The women here seriously need to work on their attitudes. I came in twice and after waiting several minutes each time, they allowed other people to cut me knowing it was my turn next. On the phone i was in the middle of ordering and she is like ok and hung up...i wasnt even done with my order. The bakery deserts are decent deff better than the nasty other places in Kearny. I guess thats why i allowed them to disrespect me..i thought it was just me or something...but they are straight up rude....if ur not portugese. This was my go to spot for coffee and french toast. My wife swore by Arcos and I knew it was going to be a complete waste of time and money. Today, I bought 2 galoas, which is espresso with milk. Mind you for a large it's $2.50, upon receiving the coffee I immediately took a sip and turned right around and asked for more coffee, I told the lady strong. She gave me a little bit of coffee with milk. I then asked a different employee for more coffee, she puts water downed coffee in it. Case closed, if your a coffee lover like me please save your money and time. Your better off with gas station coffee. read more

No ambience. It's so bright in there it's like an operating room. I asked for plain hot green tea. My boyfriend ordered hot coffee and dessert. We were obviously staying there to eat and drink. The lady puts sugar and milk in my tea and puts it in a hot solo cup to go. While my boyfriend gets his coffee in a ceramic coffee mug as I should have. So I then said I'm sorry I wanted the tea plain nothing in it. She makes it again places it in cheap to go cup and i open the lid once I'm back at my table and it's milky tea. Ummmmm not sure what the problem is. Seems like she understood English. Only reason why we came her is because our usual spot closes early and this place is open til late. Never again. read more

I recently went to an event where everyone couldn't stop talking about the cake and these delicious little custard things. I couldn't agree more with everyone else and had to inquire. Arcos made the natas/custard things and the cake - half with chocolate filling and the other half with a fruit filling. I had the side with fruit. I'm not a big cake person, but I found myself going up for seconds and maybe even thirds. Yum. read more

I've been coming to Arcos Bakery since its inception in the town of Kearny. They have delicious desserts and impeccable service. The two owners are very sweet and help out as much as they can both in the kitchen and up front. I suggest getting a tosta mista (sliced bread with ham and munster cheese warmed up panini style on the grill) and the pasteis de nata (custard cups). And don't forget the galao (latte). read more

I have visited this establishment many times and really have enjoyed it but most recently the service and food has not been up to par. So we all have off day's. On December 31 I decided to go and order some chicken soup for mom and rice pudding both her favorite and to my dismay again not up to par, the soup was cold and the rice pudding was not cooked. So I called the place up and said to them the soup is cold and your rice pudding is not cooked to which the owner said to me well can't you just warm it up yourself! Isn't take out food suppose to be hot? Hence takeout. So I went to the establishment and return the soup and rice pudding and the owner again says to me don't you have a microwave and then proceeded to speak in Portuguese and say there goes a container of soup, not a customer but a container of soup. Needless to say I will not be returning to this establishment again !! They have succeeded in losing me as a customer, they don't deserve my money. read more

I've been coming here for years. Pastries are always good and fresh. The bread is great and the coffee is okay. I never ate a meal there, but their daily specials, including soups, look interesting. Something needs to be done about the service. It doesn't make much sense to have so many people behind the counter, if the same person is taking (and making) your order. Good cappuccinos and elephant ears. Very good bread. But customer service isn't the best in my opinion, they can be rude and sassy. You also have to be very specific with what you want because they give me the wrong thing 60% of the time. Never tried the cakes but I see the same ones every time I go. Doesn't seem like they're too fresh. other desserts are pretty good though. After placing my order for some take out, I decided to walk around Kearny Ave and found this bakery. They have lots of different baked goods, but I had to try the pastel de nata (egg custards) since I've always been a huge fan of dan tats (asian egg custard). I also ended up getting an eclair, since I haven't eaten one in years. The pastel de nata had a sweet crispy crust and a sweet silky egg custard. Delicious! I'm not sure how it compares to other bakeries, but I'm sure its up there with the best. The eclair was pretty good as well. read more

Arcos has been really underwhelming in their customer service. I recently went with a friend and parents to have some coffee. We ended up ordering 3 sandwiches and 4 beverages. When we placed our order at the counter, the cashier/barista gave us a perplexed look and said she couldn't remember that large order. I must say, the sandwiches were good, nothing out of the ordinary. The chicken salad sandwich tasted homemade and had flavor. My latte was again, good. Not amazing. Lastly, when we were in line to pay, the cashier looked at us, ignored us, and moved onto the next customer. We then asked for the bill which was not given to us. I had to go to the cashier once again to finally pay. Perhaps it's a one-off and they may have had an "off" night but we will not attempt to find out if they will be at least pleasant in the future. read more

Worst baked goods and food I've ever had. The baked goods tasted like they were a few days old and we ordered a cheese steak and fries and the cheese steak didn't even have cheese! It was literally a piece of old flat steak with some peppers and onion. The fries tasted like they were from a frozen bag. It was so bad I went to McDonald's to eat because I was starving from not being able to eat there!! At least the cappuccino was semi ok! Never again! read more

Came here today with a loved one for the first time, and we LOVED our breakfast! I ordered the Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich, and she ordered the Bacon and Egg Sandwich with a Hot Chocolate--talk about YUMMY with a capital Y! Not even Quick Check can top Arcos' hot chocolate. The sandwiches were warm, well-cooked, and DELICIOUS! The staff were friendly and helpful, but my only plight about the restaurant is that the waiting line interferes with the waitresses since the locale grows packed very quickly. People complain that they employees are rude, but honestly, they're not...Putting yourself in their position, if a customer is rushing them while there is a line to the door, no duh they're gonna be a little mad....If you treat them and talk to them like human beings, they are super nice!! The natas at Arcos Bakery are simply to die for. I have been to Portugal and back, and have yet to find natas as delicious as those served at Arcos.
