When I arrived, I was assisted thru the paperwork. I was brought back to my room, to get ready for a series of test/ with the use of dye. It did take some time because there was a person ahead of me. It takes time for the dye to get where it's at the right place for pictures. It was reasonable, and there was probably someone that had to wait until mine were done. When the dye was in position...all of the pictures were completed quickly. The staff..from the Doctor to the Peri-Medic made this bearable. Humor and patience can help on both sides...You and the Medical Staff. I hope if they were to have to give feedback on me as a patient, I would get a good rating, too. read more

This is the worst healthcare provider service I have ever encountered, even after using diagnostic services in some very rural areas and in the busiest Metropolitan areas. maybe one out of 10 service and scheduling reps even listens to your issue, but every center will drop your call after waiting on hold for 10 minutes- and I mean at exactly 10 minutes. Their system is programmed to drop you without any concern when you are waiting on hold for a STAT appt or desperate need. Completely insensitive and unhelpful. Their reports are often blurry and illegible even after requesting originals multiple times. They send faxes with blurry streaks and multiple printer lines and marks making them impossible to read. I needed to have a CT scan done and was able to get an appointment pretty quickly. The address was easy to find and there was ample parking. The building is nice with a ramp and automatic doors. Once inside there is good signage and I found my way to the ARA office without any issues. I checked in right away. The waiting room is large with plenty of available seats and a TV. Within 5 minutes they called me up and I had my scan done in ten minutes, maybe less. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The machine was very clean and looked new. They had a knee pillow for me to use without having to ask. Talk about quality of care! I will definitely be coming here for all my imaging needs. read more

I especially Loved that you can do your paperwork online or on your phone in advance! Makes the check-in process so fast and easy. I had top sign one other document in person and was checked in in literally 30 seconds with their friendly front desk staff. They were chatting a lot about what they were looking forward to with the weekend approaching and seemed to enjoy working there together, which is refreshing to see. This did not take away from the excellent service and attention they paid to patients coming in as well. I went in for a uterine X-ray as a prerequisite for fertility treatment and the staff explained every process I had to go through and made me feel comfortable about asking questions or bringing up how I was feeling during the short procedure. This had more to do with ARA in general and not just this location. ARA did not include our doctors orders (CT scan) when we scheduled our MRI. When it was finally pointed out to them, the next appointment is 5 months away. After speaking to an ARA Service Quality Specialists, it was discovered that the doctor ordered the "CAT scan by December". This confused the ARA folks so they contact my wife and set up the appointment in December but never mentioned that the doctor ordered the scan by December. I had one of THE MOST AWFUL EXPERIENCES I've ever had at a "doctors" office. I recently discovered a LARGE mass and needed to have it checked. I was feeling scared, vulnerable and nervous to begin with. My name is Steven Dini and I had a 1:30 p.m appointment on Friday April 25th. I walked up to the desk and was greeted by Shawn. I asked her how she was doing and her response was "you're late". I looked confused and replied "oh I'm sorry I thought it was for 1:30". She replied "No you need to be here 10 minutes early". "We sent you an email covering all your details". I checked my email and turns out it was in my spam folder. ‍ Honest oversight. She then proceeds to tell me "Yeah I don't even know if they can help you today you're probably gonna have to reschedule"!? She then calls someone in front of me and says "yeah he's here but he's late so do you guys still got time for him"? She then starts looking at my insurance cards and says "what is this"?! "What are these"?! They are my insurance cards I use without an issue EVERYWHERE else. I'm NOT the front desk attendant so I don't know what you need. The entire experience was so upsetting I just asked to reschedule and instead of being understanding and apologetic she was combative and antagonistic. I'm in need of a time sensitive test and she's outright treating me like a piece of garbage. Her bedside manner is nonexistent. Lastly when I told her this has all been too stressful I'd like to reschedule she got a big SHIT grin on her face. Shawn gets off on upsetting patients. It's absolutely disgusting. Quality imaging but terrible billing. We have Medicare as primary and BCBS as secondary. They always charge a copay and have to call to get refund. Corporate told me it's my responsibility to make sure they recognize the 2 insurance cards. They told me they can not force me to pay the copay before services. The staff is very friendly and professional. When I was checked in the front seat didn't give me a quote after they ran my insurance. The lady just handed my card back and had me fill out paperwork. Because of her miss communication now I have to pay full amount of $1847.45. Very incompetent. I called the billing department and they offered me a non insured discount but that amount is still very high unfortunately. If I could get a lower rate I'm willing to pay. Thirdly, what do you do (ARA) if your computer/system is down? H do you get people information? How do you register people? Just remember, not everyone is computer smart. 1) The last name not allowing special characters is stupid. Hyphenated last name is legal. 2) Acquiring data on the tablet is too cumbersome. ARA is a data freaks. 3) Please standardize your ARA tablet data information. Keep it simple. read more

