Lynn beat Bobby Flay with the Lobster Club. So, I had to give it a go. We sat outside on a beautiful day in clear view of the bay. Abby was a great server. Super nice and attentive. We ordered oysters on the half sell that were so fresh because Lynn's brother brings them to the restaurant everyday. We had the lobster club and fried seafood for lunch. The club was huge. Loads of lobster salad with perfectly cooked bacon and generous lettuce and tomato portions. The fried seafood was fresh and light. We watched sail boats come in and out of the pier while washing down our lunch with blueberry beers. This was a perfect way to spend an afternoon in coastal Maine. read more

09/16/26 The food was good, but overpriced. Our server was friendly, but not attentive or timely. We came for the lobster club. While the bread was toasted and the lobster tasted good, the bill left me with quite the sticker shock. I knew it would be pricey at "market price," but $62.50 for some lobster on bread with lackluster french fries seemed a bit much. The sandwich itself was prepared well and was accompanied by three pickles, potato salad, and hand cut old bay fries. The fries were lacking any real flavor and didn't impress me. I wanted sweet potato fries, but unfortunately, they were out. The potato salad was good, but nothing special. My husband ordered the Mate's platter which consisted of smaller portions of haddock, shrimp, clams, and scallops. The fry on everything was nice. I've never eaten scallops or clams before, but since we were in Maine, I figured I'd sample my husband's food as well. The scallops were rubbery and the clams had a funky taste to them. I've never had these two types of seafood so perhaps that is how they taste, but just not something I personally would like to eat again. The shrimp tasted like popcorn shrimp and the haddock was okay. The plate was accompanied by coleslaw and old bay fries. The slaw was alright and again the fries were a miss. We sat on the outside deck, but on the left side of the building as you walk in. The seats are very deep and quite uncomfortable, but I took two seat cushions and put them behind me to help. The view wasn't great and I thought we were missing out, but when we were leaving I looked at the other tables on the back of the building and we weren't missing that great of a view. The restaurant is on the water, but only with an okay view The biggest disappointment was feeling ripped off. The menu price for the mate's platter was $39 and when the bill came we were charged $42.50. I realized the price difference after returning from the restroom and my husband had already paid. I was also shocked at the $62.50 price tag for the lobster club. I realize it's lobster, but I don't know where that amount of lobster plus a few other much less expensive ingredients/accompaniments would come out to a market price over $60. The restaurant is definitely overcharging for the fact that the club beat Bobby Flay. On our trip to Maine, I've had better lobster that topped out just over $40 and nothing near the price tag of this restaurant. The food here is the only food we happened to eat that day and we both ended up not feeling well after. Staff is professional, kind, supportive. (and we just came after a rush of customers) You are not rushed here, there's plenty of seating inside and out. Views are breathtaking. When you order a drink, you get your moneys worth. I recommend the Maine blueberry lemonade, yum!! A carafe of water brought to the table before ordering is lovely and appreciated. I mistakenly ordered the wrong lobster roll. The salad lobster was good but not what I wanted and they made the one with butter, omg!! So yummy!! Lexy the bartender makes the best Beth Dutton Tito's dirty martini, in an "up" glass (rare these days, stemless I understand for breakage but your hand makes whatever your drinking "warm". I found myself licking the mussel shells when I ordered the creamy garlic mussels because the sauce is "finger licking good". It's on the water with the best views of the ocean. The locals hang at the bar (BAH as it's pronounced), so you get the gossip first hand. You gotta go! read more

With great views of the light house in the distance, this is a place to bring your visiting out-of-town relatives. Lots of seafood on the menu. Although, the downside is that I didn't find the food quality to be high. Quality was more average than very good. I had the dinghy wrap and found the fish to be slightly "fishy" tasting. My husband had the ridiculously priced Lobster club sandwich ($49) and he said it was very good. Onion strings were interesting- tasted good but were hard to eat gracefully as most of the strings were 6 to 10 inches long. Liked them and hated them both at the same time. Service was fast and very friendly. We found easy parking as it was a gray day in November but I could see parking being a challenge in the summer. read more

