The Gold Fish has proven this long-held collective pessimism wrong. Originally a cocktail bar only, it has now expanded into a cocktail, beer and wine outdoor/indoor bar, which makes complete sense given the city's demographic demands. It was actually one of the first businesses I was most concerned with us losing permanently during the pandemic. And I am so glad they have stuck around! It is a modern cocktail bar at its core, which makes it very unique to this city. This is an obvious adoption of cocktail bar trends from other larger cities in Texas. It is very nice, with a wide array of adult beverage options for discriminating consumers to chose from. The atmosphere is perfect, and the bartenders and staff are top-notch and super nice (the attitude is refreshing compared to what one may be used to recieving from such establishments in larger cities). I usually only come here when I have company from out-of-town, as I do not go out for drinks very often. At my most recent visit, I had just experienced a personal tragedy that I only briefly alluded to our bartender when she asked how our day was going. The amount of sincere compassion we received was not expected at all. My only regret is that I did not get her name, or else I would have gladly included it in this review.

Friends and co workers raved about it and it gave me high expectations. Before I start I'll say first that this was my first experience here and maybe I shouldn't have sat at the bar. Nonetheless here is what I thought Elijah was our bartender and he did his job. Attentive to the bar patrons and the people sitting on the tables around the bar area. It was only him so I give him kudos for doing a great job! Now the food... We ordered their CAB NACHOS, RIBEYE CHICHARRÓN and a side of fries. The nachos were basic. Nothing too special about them. Looked more like triangle chalupas but the guacamole and pico were fresh and tasty. Nice portion and good taste. Again nothing special but I can see why the bartender said it was his favorite. You can't go wrong with that item. Fries, to me not really fries more like bulky curly fries. Needed salt but that's a plus cause at times places add too much. Now that item I was excited for... And it was a downer. When you call something "chicharrón" you must make sure that it's fried well and that it's crispy. The Ribeye Chicharrón was more like ribeye steak chunks instead. Nothing about it defined crunch at all! The presentation was cool though as it came in a jar sort of speak and they let them fall like a tower. Just fell short of my expectations based on the item name and description. Again, their pico and guacamole were delicious! My favorite was the pico! Really fresh. I will need to come back and try their other items but their first impression to me was mid. Again, my opinion and my experience. Godspeed everyone!!

Incredibly attentive (by default) he was great at answering our questions and making recommendations. I tried out the Balacera - boasting both mezcal and absinthe, two widely hated spirits on their own which had the potential to make it disgusting...and it was fantastic! Super unique and refreshing on the particularly muggy day. We also ordered a cherry vodka soda, which came topped with homemade maraschinos and juice, which was equally tasty. We also tried out a gin daisy and ghost of greyhound (a nod to the location previously being a bus station, hence, the BUS moniker). The gin daisy was a little too heavy on aperol for my tastes, but the ghost was another hit. It was great to see a specialty menu of drink combinations you don't often find. We didn't stick around for food, but couldn't help but take in the cute decorations and details both inside and out. A fun addition to the widening "trendification" of downtown Corpus. I do believe I will be adding this to my rotation when in town!
