    Quesabirria tacos with consommé
    Christina S.

My kids and I were craving some yummy tacos for lunch. We found this restaurant not too far from their school, and noticed they had a handwritten World Cup Specials menu on their counter. We each opted for the World Cup Menu special that included 2 quesabirria tacos with consommé and salsa for $10. My son had two carne asada tacos. We also ordered the chips and creamy green salsa appetizer. Our server was very friendly. Inside it had a clean atmosphere and some fun World Cup decor added. Next time when we have a bigger appetite, we'll be back for a full plate with all the sides.

New kid on the block.... Or rather new Taqueria on the block...literally. LOL. I saw my Yelp in arms comrade Nicole post a glowing review of El Tacoqueto and decided to give it a go... We came in for dinner within one hour of closing on a Sunday evening. Slow day; there was nobody inside, a few kids waiting outside for an order to go, a few orders for pick up. El Tacoqueto replaced El Buen Gusto Taqueria, so the interior layout is still the same. However, the inside is cleaned up and is now brighter and more inviting. Parking still that same, it's tight during peak hours. ~ SPECIALS: ALAMBRE - 4.5/5 Beef asada, pork carnitas, pork chorizo, bell peppers, onion, tomato, cheese, tortillas and chpotle salsa. This was brilliant. While it's the most expensive thing on the menu, it's a decent amount of food. Choose to share or eat by yourself, its filling. accompanied with warm Tortillas. ~ TACOS: - BEEF BARBACOA - 4/5 - PORK CHORIZO WITH GRILLED ONION - 4/5 - RIB EYE WITH GUACAMOLE - 4/5 All the tacos were solid, albeit slightly on the pricier side. Then again...that food inflation is no joke... The Chili oil at the table was brilliant! While wasn't all that spicy, it had a good warm mouthfeel to it and a tasty flavor profile. It did make me sweat like crazy... lol Simple menu. Solid spot. No issues coming back...

Let's just say that after trying it for the first time, we were back again in about 14 hours! Our top three favorites were *drum roll* Alambre (sharing portion - or not!), barbacoa taco with guac, and the famous rib eye taco with guac! The other meats were also perfectly seasoned and could be enhanced by the side sauces. The tortillas were made from scratch! We were witnesses to Genesis of these handmade goodness. Their totillas reminded us of the ones made by the grandmas in Mexico from our recent travel (that has to be the best compliment by far!) Their customer service was top notch! We were checked from time to time, and the owner even came over to our table to make sure that our needs were met. Alfredo really cared about our experience and our honest feedback. Overall the food and dining experience are 5 out of 5! This is a great spot for casual dining with friends and families. They have definitely paid attention to every detail in their decor and ambiance of the taqueria. I am now going to be a frequent flyer of this spot!

$4 for a soda-can? Food was ok, not up to the price, this place has always been overprice even with the previous management/name when the business was expanded to the place next door. While I was waiting for my food I saw a couple came in and after checking the menu, they walked out, I guess they saw the high prices and say: no way!

Quick summary: 4.5 stars, good food, a little high of a price point, nothing revolutionary outside of the Asada and Ribeye options. Other meats were good and juicy, worth a try if you want to mix it up. From the remains of El Buen Gusto are 2 shops that summarize east San Jose well. A banh mi shop and a taco joint. El tacoqueto is not fancy, but it ain't grimy either. A lot of the character of the old restaurant is still there. The environment feels like someone saw an opportunity to open a restaurant and jumped into it knowing that improvements can be made later. The food is slightly pricey, but comes with 2 salsas, some slightly grilled onions, a grilled pepper, chopped fresh onions, and cilantro. You also get a squirt bottle of chili oil, a little went a long way. Salsas were good, nothing mind blowing but not offensive either. I ordered one of each taco, wanting to give it all a try. The cabeza, barbacoa, and carnitas tacos were fairly standard essj fair, juicy and moist and tasted of good meat. The carne asada taco was my favorite of the 5. The char was excellent and the meat had a very great chew. Often in San Jose you get two types of carne asada, the rounded cut up slightly gray and soft chunks. It is juicy and full of flavor but does not have the bite of steak. The second is what El tacoqueto offers, cut up cubes of steak, slightly drier than the other version but makes up for it in beefy chew and a meaty texture, often paired with a char that takes it to the next level. I saved the ribeye taco for last. It was excellent but had one major flaw depending on your taste and wants. The guacamole was too overpowering. The Guacamole was excellent, very citrusy, green, and full of flavor, but in comparison to the thin slice of ribeye, the balance of the taco bite was lacking in meaty flavor. The tortillas felt fresh, not sure where they're sourced from or made in house, but they did have that edge of machine cut tortillas. They held together great and tasted pretty good. One man shop on a friday afternoon at 2pm the person behind the counter was friendly and checked up on me once. Service doesn't matter much to me, but it was hard figuring out where to order when first walking in. I'll come back here again, hopefully they last long enough to get a remodel and an alcohol license. There is a lot of competition, as there are 2 other taco trucks on this intersection. What this place has over them are a place to sit down, a restroom, and very clean taco that isn't incredibly greasy.

