Super cool-- that's how they roll! It's been a while since I tried rolled ice cream (at another place) but this sounded fun, so why not? There are two entrances, and you order from the kiosk. You can order from their menu, or build your own flavor. It goes like this, they add your flavor and mixins plus cream to a super cold plate. They mash it up with what looks like paint scrapers, then spread this mixture paper thin. Then they scrape it, making thin rolls of ice cream. The workers are super meticulous-- this is hard work. They're going to have amazing biceps at the end of this summer! Be patient -- this process is not quick -- everything is made to order; you see exactly what goes into your flavor and it's mesmerizing to watch. I ordered Coffee Lovers flavor -- and I watched them pour coffee, cream and 1 graham cracker and make that into coffee ice cream. Now, they added whipped cream and caramel sauce too, so there's that. My friend ordered Key Lime, and their order was juice from a lime wedge, cream, and one graham cracker. It was also topped with a toasted marshmallow -- so cute! The resulting flavors are not very rich -- kind of like a flavored ice milk -- but there are times when that's what you want. They also offer smoothies, lattes and bubble tea (looked amazing). A friend recommended this place, and we were looking for a year after a rough day. The shop is in a newly renovated area, where there are apartment complexes right next to a shopping center. Parking was really easy on a weeknight. There are two entrances to the store, i can see that during a busier time that ordering at the one kiosk that's in the center area would be a pain. You may be better off ordering online. We ordered their mango lychee special rolled ice cream with extra lychee boba. The ice cream was very tasty, light and very full of fresh fruity flavor. Now with the cicadas gone we were able to enjoy the treat at their very pleasant outdoor seating area. We will definitely consider going back when we want a special 'cheer up' treat again! read more

One way to tell that you really love a spot is if you wait 20 minutes in line on a super busy summer night to get some rolled ice cream -- and you're glad that you did that and can't wait to go back. I only had the opportunity to try the rolled ice cream here on my visit but want to try their bubble tea, smoothies, and other options as well based on the quality of their ingredients. While watching your ice cream be made is part of the fun of dining here -- what really makes this spot stand out is the quality of the mix-ins they put into their creations. You can clearly tell that the fruit is fresh and that the items they put into each creation are high quality. It's not apparent from the pictures, but these are packed into every bowl, providing a satisfying experience. Instead of being highly blended like some other frozen desserts, many of these items are provided in sizeable chunks to get a nice bite. The flavors are also on point as well, with a dense amount of flavor as well with each bite. There are some chairs and tables inside for dine-in (and outdoors), which is generally enough as it doesn't take too long to finish a dessert so there's only a short wait if none are available. Overall, it's a little more expensive than some similar options nearby but the food here is delicious and worth the wait. Well like every other place in this plaza, it's a sinking ship. They used to have pandan icecream and now it's only vanilla and chocolate which is beyond boring. The service is extremely slow even if you order ahead, which I've done many times, I show up and they haven't even started and look surprised when you're there. The prices are honestly insane... $9 for a milk tea, when there are so many places in the area to get a similar product, and tastier. Their hours are very random, so anytime you want to go in, you realize they are closed. But the worst offense, and this is the reason (after going many times despite the slow service and insane prices) that I will never go back again is that my milk tea tasted like mold... so either the tea was old and out for too long or the boba was molding, or the milk was bad. I ordered vanilla base, health bar and strawberry mix-ins, topped with condensed milk, mochi, and a strawberry pocky. If I were to order again, I wouldn't change a thing. I've been wanting to try rolled ice cream, and I finally got the chance to try it at Arctic Spoon. Here, half of the fun is watching your ice cream being made. It's a fun show watching these ice cream artists do their thing. I had the mint and cream ice cream, and my husband had the mango madness ice cream. The flavors are very bold. The mint cream was very minty and chocolatey. The mango ice cream was overpowering. There was a ton of flavor in every bite. Be forewarned that this is not a fast process and you will wait a while. My photos didn't come out as good as I wanted them but the drinks were