It was super easy to book my mammogram with ARA. They gave me the directions, dates/times, and instructions for my appointment. A day or two before my appointment I got a text reminder and confirmation. About twenty or thirty means before my appointment time I got additional instructions upon arrival that I need to complete a 'rona checklist before entering the build. I assume this is because they don't have 'rona checkers. ARA currently are mask required no matter vaccination status. Check-in process was easy. I had to fill out my paperwork. I was asked if I had the 'rona vaccine but was not asked if I had any other vaccines. Not sure why as this provides vital medical information about myself and if I am able to protect myself from diseases. I sat around for a while and went back maybe 30 minutes later. The tech was very straight to the point without chit chat. I did appreciate but it was just not a typical healthcare experience. Bonus for getting a mammo you get a bag. read more

Update: Within hour of posting I got a response and called the service excellence departmet. They explained why ordering and checkin were not doing their jobs. When I came in service was fast and efficient most of the time and I was able to go back to work. All in all, is what I expected to get nothing more or less. Too bad it took one failed visit to get things right. This ended up wasting an extra hour of my time. Fortunately I was close. Original: Quite possibly the most incompetent Radiologist facility I ever came across. Was supposed to have a CT done at the facility and a day before the exam they remember they need approval from the insurance company and the doctor's notes. After a fire drill I manage to get those to them and the insurance approves the exam. When I show up this morning at 6:30AM, I'm told they don't have a doctor's order and cannot perform the exam. To the question - "Why wasn't I told you don't have an order?" The answer was "We were trying to get one". If I had been told, I could have had my doctor re-send it. If these folks can't figure out how to get a doctor's order, what are the chances they'll know how to read your radiology images? Forget about their seemingly complete diregard to patient's time and having me come at the crack of dawn only to turn me away because of their lack or organization. BEWARE the fraudulent and unethical billing practices of this organization! I was referred to ARA by my chiropractor for baseline spinal x-rays. I called to make an appointment and confirmed that ARA was in network for my insurance provider. I arrived for my appointment and was waited on by a woefully under-trained and incompetent employee. He took my physician's order and billed for a plethora of x-rays that totaled $573. He also billed me for not only the $75 co-pay that I expected but also for an additional 40% of the total because he claimed that ARA was not in network for my insurance provider. I advised him that I confirmed that ARA was in network when I made the appointment and on my insurance provider's website. I was unable to proceed with my appointment unless I paid for this substantial overcharge. I later met with the x-ray tech who looked at all of the x-rays that were ordered; she stated that this was incorrect and I only needed $223 of x-rays. She said that I would be refunded the difference; this never happened. I received my explanation of benefits about two weeks after my appointment. It confirmed that ARA was in network and I only should have been charged my $75 co-pay. I later received another bill from ARA for the balance that wasn't completely paid by insurance; balance billing is not permissible because ARA is in network for my insurance provider. I have since called ARA multiple times and have only received excuses as to why I haven't been refunded the substantial overcharge that occurred at my appointment. It's unfortunate that my only in network provider for radiology services has completely fraudulent and unethical billing practices. I had an MRI of the chest, This was ordered by well known Seton cardiologist. I have an aneurysm and I have no doubt it was medically necessary. I have AETNA and MEDICARE, ARA had the audacity to bill me $1,800 Medicare states it is their error for not coding correctly with a modifier. The nurse at the office does NOT know what a modifier is. they give you the option of completing registration online then when you get to the registration desk you see a sign that says recording , talking on the phone etc is not permitted. when the person before me finishes at the desk I step forward and the desk clerk rudely tells me to step back in line until I am called. No wonder they don't want to be recorded. I step back and watch how the other clerks continue to just chat with each other. finally one calls me over and gives me more questions to answer, many which are already answered on online registration. I had an Upper GI test on Friday 12/3 and all went very smoothly. The staff in admission area were friendly, and processed me quickly. This test is somewhat difficult because you have to drink barium that tastes like chalk and try to swallow it - My technician Shannon was superb. She was very, very friendly and knowledgeable. Explained protocol to me and encouraged me gently throughout. She was fast with the handling of equipment and I was finished in no time! read more

