This place is rundown and the staff is few and ridiculous. Meds are stolen. The food is garbage, no beauty shop. No ban to take us places. Call lights are a joke. And there are no healthy snacks put out for residence. The staff is nice at some things. All male staff on Sunday's with I hate. I like my apartment. But I need timely help when I ask for it. It is in the middle of refurbishing. But my room is ok. read more

Run down and not all that clean! Had an infection while there and the staff told me to give it one more day to improve, I didn't and when I got to the hospital the ER doctor told me that I would have been gone had I waited even a few more hours! My mother has been a resident at the Arcadia Retirement VillAge now for three months so I thought I have seen enough to give an unbiased review. I am a Registered Nurse, and wanted to take care of mom myself, I had my mother living with me but her ability had deteriorated to the point that she could not be left alone for hours anymore while I was at work. I would come home and hear that the tv was broken because she had pushed the input button and now it said "no signal. Two times she had fallen and was in the floor. She was unhappy and lonely on the days when I worked. It became very stressful. When I came home I had to spend the first few hours every evening getting her straightened out so she was fed, cleaned. Every night we fought because she wanted her TV volume at 60, and I wanted to sleep. I was spending all my free time trying to make her happy, and she was always unhappy. I was frustrated that I was either having to take her with me every time I went anywhere or just stay at home. I knew there were places she could cared for, but I had done clinical at nursing homes in school. I remembered the smells, and patients who yelled all day long, their lack of privacy, or even motivation to get up and get dressed. They seemed like places to "wait to die". I didn't want to put her in one of those. She needed something that would give her a sense of purpose. Finally a really good social worker mentioned the Arcadia Retirement Village to me. I read the reviews on here, and I was hesitant based on them. But my mother had no assets and a small income I can pay some for her care, I am not able to afford the "fancy communities"that get the rave reviews. Also as a nurse, I know that people who write reviews often do it because they have an axe to grind. People tend to compare the care to what they feel they would do for their parents, and forget how much time and energy it takes. They feel guilty for making the decision to get help, and as a result have unrealistic expectations. Arcadia Retirement Village has been great for both of us. With their activity schedule, her quality of life has really improved. She can sit in the courtyard and play cards with her new friends and share stories. She sings karaoke on Thursdays (and I come and sing with them). She plays bingo. I knew the activity schedule, and went with her to make sure she got into the "swing of things". Now she has a reason to get up every day, and "get fixed up" so the guys there can tell her she looks good. These are the things that give people a sense of individuality, and purpose. The location is great. It is close to the Santa Anita Mall, and a million restaurants so I can take her out several times a week. She even got to have a pet to keep her company. They bring food to her apartment three times a day, and bring her medicine to her twice a day. They clean her apartment daily. I have never seen anyone be anything less than cheerful and helpful to her (and she can be a pill at times). I chose to do her laundry myself- it saves money, and I can visit while doing it (they have a coin laundry). The manager Gil is very nice. The activity director, Neatriss is a jewel. She gets to know the residents. She reminds them when it's time for an activity they like to do. I have gotten to know several of the residents myself. We talk about their lives, and things they have seen, and done. It is so important to acknowledge people as individuals, and let them tell you about their lives. The food could be better, but thats true anywhere. She has a small refrigerator in her apartment, and I keep it stocked with her drinks and treats in case she wants something else. I did have to get cable and wifi for her but that's expected. I have not seen any bugs, and there are no unpleasant odors. Mom is happy, and now has a social life. I can still take her out shopping, or out to dinner anytime and don't need "permission" . She lives there and can come and go as she pleases. I am happier too. I spend plenty of time with her where we have fun together. I am not worried (or feeling guilty) when I am not with her. I know she will be fine as they check on everyone several times a day. I am so glad I found this place. It give just as much care she she needs without making her feel like she is a "patient". I recommend it for anyone who cannot quit work to give their parents all of their time. We are both happier, and healthier. It means a lot to me that she has friends to talk to, a cat care for, and is no longer lonely if I am not with her. They do a great job! read more

I visited this Retirement Village go meet with someone to visit one of the residents. Upon my arrival, I felt immediately unwelcome. I asked the desk where I could find "John" (I am not sharing the name for privacy) and they asked where I was from. I mentioned that I was a close friend of "Jane" and I was there to see her dad who is a resident and that Jane is expecting me. The lady at the front was rude, said there was NO person who came in recently by that name and they cannot assist me. I called "Jane" who told me she was upstairs and would come down to escort me. I don't know what's wrong with this community, it worries me that they can treat their visitors in that manner so I cannot even begin to imagine how the residents are treated. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. read more

This place is horrible... if you love or care for your family members do not send them here they will be miss treated. They have a bad roach problem, and they have staff there that steel from the residence when they're cleaning their rooms. The food is horrible and not even worth eating they do not even have a dietitian to put together meals. read more

