I always suspected this dentist was not all he appears to be, but I couldn't prove it until now. He has too many positive reviews for the area, the place is a hole in the wall in one of the worst areas of Anaheim (it's next door to a $100 jack shack called lol massage and a 7-11) with outdated equipment and a staff that you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. The best way to describe one of them is a walking refrigerator on cans. I had seen him in the past, several years ago, and he didn't do a great job. I regarded him as being quick and too gentle about it. Germs are realistic, they hide in places that he doesn't want to go. My regular hygienist is digging holes, going to town with the ultrasonic scaler, while this guy's like 'meh'. But I had an approval for a deep cleaning and wanted to see if he would do it. Despite the reviews leading you to think he's God's gift to west Anaheim, I was able to see him the next morning. He checked out my insurance, took a few x-rays, some pictures, didn't perform a routine gum measurement aka "periodontal charting" (they're mostly 5's and 6's, anything over a 3 is bad), and said "You don't need a deep cleaning, goodbye". But what he didn't know is that my other dentist already assessed my condition as qualifying for not only a scaling/root planing (aka a deep cleaning), but also an approval for cleanings every three months for the next year. And this is from caloptima, our state's public insurance. Not easy to get an approval because of the cost. My current condition is pretty bad. I had a regular cleaning about two months ago and due to some setbacks, had to postpone. My gums will not stop bleeding after flossing and trying to build tolerance, there's always a nasty taste in my mouth and it feels pretty rotten. He doesn't know about this because he didn't ask. Our conversation was minimal. My hunch: A lot of these reviews are fakes, the pictures are inflated and/or he discriminates based on what insurance the patient has, and/or he takes easy jobs. In either case, he decided I wasn't worth his time and cut me loose. There's a joke floating around that "nobody wants to work anymore" but in his case, it's actually true. The least amount of work for the most money, end result being an antiquated notion. The other thing that irritated me is their resident lunkhead called me two hours before my appointment, like a babysitter or something. Attached are the notes from my hygienist that I've been seeing since 2010 (for those keeping notes, that's 14 years and counting). I came into Cal Dental to get my mom checked due to an infection on her lower right tooth. The assistants were very welcoming and very polite. Going in my mom was in tremendous uncomfortable with a swollen cheek and not being able to eat. Dr. Jun was truly an Angel. Turned out after getting X-rays done mom had an infection in 3 teeth. He let us know it was urgent and extracting all three would be the best option. He was very patient and very caring while taking care of my mom. Mom was at the point of starting to forget things and had a lot of confusion and not much concentration. I then read that those are symptoms of teeth infections. Although she was in pain because of three extractions she in fact kissed his hand for being so kind. I was having really bad pain one morning on a sunday and freaking out cuz i thought my tooth was abscessing. I looked them up and gave them a call and the girls up front are so amazing, they are professional and so nice. They scheduled a few days later to get me as soon as they could. Moments later they call back and tell me they have a cancellation and they can get me in within a couple hours!! Of course i accept. I hit traffic due to a train coming off beach, i was late and they were totally understanding. I didnt wait long and the girls in person were even better. Came to this dentist to get a cleaning because I hadn't been to the dentist in a while. I learned that I had impacted wisdom teeth so I had them removed here one side at a time (my choice). I felt no pain in the process of my removal and the doctor was really attentive to make sure I was comfortable at all times. I grew up scared of the dentist but with Dr. Yang it's a no judge zone. I am currently doing Invisalign at this dentist and it's an easy process! I come in once a month so the doctor can check my attachments and I receive two trays at a time. I appreciate how the staff took my concerns seriously and attempted to fix the experience. They can't change what I experienced but they can definitely change how others experience their dental service. The manager informed me that he talked with the dentist and that they weren't aware of this problem until now. He said they will be making the necessary steps for the betterment of the future clients. I hope they do what they said they would do and that the dentist does make the changes he needs to do so patients don't go through the same negative experience I did. I had been to two other dentists regarding my wisdom teeth-they'd been bothering me for a while...and the first one was wayyy too pricey (I know several friends in this industry who advised I get a second opinion) and the second one thought it could still be put off and recommended a cleaning.