certainly very good in taste. Both the drinks had a proper flavor of their respective ingredients. The Red Bean Latte felt like you are drinking a red bean drink and the Mango Matcha Latte had a perfect taste of Mango and Matcha in each sip. So worth it. The ordering of items is through a kiosk as they are short staffed and from what I remember, they accept card payments only. I recommend checking out this establishment. There was only one kiosk to order off of, even though there were two or three employees just standing around waiting for orders. my son is two years old and all he really wanted was a chocolate ice cream with sprinkles and I couldn't just add sprinkles to the plain chocolate, it had to be a full custom build your own which was a significant price difference. The fruit smoothie was okay - seemed to be fresh fruit. It was overall very expensive for the value. The ice cream is made to order in front of you which was fun for my son. Our party of 3 was looking for a nice refreshing afternoon treat and Yelp pointed us to this newish, highly rated Asian flavored rolled ice cream place.  It turned out to be a good excuse for me personally to finally visit the sparkling and newish Wheeling Town Center mall which I had been meaning to do for a while anyway.  I liked what I saw and plan to be back to check out a couple of eateries here one day.  Back at Artic Spoon, we actually had to kill about 15 minutes (and it was easy to do here) for them to open at 5pm as their hours are now reduced to M-F 5-9pm and Sa-Su 4-9pm for carryout service only due to an unfortunate back-to-school server shortage. Anyway we all 3 tried their regular sized ($7.49) Artic Specials rolled ice creams.  Wife got mango red bean, sister got mango lychee with bananas and strawberry topping, and I got taro taro which also had a mini mochi topping.  They were all delectable treats, not overly sweet, and I really liked the taro I picked.  Making the rolls is labor intensive, so if it gets busy (and it fortunately wasn't during our visit), you have to allow them time to give you the fresh quality you're paying for as a heads-up.  One of our attendants was Brian who is the husband of owner Lyanne.  He was wearing a Northwestern cap and that sparked a friendly chat while we enjoyed our treats there.  It turns out he is Chinese, an engineer by training, and has 3 (!) Northwestern kids, wow and woot woot.  It was like talking to my doppelganger, except I wasn't about to start making ice cream rolls!  Anyway, great tasting products here and best of luck to Lyanne, Brian, and Artic Spoon.  Thank you and we'll be back some time! read more

Great concept, interesting flavors. The product tasted like ice milk. My bf like it, but he'll have to start yelping . If you want to build your triceps this is the place to work. They pour a liquid on a circular metal sheet and it freezes then add your selection and then roll it up and serve you. I think this place will be successful . It was packed . When you arrive there are two different entrances you can come in from, and when you enter... there's a tablet to order from. You don't really interact much with the staff other than when they hand you drinks. They have a vast menu, and so many different options. After ordering from the tablet it does take a bit to get your items, they usually only have 1-2 workers at a time so it takes some time. But the flavors of the bubble tea are incredible. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Arctic Spoon in Wheeling, IL, and I must say it was delicious but not as welcoming asni thought. The menu at Arctic Spoon offers a wide range of options to suit every palate. They offer boba and rolled ice cream with tons of options for toppings ( real shaved coconut was delicious). This is a real winner for an ice cream enthusiast. The ambiance of Arctic Spoon added to the overall dining experience. Open. Airy, but could be a bit cleaner. We went during evening hours and the line was long and it was just continuous traffic in and out. The staff seemed overwhelmed and therefore did not greet upon entering, ordering was do it yourself on a screen and therefore you had little to zero interaction with staff. I think that staff and service is big in the food industry and therefore this does lower my score for Artic Spoon. The structure with the bordering process is key. Kudos to decent price point!! I was a big fan of this place! I came in with a group of 5 adults and 2 toddlers. The wait for the rolled ice cream did take pretty long, but luckily watching this process through the glass kept the 2 kids entertained. I opted for the Brown Sugar Milk Tea, which came out quick and tasted great. Here, you have to order through a tablet. This was fine for me, but there is just a small chance my mother and grandmother would have been able to figure it out alone. Not super user friendly. I ordered the Strawberry Matcha latte iced. It was pretty good, but I don't recommend