I've been coming to First Dental Care for 10 years and can't recommend this practice enough. This review is long overdue! Every time I visit this office, I feel extremely comfortable and at ease, which is hard to say for most dental offices. Dr. Kim is incredibly friendly and professional, always taking the time to explain everything and answering any questions or concerns I have. He even offers simple, practical tips I can do at home to maintain healthy teeth. Esmyra, the dental hygienist, is very gentle yet thorough in her cleanings and also patiently explains excellent home care tips. I never feel rushed by either practitioners during my visits, but I am still taken care of in an efficient and timely manner. ​I also want to give a shoutout to the rest of the team - from the assistants to the xray technicians - who have all been very kind and professional. We went when my son had an extra tooth growing behind his front two teeth. I could tell that Dr. Kim and Dr. Nguyen were not just out to collect money, but they cared about my son's overall dental health and readiness for the procedure. They monitored the situation for about a year (we went in about 6 months after our first appointment to check) before Dr. Kim extracted the extra tooth. It was a monster tooth, but Dr. Kim was so gentle with my 6 year old. He is a wizard with the numbing needle- my son didn't even know what was happening until Dr. Kim was done numbing his mouth because he didn't feel a thing! That tooth was huge, so it took a few pulls, but Dr. Kim was encouraging and calming him during the whole process. Recovery was a charm, as well- I feel like that was due to just the efficiency and minimal invasiveness of the whole procedure. I have been going to First Dental Care for more than 8 years. I'm 82, and trust me, I have had lots of dental work done during my lifetime. Dr Kim has got to be the top dentist that I've ever had work on my teeth. He takes his time, and make sure that any dental work is done 100% right. I recall one time I had a crown come in, and when he put it in place in my mouth, he said he didn't like the way it fit, so he sent it back to have it redone. Another thing I really like about him, is that he's always up to date on the latest dental procedures and equipment. I had been going to this dentist for a couple of years. Originally I had a hygienist who cleaned my teeth and would have me come in every 3 to 4 months. After she left I noticed that every time I came in for a check up I needed a deep cleaning and for my entire mouth. My routine had not changed and I always flossed, used an electric toothbrush and mouth wash. I asked what areas of my mouth needed deep cleaning, and the dentist just said that your insurance covers two deep cleanings a year and it is to help maintain your teeth. I proceeded to have a deep cleaning from a new hygienist and he mentioned that my teeth were already clean. I do not like getting numbed in four areas of my mouth I dont wish to avoid getting a deep cleaning if I dont have to. I have found a new dentist and I have not needed to have a deep cleaning in the past 4 years since ive switched dentist. This place is a scam! Avoid at all cost! read more

This is the first yelp review I've ever written. Unfortunately, it is a horrifying experience that compels me to write it and I write it mainly as a forewarning to anyone considering going here. My mother went in for a molar extraction that had been bothering her, it was supposed to be a simple procedure. Instead, in complete negligence, they extracted the wrong tooth! But not only did they take out a tooth that was fine but they cut through her front bridge and extracted one of the teeth that was used for support, leaving her with a loose bridge. If this bridge is to fall off she will be left with all four front teeth missing. When we complained to them for the mishap they completely denied responsibility and refused to remedy their mistake. Oh boy where do I begin... hahaha I LOVE FIRST DENTAL!! I know the thought of getting your wisdom teeth/tooth may be terrifying and watching Youtube videos of the surgery does not help... LOL but to be honest, watching the videos did not bother me much and the process was a piece of cake. I was very fortunate to have Dr. Harold Choi perform my extractions. HE IS THE GREATEST. Did I mention he was theeeeee best hahaa ;)!!! I came in for the typical consultation and I was informed of the procedure and the medical staff(s) answered any questions I had and I also received information on post-operative care. I chose to do the local anesthesia, cause going under general anesthesia scares me (personally, I will NEVER choose to do it this way) and the process took no longer than 15-20 mins and I was up and going after the surgery :)) I had two impacted, full bony wisdom teeth extracted and I am glad they are gone. I arrived to my appointment about 10 minutes earlier to complete paper work and was taking my x rays quickly! I feel like 2 stars is fairly generous, but I'll give the place the benefit of the doubt since I didn't make it to actually sitting down with the DDS or the hygienist due to apparent lack of professionalism on behalf of the people I dealt with before and terminated my appointment early. Got a call a couple of hours before my 1st appointment time letting me know that I won't be able to get the cleaning done that day since they don't know what type of cleaning I'll need. Never had that issue before, I told them it was just a periodic cleaning for every 6 months and that I'd prefer not to set a 2nd appointment and take more time off work to go. That didn't help, instead I was asked to provide my insurance information over the phone. I guess that the assumption was that they already earned my business. I show up, the location is pretty sketchy, in a strip mall where the only other apparently open business is a liquor store. Oh well, I go in, fill out my information at the counter. Any questions I had, and asked one of the receptionists, were answered reluctantly, at best. For example, there's a form to affirm that you received and read a privacy notice. The privacy notice was not provided with the paperwork and the woman looked confused for a bit when I asked to see it before finding it tucked away under the counter. I pointed out a typo on one of the forms and got an "oh it's okay" back. I'm not the one that made the typo, of course that part is okay, but 0 effort to make a note of it to fix later. Small details, but I believe in taking pride in your work. Entire time, while I was at the front desk, another receptionist was apparently trying to input someone's insurance information over the phone with speaker phone on. MeanwhileIf I was inclined to steal personal information, I could've just written down the name off the speaker and looked down at the digits for birthday and insurance number. Finally went in to get an x-ray done. Apparently the technician is new (still in training?). First time I had the radiation emitting tube pointed at my eyeball instead of my mouth, I pointed out that it didn't quite seem right. Two x-rays later, she managed to leave her finger between my teeth after telling me to bite down, and luckily I didn't bite down hard... At some point, she flagged down someone else outside the x-ray room to ask some questions, as she seemed confused. read more

