this business deserves 10 stars!!! I found them through a deal on spreebird / travel zoo..... and I'm so glad we tried them out. there are SOOOOO many companies to choose from, so it was getting a bit overwhelming. The experience was by far the BEST thing we did on our first trip to hawaii. the boat leaves from a dock just north of the mall and we take it towards diamond head and get anchored in the middle of the ocean. the view is breathtaking. while on the boat, they give you all the background info and the awesome guide (Christina) and the captain are so informative and very funny. Once in the water, there are fish and turtles swimming right by you and it's incredible! they provide boogey boards for anyone who wants to just relax and look... or you can dive down if you want with the special snorkel they provide that doesn't take in water. all in all, myself, my husband and our three teenagers LOVED the the entire experience!! don't miss it!! read more

The staff is awesome! Finding the boat was a bit of a challenge, plan accordingly! Overall, the experience was great. The scuba gear is all included. I didn't feel like scuba diving, so I was able to layout take pictures and enjoy the ride. The kids enjoyed it very much. They offer light drinks and snacks. I would highly recommend Aqua Zone, staff is very personable and experienced dealing with newbies like me or regular scuba divers. My family had a blast! A magical experience! 6 of us in my family, ages 8-71, went with Aqua Zone to go snorkeling with sea turtles. Captain Randy and Christina were great hosts. They took us on the comfortable catamaran, gave clear instruction, and took us to the perfect spot. We swam with sea turtles! On the boat ride, spinner Dolphins swam alongside us! Great place to rent (or buy) beach, snorkel and scuba gear. Super-convenient if you're staying in the Marriott, since it's in the hotel complex. At various times during the week I rented chairs, an umbrella, a snorkel set, and a boogie board. The staffer, Nathalie, was helpful and friendly. The equipment was clean and in good condition. Prices were about half that of the rental kiosk on the beach itself, and Aqua Zone has a broader selection. If you want scuba gear, they suggest calling in advance to make sure they have what you need in stock. read more

Apparently I need to actually check my "yelp" more often as I didn't realize that Sophie H with the company actually wrote a reply to me and apologized for all the confusion. They took responsibility for their actions and their reply was definitely appreciated. As for the actual experience we were able to get on a boat a few days after and the experience itself was actually really fun, unfortunately we had to move a few things around on our trip to make it work out, but as this was nearly 2 years ago at this point, I really don't mind anymore. The customer service that was experienced that day brings the rating down to 3 stars, usually I'm fairly forgiving on most thing but customer service can make or break a place. Before I wrote this update I just briefly looked at some of the other reviews and the 2nd one down has an issue with the customer service aspect also. Hopefully that isn't a trend for this place. Honestly, if you try Aqua Zone and you don't have any issues, I'm sure you'll experience will be 5 stars, hopefully others don't have to experience any of the same issues I had. read more

My wife and I are experienced divers, with 30 to 40 years of diving experience each, but we're now warm-water divers and don't get in the water every year. We were looking for low-key, shallow dives with good viz and things to see. We didn't want gear hassles, a big group, or safety concerns. Aqua Zone did a really great job. Our first dive was to a turtle-cleaning station, about 30-35 feet, and despite being a but stirred up by rough water prevalent everywhere on the islands at the time (late Feb), it was a great dive. The dive master, Lindsey, was very helpful in getting my initial weight right, and then let us organize a good dive -- there was only one other diver. Our second dive was just a bit deeper, 40-45 feet, but had some nice slow life and good fish and eels. The waters off Waikiki in February are perhaps not the world's best dive sites, but these guys did a really good job with what was there. To top it off, Lindsey took some very, very good photos which she made available to us at the end. As older divers, we like to avoid hassle, and these folks adapted very graciously. My family of and I had a fantastic time with the guys from Aqua Zone. Three of my family are not certified and completed the free pool training with Daryn followed by a two tank boat dive. The dive spot was excellent, the variety of sea life amazing, turtles, tons of fish, eels, frog fish, puffer fish and octopus. The thing I most appreciated about Daryn, other than his sense of humor, was during boat ride to the dive spot he told my daughter (14) once in the water she will be stuck to him at all times which he did. Daryn never separated from her which put me at ease. Ryan our other guide was an awesome photographer, the CD was money well spent. Most of the photos look like they belong in a dive magazine. The staff, dive, equipment exceeded all my expectations. I will definitely visit Aqua Zone on my next trip to Oahu. read more

