything but the implant covered under my insurance, but they charged me such a low price it was CHEAPER than the root canal and crown I originally had!!