My lovely bride and I stopped in on a Monday afternoon in August for a late lunch. The restaurant has a wonderful covered deck with beautiful views of Rockland Harbor. Service is incredibly prompt and pleasant. We ordered their famous lobster club sandwich, served with french fries, seasoned with Old Bay, and onion strings. The sandwich is a triple decker served on toasted bread, with bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and fresh lobster lightly tossed with mayo. It truly is outstanding. This is the sandwich that the chef-owner prepared to beat Bobby Flay on his Throwdown show. The lobster club is generously proportioned - two adults can easily get by sharing one. Located on a marina, the view immediately adds ambiance to your brunch, lunch, or dinner. We count ourselves lucky to have found Archer's our first night in town (May 4, 2024) and our dinner was beyond fabulous! A couple Single Shucked Oysters with shots of Bloody Mary was a perfect way to kick off the evening. Appetizers of bacon-wrapped scallops and the warm lobster dip with toasts were scrumptious -- and in my opinion obligatory if you're visiting Maine. The Lazy Lobster (pictured) is two tails poached in butter with two sides. (Their sides change daily.) The "laziness" here is that you don't have to pull the lobster meat from the claws and tail shell yourself. I'm not bothered by handling a cooked lobster body, but some people might be. Anyway, I find this option a considerate alternative for those who don't want to have a carcass on their plate. This might be a thing for some people, but for me I'll take all the lobster carcasses you can serve up. The Lobster Rueben (with one side) was the perfect way to conspicuously consume fresh lobster. For dessert, we ventured into Chocolate Cream Pie, which was NOT made from Jello pudding mix with a Pillsbury pie crust. In other words, it was the real thing and we scarfed it down, even with our full tummies. We fell in love with our waitress (Alex) which led to us returning to Archers two more times during our one-week stay -- once for lunch and again for dinner. You can find Archer's on the Pier at 58 Ocean St. Rockland, ME 04841 - the restaurant resides on a bit of a jetty that extends north into Rockland Harbor along side a park (there's a walking path that extends from Harbor Park). There's parking in a lot out front - we didn't have any issues. Arriving we were seated withing about 5 minutes or so, out on the patio/deck - this was a couple weeks after the typical tourist season on a Thursday night. The view was pretty decent as the dusk sky reflected a lot of color into the harbor. This is a pretty large restaurant with a large bar in the center and a satellite bar along one side of the wraparound deck. Archer's was recommended to us by a local friend who had eaten there several times. Service was decent once someone came by the table but it did take about 10 minutes after we were seated. For appetizers we went with: * 1/2 dozen local oysters - these were really delicious, briny and fresh. I though the cocktail sauce a bit lackluster and overly sweet, but a squeeze of fresh lemon fixed that. * Main Lobster Stew - This was pretty decent if a bit too creamy for my tastes (I tasted more cream than stock) with fairly large chunks of lobster Dinner: * Fried Duo of Haddock and Native Shrimp - served with fries and cole slaw. The haddock was very fresh and lightly fried - liked it a lot. I though the shrimp were more popcorn-shrimp sized - there were a lot but it was a lot of breading. I liked both the fries and the slaw. The tarter sauce seemed a bit off, weird balance of sweet to sour. * Shrimp Scampi with Angel Hair pasta - the shrimps were large and perfectly cooked, however the dish was cold and a bit greasy. Easily the worst individual dish we've had in the week we've been in Maine and a bit surprising. It came with a side Caesar salad. As mentioned, the service was good once it started if slow, not sure why that pasta dish was so cold unless it sat it in the window overly long. Probably just an off day for the restaurant. The views from the deck are pretty spectacular. I'm rating this 3.4/5 read more

This spot was suggested by a local. It didn't disappoint. The view from the deck of the harbor was beautiful. The menu is heavy seafood. Our waitress, who was super, recommended the haddock tacos that comes with rice. We both ordered them. It was a great choice. They were lightly fried with a touch of Cajun seasoning. Though we often have vacationed in the area and walked by this restaurant, this was the first time we dined there. It is beautifully situated on the harbor and we were seated near a door leading to a deck. After perusing the menu, my wife and I each chose that night's special of swordfish with candied walnuts, goat cheese and orange balsamic glaze that was served with Parmesan risotto and butternut squash. The squash was blah, but everything else with the exception of the dinner rolls was perfectly prepared and quite enjoyable. I'm hard pressed not give this restaurant five stars but service was static/sluggish although our waitress was very nice. The host greeted us with enthusiasm from the minute we walked in the door and watching him while at lunch you could tell he took pride in his work !! The menu has some great options and reasonable in price. For the look of the diners while it had great views and a nice outdoor patio it was more of a local restaurant than tourist trap which was nice. We all enjoyed our lunches, didn't feel rushed to leave in a lunch crowd timeline and will definitely put it on our list to visit agin when in Maine. read more

