Arrived at Aranda's Mexican Restaurant 609 Highway 35 North Rockport, TX 78382 at about 1;00 pm. One of our favorite places to dine in Rockport! Good food and great service ALWAYS! I highly recommend it! Having said that, I noticed something that upset me! I am a Military Veteran with 22 years of service, including serving on the Base Honor Guard representing the Air Force at the burial of a deceased Veteran. As a Vietnam Veteran and with many deployments under my belt, not much riles me! This display did! What I saw was the U.S. FLAG improperly displayed up against the wall. It appeared like someone had stapled the flag to the wall. Upon inspection, two sides of the Flag were being held to a piece of wood by Spring clips. The Flag might also have been touching the floor! But I discovered that it was touching the Base of the staff. Not good! It upset me. I called over the Manager, a very nice Lady who provides superb Customer Service. I explained my military background and mentioned that 3 Generations have served our Country. We are proud Americans who served America in many Wars and Conflicts. She was not aware of the Flag Display problem. She stated her Son was serving in the Air Force and that she would bring the Flag display up to higher Management. It's amazing to me that no one saw that, including me and my wife as we have dined here at least every few weeks. I pray the Display will be corrected properly. The U.S. Flag must hang freely and NOT touch anything, including the ground. If anyone is not sure about how to Display the Flag, ask the Boys Scouts or a WWII, Korea or Vietnam Veteran. My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Service Critic; I have over 65 years of Management Experience. I have a College Degree with a BS in Management and have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. I've managed full service as well as fast food restaurants and have had my own successful Catering business. As a Culinary Trainer, I have trained personnel on how to provide superb cuisine and sales and customer service. I would give it zero stars if I could. The food is horrible , I ordered menudo and as soon as it arrived to the table my daughter said "it smells like poop" indeed it smelled like poop, besides that it had no flavor, this is not the first time I get this dish but it's the worst by far. My wife got caldo de res and again, it had a funky smell to it, have you ever smelled a wet cow? Well this caldo de res smelled exactly like that. My daughter got Texas shrimps which were not good either, but at least it wasn't as bad as the other two dishes. Anyway. Keep away from this place. Been here several times. Always consistently good whether breakfast or lunch. Love the Migas and the Chiliquilles for breakfast. Love the Chili Rellanos and the Bacon Chicken Salad. Loved the Fajitas. Great Charro Beans and green salsa. Margaritas are decent. Service has been from the same waitress several times. She is thorough and anticipates needs, but doesn't smile and is all business every time she waited on us. She is always there. They have busy weekend brunch times and early diners fill the place to capacity. Being on the water basically across the street, the restaurant is nice and fairly clean considering the building has taken some hurricane damages in the past. We are winter Texans. We were going to this restaurant at least 2 times a week. Lunch, Supper etc. We were always treated well until our last visit. We were sitting at the bar having a drink and chips. Our bartender disappeared for a few minutes. She came back and told my husband that he didn't pay for his last meal. That was a week and a half ago. We have been here since then and nobody said a word. Bartender said it was her fault for not putting it on the bill but we still owe them for it. My husband paid in cash and we have no way to check what was paid for. I asked her to bring up the receipt. She said she could but the $22 for that meal will not be on there. So we have to trust what she says. The little weasel manager sat behind us at a table and never said a word. He's the one that put her up to this. My husband had left a healthy tip that same night and he always does. I couldn't believe this manager was so stupid to ruin good customers over $22. We paid the bill and will never return. The so called manager said this is the first time he's seen us since that nite. That's a lie. We had just been there in the afternoon two days prior and we had to go to the register to pay because no one brought us a bill. Guess who took our money that day!?!?! We learned a lesson about paying in cash and trusting the employees. read more

The food lacked authentic flavor or any flavor for that matter. The guacamole tasted like they used the pre-peeled avocados from HEB or Costco. They have a preservative in them that gives them a strange taste to me. The fish tacos were hands down the worst that I've ever had. They were absolutely terrible. My father had the shrimp brochette. The bacon was so burnt around the shrimp that it hurt our teeth to eat it. Then the shrimp inside was just like a rubber ball from being overcooked so bad. I went to get dinner after work tonight and I received horrible service. I sat down and was brought a menu and asked what I wanted to drink. I told the waitress what I wanted to drink and she left. I waited 20 minutes and the waitress still hadn't come back with my drink or to take my order. They sent over a waiter to take my order. They told him I ordered a water, so he brought me a water. I told him I didn't order a water and how long I had been sitting there waiting to order my food. He took my order. I asked him for the owner or manager and he said they were not there. I said whose in charge and he said no one. I didn't believe him. They still charged me full price for my food. I didn't go in there with the intention to try and get a discount, but when you are treated with horrible service, they need to accommodate. read more

