It's a problem how delicious this place is. It's not only the absolute yummiest ice cream you can find in Humboldt county (unless you're making it yourself...and even then) but it's organic and earth friendly. The flavors are out of this world (maple nut, grasshopper, chocolate orange) and whether you get a homemade cone or eat it in a pretty, locally made ceramic bowl there's no styrofoam or plastic involved. Even the testing spoons are reusable. Arcada DID need another ice cream shop! read more

This little ice cream shop is cute and fantastic! The woman behind the counter (the one who is always there) wears the cutest aprons and her hair looks like soft serve! The decor is interesting and nice. Most of all the ice cream is absolutely delicious! The flavors with coffee are the best coffee ice creams I've ever had! It isn't too sweet and the flavors are interesting and taste fresh and oh so yummy. The portions are big and the cones are scrumptious too. I don't think the third ice cream shop of Arcata will have any trouble surviving at all. read more

This is a place I proudly take out of town visitors. The ice cream is in a category by itself, somewhere north of bliss and to the west of inspiring. And the flavors... Honey Vanilla Lavender, Earl Grey...be still my heart. My daughter doesn't eat any dairy but this is not an impediment to spending many enjoyable mother/daughter dates at the Scoop. The non-dairy flavors which are often coconut- or hazelnut- milk based and sometimes agave sweetened, making them uber-virtuous and great for folks with any number of dietary restrictions, are as delicious as anything on the menu. I love that there's a spot for kids to play 'Ice Cream Shop' while at the ice cream shop. There's also a pretty spot to sit outside on the rare warm day. Yes the ice cream is delish (I've had comparable before), yes, the waffle cones were homemade and fresh (slightly thinner and crispier than I've had before), yes the atmosphere is unique and homey. Amazing place! There are 2 options for us nondairy folks. I don't feel like I am eating sweetened chemicals like at another place in Humboldt. When I want to indulge in a cold treat, I cannot think of a better place to go. Made locally, sourced locally and a variety of flavors that are delicious and inventive. The décor is kid friendly and there is outdoor seating that is well decorated as well. Definitely a favorite spot to go with friends and family. Well done! read more

Best place to grab some ice cream! I love that you can get a split scoops which gives you the opportunity to try out new flavors. Boysenberry swirl is like heaven! They only have it when the berries are in season of course, but when you see it on the menu it's a must try! This is a great place to take friends or family. It has a lot of interesting ice cream varieties that are always changing and they are made with very pure ingredients so you know you are only going to get fat from cream and sugar rather than all sorts of chemical compounds you don't understand. The decorations are great and its just a great environment. I do wish they had some sherbets though...they usually have a single sorbet. read more

This is definitely the best ice cream you can buy. Its made with Strauss Creamery cream, need I say more? They also always have non-dairy options like sorbet and delicious non-dairy ice cream (somebody I know is lactose-intolerant and is stoked on the place). This place is amazing. The ice cream is all organic and the berries are all locally grown. I talked to the owner for a few minutes to get the skinny on how they operate. The ice cream is super fresh and all made on-site. The cinnamon is AMAZING!!! They try really interesting flavors blends and come out with some really cool flavors. They do also have your basic chocolate and vanilla. I visit arcata every couple I've months and this is always a mandatory stop. I actually brought a pint back to LA so the family could try some. If you try traveling with it though call one of the grocery stores and preorder dry ice. They don't carry it regularly. Please stop here, you won't regret it. read more

Oh Arcata Scoop, my long lost love. Living in the Bay Area now, I barely get to have Arcata Scoop (a true tragedy)! Arcata Scoop is a classic dessert and I've spent many nights with either my mom or best friend trying almost every flavor they offer! I have to say my favorite flavors to date are earl grey, grasshopper, and cinnamon. My mom likes lemon poppy seed and vanilla almond rose. As you can probably tell, Arcata Scoop makes fun and unique flavors that change everyday! However, they always have chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, and honey vanilla lavender (a favorite among many.) When you walk into the store, you can smell the cones being cooked and you can see the ice cream being made through the window behind the counter. Everything is made fresh, right there, with local ingredients if possible. If you go to Arcata Scoop every single day, you will always find something new and delicious to try. Not only do they have delicious and exciting ice cream flavors, but the store itself is really cool. The outside is bright blue and adorned with a giant wooden ice cream cone. On the inside, there are always freshly picked flowers, toys for kids, a giant, swinging giraffe bench, and quotes painted on the walls. It's cheap, the ice cream is all organic and always good, and the staff treats you like a human being. The atmosphere is fabulous; it's cozy and feels like a small-town ice cream shop (because it is a small-town ice cream shop), and it gets its ingredients from local farms. I recommend the strawberry, honey vanilla lavender, and coffee flavors. I'm not too hot on the cinnamon but to each their own.
