I am writing to formally complain about the unacceptable experience my family and I had at your restaurant during our recent visit. Our total bill was $171, and unfortunately the quality of the food and the actions of management did not reflect that price.We dined inside, and while the food was just okay, my steak was tough but still edible. The real issue came with the three meals we ordered to go. All three were severely undercooked to the point that they were unsafe and completely inedible.I called the restaurant immediately. My husband and I stopped by because we always saw that it stayed busy. However after eating there I'm very disappointed. First, we ordered the spinach dip and it lacked flavor. Please retest this recipe and try again. I've see other reviews referring to the spinach dip so I'm not alone. Second, I ordered the Smothered Chicken. Again, I'm not sure why but the flavor was off. It was a 5/10. My husband had a steak (unseasoned) and sweet potato casserole that tasted like it came out of a can. I know I'm speaking a lot on the taste but we have friends who have dined here and agree it's lacking flavor overall. Ambiance was fine and the wait staff was polite. My husband and I went out to eat here because we have had their catering and the pork chop was great however we order the filet and sweet potato with the spinach dip. The steak I asked for medium and it was more than rare, no flavor and the bacon on the outside wasn't cooked. That truly was the worst steak I've ever had and my husband and I eat a lot of steak. As soon as we walked in last night, we were greeted by the host with a smiling face. We were sat immediately and welcomed by Briley. She was the best server! So friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is great! We started with the cheese fries and this is the only reason that I gave it 4 stars. They were COLD, even the cheese was cold. I had the 6 oz Colorado ribeye, it was the perfect size for me. Cooked great! The broccoli was fresh, tasty and hot! The salad bar is fantastic as small as it is, it has plenty to choose from. He had the 12oz CARIBBEAN RIB-EYE. It was amazingly tender and really good! He also had a baked potato that was steaming hot and so tasty with all the toppings. We were pleasantly surprised when we found this steakhouse while staying the night in Decatur AL while traveling. The place was busy and staff were friendly. The salad bar is small but has a nice variety of options. I ordered the steak kabob with onions and peppers. Quite possibly the most flavorful steak I've had an a lonnnng time. Fair warning on the onions: they will bite you back! My husband had the sweet potato and a salad. Both were very good. The decor is a hunter's dream - deer and duck mounted everywhere. On the way back from Nashville, my dad picked out this steakhouse right off the interstate. It was a pleasant surprise. It feels like a steakhouse without the peanuts on the floor, has a separate bar area, and a projector and screen perfect for catching a football game. I chose the Wyoming rib-eye with mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole. I like my rib-eye medium and it came out medium well. The steak was marinated and seasoned with black pepper, garlic, and was a very good steak. The mac and cheese was gooey and very cheesy, just the way I like it. The sweet potato casserole was just like you would find at Thanksgiving. It was made with brown sugar and pecans. I considered french fries as a side and I asked the waitress if they were fresh cut. She didn't hesitate to tell me they were frozen...I like that honesty! A roll came with my steak. The sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! It has to be a special circumstance for me to order dessert from a restaurant. JW caught me with homemade cheesecake. That night they had regular and chocolate chip. I chose the chocolate chip and it was good cheesecake. Not the best I've ever had but still satisfying. I thought the crust was too hard. JW Steakhouse is worth a visit if you find yourself on I-65 near Decatur or on Alabama Highway 67. read more

Stopped here on a Tuesday evening on the road to New Orleans and had a very favorable experience. Sat in the very welcoming bar area and was served by Jennifer (Jessica?) who did an excellent job. Above average salad bar and an excellent selection of steaks and gourmet burgers were on the menu. I had bacon and Swiss burger and wife had the standard burger with traditional fixings. Both were excellent. Good iced tea (important in Alabama!) and our Mason jars were kept full. A good banana pudding finished things off. Extremely comfortable and relaxed; a well groomed, traditional southern atmosphere. Obviously, a go to place for the locals. We sat adjacent to a door that the wait staff used to access the outside seating area and the swinging door shook the nearby booths when used and slammed. No big deal, but perhaps some shocks for the door should be considered. Staff asked if we were passing thru and staying at a local hotel. JW Steakhouse catered a lunch I had today at the Cook Museum and I have to say, it was the absolute best food I think I've ever had. EVER!!! Period. The meatloaf made moms look pale in comparison, the chicken tasted like a Sunday at Grandmas and my favorite, the greatest of all time is the squash casserole. If it would have been socially acceptable to lick the tray I would have. Thank you JW Steakhouse for the most amazing meal I've had in perhaps years. Had a great visit to JW's tonight. The best part of our visit was our server Madison. She was busting her butt. The food was pretty good. All of us enjoyed it. I got shrimp skewers that came on a bed of rice with a veggie skewer. It also came with two sides and a roll. I also got a trip to the salad bar which I wish I just added as a side for $2 because that big plate with a salad was a little much. I liked the sweet potato casserole though it was just mashed sweet potatoes with nuts and brown sugar on top. I love sweet potatoes. The mac-n-cheese was also tasty. Both kids had nice looking kid burgers. Plenty big enough for them. Adding cheese and bacon was only 50 cents. My wife and mom got grilled chicken, plain with white sauce and teriyaki respectively. The chickens looked pretty good. I'd get them. The menu seemed to be a buck or two higher than other steak places. I am not sure if they have some high dollar beef or not..didn't ask. The salad bar was average. Had typical salad stuff with a couple fruit options and a macaroni salad. I got the bleu cheese and it was just ok. Not very bleu-cheesy but more mayonnaise-y. I've had worse bars but I've had better. All in all a great visit. We left stuffed and happy. We'll be back. We hope we get Madison again. Service, food, salad bar..in that order. read more