My gf and I are both first time divers so we decided to go with aqua zone as they had a free intro class at the Marriot beach resort swimming pool. I strongly suggest the free class as it gives you the opportunity to try out the gear before you do the real thing. If you do not feel comfortable in the pool, why go out to the ocean?!?! Devon the owner gave us a good understanding of Scuba Diving and Francis who did the training and dive with us was very helpful. My gf and I felt comfortable the whole time with the great staff crew at Aqua Zone. The dive location was also great, we saw 3-4 sea turtles, octopus, and a white-tip reef shark. I stopped in and did a 2-tank boat dive with Aqua Zone when I was visiting Waikiki Beach. The staff was what I expected and hoped for: Relaxed, entertaining and competent. We dove the Navy F4 Corsair and then one dive along the reef. The crew helped rinse everyone's gear, which was a nice touch. Talk about flexible,. At the last minute my 14 year old ( excellent competitive swimmer) decides he wants to dive for his early birthday present. They took him down to the pool for training and the free intro class at the Marriot pool. Francis did a great job of bringing up to speed. My husband and I spent a week with Aqua Zone. It was great. Randy, the captain, is funny and a great host. He always made sure we went to great places and took care of us. One morning I was getting on the boat and dropped my keys in the harbor. He out on a BC and dove for them. Talk about customer service! We dove 18 dives in 6 days with them so we went out with many dive masters and they were all great. On most dives we were with Lindsey. She's definitely a fantastic guide! We bought a multi dive package. I would recommend them and book with them again if we r there. read more

Rented snorkel and fins for four of us (two kids and two adults) hoping for a family fun day of snorkeling. Traveled from San Fran to Hawaii. Discovered once we reached the cove after an hours drive, one of the snorkel was unusable as the mouth piece kept popping out. The idea of all four of us snorkeling together was shot. Back at Aqua Zone to return the equipment, we demonstrated the faulty equipment and were told only the manager can issue a refund. Took down my mobile number and said the manager would call me to issue the refund. No apologies for busting our vacation day nothing. Worst of all, I never got a call from the 'manager'. I doubt I will ever see a refund. Buyer beware - stay away from this shop! Many other reliable and honest options available all around in Waikiki. Cheaper too! Hawaii is awesome! We continued to have many other fun outings. read more

Aqua Zone was great! I did a two tank dive in July with Divemaster, Travis and our boat Captain, Randy both of which were exceptional. Safety on the boat was addressed by Randy prior to departure and as we arrived at our 1st dive site (Corsair wreckage) Travis went over safety and communication instructions for during the dive. As a newly certified, novice diver, it had been about 6 months since my certification. I had an initial nervousness at first when getting into the water, but then relaxed and Travis took me slowly down the line to the Corsair wreckage, constantly checking with me to make sure I was okay. I was fine after going under and felt completely relaxed and safe knowing that if something were to happen Travis would be right there. The wrekage of course attracts many divers and so, looking for Travis in the water with so many other divers around from other companys was really easy - just look for the holes in the knees of the wetsuit. You can't miss him!! I did not have my own equimpment so, all of the equipment was provided and put together for me. For those of us who are newly certified or do not get a chance to dive as much this is a really nice feature so, you can relax and enjoy. The dive at the Corsair wreckage was spectacular and we continued on to our second location. It was really smooth out that day and so, we attempted to go to the Sea Cave, but upon reaching the destination Randy felt it was a little too rough so, we headed to a regular dive spot where Travis guided us around and found some wonderful sea life to observe. There was also a much more experienced diver with us who had been diving in many places around the world and he had been diving with them quite a few times while on Oahu and raved that they were one of the better companys to go diving with. I would highly recommend this company. They were efficient and made sure that safety was observed while having fun and still being able to fully enjoy the dives. Had an excellent morning with Randall and Christina. Very patient, professional and have a great sense of humour. The dive was just after the hurricane threats and I appreciated the being advised that the boat would not be going out until Monday or Tuesday. It was a great way to decompress ( pun intended) after my daughter's wedding and it gave my GoPro a workout. Christina's pics were good and reasonably priced as compared to other dive companies. Aqua Zone picked me up at my hotel, and drove me to the marina where our dive boat captain was ready to go. As we drove out to the dive site, our friendly dive master & guide, Christina, made everyone feel welcome. Once we were above the sunken ship wreck, our team of divers stepped off the boat into the water. After a brief safety check, we descended down 100 feet and began exploring the ship. It was a wonderful experience- complete with giant sea turtles and hundreds of fish species. As an added bonus, Christina took pictures of each of the divers as we explored the site. After making our way back to port, we disembarked and I was dropped off back at my hotel. It all made for a fun, easy and enriching experience. read more