If your parents were abusive and negligent during your childhood put them here and they will get their just deserts! I spent 3 months there and I found it shoddy with inconsistent care levels that border on neglect. My mother lives here and since the new owners took over ( a doctor no less) the quality and accountability has gone down. The nursing staff our great as is some of caregivers, however it seems they don't communicate with each other. The new owners are CHEAP-- had to make the fix air/heat in my mother's room-- always excuses. My mom was here for 7 years and I saw it go from a nice place to live with the old owners, to a dreadful ruin with the new owners. First of all, the grounds are not that well maintained. Plants are dying, planters are overrun with weeds. It used to be very light and cheery when you walked in, but I guess they are trying to save money on electricity because it's very dark. The lighting is kept to a minimum throughout the day in the dark hallways, the air conditioner units don't work very well so it's also very warm in the client's bedrooms. I had to bring in a separate fan to keep my mom cooled off. Over the years my mom became bedridden and was unable to care for herself. Also in that time, the amount of care that was given to her seemed to diminish as well. Baths or showers were infrequent, changing of her clothes was essentially nonexistent, when we threatened to move her to a skilled nursing facility because I saw her trying to eat with her hands due to the fact that she has gone blind, they said they would feed her for us on a daily basis as not to lose our business. Well, I walked in on my mom several times when she was still trying to feed herself after we were paying money for them to do it. I questioned three caregivers one weekend about why my mom wasn't being fed and they told me they were never told they had to feed her (this after we had been paying extra for 2 months, just how many meals my mom actually got I have no idea). They also said that she feeds herself and eats everything, this after I saw an entire plate of food go to waste because she was unable to do it. I called the administrator, Lordes, and left a message. Waited an hour, no call back. I called her again and she acted like she was surprised at what I was telling her, but it was obviously an act. I moved my mom to a board and care facility that next week because of the blatant lies. My mom is on hospice due to her malnutrition and I blame the facility for this. In the 6+ years she was in a particular room, the carpet was never cleaned. When you are unable to see and food is going on the floor, the carpet will eventually need to be shampooed. This never happened. In fact, I would have to ask them to vacuum the carpet. I saw a dead cockroach in her room once and left it there just to see how long it would take for them to clean it up, it was months. We moved my mom into a shared room so she wouldn't feel so isolated. The floor was laminate and every time I walked in there, the floors were sticky. Don't they change the mop water?! Also her over the bed tray was sticky. I always had to wipe it off because obviously they weren't. There was jelly on her bed so this tells me they weren't helping her eat. She rarely had a glass of water on her table, and when she did, it had mold growing in it because they wouldn't change the cups...ever. One of the last times I went to visit, there was an ant problem in the room and there was a garden spider on my mom's bed. Her sheets were dirty and when I asked if housekeeping could change them, they said they didn't have any spare sheets. Really? Don't waste your time with this place. If you want assisted living for your loved ones, there are better facilities out there than this. We moved mom to a board and care and she was happy at last. read more

Nursing care is not always predictible. We needed someone to care for my husband when he was found unconsvious at our home and i was out of town at my mother's funeral. The administrator Mary and her staff stepped in while other facilities were still returning my call. When my husband's meds were missing, Mary sent one of the staff t pick up a refill. The staff members Mike, Laura, and Star were particularly helpful and attentive to his med requirements and personalneeds. The food was bland but the menu had lots of variety and they tried to make him something he liked. You must bring everything you need like soap, facial tissue, toothpaste etc but thats to be expected. The floor catetaker checked in several times a day and at meal times. We appreciated the care each of the staff members showed. We recommend this facility and would return if needed. read more

The facility has been under new management for 1-2 yrs. Nice facility, should use more renovations in rooms et., bathrooms need overhauling, windows need new screens, carpets need deep cleaning or new carpets, furniture is substandard some furniture is broken, definitely need new beds, linens are clean but should be turned over to be new. Funny, when I first saw the facility they gave me a tour, from day 1 move in, the rooms looked exactly the same as to the first time I saw them. I was told that if I left a deposit they would have a DEEP CLEANING. I don't think that happened and if it did they did a terrible job. I think this is really important if you have to move a "LOVED ONE" into a "assisted" living facility. For the amount of people-staff the ratio seems wrong for a facility that houses over 75+ people. Staffing during the day is sufficient but nights and graveyard are very slim. I was told by the administrator that by law they only need 1 person on staff during the evening.....HUH? For 75+ senior citizens that seemed wrong almost on the verge of neglect. read more

This place has a heartwarming atmosphere. Stuff work with smile and doctors are very responsible and of course friendly. My grandmother was happy staying there. And they are always trying to improve this place. They have a lot of events such as music and some games. You won't be bored here. Thank you for everything. read more

This facility is well maintained, and the staff are very kind and professional. The food is served hot and is always of high quality. The facility is not part of a larger out of state corporation, and because it is locally owned by a group of doctors and nurses it shows pride of ownership. If you want your loved ones to be starving, looking like a beggar not being changed, and living in a disgusting environment. Then this is the place for them. The caregivers seemed not to know how to answer my questions regarding my mother about her care. The administrators were hard to get a hold of and the front desk ladies did not seem to know what they doing. Stop saying sorry and do something, get me the person I wanted to speak to. read more

this is the worst place to work or put anyone you care about in this facility. it is dirty, it is unorganized, unprofessional, they abandon and neglect the residents and treat them like dirt. i have worked here for over a year now and i've seen from the inside what goes on at this place and the things that go on here are illegal and unethical. read more

My Mom lived here for 2-1/2 years and was very happy here. The genuine, personal care and respect given to her by the caregivers, staff and management is unsurpassed. This is not a good review but one that we wish to report and protect our older population that need help. In assisted living. Assisted living should meet the health safety,social and emotional needs of each resident. Not drugging to control them or just leaving them alone in there rented rooms except for meals bathing and grooming. A resident that is aloud to fall over and over again with hospital stays is not assisting in living. read more