Parents of sons or daughters, whether adult or child, who have an intellectual disability, avoid this company. If I could give a lower rating I would. This place refused to provide a reasonable accommodation for my son who among other conditions has a profound intellectual disability. He will not wear a mask. He doesn't understand it and won't do it. Of course it means we stay at home most of the time but medical stuff still happens. Every doctor, lab, chiropractor, dentist that he goes to have worked with me to provide a reasonable accommodation but not these people. If your loved one has autism, head injury, or any other condition that affects their intellect do not waste your time with these people. I don't leave many reviews, but I felt compelled to leave a few quick notes about my experiences at ARA Quarry Lake. I went in a week ago for a test that I was SUPER nervous about (HSG). I read tons of absolute horror stories online about this test (I know, I know), and I was terrified. In fact, when I found out my insurance might not cover the cost of the procedure, I considered using it as an excuse to bail. I decided to stick it out, and I couldn't have been more pleased that I did. Sarah, my tech, was one of the kindest human beings I have ever encountered. She was patient, explained everything to me, and although it wasn't what I'd call fun, it all went by very quickly. I understand we have to wear the mask but she will try to have you play as many tricks as you will let her with the mask even though it's over the nose she still wants to see the mask totally extended. I filled out my paperwork and did not wait long at all before I was called to the back. I could not remove my necklace and the man who did my ultrasound helped me take it off/put it on so I would not get jelly all over it. I was referred by my doctor for a mammogram. Since I work Monday through Friday, I decided to request time off at work and walked in this facility. I let the lady know that I had a mammogram done at a different location last year and provided with my new insurance information since I switched employers. Lady said they had an opening two hours from my arrival time. Went about running some errands nearby and arrived 20 minutes before my appointment. I waited patiently for someone to call me and it didn't happen. Twenty minutes past my scheduled time I approached the counter and ask one of the "ladies" sitting there and she very rudely pointed out that I had walked in and then said my appointment was 20 minutes later than what I originally was told it was. Waited 25 more minutes and then approached the counter again and requested to have my referral back. This is when everyone starts scrambling around: talking on the phone and trying to find out what had happened with my referrals. A person comes from the back claiming that they had called my name several times. They never did. I was sitting on the waiting room like an idiot waiting to be called (there are cameras to prove that). They finally find my referral tossed in the trash while another person calls me "sweetie" and proceeds to tell me that they were hesitant about me having to pay for the procedure, since I had one done last year. I lost it (not as bad as I would have liked to) and told the lady that my doctor had referred me. I told her also that a year had gone by and that I had switched employers and insurance. I told her I do have the means to pay for the procedure if it comes down to that and that I was going to call my insurance and report them. This is straight up discrimination and people do not need to go to this place to get treated like trash. read more

I went in for a mammogram a couple of days ago, and today got the dreaded call back phone call. It's stressful enough to have to go back in (is it nothing or is it cancer?), but then I'm told that the earliest follow up appointment is almost 3 weeks away. And that's not just for this location, it's for every ARA women's imaging center in the Austin area. That seems like a heck of a long time to keep someone waiting when it's about something that could be so important. By the way, I usually have mammograms done at the Women's Imaging Center in the Jefferson Building and I've never had a call back there. ARA are 2 for 2 with me, at different locations, so the radiology gods must be smiling upon me. Either that or these locations just know how to administratively run the place like clockwork despite the large bevy of scanning works that must be done to humans every day. As Steve mentioned in his review from two years ago, likewise I was in there around 11:15 on a weekday, and was out of there by 11:45. I think that is a faster turnaround time than I get for allergy injections (although mind you, I'm required to sit there for 20 minutes, so I don't blame them for that. I'm just, you know. Saying.) Previously I refused to give ARA a 5 star because I thought "Nobody getting scanned realllllly wants to be here." And since ARA can't reallllllllly make you want to be there (I guess they could offer incentives for testing, but I suspect that is not moral/legal), I figured they really didn't deserve a 5-star. But as I also said previously, they are helping fix your body and sometimes even save lives. And if they do it courteously, promptly, and consistently, though - don't they deserve the 5-star? I turned 35 this year. Cue parents harassing you about kids, crows feet and all those "you're an old lady" medical things you have to endure. One of those is apparently a baseline mammogram. Having never had one of these bad boys, I wasn't sure what to expect. TL:DR: It was quick and painless and necessarily awkward. I was also in and out in less than 30 minutes. Long version: There seems to be a lot of hesitancy and hushed whispers surrounding this so I was a little apprehensive. Turns out, there was no need to be. Finding the damn place took longer than the actual event. It's in the Quarry Lake Business park and you should know now that google has no clue how to get you there. After checking in and filling out some forms, I went to the back area and changed into a gown. ProTip: You don't have to take your pants off. I did mistakenly and then felt like a weirdo. "Ma'am... you don't have to take your pants off." Whoopzie. Then you go to a private room and this machine squishes your boobs four ways to get a picture of what they look like inside. Twice you'll kind of heft your ladies onto this platform looking thing and the second series is a side pic with more hefting. They basically compress them between two flat surfaces to get the pic. #titsinavice Meanwhile the nurse is moving your arm around and making sure there's no extra skin that could be caught in the picture which, yes, involves touching your boobs. This whole thing is so clinical it's not even funny. Your girl bits are treated like any other weird lump of flesh. It's oddly reassuring. And that's it! You leave the signed paper with the gal up front and leave and cross your fingers that there's nothing wrong. read more