Our trip in September 2010 found me booking a 3 day dive package from Aqua Zone. The crew was fantastic. We had a great time chatting, checking out the sites and our dive masters/captains were fantastic. Knowledgeable and fun! LOTS of sea life, great photos and Corsair was awesome. This is a review for the snorkeling tour, not the shop. This is not a tour company you want to use if you're taking children of any age. The tour guides were 2 young ladies. The wore very, very small bikinis. I get that we're in Hawaii and that most women wear bikinis. But, this left very little to the imagination. They also used a lot of foul language when they were talking to each other about their social lives and who's posting what on Facebook. If you're taking the snorkeling tour, you pretty much get ignored. They're entire focus is on the scuba tour. They didn't give us our snorkeling equipment until we asked for it. They didn't tell us when to go out or where to look once we were in the ocean. They could have left us in the ocean and wouldn't even know we were missing. The scuba tour seemed like a lot of fund and they definitely know what they're talking about. But, if you're looking for a snorkeling tour or doing this as a family, go elsewhere. read more

The Kaneohe Bay Aqua Zone staff was AMAZING! First off they fit us with the necessary gear (snorkel, fins and boots), for me and my husband (wetsuit) in preparation for the class. Their prices beat, or were competitive with other shops that we'd gone and checked out prior to buying here. For my classes, they truly went above and beyond with the training they offered for me to get my open water scuba certification. Dean, my instructor, has tons of experience and patience, and he needed it as English is not my first language. Devon (the owner) asked Rocky to assist, and with both of their instruction, I was able to get through the course. Kudos to both Dean, Rocky, and Devon for making it a truly memorable experience! This review is for renting snorkel hear from this store, not for any of the dives or activities. I got a groupon for 5 days of snorkel hear for less than $20 including defogger, fins and snorkel. Everything worked great, service was quick and to the point. My only complaint would be that it's in the middle of Waikiki which means zombie tourists everywhere and very little parking. However I thought it was a great deal and really enjoyed the equipment. I also really liked ha in snorkel gear in my car so I could go snorkeling whenever the mood struck. read more

Our experience was awesome. We were a fairly small group of first-time snorkelers out to see some turtles on a Saturday, and we were not disappointed! The Aqua Zone crew knew what they were doing and made us feel super relaxed. Christina really knows her stuff (and is also a pretty incredible underwater photographer). She even let me try a dab of her homemade sunscreen--it's amazing. Next time, I'll totally want to go back and learn how to scuba dive, but this was a good warm-up and was definitely a highlight of our trip. I recommend it! read more

My husband and I had a good time on the boat and in the water. We paid for the snorkeling package, and enjoyed the time in the water but wished it could have been in shallower water to be able to swim closer to the bottom more easily. The crew was very nice and helpful but very late. We were told to be there early but they didn't show up for another 45 minutes. While it was still enjoyable the focus was clearly on the scuba divers, which is why it was in deeper water. We'll look for something geared more towards snorkelers the next time we do this. read more

We did the sea turtle snorkeling tour. The crew (Christina and Tyler) were awesome, but the skipper (boat driver) was horrible. His customer service skills were just poor. I've been on many boats and to this point his was the worst skipper ever. He was really snobby and just lacked a personality. He was just was plain rude!!!!! These guys are amazing! This was my first time snorkeling, as well as my family's, and it was definitely not as terrifying as I thought it was going to be. They had various flotation devices for you to use if floating in the open ocean wasn't your thing, and were very friendly and helpful. We saw sea turtles from the very start, up until we left. There were tons of fish, big and small. It was a truly amazing experience! We were late getting to the boat, and the guys waited for us to get there before departing. How many places would do that? Thus, this adds to the 5-star rating. Keep up the good work guys! We'll definitely be back! read more

As I recently finished a diving class with them, I can personally attest that the crew is both personable and knowledgable. Plus they are excellent at underwater photography!
