Haven't been to Apsara in 4 years, and not much has changed really. Went yesterday for the same old: veggie nime chow and tofu bee boong. Only this time did it occur to me that there is coconut cream in my noodles, so good. True on the other comments, huge portions and low prices. Wish I could take this restaurant with me out west, have a little bit of home down the street. At least it is a reason to come back east. Singapore noodle and bangkok crispy noodle were awesome as well. read more

This is the ORIGINAL Apsara, not to be confused with Apsara Palace on Hope Street on the East Side. Apsara is located in not such a grand area of the city, the building is a little run down looking, the interior looks a bit greasy and dirty. Service? Meh. Nothing to write home about. Food? This is my first time dining in in about 10 years and we had a great time. First of all, it's a much nicer space than I remember...it looks like it was updated recently and it's very clean and nicely decorated. All the tables have colorful tablecloths and a nice assortment of condiments in place. The service is very friendly and efficient and the food comes out very fast. And there's a pot of tea when you sit down, which on a chilly October night like tonight was very welcome. I'd definitely recommend eating there rather than takeout. The food is delicious no matter what, but getting it hot from the kitchen, seeing the nice presentations, and having the dishes with the delicious accompanying garnishes is worth it. What I absolutely love: Hae Kainge...my FAVORITE! It's a steamed then fried bean curd wrap with ground pork, onion, scallion, and cilantro. I get it every time. So crispy and satisfying. When you get it for takeout, you don't get the garnish of a carrot and cucumber salad, which is such a nice contrast. If I could only get one thing, this would be it. Nime chow Scallion pancake Steamed Peking ravioli Crab rangoon Lort Steamed pork bun Tom yum soup Cambodian beef stew: had it for the first time tonight and it was awesome. Flavorful but delicate broth with big chunks of vegetable and beef tendon and brisket. If you don't like eating cartilage, don't order this soup. If you do, you'll be in heaven. $10 and it's a massive portion. Vietnamese bee boong The Singapore noodles: rice vermicelli noodle with curry, carrot, beansprout, cabbage, scallion, and your choice of meat. Any of the eggplant and garlic dishes The crispy duck with the baby bok choy and ginger sauce The portion sizes are about double what you'd expect for the price. I came here for the first time on Friday. This place is the triple threat. The food is fantastic, there is so much variety that it was tough to decide what I wanted. For an appetizer my friends and I split a few orders of Nim Chow and Peking Ravioli both absolutely fantastic and fresh. Not to mention the Peanut sauce with the nim chow was some of the best I have had. For dinner one of my friends and I went with the classic Pad Thai which was great and another one went with the fried rice and BBQ pork combo. Fried rice was the bees knees. To round out the triple threat the service was fantastic, they kept refilling our drinks and the food came out fast. On top of this you can not beat the price. Absolutely a great place to go! Just an FYI it is a BYOB place so if you are looking for an adult beverage you need to provide it. I will be back soon! read more

I really enjoy Apsara Palace on Hope st, so I came in with high expectations. My first impression was that the wait staff was very inattentive. I think it was 10 minutes or so before one came over. Once a server arrived, I asked him if they offered scallion pancakes because I didn't see it on the menu like the other location. I explained that they were thinly fried and came with a plum dipping sauce. He told me that they called them scallion dumplings at this location but that it was the same thing. Guess what... LIES!! They were thick, oily gross blobs of batter filled with green vegetation inside. They were dripping with excess oil and I sent them back almost gagging. Anyone who has had scallion on pancakes from the Hope st location knows what I am talking about because they are BANGIN. When I tried to give them back, the waiter tried to explain away my issue and seemed like he was going to put up a fight over me paying for it. The owner came over and sorted it out. I really didn't like the waiters attitude, he should have just smiled, offered a brief apology and took them off the table like every other restaurant would. The location itself is dirtier, in a worse location, older and the bathrooms are kinda gross. In my opinion, the bathroom is an indication of the kitchen. I tried not to think about that fact as I ate. The wonton soup, fried rice and chinese egg rolls were all delicious and easily the best part of the meal. I got the General Tsao, and it was just mediocre. There was enough for 3 people, so that made up for it. I would have given it 2 stars if the Rice, Wonton and Egg rolls weren't top notch. read more

I will say if you are in the neighborhood it is worth stopping in. The food is pretty good for the most part. My view is that they are trying to be all things 'Asian' and should probably consider focusing a bit more. The appetizers are amazing. Lots of comments from our table as well as others around us regarding their apps. As for the mains, the wife had the ol generals chicken. It was ... not so good. very tomato based. I had one of the crispy noodle plates with chicken. Sorry I do not recall the name. It was okay, but I would not order again. The short version: the food was great but the staff was very overextended. The longer version: I was here on a Saturday night and it was really crowded. Although the waitstaff was working really hard there was a big gap between getting our appetizer and entrees. The food was very enjoyable but it was kind of a bummer to be sitting between courses for so long because we were hungry (people got and finished their entire entrees in the span we were waiting). The portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable. Bottom line: I'll definitely go back but will try to go when it's likely to be less crowded. read more

