I'm a licensed architect and have been specifying and ordering appliances for over 30 years. My…read moreexperience with House of Appliances has been the worst I've had in my entire career. I did everything possible to avoid issues -- I confirmed timelines with my salesperson, Drew, to avoid a price increase and followed up with a call. Despite that, my quote increased. After some back and forth, they did honor the original price -- but the problems didn't stop there. Drew failed to place the order, even though I had submitted it and paid in full. That delay caused major availability issues, forcing me to purchase a more expensive microwave just to stay on schedule. When I needed to change one appliance, it took weeks just to get an updated proposal. I shared my install deadline well in advance, because I had out-of-town carpenters coming specifically to install the appliance panels. House of Appliances never got back to me in time, and I missed the window. Now I have to pay extra to get the panels installed later. To make matters worse, the refrigerator drawers and wine refrigerator arrived damaged. I was told they could be repaired -- but I paid full price, and I will not accept repaired appliances. These units are required for my Certificate of Occupancy and panel installation, and I still have no resolution. I even contacted a manager and have yet to receive any help. This kind of service is unacceptable.

Unfortunately, when we explained the purpose of our visit, the salesperson, Drew Meltz, informed us that we could not purchase appliances in Florida and have them shipped to Vermont. Right. We asked if we could still browse their showroom. Drew immediately welcomed us and then proceeded to spend nearly an hour going over all the appliances we were looking for: ovens, dishwasher, refrigerator, etc. All the while knowing there would be no eventual sale. Drew Meltz is the best appliance salesperson we have ever met, hands down. He is supremely knowledgeable about his products, patient, cordial and a real pleasure to work with. And their store, is superior to any of the many other stores we have been visiting. Five enthusiastic stars for Drew and the House of Appliances. Steve and Evelene Lakis

Showed more interest in the long term results of our patio than the 4 other companies suggested through our Yelp Project search. The value provided in both customer service & work was above average. These guys are top notch! We requested a patio screen repair through the Yelp project option. Their response time was good. But, their foresight with the project really separated them from the competition. They not only wanted to do a good job, but they gave us options (color samples, screw types, screen types, repair choices, etc). &, They let us know what they thought would last the longest. Their work was delayed due to bad weather & they worked around it - even coming on a holiday to make sure the project was completed on time. It was one of better home project experiences we've had since we bought our home in 2011. I wish these guys much success. They do great work!

Coldzone came out & spent less than 20-minutes 'fixing it'! The repairperson told me it would take 24-hours for ice to be made. After 24-hours... nothing! After 48-hours... nothing! For the next two weeks, SHW gave me the runaround. They initially gave Coldzone the go-ahead to order & install a new ice maker. When Coldzone got the new ice maker SHW then denied the ice maker was covered by my top-of-the-line coverage claiming my ice maker was an after-market addition. Even after I sent them the section in my policy that expressly says they cover ice makers and pictures of the ice maker & and door dispenser for ice & ice water they denied it's! That's when I sent complaints against SHW to the State & Federal Consumer Affairs Departments & the Better Business Bureau! ENTER BIG AL'S APPLIANCE REPAIR. On December 30th I went to 'Angi's' App. looking for a local company to fix my ice maker. Immediately I was given the name of 4 local companies that repaired ice makers. Big Al's Appliance Repair had the greatest number of 5-star ratings so I called them. I was expecting them to tell me someone would be out sometime after New Years. Instead, I was told Al would stop by between 4 & 6 pm that afternoon... and he did. Al was at my front door at 5:35 pm on the 30th with his tool cart. He came in, checked out my ice maker and showed me the problem... I needed a new unit. The diagnostic fee he charged was waived because I told him to go ahead & order a new one. I expected him to tell me he would return sometime after the 1st of the year and again I was wrong. He told me he would be able to install a new ice maker the very next day. At approximately 12:15 pm he was at my front door with his tool cart and my new ice maker. By 12:50 he had replaced my ice maker & it was making ice. Once again he again explained & showed me what he had to do to install the new ice maker and get it working! The total cost was very reasonable and Al, unlike the Coldzone Repairman, left the work area spotless. I already told Big Al he was now my go-to appliance repairman and will refer any & all friends & relatives who need appliances repaired to Big Al's Appliance Repair.

