Came here after basketball with my buddy Will, who swears he could eat Mexican food every day. This is his spot, so I pretty much ordered everything he did except i added beans. I've been to the Araujo's on the east side of San Jose before, but this North Valley location feels much cleaner and more modern. Here is my take. Food (4 stars) + Super burrito was loaded and satisfying. Carne asada was flavorful and the pastor was strangely juicy. It was dripping orange oil but I'm not complaining because it's still very good. I love how their kiosk ordering allows up to 2 meat options. The meat to rice to beans ratio is spot on. (4.5 stars) * Salsa bar has a good variety. The green salsa was good but I actually liked the orange salsa a little better. Be ready for a little post meal heat as the salsas hit you a little later. ~ I wish they'd give more tortilla chips because their salsas are so yummy. Came in 45 minutes before closing, but it was as if they were closing in 5 minutes. The sauce bar was already put away and most chairs were already stacked. It looked like they were finishing up mopping the floors and cleaning up to close. Service was very meh. The cashier informed us that it's to-go only. I'm actually glad I didn't discover this place any sooner, otherwise I would've spent hundreds of thousands by now. I found this place through doordash last week and have already ordered 5 times. I love the quality of the meat here, the flavor and smokiness is incredible. They are not stingy with the portions at all and are reasonably priced considering how much meat they load up in the tacos and burittos. The restaurant itself is also very clean and spacious and the staff is very friendly. I am very picky when it comes to burritos and this place is hands down my new favorite burrito spot. I ordered a veggie burrito which came with some tortilla chips. There's a good-sized salsa bar with 4-6 salsas to choose from which were all distinct. Veggie burrito was tasty and the beans tasted well-seasoned. Parking is a little confusing since the signs aren't very big and the restaurant is in the bottom of a big apartment complex, however, if you follow the arrows it'll take you to a garage with numbered spots off of Flea Market Place. I went a complete 360 with Araujo's. The old location on Senter used to be my favorite taqueria. They had the best al pastor. When covid hit, they fell hard. The meat just didnt taste good and the burritos just didnt hit the spot anymore and i stopped going. Fast forward to this location I changed to getting their fries. They use a spiral fry that holds up well and very crunchy. Although its pretty pricey the load up on the meat and toppings. The al pastor is good again and the salsas are always good. Ordered on doordash, tried the quesabirria. They're huge! A few issues I had though was too much cheese, not really a lot of meat, and lastly the onion and cilantro come on the side but I would rather order no cilantro and still have some onion or maybe if it came with some side radish that would help adding some freshness to the food. To drink I always try the horchata, it was okay, a little watery for me. They gave me side of orange and lighter oranger salsa that I came to find out was habanero. The portion size was decent, but it didn't really live up to what I would expect from a "super" burrito. The asada wasn't very tender and lacked the richness I usually enjoy, which was a bit disappointing. I ordered the shrimp burrito, added pinto beans and subtracted rice. It's a significant sized burrito. But, for nearly 18 dollars (not including tip) it should be! The shrimp were properly cooked but unseasoned. In fact the entire burrito lacked seasoning. The vegetables were raw (onions bell pepper) and the slices of tomato were mushy inside. I honestly have never had a burrito with raw bell peppers before ..... it wasn't horrible but can't say it's something I'd look to eat again. The burrito itself was so poorly wrapped that after two bites it literally unraveled in my hand spilling its contents from its bottom all over the foil and paper plate they served it on. Thank goodness for the Salsa bar ... I only got the Verde salsa which is my favorite salsa and I generally practically drink the stuff. The Verde salsa was ok... not much kick but it did help with the absolute blandness of the 'burrito' which was now more like and shrimp plate with a soggy tortilla. It was not the worst shrimp burrito I've ever had. I'm not ste that's praise but it is true. The Inside is ver modern looking metal chairs etc. and a TV screen the size of an entire wall towed the back. I initially sat by the window but on this extremely vild day one of the workers kept waking in and out talking on their phone letting the freezing air in so I moved by the tiled wall. Where unfortunately the tile was kinda gross with smears of dried food that had not been cleaned off. So... that was unpleasant. The staff taking the order and then giving you your food were quick and seemed efficient if not friendly. Maybe it was early in the lunch hour and they were not fully prepared for the few of us that had wandered in. Maybe it was an off day ... it wasn't terrible but not exactly good. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to come here again to give them another try. At this location, I've only had take-out but I've been to their other locations before so I know the Mexican food here is good. Huge plus bc this location is a lot closer to me. The first time around, I ordered carne asada fries and it was so good! For 2 people, it definitely was a shareable portion but bc of how tasty it was, we were wanting more. I like how unique the fries were cut/shaved, it's almost like shaving the skin off an apple in a spiral motion. I also like how fresh the pico de gallo and avocado toppings were. Unfortunately, 2nd time around it was a huge dud. The carne asada meat was well over cooked and dry, the fries were cut thicker so it was very potatoey, and there wasn't enough sour cream. Araujo's is huge. It's located right across from the San Jose Flea Market so you're able to show and then stop by for a meal after. What impressed me most about Araujo's was their bathrooms, honestly. They have enough stalls available and they were clean. The food thoguh - I got their carnitas tacos on my most recent visit and they tasted good and hit the spot after a morning trek around the flea market. They have four different types of salsa available, which is great, but I wish they had pico de gallo as