I had my first full lobster at Archer's today. The view was beautiful on the water and the waiter was patient and very helpful in explaining to me how to eat one of these monsters. The Old Bay fries were tasty but salty as expected. I'd still have them again. lol. The restaurant is old with lots of local charm and if the weather allows definitely eat outside. There was even a little 70's music playing in the background! Outside there's an area that is partially protected with a Lear plastic wind screen if it's early or late in the season. We visited Archer's on their first evening back from break. Everything about our experience was wonderful. Our waitress was so kind and accommodating. When she found out I was pregnant, she made me a "mommy mocktail" to go with my dinner. The lazy lobster was delicious and portioned well. This place is so inconsistent. I've had the best sweet potato fries ever to the worst ever. Picked up a to go order and they were burnt and some looked green and rotten and mushy. They shoved them in a small box that would barely close and didn't give us any napkins. Other times I've had the best chicken masala to not so great fish tacos. Now, the oyster rockefeller was okay...a whopping $24, but you couldn't really taste or tell there was an oyster because it was loaded with bacon and spinach, the toppings were so good but might as well order that without the oysters. Mussels in white wine were fresh but didn't have much taste. And I did not enjoy the clam chowder, it was super thick loaded with potatoes and you can't really taste the clams and/or the clam broth, I did not like it. BF enjoyed his burger. I would have given a 4 star rating, but unfortunately I ordered the Lazy Lobster. I was very disappointed, the menu said it was the meat of two lobsters, so when the waitress told me it was $78 I wasn't too surprised and went for it. The small amount of lobster in the dish was shocking. The tails were the smallest I have ever seen. I'm surprised they were even big enough to be legal size. The whole tail was not much bigger than my thumb or the lemon wedge (see picture). Besides the size, the lobster was served in some red liquid which was very salty and took away from the flavor. On the plus side, my wife had fried scallops & clams and her meal was very good. Also, the coleslaw was excellent. The service, staff friendliness and atmosphere were great! Lynn Archer has to be one of the truly heroic culinary figures in the world of Maine cuisine. Working in the industry for over 20 years, her former little restaurant , the Brass Compass, was simply perfect. Seriously. The setting was wonderful, the homespun atmosphere was one of small town diner. The place was intimate and inviting, there was never enough room, and you always had to wait to be seated, and yet , service remained gracious and attentive , and more importantly, the food they created was honest , perfectly executed and delicious. They weren't using pre-chopped bags of iceberg lettuce from Sysco, dressing dispensed from a gallon plastic barrel , or sauces ladled from a bag. If you ordered a piece of fish with a Newburg sauce , the sauce was made in house by someone who actually cared about what was on your plate, and truly wanted to create their very best food for you to enjoy. Sadly , the Brass Compass was driven to extinction by the city of Rockland and progress , and Lynn''s remaining eatery, Archers appears to be yet another enterprise that has gone over to the dark side with their dinner items. My wife and I had dinner there tonight , and if I hadn't been sitting on the deck staring at Rockland Harbor, I swear , we could have been at Applebees. The food was lack luster at best , and I felt cheated when our server handed me the bill. I haven't had lunch there in a while, but I suspect the sandwiches and fries are still relatively intact, and haven't been reduced to the disappointing state of their dinners. I need to add, this was end of summer in Maine and I fully recognize that staff gets worn down to a nub, but my impression of the food was that everything that appeared on our table came from a box or a bag , and at best, was massaged back to life somewhere back in their kitchen. What's really sad, is Maine is blessed with an abundance of stunning local produce. The tomatoes this time of year, the fresh greens, kale, lettuces, and of course fabulous sweet corn , all are to die for. Where were those items on the menu? Maine arguably has the best seafood in the country, and to ignore that tremendous local resources, in favor of some pre-made Franken-fare , why? I had a restaurant for 12 years in a highly competitive market, and the one mantra I always stressed to my staff, and lived by daily, was that we couldn't be as good as everyone else , we had to be better than everyone else. That was always my goal. I wish Lynn well and hope she can find her way back again. I miss the food she once created, with love and care, simmering in every mouthful. read more

Such a disappointment! We have been to archer's before and loved it but not this time! Traveled 2 hours for my birthday lunch. Waited a long time to be seated despite the fact that there was no one ahead of us. Two servers went by and said someone would be right with us but still we waited! Finally got seated only to wait a long time for a server to recognize us. She apologized saying she had to get her afternoon chores done so she wouldn't get yelled at. What about the customer coming first?? Our drinks were served quickly and the onion straw appetizer was hot and delicious. The meal portion of our lunch was not great! My husband never got his salad, my seafood casserole was barely warm and we were served bread that was cold and hard . If this was our first impression we would never go back but we know that archer's can do better. read more

Archer's is amongst the highest recommended seafood restaurants in Rockland and I can see why. The view and ambience are virtually unmatched in the area. The service is prompt and friendly and the seafood is about as good as it gets in the area. I tried the seafood pie which is a bubbly, buttery, delicious casserole of shrimp, scallops, lobster and fish. All very fresh and the quantity was massive. A lot of the menu is market price (especially the lobster dishes). So be prepared for a bit of a sticker shock, but that is to be expected for premium seafood in this economy. read more

Our front desk at Samoset Resort listed Archer's on their preferred dining list and since we would be attending The Festival of Lights and Christmas Tree lighting it just made sense. We were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the atmosphere, service and very good good. We go plan on revisiting Archers next week during our stay here in Maine. read more

But, it must've been almost 2 lobster rolls worth of meat. Also tried The Skipper which was a haddock sandwich on a brioche bun topped with a crab cake and melted cheese. Excellent. Being a seafood restaurant , we were surprised when the pricey swordfish came out dry and overcooked. The replacement fish came out raw, undercooked, inedible. Two chefs, not busy, seafood restaurant. How could this be so hard? He settled for a burger. Weren't charged for fish, but no apology or kind word from the management or kitchen. Huge disappointment.