I went to Walmart, Kmart, Target, Lowe's, Home Depot, and more. Nobody had the right size. I have another newer vacuum cleaner but the Eureka is lighter and does s great job on crevices and furniture. I looked up vacuum cleaner shops. Most weren't close. Then I saw Charlie Vacs. A small shop, not far from home. I called and the person who answered the phone said to bring in the old bag and he would try to match it. I went there with the old bag and I left the shop with new bags. The price was very reasonable. Recently my upright wasn't working right. I took the whole vacuum to Charlie Vacs. The proprietor checked my vacuum cleaner and found that the problem was the belt was broken. He put in a new belt and a few minutes later I had a working upright vacuum cleaner. I paid for the belt but he didn't charge me for checking the vacuum or putting on the new bag. The people working there are very nice and go out ot their way to be helpful. I highly recommend them.

He removed the switch by taking two small screws out and the switch came right out. He got it running temporarily and finished vacuuming. The switch just moved back and forth without clicking on or off. So I took my vacuum to Charlie Vacs. I came in the front door and a man came out from the back. He said: "How can I help you?" I said:"I think I need a new switch." The man moved the switch back and forth and said:"I can fix it for 23 dollars." I said: "I'll have to ask my wife if she wants to spend that much." He said:"It costs that because I'll have to take the vacuum completely apart from top to bottom. It's mostly labor." I said: " A man that does some work for me took the switch out in one minute. There are just two small screws that hold it in." He said: "Well then, why don't you have him fix it for you?" I said: "Well, can you sell me the switch?" The man went in the back and returned with a small on/off switch. He said: " That'll be $10.70 with tax." I paid in cash, took the switch and left. He said "Thank you, my friend" as I was leaving. I returned home, gave the switch to my friend, Eric and he had the vacuum running perfectly in five minutes.

You'll get a call when they're on their way, they arrive on time and, in most cases, make the repair on the first service call (unless parts need to be ordered). I highly reommend A-1 Appliance & Refrigeration.

This 82 year-old man the owner Fred shows up at my house to diagnose my 48 inch GE monogram refrigerator freezer. He spent less than five minutes took out one screw removed a screen and put his hand on the compressor and told me I need a new compressor. Right away he said he recommend me just to buy a new refrigerator. I told him that's out of the question! Refrigerator is less than five years old and is over $12,000. he said he doesn't even do that type of work and he said he can send a guy that will do it for $2200 for just a compressor or to change with the other parts he recommended would be $4000. He then proceeded to talk for 30 minutes about his family and brag about what he's done and how many houses he bought and sold and how much money he's made for more than a half an hour annoying me more than ever. Let me tell you, I didn't trust him from the beginning after I seen all that he did to diagnose the fridge and spend less than five minutes to tell me to get a new refrigerator. Like other people say in the reviews, they think he just like coming out to get paid for the diagnosis which he doesn't even do right. After annoying me for over 30 minutes just talking about him and his family and what he's accomplished and what his kids accomplished. He told me it's $120 service call and recommends me to buy a new fridge. He packed up his little toolbox with no tools in it maybe a screwdriver and a hammer no real diagnostic tools. After he left, I didn't feel comfortable with his diagnostic so I decided to do a little research on the Internet and find out other causes. I've then decided to clean the coils & after I was finished my refrigerator worked perfect and it's been going on 48 hours and no issues at all. Besides not knowing what he's doing he will annoy you as he just talks and brags about everything he's accomplished & at that time I was in no mood to hear his bull. I'm not one for reviews, but I had to write this one as I feel this guy needs to go out of business, retire or die. If I would've listened to him, I would've spent a minimal of $2200. Please take my word. You will regret hiring Fred. I rate F- and that's being nice. Reviews tell it all so please listen to these reviews!