This story begins years ago, when I started having lower back pain. (When I say years, I mean like, 15) In the past two years though, my painful days have outnumbered the painless days. An unnamed local chiropractor told me in June 2008 that I needed an MRI to properly diagnose my problem, but he also said it wouldn't be covered by my insurance.. I believed that until recently, when a coworker had back surgery and told me he had an MRI done to get the care he needed. I thought if he could get a scan, I needed to see if I could get one too. Sure enough, my insurance company said they would cover it. On with the review.. After going to a doctor to get an MRI ordered, I made an appointment with ARA through a friendly woman named Shannon. I called on a Tuesday. She had an appointment for me on Thursday of the same week. All they needed was clinical notes from my doctor, and the copy of the order I had with me. Due to some ball-dropping and incompetence from Austin Regional Clinic, it took longer than expected to get the necessary notes from my doc to ARA. No worries, they were on top of it, and called me to reschedule for Friday (next day). I was all set to go when Alex at ARA called Friday morning to say my insurance company was now the only thing holding us up. They hadn't given authorization yet, and that is essential. I asked Alex if I could call Humana and hassle them, but he offered to do it for me. Less than 5 minutes later he called me back and said we were all set, for sure this time.. I like those who go the extra mile for a customer. The actual appointment, from check-in to check-out, went smooth as can be. I'd heard the MRI machine was noisy, so they offer (non-metallic) headphones to drown out the noise. I brought a CD so I wouldn't have to listen to the radio, and they played it. I had also heard that the actual machine was not good for the claustrophobic. Lucky for me since I'm tall, when they loaded me in the tube, my head from the nose up was sticking out the front. Then I just had to concentrate on lying still and relaxing so they could get a clear scan image. The tech that worked with me was friendly and helpful. No complaints at all. Just be advised that if you do bring your own music, make it light on the bass. The plastic headphones distort like mad on every bassy beat. read more

The parking is free [I have no idea why people are saying it isn't, maybe they reviewed the wrong location.] the building and lobby are pretty nice and I actually found the seating to be more comfortable than most. The staff was friendly and courteous, the techs even more so. Nikki was mine for this specific visit and she had a great attitude bordering on chipper, which made the whole process easier to swallow than the 3 things of barium I had. [rimshot!] I do have a mild complaint and that was that they weren't able to do both of the scans on the same day but to be fair, that's not really on them, my doctor is the one who ordered it. If I do have to go in for another scan, I'll be coming back to this location as I've yet to have a single negative experience here. I should note I have also recommended this location to friends who have had the same experience I have. read more

I've had several imaging tests done here over the last 4 years. The first time the tech was a rude Asian lady that made me feel like she thought I was trying to pass myself off as someone else. WTF!? She came across as rude and abrupt. Whatever. The second time the woman was pleasant enough but took way too long "testing" me. Almost seemed liked she was just absentmindedly looking around. I said something to her and it seemed to get her out of her funk and she finished the testing. It was uncomfortable. These people seem to forget how awkward it is to be standing around in a paper gown. The last time was an MRI. The tech was a guy. I told him I was claustrophobic. He didn't give me the option to go in feet first. The front desk didn't communicate w the tech. And when I told the tech he didn't "listen " to my words when I told him clearly that I was claustrophobic. He just had me lie there and put me in head first. Halfway thru he got the message from the front and he turned me around but he never clearly explained that by turning me around it wouldn't capture the whole spine. This test is $700 of my deductible. Don't you think for that amount of money the tech can spend 3 extra minutes providing me w the information to make an informed decision? For that amount of money I should be treated like royalty. Not impressed by their bedside manner at all. Maybe they should be testing computers instead of people. read more
