I went through the drive-thru and it was confusing, I didn't hear anyone on the speak so I just pulled forward. It did take about 20 minutes to get to the window, but this was lunch hour. My fiancé has picked up from here a few times now, and after trying it, we finally feel confident leaving a review! It first caught his attention because it was so busy (he says it always is), so he decided to try the drive-thru and they were quick! We live across town, and both times he's brought it home, the food has still been piping hot. Everything we've tried has been delicious (see pics!). The general chicken is spicy and delish. Although lunchtime brings a packed house, IMO, the food was just ok. I ordered the Orange Chicken lunch special and will not get it again. The portion was plentiful but the taste was disappointing. After seeing this place for years we finally decided to stop in and give it a try. The interior is a little dated, but gave me the feeling that the food would be good, like a hole in the wall. My daughter accidentally spilled her soup and the waiter came over quickly and helped clean up. He even brought her another soup, no charge. The servings were so much that we had leftovers. Nope. Unfortunately, this was not up my alley. Very sketchy location but that never turns me away. While I was ordering at the drive thru a homeless person was knocking at my window asking for $$. They have a great selection here at April's. I had the General Two's dinner special with fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup. My husband had the almond chicken, fried rice, egg roll and wonton soup. The soups and egg roll were delicious. Would return for those. The main dishes were okay. The rice didn't seem fried, it looked steamed. It had a some egg and veggies, but not the amount I think of when I think of fried rice. The General Tso's sauce was different than any I've tasted before. I'm used to it being a little stickier and packed with flavor. This wasn't unpleasant. I ate it. But what it is is fast, cheap, and reliable Chinese food that not only delivers but also has a drive-thru. Having been working and living in Southtown for quite some time now, I find myself relying on April's when I need a quick and cheap lunch run. My favorite item is the Sauteed String Beans (L. 44 on lunch menu). I like to order them extra spicy; it doesn't come out unbearable but it adds a nice extra layer of flavor. Lunch specials come with choice of soup, rice, and then egg roll or crab rangoon and comes in at under $7. I always leave quite satiated but never over stuffed. Dining in is pretty straight-froward. Come in and find a table and a server takes care of you. We have always had good experiences w/ servers and when they got a side item wrong they immediately rectified the issue. Once you've finished your meal just make your way to the register and you can pay and head on your way. So there you have it-need a no frills and consistent lunch that's light on your waistline and wallet? Look no further than April's to meet that need. The food was hot and served really quickly. Plus, the waiter who took our order was super nice. We started off with the appetizer sampler which had fried chicken, shrimp, eggrolls, rangoons, and spare ribs. It was pretty decent! The best thing on the plate was the eggrolls. For our entrees, I got the broccoli beef with steamed rice, and my husband got the orange chicken. The orange chicken was actually really good! It was a little spicy and the chicken was juicy. The food is ok. I prefer their Weikei location, I learned they are the same owners. The inside of this restaurant does not look well cleaned/organized. I ordered chicken and lo Mei and ate maybe 1/4 of the plate. There were only 2 servers for about 10 tables and 1 of the servers was also managing the cash register. I waited for a refill for about ten minutes and had to remind the server that he took my cup. They definitely need more staff. I don't think I'd come back to dine in but maybe for takeout. The tea was delicious I'm super picky. If you have tried China rose on military Aprils is not as flavorful. Over all I'd give the combination rice a 7/10. I would come back to try again. If you have a picky spouse with no onion in Rangoon this is your to go place. Rangoons were crispy golden brown and super fresh it makes my mouth waterService and sever were great. Just came from April's for lunch and it was awful. Found hair in the rice and they begrudgingly replaced. Initially, they just took off the hair. But when we said something then they replaced the food. Waiter had the biggest attitude I've seen. Basically throwing our plates on the table. Rolling his eyes when we were ordering and asking for drink refills. The good thing is I have one less decision to make on where to eat for lunch because I'm never going back. read more

This place was on my radar as it always appears to be so busy. It was the first time I tried this place. And likely the last. My first mistake was to order on the inside. I always judge a place by its windows and how well the place is maintained. Short answer. It isn't. I honestly don't believe SA health department has ever made a stop at this place (if such a place exists). But again it is San Antonio. This city is not exactly known for its high standards (honestly, it's just Mexico in Texas). The copious number of flies inside gave the place an authentic Chinese street food feel. I promised to give the food a try and not be too much of a brat. I prayed. And then tasted the orange chicken that lacked any hint of flavor and the fried rice that came with said orange chicken was also void of even a grain of salt.