The staff is friendly, office clean, and most work well with children, so that is a plus. I rate this place low and for very specific reasons and I personally would never being my daughter back here again. First of all, as a thorough Yelp reviewer...I review when I want to applaude a business for exceptional work or services or when the service was so bad I feel the need to warn future patrons. That being said...this is a warning!! 1. I don't believe businesses should bribe people for reviews...I choose this place based on reviews only to find out when I arrive that they give you 10% off dental services for leaving a Yelp review! Sign very clear right when you enter the waitng room. Are you kidding me? Well of course you'll have lots of good reviews for using discounts to bribe a customer to leave a review for 10% off of dental services..that can be a huge savings for cash patients.. we're not talking about a $2 off a $20 meal here. 2. My daughter was scheduled for 2 hours of work.. in which they were going to do as much as they can and schedule other sessions after that. She ended up there for 4 hours, causing me to be late to work at that. An adult cant even handle that much teeth work...on top of that, they had "lost" all the xrays that were previously taken and had to retake them again. The dentist was great in trying her best to calm her down, but they restrain the children, don't let the parents in the room and my poor daughter was tired and over it in the 3rd hour, you can hear her crying in exhaustion . Yet they kept on working on her. Due to all the work done, she had swollen cheeks for over a week and a canker sore the size of a large pea on her cheek, where she couldn't eat nor drink thru a straw for several days. 3. Our return visit...not bad, but there always seems to be a mis-communication between doctors in the "doctor notes" I was told she had 5 more teeth to work on for this 2nd visit. Then during her appt. I was told oh there's not 2 but 3 teeth that needed to be worked on. When I mentioned that I already knew that there were 3 teeth that needed to be root canaled and 2 small cavities..they looked at me like they had no idea what I was talking about, that they just "discovered" 3 teeth and they don't know what other 2 teeth I was talking about? As I'm writing this, I realized my daughter's front tooth that was giving her problems, hasn't even been touched...most likely one of the other 2 teeth that should have been worked on. Which means another trip soon...but definitely not to this dentist practice. So this is my experience...precede with caution, I just feel that they lack the care and caution in paperwork to run a better practice and lack good records to avoid mistakes or do a thorough job. I wouldn't be surprised if they worked on the wrong teeth, honestly. Oh and even after all that work, they don't even have pain or anti inflammatory medicine to give the children.. which I think is torture on the child as well. read more

The entire staff was very pleasant and attentive and Dr. Kim just seems like a very genuine and knowledgable guy. I took my daughter here last year for her first dental appointment ever. She's now three and they handled the "first-time-toddler" like pro's! They took my little one to a special room in the back filled with stickers and toys for her to look at, and they made her feel comfortable and happy the entire time. In fact, she didn't want to leave! Lol. After her appointment they gave her a toy, and made her first dental experience one to remember. While I was there I realized they are a family dentistry, so I could get treated there too. Fast forward one year, I'm having some discomfort so I call to make an app. From the very first phone call I already knew they would be AMAZING. Their staff is well informed and professional, but also personable and VERY kind. I got there and there was not much wait. I got thorough X-Rays done and they have top of the line equipment all the way through. Their staff was just as nice in persona as they had been on the phone. So, a year later, their standards were still HIGH and the quality of service was still the same - thumbs up and one star right there! I wasn't seen by Dr. Kim right away, but did talk to one of his assisting dentists, who shared with me what was happening to my teeth and all the work I needed to get done. What I loved is that she said, "we don't have to treat this one tooth now if you don't want to, it can wait until you feel like it's truly a problem." Wwhhaaattt?! They're not trying to do stuff just to get ma monays?!? Hahaha - second star right there baby! After a full assessment of my situation, the manager, Grace, who is AMAZING, walked me through all my options from the most expensive to the most cost effective and showed me the benefits and cons of each. She said it was my choice to make and that they offered payment plans with Care Credit - third and fourth star right there. Dr. Kim walked in at that point and shared with me his experience and what he would do with one particular situation, but again, he said there's no rush. I was super thrilled to hear from him because he knows his stuff. So confident and so nice. You can tell he loves his work and there's nothing but honesty and good vibes at that place - 5 stars! Dr. Kim, glad to have this guy as my primary dentist from now on. All these years I've been going to subpar dentists to work on my teeth. I've had a number of failed crowns and busted fillings. I think I can trust this guy, even threw in a free teeth cleaning for my crown replacement. Previous doc f'd it up and was growing cavities in between my crown and actual teeth. Dr kim fixed it painlessly and easily. He has a whole team doing different things to you but the main procedure done himself only. He's got a bit of a belly which makes him pretty jolly. I was expecting a ton of pain but Santa brought me no pain crown replacement. read more