adding boba to it like I did. It was just too much and can overpower the strawberry thats in the drink. Pretty decent place. I wouldn't say it's a go-to for me but I wouldn't mind visiting again. For anyone who's curious they also have Buko Pandan rolled ice cream! I am not a fan of ordering via tablet with no interaction, and since it was our first time, we were a bit slow at it, fortunately the people behind us also were new to the experience. Rolled ice cream in the burbs? I was so excited about having this prospect close to home and unfortunately, the excitement didn't match the experience. It was a cooler evening and kinda late (7pm). I lost 30 mins of my life waiting, waiting, and waiting some more. There were 2 makers and 2 ladies "gathering" ingredients. A long line of people waiting should have been the sign to leave and go elsewhere, but we figured the line was because it's popular and wouldn't take 30 mins. Now on to the rolled ice cream. I got the mango with lychee. 3 tiny pieces of mango and a 1/4 piece of lychee. Needless to say, the flavor was lacking and for the price, I was expecting more than a few pieces of ingredients. My son ordered the Oreo rolled ice cream. A little bit of Hershey syrup and 1/4 of an Oreo were the ingredients of his dessert. Overall, the experience was very underwhelming. I was greeted pleasantly and instructed to order on their kiosk. The kiosk was very user friendly and followed the menu on the wall. After I paid it gave me the option to join their rewards program which is ultimately linked to your credit/debit card. I ordered a basic brown sugar milk tea with boba and my friend ordered the mango lemonade with boba. The Boba was perfect consistency, chewy with being soggy. The brown sugar milk tea was excellent and exactly what I would expect. The Mango Lemonade was refreshing and pleasant. I'm glad the area finally has a rolled ice cream joint! This place is fairly new and recently opened. I've been here about 3 times already and have tried several of their pre-made rolled ice cream options. I have yet to try their build-your-own or their drinks. Overall, each ice cream is about $7 with tax and it is pretty dense. I generally cannot finish one by myself. I've tried the Strawberry Dream, Mango Lychee and Matcha Strawberry. I gotta say Mango Lychee was my favorite flavor, but mangoes are my favorite fruit. My husband loves the Strawberry Dream. I love how all the flavors come together and are combined very well. From all the rolled ice cream places I've tried, I think this place definitely knows the best combinations. I also like that you can watch the entire process from start to finish. They start off by adding cream to a very cold plate, mash up all the ingredients and roll the ice cream all in front of you. It is a very laborious process and I'm sure the workers get a workout from it. I can see this place getting super busy if they have rushed orders. My daughters and I decided to visit the Arctic Spoon at Wheeling tonight for a quick dessert, but unfortunately we left very dissapointed. The manager or owner (not sure) was extremely rude. We entered the shop at 7:40 p.m., and while I was fully aware that closing time was 8:00 p.m., the manager made it clear almost immediately that we couldn't sit inside, which I had no issue with. I understood they were closing soon and was prepared to take our order to go. However, as we started to make our selections at the kiosk, the manager gave us a disapproving look and asked us to hurry up with our order, despite the fact that we were almost done. What was especially disheartening was when my 10 year old daughter said "thank you" after receiving her ice cream, and the manager didn't acknowledge or respond at all. This woman lacked basic courtesy and has zero customer service. Her attitude, especially her dissatisfied looks, made the experience unpleasant, and we couldn't help but feel unwelcome, even though we were respectful and mindful of their closing time. It's a shame because we love visiting the Wheeling town center but we will not be visiting the Arctic Spoon ever again. I hope management takes the time to address this issue so future customers have a better experience than what we experienced tonight. read more

The ice cream is fantastic, the only downside is the service is kind of mid. They sometimes take forever because they're always understaffed but the food does not disappoint! They always are asking to tip on their computer though which is super annoying considering they just stare you down while you are on the machine. All the menu items are diverse and I prefer the marshmallow, strawberry banana, and strawberry chocolate ice cream!! Also all their teamonades are super good!!! I prefer raspberry, peach, and lychee. They also sometimes add the actual fruit and a lemon piece into the drinks. The ambiance is kind of meh, it's a very bright atmosphere but with empty and big spacing around the seats.
