    Custard cups

This review is for the custard cups only!! I've never been to this bakery so I can't tell you anything about the customer service or what else they have on the menu. But what I can tell you is the custard cups here are absolutely amazing and I can't wait to get more of them! The flaky crust and the sweet custard together is one of the best pastry combos ever created! I highly recommend!

I haven't been in Kearny NJ for a while and on my way to Montclair decided to look for a bakery to get some Portuguese pastries. I Googled Portuguese bakeries and found Arcos close by. I took a detour for about 5 minutes off 280 West and did a quick pit stop for baked goods. They have a indoor and outdoor seating, a good selection of cakes, coffee, tea, sandwiches, breakfast and pastries. They have cannolis, fruit tarts, brownies, macaroons, and the list goes on. The staff was very friendly, it's clean and the prices were really in expensive. I picked up a few pasteis de nata, doradinho, pata de viada, some kind of chicken pastry. I tasted one of the custard pastries when I came home and it was great. I would definitely recommend them and will be back when I'm in the area.

Place usually has at least a short line. It's a neighborhood favorite for many people. Good coffee and pastries. I also hear they have good lunch specials on occasion. I haven't really gotten anything here that was bad. I recommend you stop in and just point at the case and try something. I doubt you'll be disappointed. ENJOY!!!

Stopped at this place for a quick lunch . Quaint little pasty / deli like restaurant with many options . I had a simple chicken salad sandwich and a soda or two. Bread was fresh and the chicken salad was good . I would have liked to have tried the pastries ( which looked very good) but that's not my thing .

Best pastry shop. I love every pastry. It is so fresh and tasty. It is the one you cannot miss. My friend and I had a beautiful morning at Arcos. The latte coffee are also good. The price is good, much cheaper than NYC.

    Pastries!

*disclaimer* this was my first time trying Portuguese pastries, so I don't have a point of reference other than my love for European baked goods and butter and sugar and bread... These pastries were soo tasty! And cheap! Everything we ordered (see pic) came out to about $8. The only thing that didn't blow me away was the egg custard, because the crust tasted like it was made with cheap fat and definitely not butter (it left a waxy coating on the roof of my mouth...not great). Taking off a star because service isn't great there. They don't speak English so ordering is pretty difficult.

Great Portuguese bakery without having to venture to Newark unless you absolutely want to. Gets very very busy, have patience.

The staff is very friendly and they truly care. The food is really tasty. I'm not surprised this is one of the busiest cafes in the area.

Small empanada shop located on the Belleville Pike that I pass every day and finally gave it a try…read more I got three empanadas, one ham and cheese, one buffalo chicken, and one guava and cheese. I ranked them in that order as well. The Ham and cheese was pretty good, the Buffalo chicken was really good, and the guava and cheese was outstanding. I would love if they sold a dipping sauce too but I didn't see any. I could have missed it if there were to be honest. The service was excellent and the price was right too......under $10 for three. The parking is a little dicey, it's street only and you have to find it on the side streets. I'm glad I stopped and I will stop again on the way home to try other combinations.

My partner and I were looking for a local breakfast spot when we came across EmpaBake. Right away,…read morewe noticed the display filled with pastries and a tempting selection of savory baked empanadas. We ordered a caramel latte and a cappuccino to start, along with a ropa vieja (shredded beef) and sweet plantain empanada that we couldn't resist. Since they're baked, the empanada crust is light and crisp, with a generous, flavorful filling. It was a little on the dry side but still good. For our main dishes, I had the two egg breakfast with bacon and home fries, while my partner went for the Tres Golpes. Both plates were delicious and served in large portions. We were also surprised with a complimentary warm sesame bun, which was a lovely touch. To finish, I ordered a cortado bold, smooth, and just the right kick. The staff is friendly and always ready with the warm greeting especially for their regulars. The decore is simple but I did enjoy the large window painting. We'll definitely be back to try more empanadas and maybe a pastry (or two). Street parking only, but finding a spot wasn't difficult.
