When we gave the hostess our name for a table, she wrote it on the grease board, not the list. We were never called. While sitting at the bar, the bartender completely ignored us. One of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant. Took FOREVER for our waitress to first see us. 30 mins to get first drink. Took practically an hour to get a cup of chowder which was then ice cold. They sent my other appetizer to another table. My lobster BLT was good I will say that but the whole experience was like they were annoyed we were even there. Hostess and bartender were top notch. Our waitress was atrocious. As a born and bred Mainer, I can truly attest to the freshness of their seafood, particularly the lobster roll! Seafood chowder also yummy with just the right balance of cream, potatoes, and fresh seafood. Service was very accommodating, we asked for the deck, but the breeze on that particular day was a bit chilly and was immediately seated inside when we asked to be moved. We've been coming here for live music on Sunday afternoons the past few weeks this summer. Definitely call ahead to make a reservation so get a good outdoor seating spot. There are great views of Christmas Cove from the deck. I ordered the BLT which was really good. The lobster BLT was really good too. People also enjoyed the wings, salads and fish sandwich. Cocktails are yummy including their punch and Goombay Smash! The service is friendly and never takes too long to get food even when they are busy. read more

Dear prospective diner(s), No need to read ahead: Save your money and do NOT eat here! We ate at the Coveside recently and have been going there for many (30+) years, and unfortunately, things have continued to deteriorate. This place has always had "service problems" over the years, and things have not improved. New help for sure as the place is "seasonal" heah in Maine and good help is scarcer than hen's teeth this summer of course. To be kind, the waitress was "new" as was the bar-tender, and apparently the bar-tender did not have the proper ingredients for a Mai-Tai (a freakin' Mai Tai!) and the waitress had never heard of it! So I went with the tried & true "Dark & Stormy" which was fine at $10. The food however is about a D+ and EXPENSIVE...$24 for only 8 (!) deep-fried shrimp & a SMALL portion of frozen FFs (NOT hand cut from REAL potatoes as they used to be...here in Maine potato-land...hard to believe!). The coleslaw was tasteless and a tiny portion as well! The 8 heavily-breaded shrimp were NOT the Gulf of Maine shrimp we had enjoyed in the past and likely imported farmed shrimp...from yup...China most likely! I know that GOM shrimp are no longer being caught in the GOM, but ARE available from Canadian suppliers where they are caught in the Gulf of St. Lawrence! When I asked the waitress what kind of shrimp she said "North Atlantic shrimp"! If you want the real thing go to Shaw's Wharf in New Harbor nearby...much better food! All of this is too bad and we will never again go to what used to be a GREAT place but is now TERRIBLE! You "used to be good" (what happened?) but not anymore. Good luck Coveside...you'll need it! This place is great! They have a really good beer selection with a lot of local beers. I got the fish sandwich with fries. It was so good. Their fried fish is great, and the people we were with who got blackened fish said the same. We had really great service so can't complain about how long it took. If you have evening plans, make a reservation and go early. If you're on vacation, you might have a little time to spare for watching the sunset. TIP: If you just want to enjoy a drink and get a view of the water, they have a great side deck. It's self-service so you have to order at the bar, but we just wanted to sit for a bit after dinner and that was the perfect spot. read more

We had wonderful service and the food was so great we had to inquire about the chef as our recollection of the food was not nearly as memorable 8 years ago when we first visited. We were told that the chef was new and we really enjoyed the pate, roasted carrots, hot chicken and more! We also loved the beer selection and enjoyed sampling a few Maine brews, all while enjoying the beautiful Maine harbor view. We've been to Coveside most every day of our week long vacation. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Fresh seafood, and pretty fine dining wtih a casual atmosphere (hey, its Maine after all). Deck seating is great for people/boat/bird watching. Coveside is a marina as well as a restaurant, so they have a pretty impressive niche in quaint Christmas Cove. Have been a couple times and have been thoroughly impressed with the Lobster Roll, Shrimp Po'boy, and most importantly, some of the best fish taco's I've ever had. Marina is wonderful. Did not get to eat at restaurant. Problem was when we had to anchor outside harbor, a homeowner came out and harassed us about our anchor light. He said we had to turn out our anchor light off because it went right into his bedroom. Curtains? He called our anchor light " showboat lights". OMG Asshole factor 10. Avoid this harbor if you can't get a mooring. read more

This has always been my spot to go to every summer, but this year has been better especially since they now have a children's menu that is fairly affordable. My twins both said that they have the best chicken fingers anywhere! My family and I usually stop in Coveside every summer while we are vacationing in the area. Last year, we arrived around 7:30pm for dinner and they seemed to be out of everything - lobster, cobb salad, etc. This year, we made sure to arrive for dinner earlier - 6:30pm. Once we sat down, we noticed that the menu looked different. There were no entrees - only burgers and sandwiches. No lobster, no cobb salad, no steak. However, we all remembered the clam chowder being creamy and delicious, so all ordered a mug. When we received the chowder, it was not thick AT ALL. It tasted like drinking warm milk. The salads and sandwiches were ok. I'm not sure if they changed ownership, but this was not the same Coveside we remember. Unfortunately, I don't think we would come back here. read more

