Called them based on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. The ice maker which had come loose in our Samsung refrigerator. HUGE MISTAKE - WE WILL NEVER USE ARCHER AGAIN. They finally showed up after cancelling out a couple of times. One guy wrestled with the refrigerator while the other one just babbled. He messed around for 2 hours finally removing the ice maker; charged $200, told us we needed a new one for almost $300 and left to "see if they could get one". We grew tired of their no shows, and it became obvious they were clueless on how to do the repair. Fortunately, we found MAX Appliance Repair. Max showed up on time and told us the ice maker was just fine. The MAX tech properly reinstalled our original ice maker in less than half an hour. It's been working fine ever since. read more

I have used James Archer for over 10 years for appliance issues with my own personal residence and also with some rental properties. I have found him to be very responsive and very well priced on numerous service calls over the years. He works hard to hold down cost, rather than replace expensive parts or recommend replacement of the appliance. I have used him for years and will continue to do so. read more

We give James $491 for services after 3 visits and should have known when he made us pay for parts upfront that he was a con artist. Our fridge never started working and he never returned calls or texts after he got his money. He just sat in a chair and told his son and son-n-law what to do like they were in training. We got scammed for sure. He even told my husband he had been incarcerated for theft... but it was small.. he's still doing it! Do not trust this man!!! I rarely write reviews. I'm kind of old fashioned in the sense that I like to resolve problems face to face. Here's my experience: Archers appliances was recommended by the guy at Lowes. When I called, (James) he preemptively told me he does not charge a service fee, he owns his business so he was going to do what he could to save me money. He also told me he's been on Angie's List for 5 years and I could trust him. My dryer worked but the clothes weren't drying and since James said no service fee I was under the impression he would diagnose the problem, give me a price to fix it and we'd go from there. When James (and his son) got to the house he turned on the dryer and went outside. Standing in the kitchen, I smelled a smell (like when a heater turns on). I went to the laundry room and see the vent hose disconnected and a massive clog of lint blocking the top. I reach my hand in the vent and pull out a massive lint clog. Probably 6 inches deep. I put my hand to the dryer, feel the air blowing is hot and quickly realize the lint clog was probably keeping the the dryer from working. I also realize James must know this as well, since he was the one whose removed the hose, he'd seen it before me. About 5 minutes later James come back inside and before I can tell him what I'd found he begins to tell me about 'several problems' he would have to 'fix'. As I listen, he doesn't mention the clog just 'all the things he'll have to do'. I (being a single mother and cognizant of how sometimes repairmen will take advantage of this) begin to understand he's making 'problems' so he could charge a lot. I told him, "no, the dryer is working, saw the clog at the end and pulled it out". So he starts saying things like 'oh well I need to cut this, and clean that". And I told him 'no, my dryer is working I don't need you to do anything else. Then he says 'You may as well let me do it it's included in the $149 fee". I told him I didn't expect him to do anything for free, but when he said there was no service fee (without me asking) I believed he would look at the problem, give me a price to fix and we'd go from there. I told him he should have told me the $149 fee up front and not said 'I don't charge a service fee, and other people do'. So he says 'Fine I'll just charge you $89'. He told me he'd put a vent on the side of the house (which I didn't ask him to do or agree to). I paid the $89 but am so upset at the deception. I pay every month for a home warranty that covers items like this, but figured I'd use a local person if he was reasonable rather than wait.. If he'd said he was charging regardless of a problem I would have considered my options before asking him to come out. $89 is alot of money to pay for 5 minutes of him standing outside while I fix the problem inside. He kept saying things and texting 'Have a blessed day' and the realization that he was so hypocritical just to make a few dollars made me feel like he was a snake. Like I said at the beginning, I rarely review but I hope this incident may provide some insight on how James and Archer Appliance actually operate, and perhaps prevent others from being taken advantage of. Obviously I'll be relaying my experience to Lowe's so they no longer recommend him to their customers. read more