We were staying in Rockport TX the week of 19 July 203. Our family went to Arandas for breakfast on Friday of that week. Everyone had a fantastic dining experience at this restaurant! The food and service were superb. We had our great-grandsons with us (2 and 5 years old), and they enjoyed the huge selection Arandas gave them. I had a hard time deciding what to eat since there were so many breakfast choices! I enjoyed every bit of my tacos and yes, they are big! We will definitely be back for breakfast or lunch next time we are in Rockport! You'll enjoy the food and atmosphere at this restaurant. Stop by the next time you're in Rockport TX. We went to their new location for the first time because we always loved their food and service in their old location. This was a big mistake. It took 35 minutes to get our simple breakfast. The lady took our order quickly then we didn't see her for 35 minutes. No refill on tea, no chips and salsa, no contact whatsoever. Finally our food came. It was good but by the time we got tortillas and hot sauce my breakfast was almost cold. Unless you have at least an hour or more to wait for scrambled eggs and an omelet, I would not suggest this restaurant. They quit serving breakfast at 10:30 on a Sunday. we noticed several families leaving because breakfast wasn't served. in a costal town where hotel where check out is 11, you would think they would serve breakfast longer. read more

The owner took my order in the drive-thru: a pound a baraqoa. It came with 6 steamed corn tortillas, cilantro, onions and 6 green and red hot sauces. It made me remember Sunday's in San Antonio. I usually dine in and sit near a view of the water. This place is busy in the mornings. They have a great menu. And they serve awesome margaritas!! It's a great place to go with friends. Ordered the mixed fajita lunch plate. With water it was less than $10. Did not come with onions and bell peppers which were available at an extra charge. ( kind of out of the ordinary). This plate did not include lettuce or guacamole which is usually included at most other places. Chips were like something you would get from a bag in the grocery store. Salsa was flavorful and not too hot. Food was ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Owner or manager was going around the tables checking on customers and food orders. It is an okay Mexican restaurant with great coffee. I came here for breakfast a few days ago. It was not bad, but it was nothing special. The people were friendly and served us fast. We ordered our food, and it came out in a reasonable amount of time. Honestly, the presentation of the food was not very good, but the taste was not bad. It seems like bland is the flavor of the day when it comes to Mexican restaurants on the Texas coast for some reason. But, the food here was no overly bland. It did have some flavor to it. It was a lot better than the meal I ate the night before, at another Mexican restaurant in Port Aransas, that is for sure. I might try here for lunch and dinner to see what else they offer, so I would have more to go on for this review than just a single breakfast. As it stands, I rate this restaurant at 3-stars for food. But they do have some of the best restaurant coffee I have had in a long time, so that pushed them into the 4-star category. I would definitely come here to drink coffee. It is seldom that I find a place that serves coffee I actually like. I can count the spots on the one hand that I have ever had a cup of coffee at that I said, "Now, THIS is a good cup of coffee!" This is one place I said this. read more

You know they have a saying that says, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Well, may I say that is the case with this place? I pulled out my Yelp app in search of food since Hu Dat was closed, even though their hours said they were open. This place has good reviews so we said YOLO! First off, the parking lot was empty for it being 8pm on a Saturday. I was a bit nervous that there were not that many people. I went inside anyway. When you walk in, you will see a sign to seat yourself. As we walked near the center of the dining area to sit at the area with the booths, all I could see is trash and food all over the floor. One booth I was going to sit at had rice in the seat. Ok! I think I had enough signs for the night. I was trying not to concentrate on that so I missed the opportunity of snapping a photo of it. I was hungry and it was already 8pm so I was like "Yelp reviewers have to be right on this." The chips and salsa came out. I love chips and salsa. The salsa tasted like tomatoes and didn't have much of a kick at all. We let the server know and he said he had something for us. He came back with an extra spicy salsa. Yes! It was definitely spicy. The kind of spicy were you drink too much water to cool your mouth and get full. I love eating spicy foods since it's very satisfying. Yum! I tried their barbacoa taco. Definitely has good flavor and a lot of meat. As far as the food, I ordered the Taquitos Arandas. I was thinking it would be tiny tacos. No way! They aren't shy about the meat and servings. There was a lot of meat and the meat had good flavor. When I saw the color of the charro beans I got worried. Ugh oh..another sign. It had a very red (tomato) color. I ignored it and tried it anyway. It was very tasty! Lots of bacon pieces with celery. Really good. I left stuffed and happy. There are a lot of workers who work here. Most of them were near the register chatting. This turned out to be a good thing since the server came by to check on us often. We didn't have just one person serving our table either. Three people stopped by. The servers were nice and patient while we tried to figure out what to order. I will check this place out again to see what else may be good here. Just another average Tex-Mex restaurant. It's quite big inside, and the portions are big. I was surprised to see they had Molé, so I ordered the Molé enchiladas. They were good but nothing spectacular. There's definitely a price mark up for being in a tourist town, especially for the quality you get. My family ordered a whole bunch of other things that were also just good. The queso dip was yum. Vamos al Arandas! This Mexican restaurant is decent! This place is big inside, with lots of seating, fast and friendly service, and decent Mexican food! They serve up free chips and salsa, which is worth the visit alone! I was impressed at how many televisions that they have here- one on nearly every wall, and a bar area in the back. They serve a wide variety of beers, margaritas and liquor! Viva! I got the beef fajita burrito, which wasn't all that. It had more tortilla, lettuce, and sour cream than anything else- mostly fluff and filler. It's alright, the setting and great service made up for the lackluster food. I guess if I wanted a full plate of fajita meat, I should get one of those steaming, sizzling platters I see. The decor was interesting, like a Mexican hacienda. It's got wood everywhere around here, with authentic Mexican pieces of art on every wall. I thought the amount of food was quite fair for the price!