This used to be a favorite place to eat and we always enjoy the salad bar. The last visit, the baked potato was a leftover from maybe the day before. Some of the food was cold and for the price it is not acceptable to have such an experience. We will not be back, which is disappointing for us. We had reservations for 16 people days ahead of the date. No we did not pay extra for the party room. We were seated at 4 tables/booths which we understood. Server took drink order immediately--15 minutes later drinks arrived and we placed our dinner orders. Some came promptly but some I had to go look for the waitress. Some meals were hot but some were cold. Some were delicious but some were not. I do not recommend for large parties. We will go again when there is just the 2 of us. read more

It wasn't very crowded but I waited over 25 minutes for my order. Just ordered the Wyoming ribeye medium rare with a baked potato and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese tasted like "grandmas" would but the steak had absolutely zero flavor to it. It didn't even taste like steak. Had to add a bunch of salt and pepper just to have some flavor. Not horrible but I'm not sure I'll be making the drive back out here again anytime soon. read more

If you want an event catered, please stay away from this restaurant. We chose to book them for catering because of how well they catered the DMH foundation gala a few years ago. Two days before the event we booked, they called and canceled the booking, and stated "we overbooked and won't be able to cater." Two days! What reputable restaurant does that? If they knew they were overbooked, they should have been professional and not booked us, or let us know a week in advance so we could make other arrangements. It took us a while for us to get our money back, too. We had to make several calls to get a refund. From what I've heard, this a common issue with them. It's sad because I would rather support local businesses than go to another city--but this is definitely one local business I will not support. read more

We were three Yanquis driving from Florida back to Chicago on our annual snowbird trip down to beautiful Sarasota. Stopped by JW Steakhouse on a whim. Was pleasantly surprised. The waitstaff who greeted and served us was funny ... like we've known her since forever. We ordered fried green tomatoes for our appetizer ... Wonderful, crispy on the outside, tart inside. The breading was some sort of Japanese bread crumbs. I and a friend had the classic burger with fries. Excellent, very hearty and cooked to my specification - medium well. My other friend had the grilled chicken breast with coleslaw and baked sweet potato on the side. My friend couldn't get over how delicious the slaw was - in vinaigrette dressing, no mayonnaise. She also liked the sweet potato - very sweet and creamy. JW, the owner talked to us and said they used to get their sweet potatoes locally, but this batch was from Mississippi. For dessert, we shared the homemade peach cobbler. Oh boy, made from scratch, sweet, warm from the oven and topped with.vanilla ice cream. The best. If you are traveling through I-65, stop by Pricevillle, AL .. The restaurant Is near the highway, it has a "big chain" feel to it, but really, it's local and very cozy. Stopped by for dinner and had an awesome 1/2 smoked chicken and sides, which came with the famous White Sauce that is found only in this part of Alabama! Tangy, creamy, and sweet! This place is just off I-65, and although it seems a bit like a chain roadhouse, it is locally run. Service was prompt and friendly. Worth stopping if you are in the area. read more

I won't be back here. Very disappointing visit. This is no Long Horn! Ordered the filet, rare with salad bar & broccoli. The filet was a weird shape. Thin ends & fat middle so it was cooked well done on the ends and warm center rare in the middle. My broccoli was a bowl of way WAY over cooked mush covered with pepper which I did not put on. The salad bar offered iceberg lettuce, cheese, cherry tomatoes ( which looked old) cucumbers and raisins. That's it! Sorry salad bar. My friend sirloin which she ordered medium rare was well done, and my other friend ordered chicken which looked really unappetizing. It looked boiled. No grill marks, no browned top, no color at all. My husbands fish and chips was tasteless. The waitress was defensive when we complained so we will never be back. Ever! read more