Came for dinner two weekends in a row because the view is so great. Asked for garlic bread with a Caesar salad and was told the chef said no. After telling the waitress how frustrating that was since the salad didn't even come with the bread stated on the menu, the manager agreed to have it made. Our server was clearly uncomfortable asking for the bread because the chef is a bully to the staff! This place isn't cheap. Our bill was over $80 for two adults and two kids. Stop with the excuses for bad service and make the garlic bread. read more

Coveside sits in Christmas Cove. Great views from all sides of the restaurant. Ordered the lobster roll and blueberry pie. The roll was overflowing with chunks of lobster. Unlike other places, Coveside doesn't use mayonnaise or other dressings. It's just lobster meat. Blueberry pie crust was perfect. The blueberries filled the crust. Pie was served warm with vanilla ice cream. Turner was great! He was attentive and has a wonderful sense of humor. read more

We went to Coveside on the recommendation of the owner of a local ice cream shop. Outdoor seating, live music, good food...sounded like a nice place for a meal for our group. We called and made reservations for 5pm. We arrive few minutes early and are promptly seated outside where our table already has cups of water waiting. We are informed by the hostess that the kitchen doesn't open til 5, which we already knew. Other parties get seated around us and their waiters/waitresses promptly get their drink order. We wait for almost 20 minutes without a single person even making eye contact with us, let alone taking our order. We flag someone down and they get a waitress over to us. Who doesn't apologize for the wait, but does take care of our drink order and food order. 1 member of our party doesn't care for her meal, so we ask for a quesadilla which comes out promptly, only problem is there was a long black hair in it. We discretely tell the waitress and her response was simply "Oh". Didn't offer to comp it or replace it, or even apologize for it. Just basically blows it off and walks away. At sometime around 6:20 she comes back and proceeds to tell us "The hostess wanted you to know that there is another party coming in at 6:30 for this table". In summary the food was just ok, the overall experience was the worst that I have ever had in Maine. We will never go back to this place and would never recommend it either. 0 stars if I could read more

The location is great and the food is really good as well. If the service here was any good, it would easily have 4 stars but this is a miserable fail. Staff are slow and disorganized, just as they are at their other location at the Newcastle Pub in Newcastle, Maine. I really hope they address this as it has been a long-standing problem at both restaurants and really detracts from the experience. Please note that some of the staff are excellent and professional, but you never know who you are going to get. Allocate plenty of time for dinner and expect that some dishes may be cold! read more

This place used to be great. It's still decent but the prices are insane. My wife and I paid $150 for a lunch (with tip) that included 6 raw oysters, 4 baked oysters, two tiny crab cakes, fish and chips and a $32 bottle of wine. This used to be the kind of place you could go and spend less than $100 and have lunch and drink for hours. I can get away with lunch at The Capital Grille with drinks and tip for the prices they are charging here now. Went there for a birthday celebration and we were largely disappointed. The service was very slow. My mother ordered a hot lobster roll (at premium prices). The meat was rubbery and had a strange taste to it. The most upsetting part to us yesterday, however, was that our request for a different table was declined (because it was no longer in the servers section). The menu that this restaurant publishes on their Website was something the server had never heard of and therefore we could not order what we had set our expectations for. This is a September 2019 update to my 2018 review. We loved the new offerings on the menu. I can't wait to return and order the dark and stormy duck wings. When my friend ordered them I wondered why anyone would order duck wings on Christmas Cove. Lobster yes. Haddock yes. Clam chowder yes, Scallops yes. All winners at Coveside. Then he offered me a wing, and I ended up eating half of his, then ordering more! My gourmet son-in-law had a pasta dish he thought was spot-on delicious, someone had seared scallops on a salad. All six at our table enjoyed their meals - drinks and wine! Service was friendly and professional on a busy evening. Sitting on the outside deck with one of the best views on the Maine coast is worth a journey. Fortunately Coveside is a few minutes from our rental house! We have been going to the Coveside for more years than I can remember. Now when I go back to the Coveside I see some changes that I like and some changes that I think are not all that great. The food that wasn't pizza was excellent while the pizza was meh. The pizza portion of the meal could have been replicated at home. That being said, this could have been a four star review for food but the service was a bit special...we received someone else's food, everyone's food came staggered (and not by a couple of minutes...it was almost an hour between my son's food and mine), and drinks took 45 minutes to get. You can't beat the setting at Coveside. Sitting outdoors on the deck, overlooking the marina, the incoming boats, watching the sunsets and the stars, well, these are things money can't buy. The staff is great, the food is dependable and predictable. We've noticed that the food is better now that it has new owners. You don't go there expecting Fore St. You go to Coveside for fun, good drinks, in the evenings good music, and very good lunches out on the deck. We only go there about once a week, but it is always a fun experience and it holds a special place in our hearts. WHY? Inexplicable. Friendly servers and great bartenders (Lynette!). Food is fresh, local, and delicious, though don't expect gourmet. More like nicer pub food! Good beer variety. Fish and chips batter is the best I've had in midcoast Maine. Service can be a bit slow, so expect to sit back and enjoy beautiful Christmas Cove. read more