Spent $200 to repair my refrigerator and repair a defective ice maker . Wish I would have read his online reviews before I did. The icemaker worked for three days before it broke again. BEWARE!!! DOES NOT EVEN DESERVE 1 STAR!!! My plumber who I trust 100% recommended having them come out to install a dishwasher for me as he does not offer that service. James Archer spoke with me and set up a time to do it. Re-scheduled from a Friday to Saturday. I had to contact him twice about an ETA before he responded and gave me one for today (Saturday) even stating that if he couldn't make it today I would have to make other arrangements. After the designated time came and went, he sent me a text saying they couldn't do it today after all as his helper injured himself asking if they could come Monday instead. I understand things happen, but he should have been honest if he had no other or reliable helpers to complete a job he agreed too and within the time frame I requested. After I responded this back to him, no response.So I began frantically trying to find someone else who may be able to do it today. While doing so, I received a message from one of his employees named Sergio saying Mr. Archer contacted him and asked if he would be willing to come out and do it for me. I contacted him back and he said no problem, text him my address, and that he'd be there in an hour. I though, great, I really appreciate him trying to solve the issue and going the extra mile to come through. Guess what? 7:00 came and went. I called Sergio at 7:20 p.m. to see if he was still coming, lost perhaps, etc., and my calls went straight to voice mail (which is conveniently full) and he refuses to respond to my texts asking him to at least have the courtesy to say he's not coming. So they literally made the choice to lie about scheduling another appointment! I have no idea how this place is in business and my plumber is shocked as well. So why they may have the ability to do great repairs and installs, they give zero sh*ts about you as a customer. Hell, I've had better experiences with Lowe's and Home Depot and if you've ever had to use them, you know how crappy they treat you! BTW, should anyone think I'm exaggerating, I am happy to show you the saved voicemails and texts that prove the legitimacy of this review. Save yourself the hassle and go ANYWHERE else. read more

It has now been two months of me texting and calling. He told me he would follow up and never did. He now does not answer. I paid for a service and within two weeks the same problem happened without any resolution. Description of work: The crisper on my refrigerator had ice build up. He came to fix it and two weeks later I had to call him about the same issue. He still has not done anything about it months later after multiple calls and texts. We made 2 calls to James - 1st call to let him know our 7yr LG washer was not draining during the rinse cycle but we let him know we needed some plumbing work done 1st. 2nd call was on a Saturday to schedule an appointment but he said he was available now & could come over. My husband made an appointment with James days in advance for Saturday from 11am- 1pm, needless to say he did not show up and did not answer calls. He subcontracted the work out to others, and after $360 and a series of mistakes we are still without refrigeration, and can't get a response from anyone. A simple communication letting us know they had exhausted all options and we should buy a new refrigerator would have been sufficient. DO NOT USE HIM, HE WILL RIP YOU OFF. I had him fix my icemaker and I paid him. He told me it would take up to 24hrs to make ice. After 3 days of no ice, I called him to tell him that it wasn't working. It took him 3 weeks (full of excuses) to come and "replace" my icemaker. Still not working. He is now ignoring my calls. I have all our conversations and work to be done, documented. He only accept checks so I cant get my money back. I used him because of his Angie's List rating but after looking at his Yelp, Yahoo and Google reviews, I see many people who were ripped off. James has fixed our dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. He's always been very reliable and he seems very knowledgeable about fixing our appliances. Most recently, a spring broke on the washing machine and twisted the door boot. We paid James up front for the parts. He had to make two trips to get all the parts to fix the machine. It required three visits to our home. We called him on Saturday and he came to our house to look at the problem on Monday (Labor Day) and it was all fixed by Tuesday. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Mr. Archer came to give us an estimate to fix our stovetop and microwave. He said he needed to order a part (that he asked my mom to pay him upfront for) and would have to take the microwave with him. A month passes and we hear nothing from him. I began calling him daily and leaving messages with no response back. I finally texted him saying I was going to press charges if I didn't hear back from him by the next morning, and lo and behold, I got a text back. He sent 2 guys out the next day to bring our microwave back and finish stove repairs. After all of this hassle, neither our stovetop nor our microwave were fixed properly. The worst part of this ordeal was that in the days following them reinstalling the microwave, we would open it to find baby cockroaches. We then had to deal with getting rid of cockroaches in our kitchen; a problem we have never had in the past. I have not even attempted to contact Mr. Archer to rectify the situation, nor do I plan to. I would rather take the loss than ever have to deal with this "company" again. read more

He was very nice on the phone, sent his guys out same day to replace the glass on my cook top. However, one of the burners was broken in the process meaning that it would not turn on after they replaced the cook top. The guys did not remove to the glass to verify if it was connected, they just assumed it was. They said their boss would call the next day and they would take care of it. That was January 20, 2016, it is now 04/12/2016 and he won't return my text or phone calls. Says he wants to take care of this. but has not taken any actions to do so. Came out to "fix" our Frigidaire oven 3 times and did not fix the problem. We paid for his service each time. After the last visit I called him several times and emailed him but got no response. Seems he doesn't want to honor his 30 day labor warranty or 90 day parts warranty. I would definitely NOT recommend James Archer.
