Even though they are both cafes, they are very different. Gianni's is more of an Italian bistro. I believe they have some lunch items like paninis and salads, but I don't right recall as I was there on a Sunday morning. What I found interesting with this coffee shop versus others is that they open at 10am and not the normal 8am or 9am on a Sunday morning. When I arrived (about 15 minutes prior to them opening the shop), I found plenty of parking on the street. Behind the building there are more parking lots, so there is plenty of parking for the restuarants, bars, and shops in the immediate area. Upon entering the shop, there are little clusters of seating areas all over the cafe. The clusters have cushioned chairs, couches and comfy seating - not a hard seat in the place - which is perfect for meeting up with friends, grabbing an expertly made coffee drink and a delicious treat, sandwich, or salad. I ordered my go to: an iced oat milk mocha latte with an extra pump of mocha and some kind of pastry. On this occasion, I ordered a Nutella and banana crepe. When it arrived, the crepe was the size of the plate. It was sweet, but not too much, and had a nice blend of Nutella and banana, but it wasn't drowning in Nutella, which is often the folly and failure of other places that use this hazelnut spread. We had a lovely time and they don't shoo you out as more people arrive. The staff is friendly, the music is not too loud, and the ambience is conversational. It's a great location to meet up with friends and colleagues in Palatine. A place I will surely revisit.
