We discovered this food truck while looking for someplace to eat on a Wednesday afternoon. We perused the extensive menu and settled on hot dogs enhanced by mustard, relish and onions. Food is good but I've never paid for a $15 burger that looks like this.... I had to take the onions off and cut them into manageable pieces. I enjoy the Zack Shack but the consistency of the food is either perfect or leaving yourself asking why you just spent a pretty penny on something you could have done better yourself. read more

The Zach Shack was definitely an unexpected surprise on my trip to Maine. For a trailer roadside shack, they sure know how to do several things very well. I definitely dug my fish tacos and fried zucchini fries. The fish tacos was definitely not thin piece of fish, but a nice thicker cut, and plated nicely with fresh salsa on top. The fried zucchini fries were also similarly thicker cut which I honestly didn't think would work. I would have thought that with a thicker cut, the zucchini would have required a longer cook time in the oil that would have made the exterior just a tad overdone. To my surprise, both the fish and zucchini were not overdone, and instead just perfect. A nice sprinkle of parmesan cheese added a needed salty profile to the zucchini. As a true roadside shack, there is seating outdoors on old school long wooden picnic tables. I visited after peak lunch time so there was plenty of seating which made my experience pleasant. I sure hope these guys stick around for my next trip up to Maine. read more

As part of our lobster roll pilgrimage The Zack Shack was chosen because it was open. We have found at our visit to Maine during the fall season that quite a bit of restaurants are closed for the season. I ordered a side of onion rings with my roll. They offer regular portion rolls for about 18 bucks and double portion of lobster for around 29 bucks. The regular portion was just right for me. The roll was good but I wasn't a huge fan of the onion rings. They weren't bad but not my favorite. I didn't like the texture of the breading. With that being said this is a taste/texture issue with me and I'm sure overall would be fine for most palettes. The service was friendly and quick. read more

We saw good reviews for this place and decided it would be a good lunch spot. The burgers were great! The fried were great! The onion rings were great! The fish taco was not a favorite (a $5.00 waste for us.) everything just got too soggy and it had a bit of sweetness that I didn't care for. We wouldn't have come here hadn't Susan from the Causeway restaurant recommend this place. Our stay at Maine had ended and we needed a place to eat before driving back to Portland for our flight. Thankfully this came to us as a suggestion the night before and I am glad we stopped by because their food was really good and of great value. We had the lobster roll and the crab roll with a side of onion rings! Both rolls tasted great and the onion rings were perfectly battered and crisp. Need to update the operation hours, I Just stopped there a half hour ago and they closed at 6pm. I went back the next night and got a couple of orders. Food was good. I also witnessed a customer in front of me, placed an order over the phone and then came to pick up her food but forgot her wallet and they did NOT charge her for her food. My husband and I found ourselves quite peckish while in the Thomaston area, and he originally turned into the shared driveway to go to Dunkins, but the "Angus Burgers" sign caught his eye, and he turned right into the parking lot where an entirely unprepossessing trailer ("food truck") was parked. I didn't have to try to find a website for them, only to find out that they don't really HAVE one, and I have to go to FB, where I would then be required to scroll through zillions of pictures in order to find one of their menu - even though FB OFFERS a convenient MENU button . . . . But I digress. They do do what I usually will suggest to any place I go - POST ABOUT YOUR DAILY SPECIALS!! Especially nowadays, when more people are doing takeout, I'd like to know the entirety of what's available to me when I make my decision about what I want to eat and call my order in, which I'm probably going to do ON THE WAY to the restaurant. The menu is quite diverse, but we went with what we'd been so tantalized with - the burgers. We both got bacon cheeseburgers and onion rings. The prices were just about what I would expect, but frankly, they might be underselling themselves. What we got - for our impromptu lunchtime meal - was probably one of the best meals we've ever had - take out or dine in. The burgers were excellent - not ginormous so that you can't pick it up without it falling apart, but just the right size, and cooked perfectly (I like mine medium, but my husband likes his well done, and they were both spot on). I got mine with onions, assuming that they would be raw, but they were wonderfully sautéed, which added a lot to my burger. The onion rings were damned near perfect, too - thin and crunchy and obviously homemade, and a generous portion of them, too. The is ok. I have eaten there several times. Your average burgers, fries, seafood, and occasional fried zuchinni. It is a good local fast food place. The service is marginal due to the attitude of the people who work there. Be prepared to hear somewhere in the community that they talk about and make fun of you while you are ordering or picking up. The people running this place are marvelous. I came here to try my first lobster roll and was disappointed when they told me they were out of lobster. The gentleman working immediately offered to go pickup the fresh lobster they had waiting and told me to hang tight. The lobster roll was worth the wait!!! It was seasoned well and so fresh. I also had crinkle french fries which were hot and crispy. I also had a chance to taste the crabmeat, and it was amazing. I may have gone with the crab roll had I known how tasty it was. It was not over seasoned at all either (like I read in previous reviews). Genuine people, quality food, and they kept a nice lunch crowd the whole time I was there. Perfect place for our family to eat during Covid. Plenty of parking, picnic tables spread out at good distances and they yell your name loud enough to hear from your car. I pass this place a lot on the way to the local shopping centers. Finally decided to stop today because I happens to be in the same parking lot. It's in a great location, visible from the main roadway. There is ample parking, even a few picnic tables to sit at. The menu is decent size, and an eclectic selection to choose from. To include the cheapest lobster roll I've seen in this area. I got three soft shell tacos and a soda (pop) for $6.50. The taco wasn't my favorite but still very tasty.
