So happy to finally find a solid Mexican spot in Austin. It's been hard finding places that taste like actual Mexican food instead of Tex Mex, and this is the closest I've had to home so far. I'm from Los Angeles for reference, so I've been searching for something that reminds me of the really good spots back there. I got the chicken enchilada with carne asada and all rice. The carne asada was juicy and flavorful, definitely the star of the plate. The chips and salsa were so good I finished two bowls before the meal even came out. The chicken enchilada was just okay and probably not something I'd order again. Next time I'd get more meat instead. The rice was also really well made, which has been surprisingly hard to find around Austin. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but easily one of the better spots I've tried here. We found this authentic restaurant after a show at Emos! We were so glad they were still open but keep in mind they are cash only! The food server greeted us quickly and was very prompt with their service. We started with drinks and the queso which was my absolute favorite! I would come back just to get that! It was very flavorful and went perfectly with the tortillas and chips. We then ordered burritos and they came soon after. My husband got the wet burrito and I ordered the California Burrito. I came like thirty minutes to close and they did not show their annoyances one bit! Not only that but somehow I stumbled into the best Mexican food in Austin. It's clearly authentic and not done up to match the Austin fakeness. I had the best chicken tortilla soup I've ever had and the quesadillas and enchiladas had so much meat in them! This is my favorite hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in all of Austin - it's where I take out of towners to show them what real Tex Mex is all about. It's not fancy, and you do better there if you speak some Spanish, but the food is incredibly good. Try the Tampiqueno Plate and thank me later! Soooo good. Plus, they have a liquor license, which some of the other Arandinas spots do not have. What their margaritas lack in extraordinary taste (they're just ah'ight), they make up for in size - we're talking a fishbowl the size of my head (!) - and price. Their chilaquiles and enchiladas are also legit and the service is both really nice and really fast, even when they get crowded. read more

This is my first one star ever and it's not even about the food, it's about the management. This was my second time eating at this restaurant, and we had just paid and stop by a bar in the same shopping center. We come back and my car was towed. Even though there are no distinguishing marks or signs to separate the bar parking lot from the restaurant parking lot someone called the tow company anyways. We go in and talk to host and even though he wasn't the one that called he confirmed it was a person hired by the owner just to call the tow truck. I tried explaining the confusion but the host couldn't do anything, the dispatch couldn't do anything and the tow company obviously wouldn't do anything unless I paid. It's a shame cause I though I would make this place a regular stopping area before this cost me $300 so I guess I won't be back read more

This place was kind of like a hole-in-the-wall. It was also one of the only places opened during the winter storm. The food was decent and served in a large portion. However, the tacos were slightly dry and burnt. The water was tap water with a very interesting and distinct smell of mildew. As an alternative, I would suggest trying Rosita's Al Pastor food truck nearby instead. read more

Waited 5 minutes and in that time 2 other tables came in one with a single Latino male and the other table was two Latino males. They immediately got served by the server with server with shorter hair. Had to walk up to the waitress desk to request service. At first we thought it was just not her section. Then a table walked in of a Latino mom and daughter one table from us and the same waitress served them immediately. Food was really good and the waitress( with the orange nails) that came over to help after we had to say something was amazing. However if you are a person of color or interracial couple just be aware of our experience because we looked at every reason that short haired waitress could serve the whole room except our table. I hadn't had beef in some time and this was extremely juicy and full of flavors. This review is for the service and staff only, as I never received any food. I placed an order on DoorDash, and the order was cancelled because the restaurant told the Dasher that someone else had picked up my order. Okay, it happens. I get it. DoorDash was awesome and quickly gave me a refund. So I decide to try again, but this time I place a pick up order. I drive to the restaurant, and they tell me the same thing they told the Dasher--that someone else picked up my order. It should be easy enough to clear up the confusion. I did, after all, place the exact same order as the delivery order. But none of the staff speak or understand a word of English, making communication impossible if you don't speak any English. From what I could gather, they were trying to claim that I didn't pay for my pickup order, but I showed them my email receipt for when DoorDash charged me for the pickup order. Nope. Not enough. They call DoorDash, and asked DoorDash to explain to me that my order was picked up my someone else. I explained to the DoorDash person that they are confusing the delivery order with the pickup order. They took back the phone and spoke in Spanish. Based on my Google Translate app, it appeared they were disputing with DoorDash about payment. I think they then put DoorDash on hold to answer other calls. I waited around 10-15 minutes and spoke to DoorDash via the chat feature on my app. I asked the staff if they were planning to give me food or if I should just leave. They didn't answer me. So I left. NEVER coming back. The place looked like an unsanitary dump anyway. read more

Finding authentic Mexican food can be quite easy if you know where to look! You can't really rely on apps like Yelp as they are oversaturated by popular spots which tend to lean to Americanized or TexMex joints (which are good too, but they mostly aren't authentic!) A good place to start is to drive to Riverside Dr and you'll see many. Taquerias Arandinas is one of my favs. My favorite plate to get is the Alambres Especiales which comes with beef fajita, sausage, bacon, onion, bell pepper, and cheese - as well as beans and rice of course! Absolutely delicious! They have a big menu with tons of options so you can't go wrong with anything here. My Mexican mother loves this place, so I know it's legit. read more

Recently moved to the neighborhood and love Mexican food so it was just a matter of time before I was going to make it in. On my way back from Downtown late and made the move. Tons of room, greeted when I walked in, seat yourself. Chips and salsa made it out super quickly and my server spoke no english really so I had to dust off my Spanish. I've been trying to do that more, especially living in ATX. Ordered without incident. Food came out very quickly and looked appetizing. Very good price to value, tacos were very big and enchiladas made a great lunch the next day. Guisada could have been a little more tender, but the ground beef had great seasoning. The enchiladas could have been better with more flavor on the chicken. Chicken was a little dryer than I'd like. Service was friendly and even when a ton of people rushed in after a concert across the street, my server never got swamped and disappeared. Will definitely be back to make my way around the menu.
