If it's an upbeat café you're after, this husband+wife team at LuDy (named after the couple's 2 children) are bringing their Melbourne coffee culture to quaint Irvington, NY. They partner with Proud Mary Coffee to bring coffee to the masses, Flour Power from Pelham, NY to offer scrumptious baked goods and Spirit Tea. Judging by the number of people I found sitting at the tables chitchatting with their friends/co-workers, etc during my Tuesday 11am visit, this is the place for a hangout over bites and beverages. Since their June '24 opening, LuDy's owner is setting himself apart in the community and is the epitome of a friendly neighborhood cafe. They didn't take my name, which is my biggest coffee shop pet peeve, but luckily it wasn't busy so I was able to hear when they called out my drink. The latte was good and I could tell the espresso was high quality. Unfortunately I couldn't get the wifi to connect, so it's a good thing I had my book with me. The table I chose (high top with metal chair) was not super comfortable and part of the table was broken, so it was a little precarious. The bathroom was clean. It's a cool concept, as they also have a bar serving beer and wine, and it looks like a nice community space with events. And it's dog-friendly. If I lived in the area I think I would come here often!

The owner Pumpkin greets you like you are part of her family. She is probably the most welcoming owner that I have ever met. As the space is small, the book selection is also pretty small (Black story focus both nonfiction and fiction). However, you can order books through Nefer's Bookshop.org link and still support them. Drink selection, especially the coffee is GREAT! And Pumpkin can make custom orders too. I hope this business continues to grow and thrive.