They constantly win Best Nime Chow in the City in various contests. I heartily agree with all those judges. I had a birthday celebration here last year and they flawlessly handled our party of around 10 people. If you are planning to do a group meal here, I'd recommend calling a day or so ahead to let them know. The decor could be, well, less tacky, but I suppose that the money they're not spending on making it look like Martha Stewart whipped up some Asian-inspired garden is what makes this great food so affordable. Best in Providence for Pad thai, thus far. I've tried Thai star and Ankor, neither compare to Apsara! I'd like to try the Hope St Apsara sometime, but I know they do not want to be connected to each other... There is another Apsara up in Pawtucket, which is connected to the Public Street one. In any case, I love their pad thai with lots of fresh veggies and chicken. It is a mild Pad thai, not what I am used to, and at first I did not know how to handle it...but I love it. It is so fresh and so tasty! Whenever I go there, they have a lot of people coming in and out, that's always a good sign! read more

Everything was delicious and fresh! It was very busy so we didn't get all of our food at the same time but they paced it rather evenly considering. Their Nime Chow is consistently among the best I've ever had. (Top 2) Try the Bee Bong. The only place I've ever been to where the lettuce is not used, instead it sits on top of a bed of Thai Basil. The restaurant is nicely decorated and you certainly get a lot of food for a cheap price. It's also BYOB! There were a good amount of people eating inside. The waiter was good but, not super personable. They provide you tea at the table which I thought was a nice touch. The food came out very quick and hot. We ordered the Cambodian Spring Rolls, Fried Peking Ravioli (fried dumpling), and Crab Rangoons. The spring rolls were good and the raviolis were a little lighter than typical dumplings which was nice. The Crab Rangoons were our least favorite and were okay but quite large and the filling inside a little sweet. My husband ordered the general tso meal with fried rice and an egg roll. The general tso was not very good and the sauce was different from typical places and he did not like the egg roll. He did enjoy their fried rice though. I ordered Crispy Shanghai Noodles as it's panfried lo mein with veggies and beef. The noodles were bigger than I anticipated and I felt the meal was okay. As a leftover, we felt the noodles were better. This was a good restaurant with a lot of items on the menu to choose from but I wouldn't rush back as there are other places closer to our home that we enjoy. read more

My FAVORITE restaurant. Looks like a house from the outside, but looks so cute inside. I ALWAYS stop by here with my family when I visit Massachusettes. Soooooo worth the drive. We went last night to experience the exquisite cuisine of the apsara chefs. The food..spectacular as usual. I mean it...so delicious. Apps: Nime Chow, Crab Rangoon, Seafood stew Entrees: Hunan Seafood, Seafood Singapore noodle with curry, Vegetable and Tofu pad thai The entire dinner experience lasted about three hours partly because there were only two servers on. It was exhausting trying to stop our waitress to remind her of a dish she had forgotten or water or our bill. In the end we waited 45 minutes after our meal ended to receive our bill. Normally I would be preparing an irate review of an establishment in which I experienced that type of service. For some reason, I can only smile when I think back to last night and the tastes that hit my palate. They clearly need more help in the area of service...in the end our server seemed to just give up on many of the tables as she never returned. There were lines of people waiting for tables and I must say, this experience was not a deterrant for me..I will definitely be back...mmmm so good!! read more

Love this place! Very simple area inside with hot tea and a menu that you could order a differant dish every night for a couple months before you try everything. Parking lot is limited if busy but street parking is do'able. Some might say the hood its in is maybe a little scetchy but ive been here dozens of times and never have I had any issues. Ordered a drunken noodle tofu dish to go, and when I got home it looked like there was some kind of meat in the dish. I called the restaurant and asked if there was meat that was typically included in the dish or was there another ingredient that I could be mistaking for meat? The girl who answered told me she didn't know and was really busy...the end. I completely understand being busy, but seeing as I now have a dish that I paid for and can't eat because of a mistake on their end should at least yield some kind of response, and in a good business- an apology and an offer to replace the dish! I needed a pho fix. And STAT. Saw photos of their noodle soups on Yelp and decided to give this place a try! The menu has a wide selection of Asian noodle and rice items, but spans from Chinese to Thai, Vietnamese, and Cambodian inspired dishes. The concept of the beef noodle soup is similar to pho in that it comes with a few cuts of meat, some beef balls, and a side of lime, fresh herbs, and bean sprouts. The broth is definitely on the sweeter side however, if anyone has ever had Thai or Cambodian style beef soup, it's definitely more like that! But still perfect for a for a cold day. :) take the soup home and throw in some veggies and noodles for round two! Apsara is popular and gets crowded, even on weekdays. Parking can be very difficult. The many customers limit server efficiency. Make a reservation or order carry-out if you don't want to wait. The food is delicious, the portions are large, and the leftovers will likely suffice for another meal. BYOB. The chicken-on-a-stick (satay) appetizer consists of 6 large, lightly fried white meat pieces. The Drunken Noodles were drier and less spicy than many other restaurant's. The squid with ginger could have been more aptly named onions with squid. The eggplant with garlic sauce was well prepared. read more

We found Apsara from another Yelp review when we were going to Roger Williams Zoo & now it is our favorite oriental restaurant in RI & SE Mass. We go there whenever we visit Providence & sometimes even if we are going near on the way to somewhere else, we'll grab take-out on the way by.
