Went to lunch with my siblings today and we got the bangers appetizer, and they were really good! For our entrees we got fish and chips (cod) and shepherds pie, the shepherd pie tasted homemade. My husband and I came here after seeing others raving about the fish and chips. Oh my goodness, it was so good! We got the fried mushrooms for appetizer, he and I both got the fish. He with the sidewinder potatoes and I had onion rings with mine. Everything was amazing!! The filet was huge and perfectly cooked; the onion rings were probably the best we ever had! We love Archie's! We are often there weekly and the hardest decision for us is to get the burgers or the fish and chips! The burgers are the best in town as is the fish and chips. As the daughter of a "Brit", I love being able to eat authentic British food so close to home! Atmosphere is pub like and lively and the owners are there nightly to chat. This place. OMG this place! Ok, so we were in Melbourn for St. Patrick's day and the pub we were going to was chock full up, so we went in search of Fish and Chips. That's when we found Archie's. The reviews were good so thought we would give it s shot. It did not disappoint! All four of us ordered the Shepard fries to start and then we all had the fish and chips. For dessert three of us had the Trifle and I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding. The Shepard's fries were amazing. Big, fat and well seasoned curly fries smothered in Shepard's pie filling and cheddar cheese. It was seriously dinner sized, and fed all four us easily. The fish and chips were amazing! You could see my poor wife's eyes glisten as the memories being home in Ireland came flooding back! The fish itself ( you have a choice of haddock or cod, with had the former) was perfectly fried, light, flakey, and fresh (no fishy taste or smell). The steak fries (chips) were good and fresh, lightly seasoned and creamy potatoes goodness in the center. They say they are known for their Fish and Chips, and it is totally worthy of acclaim! But the real star, and that's not an easy place to take over the fish and chips, was dessert. The trifle was amazing- with its fresh cream, Bird's, fresh fruit, traditional UK gelatin, and sponge soaked in sherry was absolutely worth the trip alone from St. Cloud! It made my wife so incredibly happy to he able to introduce our kids to a dessert from her childhood, done very much the same way it was made for her. And o goid lird, the sticky toffee pudding! With it's real golden syrup (she swears it's actually Tate and Lyle's ) was absolutely it die for! But a word must go out to Ms. Haley our server. Sweet as pie, attentive, and on top if things. A wonderful smiling face after a long Sunday drive. Thank you! And last but not least, the gentleman behind the bar. Dude- you gotta introduce yourself! He was wonderful- warm and welcoming, filled with pleasant conversation. I'll warn you though- he's just a little but evil too. So there we were, all finished with dessert, trying figure out how I was going to exercise the food coma his kitchen put us into and he strolls on passed with two plates, fresh from the kitchen, of their English breakfast. Archie's Bar & Grill- Lake Washington- 5 Stars Maybe it was the dream I had last night where I was, "Bond. James Bond.," or maybe it was the Jaguar Vanden Plas in British Racing Green that blew by me on the road, but whatever it was, I was hunkering for some good old British food. In other words, I wanted some Fish and Chips and I wanted them now. Pulling into Archie's parking lot off of Lake Washington Road, I noticed the logo on the front door: A British Bulldog in a top hat emblazoned with a Union Jack. Wondering if the Dynamite Kid was to be found inside (and sending a silent R.I.P. to Davey Boy Smith), I eagerly entered the establishment. What I found was reminiscent of an old English Pub complete with a long wooden bar, wooden high back stools, and British Memorabilia and Flags adorning the walls. I immediately felt like I was in London, only two things assured me I wasn't: 1. The sun was shining brightly outside and 2. The glaring absence of a snooker table and the resplendent authentic pig bristle dartboard found in every English pub as it is written in the Magna Carta. I guess the owners, Paul and Amanda, were able to skirt around that stipulation by setting up shoppe in a breakaway colony. As my server, Tara introduced herself and asked if I was ready to order, I couldn't help but be a little let down by her lack of a British accent, however; she more than made up for this by her knowledge of the menu and her competence in performing her duties. She was zeroed in on her customers and on point all day. I placed an order for a Wexford Irish Cream Ale, Fish and Chips and a Scotch Egg. The ale was served at the perfect temperature, delightfully refreshing and the perfect pairing with the Fish and Chips. The Chips here are the big, thick "steak fries" and these were fried to a perfect golden brown with a crunchy exterior and a soft interior. The chef really nailed them. The fish, albeit of the frozen variety, was surprisingly delicious. Some of the best I've ever had, fresh or frozen. I am assuming this was due to the way they were flawlessly battered and fried to exquisite golden brown. The inside was moist and flakey, as optimally cooked fish is to be cooked, regardless of preparation. The cole slaw, however, was a slight let down as it had adequate crunch, but lacked any and all flavor. The proverbial cherry on top of all this fried, crunchy goodness, the Scotch Egg. If you don't know what this is, see the accompanying photo, it is not that easy to make as it is a hard-cooked egg wrapped in fresh sausage and then fried. This was, by far, the crème de la crème of my order. I can only imagine the chef approaching the preparation of this dish with the same droit du seigneur found in the Lords of feudal Europe. I say this as he totally nailed it. The egg was wrapped in the arms of some of the most delicious sausage I have ever had. It was savory, crispy, juicy and slightly sweet on the palate. Inside was egg heaven. The egg was perfectly done to a firm hardness, yet still oozed just a tiny bit of yolk (mix this with the sausage crumbs on your plate so you don't miss a drop of this delicious concoction of Scottish culinary genius). I cannot recommend this place enough. The Big Boy says, "Do not pass up this hidden gem in Melbourne for excellent UK chow, just leave your darts at home as they don't have a board. read more

