A very nice pub-like restaurant in Melbourne - an unexpected find! I did not even know that this restaurant existed. Another restaurant that I usually go to nearby was closing and I was hungry for a late lunch and somebody suggested this place. It is located in the same building and adjacent to Dunkin Donuts. It is the north half of the building. Parking may be limited near the entrance but the building is in the middle of a parking lot so you will be able to find a space to park your vehicle. As you enter, it is truly like a British pub. We were greeted on entering by the gentleman behind the bar. There are about 8 4-person tables around the outer edge of the restaurant and a bar that runs the length of the left side. British memorabilia is everywhere! From flags to trinkets, bulldogs to callboxes, there is plenty to see. There are several televisions playing sports or news near the ceiling. The bartender came over and got our drinks and cleaned the table. I ordered Samosas and a reuben sandwich. They came out in about 15 minutes and were very good. The price was about $40 which is reasonable in our current economy. I enjoyed the experience and plan to visit this location again. read more

Absolutely delish, cute little place! Indoor and outdoor seating, relaxed atmosphere, and attentive staff. The food was so good and fresh. We got the shepherds pie, fish and chips, bangers and mash and the shepherds pie potato skins appetizer. They had a decent selection of draft beer and wine, definitely on the limited side but it worked with the atmosphere. Owners were there too and greeting guests... seems like a great place to be a regular! read more

I'm not sure exactly what happened to, but we had always had decent meals at Archie's. This review was for a meal we had a few months ago. After a brief hiatus we decided to head back in for a Friday lunch. One waiter running the whole show. Bar, restaurant area, everything. He was also answering the phones and handling take out. We both ordered fish and chips. Their specialty. This tool 45 minutes. People who sat after were all being served before us. When we finally stopped the waiter / bartender / host to ask where our food was, he said it was given to another table by accident and that the cook was remaking it. When it finally showed up, it was mediocre. The fish was a humongous filet and impossible to eat. Couldn't pick it up. Couldn't cut it cause it just fell apart. It ended up just being a huge pile of mush in our baskets. We've decided to not visit again. Maybe we will change our minds down the road, but for now, it's out of the rotation again. read more

We lived in England for 3 years and have been wanting to try this restaurant because of the rave reviews about the fish and chips. It did not disappoint! Lovely atmosphere and delicious food here! The restroom was very clean. They just give you the freshest food at this place! I do think it's expensive but I know I can't make these things for myself, so I will pay that money. It's not a date night spot , but definitely nice to just grab a bite together! Or with your sister or your mom on an errand day! Fast service and kind personalities, which is so nice especially these days, to find! And again it's not a fancy place but it's very nice. So glad we found this gem! I searched on Yelp as I usually do for a highly rated restaurant- we really wanted good fish and chips. Fish and chips were fantastic- I had haddock and my husband had cod. Shepard's Pie was delicious and the fish and chips were done to perfection. Now dessert, OMG, they have a pudding that is to die for .I will definitely be coming back. Wonderful place! I haven't had my craving for fish and chips met since trying to get some at a Cuban place (ya, don't do that) and I had high expectations going into this place. We were welcomed by the friendly owner, Paul, a very friendly staff, and some Beatles music. The restaurant is named after his dog, Archie, whose portrait hangs on the wall next to the bar. You know this is a good place if the owner is playing Beatles music and honors his dog like this! Anyway, the food- my high expectations for authentic fish n chips were exceeded. The fish was light, flaky, and beer-battered. The chips were proper British chips- similar to US steak fries but not quite, and carrying that something special in their uniquely flat shape. Served with tarter sauce and cole slaw. Will be returning with enough appetite to sample their infamous Scotch Eggs! read more

This is one of those easy to miss places, in a corner of a strip mall like area. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday. A few tables used inside and a large group outside. This is not a large place, so I imagine it gets packs in the evenings. I'd give the food a 5 and the rest a 3/4. Server was ok, but not the friendliest, someone abrupt but everyone has a bad day. Food, however, is excellent! I went for the fish and chips, which I had heard about. It did not disappoint. Flakey and not too much fry oil, just perfect. "Chips" were standard fries, nothing special. My friend had the bangers and mash, and its a toss up to which is better! Just a fun sort of meal. They were out of a few beers, so unless you wanted a Guinness, all that was left was the usual bar beers. I would certainly go back for the food, if not the ambiance. read more

We sat down another two people than sat down a few minutes after us, they had a different server. Their food came out before ours. Archies is ran by a British gentleman who is very interactive with his customers. I have had many good conversations with him while eating fish and chips. He offers 2 types of fish. Haddock and North Atlantic Cod. Both fish are delicious and are about as close as you can get to the "real" british fish & chips you will find on this side of the pond. All offerings at Archies are excellent. The only shortcomings is that the building is small and has limited seating, although he does have outside dinning too. Highly recommended! read more

