I was headed to Atascadero for the weekend and on the drive down from San Francisco my car malfunctioned and engaged the stability system . I was unfamiliar with that system but Robert took the time to ensure that a diagnostic was run and then explained to me exactly what happened and what to do if it ever happened again! I've known for a while I needed to have my car diagnosed, check engine light, other little issues. I put it off b/c I just didn't have the money to do anything. Not only did they diagnose for FREE but supported the fact that the repair costs (double catalytic failure to start) outweighed the value of the car AND offered to diagnose for free a replacement vehicle if I buy used. I recently took my truck in for service to get brakes done. An whole they were in process of doing it they gave my truck a good through check through an found a few things that I needed to address. The service manager Jesse Holiday was on top of things an gave me a call to let me know that I needed a few things fixed. The prices were very reasonable. I was told it would take a half day to fix an got it done just under the time set. I would definitely be taking my vehicles there from now on. My husband and I have been going to APS for years. We are now moving away so I thought since it's so hard to find a good mechanic, I'd share how great this shop is. Robert, the owner, is very honest, professional and friendly. He'll work with you and will make time for you. He's the best mechanic we've ever found and I hope to find someone as good when we move. His prices are very fair and he won't try to rip you off by finding things wrong with the car. We took our CRV in one time because it was making an odd noise and he took a drive with us only to tell us it just needs more air in the tires (obviously I know nothing about cars). He added air himself and didn't charge us a thing to check out the car or add air. We also have an old corolla and he never tried to come up with things to fix like a previous mechanic had. His prices have always been very fair - lower than what we had previously paid for in San Diego. Great mechanic. We live in SLO and would drive up to Atascadero to drop off our cars because - let's face it - it's like finding gold when you find a mechanic you can trust - RARE. I have to post about the incredible experience I had with Robert at APS!! I was on my way home to Manteca from Santa Maria when my car began to lose power and would not excel past 60 mph while I was on the 101 with my 8 year old twins in the backseat. It was getting dark and I was pretty stressed out. I had to pull off and get a hotel since I was 3.5 hours away from home and it was late on a Sunday evening. I reached out to APS via Yelp messenger (based on all the awesome reviews I read) and the Business owner, Robert, responded promptly and reassured me that he would be able to see me first thing in the morning. My car ended up needing a new engine due to known issues with Kia Optima. Although it was the worst case scenario, Robert was so kind and helpful. He contacted Kia for me, he made sure I would be taken care of there and Kia guaranteed that they would be replacing my engine under a lifetime warranty. Kia also ended up giving me a car so that me and my children could make it home. Although it was a very difficult situation, everyone was so kind and accommodating and me my babies made it home safe and sound. Thank you Robert and APS for being so kind and reassuring through this whole experience. read more

I absolutely love this place. Robert has been fixing my car over 5 years now and there have been a couple times I was over quoted, once by a few hundred, and he charged me how much it actually was, even when I wouldn't have known any different. His integrity is truly upstanding. The customer service I receive is always exceptional and they will take the time to explain everything to you if you want or need them to. I used to be so worried looking for a mechanic because once they "fixed" the problem, something else would go wrong, but this has never been the case here. I came here based on this operation's excellent Yelp reviews and they have diagnostic equipment needed to analyze Volvo OBDII signals. My vehicle had recently been having great difficulty getting all its "monitors" going in preparation for a smog check. I stopped by and was helped quickly and was given the great news that all monitors were now fine. I asked for a smog check to proceed and was informed (on President's Day) that their smog guy was not in that day. I was not charged anything but was informed that Mike Dean's across the street could see me soon. I was pleased and greatly appreciated this great solution to my need to get smog check done ASAP. We were driving from Pismo towards home when the jeep broke down. We knew we had to replace the radiator (long story) we had the car towed to atascadero when our tow truck driver asked us to trust him and take it to an honest guy he knows and has worked with. Best decision ever. They had the parts there (went to get them) and started working on it immediately. We had to get picked up and go back the next day since our money was at home, but when we got back, they had our jeep covered with a tarp, and all our camping stuff, still there. I even had money in the glove box they never touched. Honest, reliable, if I was a local they would be my go to guys. read more

No wonder they have such good reviews! This was one of the few shops open and they had really good reviews. I called Robert and he could not have been more warm and friendly. He said that he did work in Mercedes and had the computer to check codes. He even promised not to charge us to run the codes. We had to drive 20 minutes, but it was well worth it. He checked the code, explained the reading and assured us that it would run just fine. He made us aware of what the code probably meant in case the light came on again. I took my car in this week for the first time based on the Yelp reviews. I'm very pleased. Here is why: I had a check engine light that came back with three error codes: 1) running rich, 2) bad right catalytic converter, 3) bad left catalytic converter. I needed the car smogged so I needed this fixed. Instead of moving forward with a VERY EXPENSIVE repair, Scott recommended we make the simple repair that fixed the running rich problem, drive it a bit, and see if the check engine light comes back on. He said there was a chance the first problem caused the catalytic converters to throw their error codes. Scott was right, the car is fine, and the total repair cost $64. It is clear to me based on my experience their focus was on serving the customer and not their own pockets. APS Auto is my new auto mechanic. read more

Dishonest & unprofessional staff! My car ran well but had a warning display msg that reads "check hybrid system," which was obviously related to some battery issue. I took it to this place and ASKED if they REPAIR hybrid cars, they assured me that is an easy fix. Few hours later, they called me stating they were unable to fix it & suggested taking it to Toyota dealership. They still charged me for diagnostic test even though they weren't able to fix the issue. The problem doesn't end here. On my way to SLO Toyota dealership, they called again to inform me that some guy who used to work for Toyota can fix the car the same day at my place and I shouldn't take it to the dealership. Since I was in disbelief of what I heard on the phone, I had the person, a middle-aged white man at the front desk, repeat his statement that reads "we care about our customers and want to save you money. I gave your phone number & address to this guy, a former Toyota mechanic, who will call you today; he can fix your car at your place. Consequently, I returned back home excitingly that the car will finally gets fixed today especially that I had a job interview in Bakersfield the next morning. I waited for 2 & 1/2 hrs before I called back to make sure the mechanic was on his way to my place. The same man answered "yes, let me call you back after I talk to him, ok!" I waited for until 8pm but there was NO call...NO show and the car didn't get fixed. I was charged $$ for being lied to and time-wasting!!! read more

I took my truck in for oil leaks instead of repairing them they made them worse, after they got through with the truck the transmission wasn't shifting properly and my engine was burned up. Robert Davis is certainly a talker but behind that Personna is a crook, I took my truck to Mike's automotive a real mechanic, he had to install a new engine new transmission because of the stupidity and ignorance of APS. I would not recommend anybody to take their cars or trucks there! They tell you something is wrong with it when there's not, just to boost their invoices which equals profits It's better to take your cars or trucks to Mike Automotive he's a real certified mechanic and he would not rip you off. read more