I will start by saying that it's a great thing this place has what appears to be a sort of "cult" following because as someone who has only visited 2-3 times, I will NEVER go back. In their defense, the food was VERY good and probably some of the best fish & chips around but that is where the "good" ends. Upon arrival, my small party of 3 sat at the bar and was greeted by an uncomfortably "energetic" bartender who quickly took our drink order. When then sat there while we observed her walk around, joke around with other staff, joke around with other customers and do just about anything besides make our 3 drinks (it was draft beer and a glass of wine so not overly tasking). After a shockingly long wait for our beverages, we asked to order our meal which was placed without issue and then this is where things got BAD! The bartender was standing near the computer and dropped a credit card on the ground and apparently under one of the coolers. What does the bartender do you ask? She proceeds to LAY ON THE GROUND and start searching for the card with her hands with absolutely no regard for the fact that every customer can see this happening which was EXTREMELY unprofessional. The bartender eventually located the card, gathered herself off of the floor and then takes the credit card and dips it into the 3 bay sink that is SUPPOSED TO BE used for CLEANING glasses that CUSTOMERS DRINK OUT OF and then wipes it off. We then got to observe the same bartender that was just crawling all over the floor, go around pour drinks and run food all without WASHING HER HANDS! Our food finally came and as I stated in the beginning was very good. While eating, the same bartender (who again seems overly "energetic") frantically breaks a wine glass, sends shards of glass shooting all behind the bar and even over the bar next to where customers are eating! Not one time did any of the staff members ask if ANY of the guest were ok or even make any attempt to clean up the broken glass!! Then, to finish up this wonderful experience, the same bartender begins to loudly explain PERSONAL MEDICAL INFORMATION of another working employee to a few of the other guest! We were absolutely mortified that this bartender felt it was her place to discuss someone's private medical situation with other people. Maybe the other guest were friends, but we did not know the situation and found it extremely unprofessional for an employee to share personal information about another employee in front of customers. As a now former customer of Archie's, I share all of this to say that if any of us worked for the health department, this business would have been shut down ON THE SPOT! We were in town for a quick vacation and turned to Yelp for a dinner recommendation. We were not disappointed! My wife and I sat at the bar and were warmly greeted by the bartender. The menu had a good selection of food besides traditional English favorites. Lots of locals there the staff knew but we were treated with the same warmth. My wife had the Archie Burger which she found to be huge and delicious. I had the fish (Haddock) and chips and added a side of fried shrimp. Absolutely some of the best fish and chips and shrimp I have ever had. Fresh, not greasy, excellent flavor. As we left we encountered a couple on the patio who asked us how we liked our meal. It turned out to be the owners who introduced themselves. They also introduced the namesake of the establishment , Archie. Archie is a very well mannered and friendly black dog (Bichon Frise?). The patio area is dog friendly and other diners had their dogs with them. Archie's is an excellent place to get a cold beer, great meal and friendly service. I have been coming here for years. There used to be a server named Tara when I started here, she was Great. Then we got a server named Sandi... Sandi has been the reason I have gone to this eatery. Paul and Amanda, the owners have been very lucky to have her. She treated everyone as if they belonged there and were welcome. She was a caring and sweet, hard working server. I always tipped her well because she made people feel welcome and she always kept a good attitude. I have been out of town for months and stopped by to have dinner with my husband. We asked about Sandi and the male servers said they were not Sandi's keeper and they did not know when she would be back, that was Saturday AUGUST 6th 4 days ago. Today I stopped in, Wednesday Aug. 10th and asked about Sandi at 1:15 and was told by the cook and 1 of the male servers to leave. They were Sick of people Asking about Sandi and Had no Idea when Sandi was returning. They threatened to call the police if I did not leave. They acted disgusted and put out by just the name Sandi. I have no idea why these men servers, who I have always treated respectfully , have such a problem with me Asking about Sandi twice in the last week. Again, I was out of town for the last 2 months. I can only imagine why they are threatened by her following. I can not imagine any customers stopping in to see them, let alone stopping to eat or drink with them as the representation of this restaurant. I believe a community restaurant-Pub should treat their patrons with respect since they are supporting this business. That being said, regardless of the food if the service sucks then I will not frequent the business. read more

We walked in to get drinks at the bar and both the male and female server / bartender ignored us, walked right past us and did not clear old food that was sitting there. It was like they were being passive aggressive towards each other. As a result, we walked out and they lost our business.