Since I love to eat fish, I've been wanting to try this place out for quite sometime, especially after hearing about the hype on how good their fish is. Well I finally did so today and I left somewhat disappointed. It wasn't all bad though. My wife actually really liked her Shepherd's pie. My biggest issues were the service, it was terribly slow and the fact the batter for the fish and the fried mushrooms seemed overly greasy to my liking. The steak fries were just ok. The side of coleslaw was the highlight for me, quite good, however it was just a small portion. If you're into British fare, this is probably worth a try and just maybe I caught them on a bad day? read more

Wife and I go for a pint. It is our first visit. Wife loves the music and, although the bartender is probably ready for anything other than the usual tracks, he keeps the tunes rolling for us. We have fish and chips. Wife's cod is perfect. My haddock is perfect. The chips are perfect---soft inside, crisp outside. I even eat the cole slaw, something that I utterly detest, therefore usually avoid. To be fair to Archie's, I give their slaw a go----crisp, not saturated in mayonnaise. Were I ever to enjoy cole slaw, then this might be the slaw for me. Wife enjoys a "Pulp Friction" craft brew while I have a pint o' Boddington's. We enjoy both. Hadn't had a Boddingtons since 2006---it really takes me "down memory lane." In terms of service, things move along at a good pace, nothing too slow and nothing too fast. If you give Archie's a go, know that it shares a building with Dunkin' Donuts. It is not one of the shops in the plaza attached to Publix. We learned this the hard way. Whenever I watch the Food Channel or any other historical, food-related show, they often have the audacity to say that the worst cuisine in the world is British food. Now to be fair, I've had my fair share of "British food" here in the United States and they live up to that moniker, but I did travel across the pond to Great Britain (that's England for all you who don't know) and ate real British food. It... is... amazing. To be fair, the "British food" I ate here in the U.S. prior to my trip to Europe were "gimmicks" in carnivals and circuses. There simply wasn't a real British bar or pub that made such delectable fare. But thankfully, Melbourne now has one and it is called Archies Bar and Grill. Trust me, it is an amazing little dive attached at the hip with Dunkin' Donuts. Their pints and their grub are delicious, the atmosphere is friendly, and they really serve British food. For starters, it must be stressed that you may have eaten British (or English) food before. Besides the stereotypical English *insert kind of food here*, fried fish with fries (known as chips), Sheppard's pie, bangers and mash, and Beef Wellington are all British that we eat here. And I don't know about you but I love all those foods. With the exception of Beef Wellington, Archies has those two along with other bar favorites. They put a unique twist on Sheppard's pie too with potato boats and a burger. Of course you have to wash it down with a pint. They have numerous beers for you to enjoy (which I do) and if you're lucky, you can strike up a conversation with Tara, one of the waitresses there who really helped us out in picking and choosing our food and beer. I really hope people give Archies Bar and Grill a try simply to try out real British food. Just be happy they stuck with the "delicious side" of British food and did not bring in jellied eels or anything like that. Then again, we Americans eat bologna and spam and... well... yeah. :P read more

This is an excellent pub. The assortments of beer and wine is very nice. I prefer a pint of the London Pride myself. Today I enjoyed the fish and chips, a UK staple. Here they do this very nice with haddock or cod, your choice. I chose the haddock. The fish was crispy and absolutely delicious. The chips too were perfectly executed and went purfect when drizzled with malt vinegar. For dessert I tried the apple crisp. Generous apple slices with sauce, crumble, topped with whipped cream. Everything you could ever dream of. The service here is very good to so next you find yourself wanting British fare, drive staight to Archies. read more

Having lived in England for 7 years I love fish and chips. This place has the best fish and chips I've had in the states. They also have a fantastic sticky toffee pudding that I told my husband I was not sharing and he'd have to get his own, which he did. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. My newest local discovery, Archie's is an English pub. So far I have tried the fish and chips (with haddock, they also offer cod), and most recently I had one of the specials, Steak and Ale... Went for dinner not expecting to much but, was pleasantly suprised. The atmosphere was nice very pub ish. The waiter was was super friendly and helpful and the Fish n Chips were really good and the portions were a good size too. We went on a Thursday night around 5 or 6 for dinner and we had to wait for a guy to bus our table. Every table was full and when we left the patio was full too. I'd say that's a pretty good testament on how good the place is. Can't wait to go back and try the Sheppard Pie. read more

I've heard so many good things about this restaurant so I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did. They have the most awesome Fried Cod basket. The fish is huge, flaky and delicious! Coke slaw is awesome! They have a huge selection of beers on tap. It is a little small inside, so it can get noisy, but when you get your food you forget about the noise.
