So at the moment, I have to settle for specific spots for specific Thai's dishes I crave for instead of the Thai place! I was skeptical at first with I first saw avocado listed on the menu with the green curry. Now I'm hooked after eating it multiple times now. I definitely recommend it! At $17 and come with a bowl of steamed white rice, it's more than a bargain for a satisfying and filling meal for this economy! The taste is consistent on point and delicious. What I love is the packed and generous offering of vegetables: fresh avocado, fresh Chinese eggplant, and canned bamboo shoots! You can pick your own protein. I prefer tofu after had it with chicken, beef, and shrimp. Thai's iced coffee $5 is standard for its typical profile. Prompt and efficient service. Two benches for outdoor sitting. read more

Was recommended by a friend to try. It was quiet and chill the day I went which was nice. The coconut shrimp was def the star. I really liked being able to taste the coconut on it. The pad kee mao was pretty good too with chewy noodles and a good sauce. It was pretty quick to order and get our food. When I first there, I wasn't sure if I should wait for someone help greet me or just sit wherever so it was a little awkward but overall good experience. read more

I have come to this place since I first moved to Portland in 2006. After I was introduced to salad rolls I became obsessed. I discovered Thai BBQ was close to my house and made the most delicious rolls. Their peanut sauce set a high standard by which I judge all other restaurants by. We came by right after opening on an overcast Sunday. We were the first hungry people in for lunch. There's not a lunch menu on Sunday, so we ordered off the regular menu. I ordered the lemongrass chicken, another of our group the crispy basil and another the red curry with chicken. Our table also ordered the shrimp salad rolls. All our dishes were wonderful and the salad rolls very fresh. Leftovers were brought home and I recommend this great Thai place. We'll return and try something else from their menu. read more

Great location with sufficient parking - in the plaza right off of Sunnyside Rd and across from the hospital. We were looking for some Thai food and although we had received negative reviews from friends about their prior experiences, we wanted to give Original Thai BBQ a shot! The tofu pad see ew was DELICIOUS! Very rich flavor. Also, friendly service! The space had a really fresh and classy atmosphere with cute decor. During our visit, however, someone might have been messing with the lighting - the lights in the restaurant dimmed and changed intensity multiple times. I made confused eye contact with other curious customers too, but the lighting issue resolved itself. At around 4:30p on a Monday evening, there was no wait time and decent availability for tables. This is our go-to Thai place in Happy Valley. The carry out is always prepared well and packaged complete. The staff is super friendly and warm. Their food is excellent, give them a try! It took us a while to find them, because the location is obscure and can be tough to get in and out of with parking and the weird lot access. We order Panang Curry with (6) shrimp, spice level 3 about once every 2 weeks...best dish on their menu imho! Never dined in, but the ambience is nice and there are always tables full when we pick up. Support them, they're local and serve quality! You won't be disappointed, and it will become your go-to for authentic Thai Food in Happy Valley! read more

I have eaten at this restaurant many, many times. The prices are average, great food, abundance of food, good menu. I usually walk in and take home as I like to watch tv while eating. The Original Thai BBQ chain in southern California is one my favorite Thai places. When I was visiting Oregon and saw there was one close by to where I was staying, my cravings kicked in. I was a bit rushed when we first got in and ordered the Sate Chicken combo for take-out and was greatly disappointed. The chicken was very dry, and the friend rice lacked the usual flavor and was a very small amount. A few days later we were in the same strip mall with a group and decided to give them one more try. We came in at 7:05 PM and asked for table and were told they could not see us, because they closed at 8PM. I couldn't believe that 55 minutes before their stated closing time was too late to eat. So left and found another place that was more accommodating. read more

This place and the food I was amazing. Have driven by many times and always jam packed and for the first time we beat the rush. The service was fast and friendly. We sat in the main area and at first is was kinda thinking here goes the children screaming thing. But the mother and father were on spot with their child. I turned and nodded thanks. First time coming to this Thai food cuisine and I gotta say from going to a lot of other Thai food cuisines; the food is quite good. I used to work at a busy local Thai cuisine and I definitely know how it should taste. That lemon on top, along with the green onions and peanuts on the side and tender, fully cooked chicken. I like their Thai tea, not too overloaded, but not lacking any sugar or too much half and half. It was balanced and smooth. I also got their egg rolls, which were great and the sweet and sour chili sauce had great viscosity and taste, just next time, I'll ask for more sauce because they put very little sauce in the container. No biggie! The price isn't the cheapest, but not the most expensive. Great bang for your buck! Great food and awesome service! read more

The folks here were very friendly and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the "Can I take care of you?" when taking my order. I got a spring rolls with tofu and pad see ew with tofu. The food was excellent and really hit the spot. The only downside was the Christmas music playing on the tv that quickly went from the typical mix of artists singing the classics to a style that felt like a Christian worship service. Thankfully by the time I tuned into this shift I was finishing up my meal. I couldn't get out of their fast enough at that point. read more

We tried this restaurant in January 2023 for lunch. The service was slow despite very few patrons dining and the server was not attentive. We both ordered a special not on the regular menu: Fried rice with Chinese sausage for $17. The dish, which I ordered medium spice, was dry, tasteless, and had an added carrot/pea blend not in the photo advertising the special that I picked out of the dish. The total for two dishes and a Sprite apiece was $38. The venue is located in a strip mall in a business park. There are 12 4-tops, some of which have been combined for larger parties. The venue had a lower-end sports bar feel with the television above the drink station playing sports with the volume on. Overall, their atmosphere, dish, and service were all mediocre. Not unpalatable, but I will likely toss my leftovers. 2/5 stars. read more

We were long time patrons of Tom Yum Thai off woodstock, but since moving to the neighborhood this is our new favorite! Everything is good. Seriously- everything we have ordered is so delicious. They've changed management since the last time I've been here. I wasn't in the mood for my usual drunken noodle dish as I had noodles numerous times throughout the week. I went with the curry this time (started with an M). My coworkers ordered their usual, stir fry. The curry was nothing special, I've had better elsewhere. Towards the end of our meal, my coworker saw something black in her food, picked it out and asked us if it was a bug. Neither of us knew and she poked at it with her finger and it started to ooze, it was definitely a bug. She caught an employee's attention, he apologized and comped her meal. It wouldn't have been worth a mention if this was the first time, but at a recent visit, she also found a hair in her food, all within a month. I was not done with my curry and lost my appetite, didn't even want it to-go. As we were walking back to work, we noticed the back door of the kitchen open, where insects could easily enter. I had an upset stomach shortly after, unsure if it was due to the food I ate or just a side effect of seeing a bug of my coworkers food. I usually am not a huge pineapple rice fan (I prefer my rice just savory; not sweet) but the pineapple fried rice here is SO good I ended up eating more than half of my husband's meal! I ordered the duck, which had flavorful and really crispy skin, but while the exterior meat was moist, the interior meat was very dry. It comes with a tasty orange dipping sauce but the texture of the meat wasn't my favorite even with the sauce. The duck came with a really flavorful side of shrimp rice though.