Their asada and ribeye were a bit too salty for my liking. The chorizo was my favorite one.

I love this place, the best Tacos and shrimp ceviche fresh meats and flavored. Estos si son Tacos

yummy well prepared tacoss!! flavorful and the sauces there were really tasty. i wish they were a bit more spicy and i wish the lime was more sour haha but they give a good amount of meat and the tacos are fresh and tender. the place itself is pretty big. good service there, really nice. i would definetly come back to try their guacamole tacos!

    Rib Eye Tacos

Went with my family to try it out for the first time. We ordered rib eye tacos and barbacoa tacos. They were absolutely good. The barbacoa tacos were one of my favorite because the meat was super juicy. Rib eye tacos were good too. We will definitely go again to try out the menudo and more tacos for sure. I really recommend this place.

My overall experience was amazing. I enjoyed the amazing tacos, quesadillas y pozole. The flavor was BOMB! the chef knows what he's doing. Another great thing to add is the customer service. 11/10 will come back

I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Both of the desserts were so good and a perfect touch of sweetness.

We waited 1.5 hours to be seated while half the restaurant sat empty. After we were seated, it took about 30 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted drinks, another 30 minutes before our order was taken, and then an hour for the food to arrive. Throughout the wait, several servers were gathered in the corner talking and laughing while tables--including ours--were left unattended. Unfortunately, the food didn't make up for the service. The meat was dry, lacked flavor, and the shrimp was so chewy that I couldn't finish it. It was honestly one of the worst shrimp dishes I've ever been served. I've seen countless influencers giving this place glowing reviews, and after eating here, I simply don't believe them. My experience was the complete opposite. If you appreciate good food and good service, I would strongly recommend spending your money somewhere else.

The staff were attentive, gave great menu recommendations, and constantly came by to refill our water. Very spacious dining room. We started with the Queso Fundido, served on a small hot plate with chilis, garlic, and oil on top. It's basically a block of cheese served with chips. Even with the hot plate, it didn't stay gooey for long, but it was a pretty good starter. The Coconut Campachano was creamy and refreshing. It also came with chips, though ours seemed like crumbs from the bottom of the barrel. We got the Trompo tacos and Sautéed Shrimp tacos. Both were tasty, and the tortillas seemed fresh. My wife is Latina, so we're pretty familiar with authentic Latin/Mexican flavors, and from the moment we walked in, we were a little unsure of what to expect. We completely understand we're in Willow Glen and that Copita is going for a more upscale take, but for us, authenticity and flavor still have to be at the heart of the experience. Our waitress was very friendly and polite, and this review is absolutely not a reflection of her service. However, when we asked about the style of the food, there seemed to be a little hesitation in explaining it, which made us even more uncertain about what we had gotten ourselves into. I don't like bashing restaurants or their food, so I'll simply say that, unfortunately, the highlight of our meal was the chips and salsa. The cocktails, on the other hand, were good and definitely not shy on the alcohol! Also, don't expect large portions. The restaurant is clearly aiming for a more upscale presentation and experience, so the plates reflect that. Overall, Copita just wasn't for us. This was our first visit and unfortunately will probably be our last. I genuinely wish them success, but I think a few changes, especially when it comes to the flavors and authenticity of the food could make a big difference.