an option. The area is spacious and clean and a good option to have if you're in the area. Food: Carne Asada Fries - Half Portion (All toppings included): 4.5/5 I love carne asada fries and it's typically my go-to item whenever we do get Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. The portion size for s half portion is hefty. Picture posted honestly doesn't do it justice because there was a lot packed inside of that container. The bottom is loaded with the wedge fries or steak fries? (No one quote me on the name of that fry cut). It's a thicker cut, which is fine, but I personally prefer your standard classic French fry look. My preference is to have a good ratio of crispiness to softness from the inside of the potato. With the thicker cuts, I find that there's too much potato and starch for me. Besides that, I enjoyed everything else. All of the toppings were included here, which included tomatoes, avocado pieces, pico de gallo, sour cream, avocado salsa, and the carne asada. Typically, I don't enjoy tomatoes at all, but I'll make the exception for this dish. They dice it up nicely too, so it's more palatable for me. Overall, flavor wise, delightful. There's something about this dish that's just so comforting. A combination of all the ingredients work very well together. The meat was cooked all the way through without being dry, nice flavor to it. The tomato and salsa added a freshness to it. Sauces and salsas bring it together and adds some richness to it. Sauces: Delightful There is a whole sauce and salsa bar parallel to the door. They allow you to pick whichever ones you want. I got the salsa and an orange sauce. Personal favorite is the orange sauce. It's very rich, has a nice kick, and adds another flavor component to the carne asada fries. This is one of the sauces that continued to build as I ate it, so just a fair caution. I'm never one to finish even half a portion, let alone a full portion. The half portion provide a heft amount, as well. For the half portion of carne asada fries, the total for my meal came out to be $13 after tax and tip. The pricing is going to vary depending on what you choose. If it's just a taco, the price might range from $5 to $8, but if you get items like the fries or a burrito perhaps, the price range will be within $10 to $20. Personally, I've never been fond of hitting other people's chairs or having to maneuver and wiggle out between the chairs at a restaurant. There is an open sauce bar in the back, which is nice. Location/Parking: Optimal The shop faces the road, so quite easy for people to see as they are passing by. It's located within the same row of shops where Haiku Teahouse is. There is a parking lot that is on the same row as these shops. It was fairly easy to find and there is optimal parking spaces here. Definitely have never had a concern with trying to find a parking spot here. Something I will note is how the parking lot is structured. It works in terms of trying to maximize space, but they really need to make their signs more noticeable because they create parking spots on the side ends too. You can zigzag and even cut through at the end as long as there are no cars parked there. If there is, you're pretty much at a dead end and will have to circle back if you wanted another spot farther down near the walking entrance/exit. read more

The restaurant is spacious, there is good lighting, and the workers are friendly. One time, I could not remember for the life of me what the carne asada fries were called and the cashier waited patiently while I tried to find a photo of the dish in my camera roll. There is a self-serve sauce bar by the seating area. Also, we can't forget the "Feed me tacos and tell me I'm pretty" fluorescent lit sign. The best food here for me was either the carne asada fries or nachos. The toppings on them are similar and generous. They also come in a large portion that you can share with other people or save a part of it for later. I have tried the tacos here as well, but I think those were less memorable. Especially since we went later in the day. Basically around 730pm dinner time. After a long day people get tired but the staff was vibrant and very helpful! Araujo's was okay, but there were a couple of disappointing moments. We ordered carne asada fries, but they never came. When I asked the employee about it, she told me I never ordered it--which wasn't true. I clearly remember asking for it, and even my friend heard me place the order. The employee even repeated it back to me. Luckily, another employee stepped in, checked our receipt, and confirmed it was on there, so they offered to make it. There was also a mistake with the taco salad--we ordered it with al pastor, but it came with beans instead. At that point, we didn't feel like making a fuss, but it was definitely frustrating to deal with two order issues. The restaurant itself is modern and nice inside, but parking is a bit confusing. It's attached to an apartment complex, and while there is a parking area, it's unclear if it's for residents or customers. I ended up parking in the plaza nearby. I just devoured a bomb burrito! Been going to Araujo's El Paisa for years since it was a parking lot on Senter/Capitol, and then the Story/King location as that was closer to me. I'm glad they built a new one closer to me in Berryessa, right by the new Safeway and flea market area. Parking is a bit tricky as they have limited guest spots in the garage. No open space but I was able to find a spot outside with a 2 hour limit and walk around to the front. When you walk inside, you'll be greeted with the cute sign. Bathrooms to the left. Surprisingly the bathrooms were really nice! They have a salsa bar! One of the biggest reasons I go to a taqueria is due to the selection of open salsa bars. They had a lot of great options. I think my favorite was the orange and green guac one. It tasted great with my free chips included in the meal. I ordered the super burrito with half Carne asada and half al Pastor (you can see it cooking on the stick!). It came out to about $15.50 after tax. Wow the burrito was amazing. This is definitely one of my favorite burrito spots. They don't skimp out on the portions either. At this location, you can pick and choose as you please. Plus you can even get more radishes and lemons. I think the other places removed that option. Everything was well-seasoned and they are generous with their portions! I highly recommend the Carne Asada Fries. The fries are sooooo crispy and the asada was very flavorful.
